@EL27 I've thought the same as you on whether it's worth going more expensive! The mamas and papas ones are really well reviewed but £1k extra for what looks like really similar stuff. I just don't think you'll ever know what's right for you until you've got it do you?! I want to get something good but don't want to be ripped off just because I'm a first timer! Definitely some things that are priced just because of the brand. Thanks for the Argos link, will check it out! I might take a punt on one while it's on offer and see what its like, can always return if it feels naff!

Ttcdcno1 · 24/08/2023 10:30

20 week scan went well this morning🥰the sonographer said everything was normal but slightly concerned baby has a big tummy after going down a google hole and checking abdominal circumference measurements. My bmi is just on the threshold for risk of GDM like .1 over so I’ve got an appt booked in for the test. Midwife said I could choose since it was so close but do you think I should just do it?

buckingmad · 24/08/2023 10:37

@EL27 @Onedayatatime24 I got the Mamas & Papas ocarro travel system for my first which came with the maxi cosi pebble pro baby car seat. For me it was well worth the money (I got a good deal on a previous season colour from a website that I now can't remember the name of! Maybe something like baby planet). It's lasted really well and taken a real battering as it has been down the stables going to and from the field in mud etc basically every day for the last 2 years and apart from one pin coming out for the underneath basket it's still perfect. I'm going to get it professionally cleaned by Mamas & Papas a couple of weeks before baby arrives.

It is heavy though! Which is great for going through mud but a bit of a pain for in and out of the car, but I manage at 5ft1. I thought about a lightweight stroller but they all have such puny baskets! I like my big spacious basket for carrying shopping/nappy bag.

buckingmad · 24/08/2023 10:39

@Ttcdcno1 you've got nothing to lose by having the test. It is gross though!

but my first had a big pot belly, short femur and a pea head according to her scan and she's perfectly fine 😅

sashastuck · 24/08/2023 10:41

Great news about scans! @Ttcdcno1 I know a couple of ladies who were told the same thing re stomach measurements. I think personally I’d just do it, but I’ve not done much research on the topic x

My friend is 4’11, baby’s head and stomach measuring average… legs ‘off the charts’ as she described 😂 I have no idea how it has happened!

Ttcdcno1 · 24/08/2023 11:22

@buckingmad yeah thats true. It’s booked in anyway.
Haha that’s good that she turned out alright, just searching for something new to worry about 😂

cossie13 · 24/08/2023 12:00

Hi ladies,

I'm useless at this! How are we all?

It's so nice reading about all the scans now, and we are getting so close to that 24 week mark! Me and OH have booked a private scan for next Friday because DD keeps asking if I've had the baby yet 😂so we want to show her where baby is. It'll be strange because then on Monday the following week we have our 20 week NHS scan!

How is everyone doing with movements? Are we all feeling our little ones now? OH can't wait to feel baby on the outside, he's ridiculously excited!

EL27 · 24/08/2023 12:20

Hi all (sorry me again 🤣)

I just realised I didn't ask yesterday about the MatB1 form. Completely forgot due to baby being in wrong position, also assumed I'd have a chat with a midwife after scan but didn't so I completely forgot about it.

How/when do we get it? Just checked my work want it before 15 weeks before due date (around 25weeks pregnant) and I'm 21 weeks tomorrow. Don't know whether leaving it until my 24 week appointment is cutting it fine?

Also yes @cossie13 feeling definite movements now, so exciting! My OH is excited to feel it too, everytime baby's moving and I tell him, he puts his hand on my belly to see if he can feel the movements and baby stops still 😆

PartRadish · 24/08/2023 12:26

Scan is mostly done! Baby was really awkward. They've said at every one if my cervical length scans 'this baby is going to be tricky at the anomaly scan' and they were right!

Two sonographers, lots of walking around the hospital and they still didn't quite manage to see everything they needed to but I'm back in in 12 days for my next cervical length scan so they'll try again then. They did stress that they're not at all worried and are certain the bits they need to see are there, it was purely a positioning thing.

Everything they did see looked great and they double checked the sex too, still a girl!

I genuinely can't remember when we get the MATB1! I think you can ask from 20 weeks. Might be worth just calling the community midwives and seeing if anyone can offer any insight and explain your dilemma with work?

Mine are getting stronger each day and more frequent, although still just 2-3 times a day ish. OH said he's starting finally feel excited (not that he wasn't before) now he can see a bump and actually see things happening rather than just being told they are! I've never known someone be as excited as he is, it's so nice

Kalodin · 24/08/2023 12:32

I'd probably do the test just to know and maybe start diet controlling @Ttcdcno1 - however, I'd like to point out that my previous 3 babies have all had larger abdominal circumference and I didn't have GD. DR explained to me often it can be caused by a really healthy placenta that's happily providing to baby. And actually that did make sense to me as with DS3 I had slight placenta abruption and he had a smaller abdominal circumference than the other 2.

@cossie13 Our youngest is the same! Hard to explain how long it takes a baby to grow, keep saying "not till after Christmas" here.

Ask your MW @EL27 - I am assuming your work already know you're pregnant too? So hopefully they will make allowances if it's late, I believe that you do not need the MAtB1 form legally to inform work and they can accept notice in other ways too. But hopefully won't be late! Not your fault if it is.

Oh wow! Definitely a mischievous baby! Hopefully they can get what they need at the next scan!

Ah yes, that's our response too but she still asks at least once a day 😂

PartRadish · 24/08/2023 12:37

All of mine have had larger abdominal circumference too, including this one! No GD with the older three and hopefully not this time either.

Mushroo · 24/08/2023 12:39

@EL27 my work wanted it before 25 weeks as well. I just text my midwife and she said to pop in and gave me one.

Failing that, I did ask work what would happen if I was slightly late sourcing it and they said it was fine.

MrsJ6921 · 24/08/2023 12:59

@EL27 my midwife said my trust gives it at the 24 week midwife appointment 😊

Kalodin · 24/08/2023 13:07

Can I have reassurance about Braxton Hicks please? They're really plaguing me (I'm 17wks +3), with DS3 they started this early and ended up going into labour at super early. Are others having them too? Had them this early and went to full term etc?

FirstT1meMum · 24/08/2023 13:15

For those who had previous larger abdominal measurements did they plataue out or not? Looking at my measurements her head and abdominal circumference is like in the 85th percentile 😳 Not sure if this can come down? Or maybe I'm totally misinterpreting them!

PartRadish · 24/08/2023 13:26

@Kalodin Not sure how reassuring it is coming from me but I'm having them frequently and quite intensely at times, with that awful feeling of pressure in my bum too. They started really early this time, around 14 weeks.

I can't remember if you've said if you're on Progesterone or not? I've missed the odd one over the last few weeks and it definitely gets much, much worse without the the progesterone so could be worth asking to start if you're not already on it. I'm guessing you probably already are though.

PartRadish · 24/08/2023 13:29

Oh also I have spoke to a few friends about it and all of them who had had a fourth baby said they'd had much stronger/earlier BH. None of them delivered prematurely or even earlier than than their other pregnancies. I know that's a very small pool of evidence but have to take the reassurance where you can get it I think 😆

Kalodin · 24/08/2023 13:32

They stay up there @FirstT1meMum , typically you want your baby to stay following the centile lines within a certain range otherwise there can be cause if concern of slowed growth etc.

They've not started me on them @PartRadish As starting cervical length was 48mm and last one was still at 41mm so they're happy with that. Also Dr isn't convinced my early babies were due to shortening of cervix but rather infection instead

PartRadish · 24/08/2023 13:40

@Kalodin Oh I would definitely ask about it in that case. My Consultant told me it doesn't necessarily stop the cervix from shortening but it relaxes the uturus and thickens the cervical mucus/mucus plug so can help prevent infection.

Kalodin · 24/08/2023 13:48

Sounds like the exact sort of thing I need to be on @PartRadish Thank you! I shall ask next time I'm in, on Wednesday.

Hummusanddipdip · 24/08/2023 16:19

Sorry for the photo, has anyone else had spider veins appear (not 100% sure it's pregnancy related) they've started to show up on the side of my bump, on my boobs and today I've spotted this cluster on my inner leg just above my knee.

Is there anything I can do to treat them, or can I just hope they'll go away once baby is here?

Scan all good! Baby measuring well and he’s definitely a boy 💙

Did you find that the sonographer was pressing down REALLY hard? Was hurting me a fair bit but I didn’t want to say anything. He was head down so felt like she was crushing my pelvis area trying to get the head measurement
