Has anyone done any hypnobirthing courses yet? Just thinking about when the ideal time to start is and whether it's too early?

Mushroo · 11/09/2023 18:01

I’ve not but a doula / hypnobirth person I follow on instagram (popthatmumma) did a free intro / masterclass thing yesterday. I’m yet to watch but here’s the link in case it’s decent. Her instagram is good but I’ve not signed up to anything yet.

I might start around October time, but mainly because I’m busy atm and on holiday soon. I think you can start as early as you want!

Also planning to take a look at the positive birth company.

I was reading up on hypnobirthing and it said ideally to start around 20 weeks to be able to practice the techniques. I keep meaning to book something but haven’t as yet.

Kalodin · 11/09/2023 19:19

Earlier the better @Firsttimerugbymum As its about habitat building and practicing meditation as well as educating yourself and your partner about techniques and movement etc.

suz2285 · 11/09/2023 19:34

@Firsttimerugbymum I've signed up to one but only watched the first video so far... I need to remind myself to do it regularly! Same as the daily stretching I keep meaning to do! And the breastfeeding course 😂😂

Mummyme87 · 11/09/2023 20:54

I downloaded the positive birth company digital course, started before summer and stopped as no time. Now kids are back must get back on it

Onedayatatime24 · 11/09/2023 21:11

Oh the topic of hypnobirthing... has anyone made a birth plan yet?

I mentioned to a friend the other day that I don't want to have a plan and just go with whatever happens on the day and she said I was nuts. But I am a control freak and I think if I made a plan and it didn't go to the plan I have in my head, that would make me more anxious than having no plan. I know that makes me sound insane but I don't do well when plans change! 😂

Anyone who's been through it before - is it worth making a birth plan or nah? I know I want to be more clued up on pain meds and if I'd want to use them but other than that, was just going to go by what the pros suggest on the day. 😬

buckingmad · 11/09/2023 21:23

@Onedayatatime24 i didn’t have a birth plan with my first and won’t with my second. I was a go with the flow type person.

My only thing I want to know this time is if baby is back to back, if she is then they can cut her out I’m not going through back labour again 😂

Then I just have things I’d like, immediate skin to skin and for at least an hour, vit k injection etc. I’m easy otherwise in terms of pain relief, student midwives etc. I’m always happy to be led by the experts!

Redpanda21 · 11/09/2023 21:29

@Onedayatatime24 i have done both.

My first two I had birth plans and didn’t get what I wanted.

My last baby I only had a few requests:
No pethidine ✅
Dad to announce sex of baby when born ❌
No epidural unless C-section. ✅
Help with first breastfeed ❌
Delayed cord clamping ✅

Laboured too quickly for pethidine and epidural so N/A on those ones. Midwife announced when baby was born what sex baby was. I was infuriated. And then left so had to work out breastfeeding myself in the golden hour.

I will have the same again in my “plan” but will play by ear but I won’t waste my time writing a detailed birth plan

Redpanda21 · 11/09/2023 21:31

@buckingmad Never had a problem with back to back labours other than immense pressure. #1 and #3 were back to back. I had episiotomy with #1 and tore with #3 but all labours were about 3 hours start to finish.

Onedayatatime24 · 11/09/2023 21:34

@buckingmad @Redpanda21 that's good to know, thanks for sharing! I think that's why I'd rather go with the floow, as I would be mad if anything didn't go as I'd asked (even though I know things have to change sometimes!!).

I also don't know anyone who had a plan that went how they expected so I'm kinda like... what's the point in making one 🤷‍♀️ I'll do some research and maybe put together a few requests like you did! I think I expected they would automatically do skin to skin and help with breastfeeding 😳

buckingmad · 11/09/2023 21:56

@Redpanda21 lucky you! Mine was horrific, maybe because her head had gone off to the side too so with every contraction she was also going out into my hip. Everyone I’ve spoken to who has had normal and back to back has said back to back was far far worse.

Just been giving my mastitis boob a little massage whilst scrolling my phone and then suddenly realised my good boob had leaked loads! I can’t believe how much colostrum I’ve got already 👀 I’ll have to start wearing breast pads at this rate.

Hummusanddipdip · 11/09/2023 22:02

@Onedayatatime24 I'm not bothering this time. Had one with ds, spent ages making it easy to read. Didn't even get looked at, mainly because we were expecting to be sent home after being checked, so we left everything in the car 🤣

I arrived at the hospital, was taken to triage then rushed into delivery fully dilated, he arrived 10 minutes after we got to hospital, my birth notes state labour as being 2 minutes (they popped the waters because he was tearing me on 3 places and counted that as the start) I've been told I'll be a great candidate for a home birth, but I'd rather not... the only thing I've asked for is that they allow me to naturally push out the placenta rather than injecting me, it was on my plan last time but because it was all so fast, it wasn't too hand, they said they were doing it and I was in too much of a daze to object.

RG9895 · 11/09/2023 22:10

So random and sorry I've not managed to keep up with this but finally had sex for only the second time since I've been pregnant and don't get me wrong it was great but there was a point I was leaning on my belly and now I'm freaking out thinking I've squished her! Can anyone else tell me theyve done the same and their baby is absolutely fine?! 🥲

LittleAlien24 · 11/09/2023 22:19

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 not using any filters. When we start with the biggest dust jobs will try to do it room by room so hopefully it helps.
@Dannic2018 i feel like im really blessed with my 2 teenagers. Have heard stories how teenagers don't react well for having a baby in the house but my 2 are opposite, they can't wait. My older one just told me that they gonna teach him how to respect girls and treat them right and if he doesn't she's gonna kick his arse 😂😁
@buckingmad hope you feel better soon

I had my glucose test today. I remembered it being bad but not that bad. So on 18th i have my OB appointment and i hope results are good. Told my OH if they tell me to do this test again I'll refuse. I have really bad gag reflex, so no thank you.
Went for a quick walk to shopping centre after that but couldn't go more than 2 shops. My discs are already at me and pain was all on my right side at the back and down my leg 😞 i knew im gonna struggle with my back but hoped it will maybe kick in a bit later.

Mummyme87 · 11/09/2023 22:33

I love a ‘birth preferences’, you can’t plan birth but writing down what you would prefer to happen/like to avoid etc is really helpful to the staff

WitcheryDivine · 11/09/2023 23:12

Has anyone any experience of a wellbeing appointment with the registrar? I have one tomorrow and I’m not sure what to expect - I’m happy to be open with her but I’m not sure what I should be asking for or how she can help with anxiety etc.

Kalodin · 12/09/2023 06:33

No idea what one is @WitcheryDivine But I hope it helps and does help with your anxiety

You and baby will be fine @RG9895

Like what @Mummyme87 said @Onedayatatime24 It's not about a plan as such but a preferences. I regret going with the flow with my 3, I felt like birth was happening to me, I didn't really know what I would prefer or how to help myself and baby. This time I've made a preferences for the 3 outcomes I imagine to happen and have given thought to various options. I really recommend listening to this podcast -https://open.spotify.com/show/4kN7c5WHYinH8pkYR7OSuU?si=XRzJLtTDS6KSRLQF04Ut8g

Also found this one really great to listen to for anyone wanting to hypnobirth https://open.spotify.com/episode/0ZIYU8LRPCElGbJOILbHpp?si=CUfPyNwBQU6tszJTFaBaMg

I did a hypnobirthing course, a NHS one, and it really poorly ill equipped me. I know I should have done research myself but the course instructor was very much like "don't look up forceps because you won't need them, if you look these things up then you're allowing space in your mind to let them happen".

Hypnobirthing can be amazing as long as it isn't like the course described in that podcast.

I wish I done a birth preferences plan with my vaginal birth so I know how to get into different positions, stay active and what could help me (like birth environment).

And I wish I knew how to make my csections better too, to feel more in control of them. So things like asking for the screen to be lowered so I could see their births.

Anyway, yeah it's worth making a preferences plan so you can think about what you'd like in different scenarios and for post birth too (e.g. Vit K for baby, active management of placenta, skin to skin).

Kalodin · 12/09/2023 06:42

Covid... son has covid, he is pretty rough with it (he was fine last time). Only been day 1 with testing positive. Do I need to worry? I was completely fine last time, only lost my voice.

Mummyme87 · 12/09/2023 07:22

@Kalodin oh no, hope he gets over it quickly. Not much you can do when you live with him, chances are you’ll be fine, lots of pregnant women have had and get Covid

my SPD is really quirking in now. Struggling with walking which will make work just that bit easier… not!

Salamander91 · 12/09/2023 08:35

@Kalodin my son had it a couple of weeks ago. He was only really ill for one day. Thankfully it didn't pass on to the rest of us but plenty of women get covid during pregnancy and they're fine. I hope he feels better soon

I had my first b12 injection yesterday. Fingers crossed for some energy soon 😴

suz2285 · 12/09/2023 08:35

@buckingmad @Redpanda21 my plan is to go with the flow as well but i think i might write some things down so husband is a little involved with the plan as i think he'll be a bit confused once everything starts!

@LittleAlien24 you must give me tips on how to raise boys, your son sounds lovely! And all i seem to see is kids from school throwing litter all over the ground, dressing like clones and vaping, not to mention all the idiotic internet things they're exposed to now! Re the glucose test i asked my midwife pal about mine as i was expecting to hear by now but she said they usually schedule it about 28 weeks so i've got a while to wait, i don't want to do it either! I have a very strong stomach and no gag reflex but I've heard so many yucky stories about it!

@RG9895 baby will be fine... i know what you mean though, i'm still paranoid every time we do it and we're still 3-4 times a week 😆it can't be that sexy for him cos i'm constantly saying my hips are sore, dont touch my boobs etc etc

@Kalodin hpoe your son is ok, you'll be fine. I was asking around re covid vaccines here and it seems like they've really narrowed down who gets them now as it's just not as bad anymore, most people it'll just be like a cold. So hopefully it won't last long if you do get it and your son will feel better soon

LittleAlien24 · 12/09/2023 08:45

@suz2285 sorry for misunderstanding. I've 2 girls 16 and 18 and expecting a boy 😁 so if anyone needs tips about raising a boy it's me 😂
I've strong stomach but could not handle the glucose
@Kalodin hope your son is better soon and you won't catch anything

I just realised the other days that my upcoming ferry trip ain't 23h but 27h 😩 i know it's only 4h extra but those 4h sound soo long lol

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/09/2023 08:51

Re the glucose test, I found having a straw this time really helped. I took one with me, and it stopped the syrupy stuff coating my mouth as much. It still wasn't pleasant, but I kept it down.

On the hypnobirthing, I was a massive sceptic. I read a book a friend gave me while on the induction ward as I was bored, and downloaded some non hypnobirthing meditations and listened to them during labour with earphones - I think it really helped. Would those that've done it before think it's more beneficial if you really practice? The effort puts me off, but o think I'll listen to the meditations again
