My first was a Jan girl in 2017, a very cold winter and it was colder inside our Camden flat than it was outside! No double glazing in an old Victorian basement! I wrapped her up in so many layers and held her against me most of the time we were at home. When outside, she had long sleeve bodysuit, sleepsuit, coat and blanket/sleeping bag when she was heavy enough. She didn't fit in sleeping bags for ages though as she was only 6lb 4oz.

Dannic2018 · 08/09/2023 15:53

@Mummyme87 congrats on your boy 💙 I have a low lying one and the sonographer said it’s covering my cervix but I don’t have to go back till 32 weeks 😱 is that normal ? I had it with my daughter 18 years ago but it moved so fingers crossed it does this time.

my coldest month baby is October and I’ve previously had above average babies so had the tommee tippee gro bags. I also had a tuppence and crumble star wrap and a Morrck blanket for pushchair and I have bought a maternity coat this time from next with the panel for when she’s in the carrier. Is that ok?

Mummyme87 · 08/09/2023 16:50

@Dannic2018 to be honest I’m not sure why they are scanning as early as 28weeks, seems a bit odd, 32weeks is fine but even if it hasn’t moved they will rescan 36wks

1992H · 08/09/2023 16:56

Both my sons were January babies too and we had lots of layers and they seem to survive it fine!

I did manage to get hold of a voksi down pushchair sleeping bag thing and one for the car seat second hand which were amazing. They slept in them an absolute dream and I could just unzip when I took them inside rather than wrestling coats. my almost 4 year old still fits in the pushchair one with the length extender on-we used it at Disneyland Paris last December when he was almost 3 with loads of space. Not the best photos but you can see how lovely and cosy they are!
I want one for the car that fits me!

@Mummyme87 yep I'm on 150mg a day for pre eclampsia as it's first baby and I'll be 41 when I give birth! So I buy it OTC. No idea why my GP won't prescribe it. Although I prefer the non dispersible one but it's no l so much more expensive so I just suck it up! 5.60 as opposed to 79p for the same amount!!

Hummusanddipdip · 08/09/2023 17:38

Genuinely I was only asking for advice about the asprin and missing doses. I am aware that it costs the nhs to prescribe and I've been paying for the prescription. I couldn't find 75mg on the shelf, otherwise I would be buying it that way instead.

I know none of what was said was personal and this is an open forum for open discussion, but because of how it stemmed I feel like I have to explain myself. Sorry.

Congrats on your boy @Mummyme87

I went off tea in the first tri too @suz2285 and it still tastes wrong, but it took me 2 years to get over my pregnancy aversion with ds... strange going from 6-8 cups a day to nothing.

Ds was born during the heatwave in 2019, I spent the first 3 weeks of his live holed up on the livingroom, him in a nappy and me in a nursing bra and knickers, it was horrible!!! Hopefully it's easier to keep a baby warm than cool 😅

Kalodin · 08/09/2023 17:50

Congratulations @Mummyme87 💙 hope the placenta does move for you

Thanks for the advice on the winter babies! Also nervous about it being that time of year for illnesses too!

Almost half way now, shall be 20 weeks on Monday and it's all really getting real. I keep crying and feeling so emotional!!

Salamander91 · 08/09/2023 18:44

Congratulations on your boy @Mummyme87 I hope the placenta moves 🤞

@Hummusanddipdip sorry I was just trying to say where you could get it if you run out again before your prescription is available. I'm pretty sure the home bargains one is 75mg 😊

I just had to Google prescription charges because I haven't lived in England for years. I can't believe the price it is now 😱

Redpanda21 · 08/09/2023 18:50

@Hummusanddipdip i don’t think anyone meant any offence. I certainly didn’t. I actually think a lot of people don’t know they can buy off their own backs x

buckingmad · 08/09/2023 20:02

So still plagued with boob problems. Sitting in a hot bath massaging what I was convinced were blocked ducts and what do you know some colostrum comes out. So it obvs was blocked ducts. But now I’m worried I’m going to put myself into early labour by essentially expressing. I’m only 22 weeks!

but I’m in agony otherwise plus worried about it becoming mastitis. Some colostrum then came out of the boob I hadn’t touched but the side that had the blocked ducts is the side that I suffered with with my first so that’s unsurprising.

I’ve bought sunflower lecithin which helped with my first but can’t find anywhere online whether I can take it pregnancy or not.

FirstT1meMum · 08/09/2023 20:40

Congratulations @Mummyme87 ❤️

Oh no @buckingmad that sounds really painful.

This heat is totally wiping me out..I've only exercised twice this week and I feel so guilty I haven't tonight as i fell asleep for an hour and half!

Luhou · 08/09/2023 20:58

@Mummyme87 congratulations on finding out you're having a boy 💙

@buckingmad sorry to hear you're still struggling.

My DD was a winter baby, swaddling in a blanket always worked well for us, she was warm and it allowed us to put her down as she had feeling of security being wrapped up tight.

Mummyme87 · 08/09/2023 21:37

@buckingmad sorry you’re struggling with the boobs. You won’t put yourself into labour by hand expressing. Women breastfeed throughout pregnancy. Do what you need to relieve it.

RaspberryTime · 09/09/2023 12:47

Has anyone treated an insect bite since getting pregnant and if so what did you use? I’ve got a pretty angry one and would normally use Anthisan and Piriton but I know neither of these are ok to use now. Have tried Dr Google but he isn’t being all that helpful!

Kalodin · 09/09/2023 12:54

I took piriton still on the advice of my MW for hay-fever. Maybe pop down to a pharmacy?

RaspberryTime · 09/09/2023 13:39

@Kalodin Thanks for the reply. pharmacies all shut local to here now it’s Saturday afternoon…I feel like these things always happen on a weekend when there’s no help!

Ttcdcno1 · 09/09/2023 13:44

Yeah I had prickly heat a little while ago and was told by midwife I could take piriton @RaspberryTime

Hummusanddipdip · 09/09/2023 13:48

@RaspberryTime I'm another that was told in my last pregnancy to take piriton by my midwife. If you're not sure, give the mat helpline a call.

Ttcdcno1 · 09/09/2023 14:27

had the whooping cough vaccine today and feel totally fine bar a slightly sore arm when I lift it up

LittleAlien24 · 09/09/2023 14:54

@RaspberryTime i have quite a few insect bites and all im using is aloe vera gel or cream on them

Kalodin · 09/09/2023 15:31

Yeah ive always found simialr with that one too @Ttcdcno1 ! Normally all better the following day too.

How's everyone doing in this heat? Makes me realise I'm grateful for a winter baby this time. Previous 3 all came during heatwaves 😂

FirstT1meMum · 09/09/2023 16:57

@Kalodin it's exhausting! Today hasn't been as bad as being in work but I definitely feel for those who are heavily pregnant in this 🥵 Not sure if it's related or not to the heat but I really struggled with cramp in my legs last night 😖

Kalodin · 09/09/2023 17:05

I got awful cramp in my first pregnancy. Learnt to drink Indian tonic water and ensure I was hydrated before bed too. Used to wake up with it @FirstT1meMum

Have actually had a great day today with the boys, enjoyed the garden etc and sprinkler. However youngest has had a few seizures (he has epilepsy), unsure if it's heat related or perhaps he does need to up his dosage on his meds. Either way, shall call his Nurse on Monday. Do sometimes have a wobble that I'm being selfish having another baby when the 2 boys here are disabled and already need a lot of my attention

Luhou · 09/09/2023 17:12

Store manager in mamas and papas today told me they're going into mid season sale next week - if use to anybody!

buckingmad · 09/09/2023 17:23

I’m off to out of hours for my boob 🙄 they want to rule out mastitis or shingles! Really don’t think it’s shingles.

Still very sore though. Been cold compressing it which has been bliss in this heat.
