Congrats on all the scans! Great pictures.

buckingmad · 30/08/2023 09:21

Boy names are a nightmare, we only have one we agree on which is fine because I don't want any more than 3 children and our first two are girls!

We already have a Florence Elizabeth and think we're 99.99% set on Clementine Margot for this one.

Lightningrain · 30/08/2023 09:43

I’ve just had my whooping cough vaccine this morning and my arm is feeling very bruised. I imagine it’s going to be even more difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position tonight.

Very jealous of everyone feeling movement. I’m 21+6 and still haven’t felt anything that I could say with any certainty was baby moving. My placenta is on the left side so I can’t see that causing it. I know I’m just being impatient as the midwife said it’s normal not to feel anything until up to 24 weeks but I think it’d give me some reassurance that everything’s still ok.

We’re going to start decorating the room that will be the nursery this weekend, mainly because I want somewhere to put the things that we’ve bought so far so that I can work out what we still need to buy.

FirstT1meMum · 30/08/2023 10:09

@Lightningrain I've got mine in about half an hour, dreading it!

We had the carpet fitted in little ones room yesterday so it's all done decorating wise and I can finally move her stuff from out of our room today and get our room in some sort of order before I go back to work on Monday!

LittleAlien24 · 30/08/2023 10:10

@Hummusanddipdip i don't work with children but every name associates with something, my oh told me to stop doing it lol

buckingmad · 30/08/2023 10:50

@FirstT1meMum I've had it twice now and both times I was just a little tired after and an achey arm. It's the flu one I'm dreading! Felt really rough with that one.

@Mushroo love this! Maybe cat will adapt to like it 🤣

FirstT1meMum · 30/08/2023 11:36

@buckingmad it wasn't too bad! She said I might feel a bit ropey later so trying get stuff done now 🤣

Yeh, hoping by the time baby arrives I’ll have mastered the cat carry, surely harder than a baby 😂

PartRadish · 30/08/2023 11:44

I'll catch up properly in a minute but can anyone that is Rh negative offer any advice/reassurance please?

My 6 year old accidentally kicked me in the bump last night. I say kicked but it wasn't really a kick. It was near midnight and he still hadn't managed to fall to sleep so he was lay next to me in my bed. He's autistic and a huge sensory seeker so was flapping about trying to regulate and he swung his legs up in the air then dropped them down and one foot landed on my bump with a bit of a thud. Baby immediately started moving about, presumably a bit annoyed at the sudden jolt!

Anyway I rang the midwife this morning thinking I'd need an anti-d injection if my 16 week bloods have confirmed baby is Rh positive, was on the phone for less than 3 minutes. Didn't actually get to speak to a midwife but had it relayed to me that baby is Rh positive but midwife doesn't think the blow would've been hard enough to require anti-d. I just don't feel very reassured to be honest, but I can't find anything definitive to say what constitutes a potential sensatising event, everything just says an abdominal trauma with no real details.

Would it be a complete overreaction to ring triage for a second opinion?

Mushroo · 30/08/2023 12:11

@PartRadish I’d give them a call to put your mind at rest.

I had some bleeding the other week post sex (I think just from irritation) and they gave me anti-d for that, but that’s because there was definitely some blood so a risk of mixing I guess.

In your case it’s highly unlikely the kick would cause internal bleeding, but just give them a call to put your mind at rest :)

(FWIW I’ve since found out baby is also rhesus negative, so got injected in the butt for no reason 😩)

Mummyme87 · 30/08/2023 12:34

@PartRadish did it hurt when he kicked you? Not like bad but enough for that initial discomfort? If so I would be giving you anti D. It’s unlikely to have caused any bleed but you can’t be sure so I would tootle in to triage

Bims2019 · 30/08/2023 12:56

@PartRadish I'd agree with giving triage a call to put your mind at ease if nothing else, that's what they're there for. Hopefully they can give you a second opinion.

I had my first consultant appointment today, she was surprised I was there alone as she thought I was there to discuss the scan results from last week. I explained that a midwife had already called me to go through it and we were back to routine care, so that was a bit strange.

Anyway, we did also talk through birth options which was helpful. As it's an IVF baby she suggested that they might look to induce at 39 weeks (late December!), and we also talked through the possibility of a planned c section around the same date due to some other health issues. Long story short, she said they are happy to do either and we'll meet again at 36 weeks to make a plan. Does anyone have experience of either induction or elective CS? I'm leaning towards the c section, as a few friends have not had a great experience with induction. But open to any thoughts, I know it's such a personal thing and I'm glad I have time to think about it.

Lightningrain · 30/08/2023 13:02

@Bims2019 Mine is also IVF so I wondered if they’d suggest this for me. I haven’t had anyone mention anything in terms of birth plan as yet but I suspected they might not want me to go to 40 weeks.

I’m also a bit wary about being induced from what I’ve read of others’ experiences but I don’t know anyone personally that’d been induced. I thought I wanted to avoid a c section for the longer recovery time but will consider it if they suggest it as a planned one.

Sambeaumont · 30/08/2023 13:38

I was induced via a drip with my first, my waters had gone but labour hadn't started.
My labour was 16hours and ended up in theatre for a forceps delivery. I found the induction really hard but everyone's experience is different. Xx

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 30/08/2023 13:39

@Bims2019 and @Lightningrain I had an induction at 37 weeks with my first, was really scared, and it actually was fine. The worst bit was waiting around for a spot on the labour ward (3.5 days).

I had the drip and my waters artificially broken. After 6 hours on the drip I got an epidural, but just a smallish amount (walking epidural) so I could still move around, be on the ball, on my knees, go to the loo etc. I didn't tear or have any forceps and I was out walking my dog the next day. I'll likely get an induction again, and it doesn't worry me. Except for the waiting aspect, as I'll have to figure out childcare.

My sisters have had them (also fine but some tearing, but no interventions) and a couple of my friends have, also with no issues.

As an aside, I'd really recommend the Aniball. My friend whose a Dr recommended it to me, her friends used it too. All of us that have used it didn't tear. Possibly v v anecdotal, but I think it helped prepare me for the sensation and the muscles I needed to engage and move

Mummyme87 · 30/08/2023 13:51

I was induced with both of mine, the induction was fine, mine were both quite quick. Pessary I’m at 8pm Friday night both times, contracting by 10pm, in active labour with first by 6pm sat evening and delivered by CS at 9am Sunday morning, and second time in active labour by 2pm Saturday afternoon and had a normal
birth with some complications at 1am Sunday morning.

inductions can be long and frustrating, preparation is the key. I always tell women except 4 days of induction before active labour, bring all your tools to get you through.

the IVF thing is different in all trusts. We don’t do anything different for IVF pregnancies, no earlier inductions obvs unless there were other risk factors such as maternal age.

I’ll probably have an induction this time at 39wks at my request due to having mahoosive babies with a prev 3rd degree tear.

Mummyme87 · 30/08/2023 13:51

Also yes to the aniball or epi-no. Really good reviews before both and women swear by them. I’m definitely going to get one this time!!

JaffaCake123 · 30/08/2023 14:58

Had my 20 week scan this morning and baby is looking good. My placenta is low so having a scan at 32 weeks and hopefully it will have moved up by then.
Continuing the trend as it is another boy👶 ❤

1992H · 30/08/2023 15:05

So many scans this week! Congratulations all!
I had mine yesterday and it was an absolute nightmare-I was there hours. She was hell bent on not moving so they could get the images needed.
Eventually managed to get what we needed and she’s all fine but it was a long three hours of in & out the scan room and jumping around.

I hope it’s not an indication of her stubbornness to come!

LittleAlien24 · 30/08/2023 15:34

Congrats @JaffaCake123 @1992H

@Bims2019 I've had emergency csection and elective csection. Well elective was better than emergency one in some ways but still don't like none.
With my first i was having contractions from morning until 8.46pm, they broke my waters at some point but i still ended up having emergency csection even tho i was fully dilated 😔 I would take all that pain through out the day rather than csection but unfortunately because of my rare shaped uterus my births end up in csections (by google most women usually do with this type of uterus).

Mummyme87 · 30/08/2023 15:51

Congratulations on the scans @JaffaCake123 and @1992H

buckingmad · 30/08/2023 16:23

I went into labour naturally with my first but put on the drip to speed things up. I'm getting induced at 41 weeks with this one due to previous c section. A c section is my last resort, nothing against the surgery itself and I found the recovery a breeze too but I didn't have a toddler to run around after last time!

HopeAndStrength · 30/08/2023 16:32

I'm excited all the scans! Mine is next week :)
