Great to hear that people have had good news with scans today, keeping everything crossed for those in limbo! Good luck for your scan tomorrow @Silverpixieflorence

My first meeting with midwife went well, I'm categorised as low risk which was good to hear. My scan last week was at 8+4, I'm not sure I can wait until 12 weeks to scan again. Would it be silly to have another one at just after 10 weeks in between?

Silverpixieflorence · 11/07/2023 19:52

Thank you @Meeting and @DmcinT 🫶🩷

@Meeting not silly at all! I've got one booked for 10 weeks (as long as tomorrow is ok will keep the appointment) as I know I'll need the extra reassurance and those 4 weeks in between 8 weeks and 12 weeks are the longest weeks in the world!

DmcinT · 11/07/2023 20:46

@Meeting not at all, I’ve another one booked now for when I’ll be almost 10 weeks as well. Any wee extra reassurance is great 🥰 these weeks tend to just drag dont they

SmartiesParty · 12/07/2023 01:20

@Meeting no not at all I had one at 7w4d, 9w5d and 10w6d as I was worried

Meeting · 12/07/2023 05:57

Ahh thanks everyone, definitely going to book a 10 week scan today!

Also what week is everyone thinking of scanning if they want to find out the sex? X

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/07/2023 06:27

@Golaz @DmcinT and @Mismatc lovely to hear your scans went well!

@User0224 have to say the sonographer wouldnt even tell me the heartbeat as she said it causes too much stress so they aren't allowed. Hopefully it's all okay- it doesn't sound too different to their cut off.

@Silverpixieflorence good luck for your rescan

@Meeting not at all. I'm planning to get the nipt at 11 weeks which has a scan included. It feels like a long slog through til the 12 week scan

I was just going to go with the NHS 20 week scan

Meeting · 12/07/2023 06:59

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I haven't heard of that before, what is it please?

@SmartiesParty I'm not sure I can wait that long! Far too excited to start baby shopping for the first time

SmartiesParty · 12/07/2023 07:02

@Meeting NIPT is a screening test. You can pay for it privately it's around £200-300 or if initial screening on your nhs 12 week comes back high risk they do it as a follow up

Re the gender I don't really need to know urgently as I prefer non gendered stuff anyway!

I did it through a Harmony blood test last time which was done at 11 weeks! Too impatient 😂

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/07/2023 07:20

@Meeting its a more accurate screening test than the combined test that the NHS does because it looks at the foetal free dna in your blood. It tests for Edward's, Patau and Downs and the accuracy is meant to be 99% I think.

You can do it from 10.5 weeks and also get the sex of your baby from the blood test. Depends where you're based but it's £375 here and you get a scan first.

I had it in my first pregnancy because my scan wasn't until almost 14 weeks, so the combined test isn't very accurate then. It came in useful later on because I had a worrying growth scan, and the consultants said they could trust the nipt but would have had to do more tests had I just had the combined test. In any event it was all fine but I was grateful I had it

Thanks, yeah crossing my fingers all will be okay! Going back in for a check Friday evening x

acm1996 · 12/07/2023 07:28

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 my scan won't be until 13w1d going by my lmp, does this mean it won't be as accurate?

Meeting · 12/07/2023 07:37

@SmartiesParty I've just been looking at it online, not sure if it's worth it as I was categorised as low risk yesterday at my first midwife appt

@User0224 I really want to do the same but can't decide if I should just try and wait a few more weeks

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thank you, I feel like I'm just being impatient, it's £350 near me and I can afford it but I could also wait a bit longer and spend that money on baby stuff!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/07/2023 08:29

@acm1996 no I think that should be fine. I was 13+5 or 13+6 from memory. My nuchal translucency measurement was still okay, but just not as accurate. I came back low risk still after the scan but I paid for it anyway afterwards for peace of mind

xTinkerbell · 12/07/2023 08:52

@acm1996 I’m 12&6 by lmp but 13&5 by early scan dates when I get my nhs scan. Spoke to a family friend whose a midwife and she said as long as i’m not over 14 weeks it’ll be fine

DmcinT · 12/07/2023 09:25

Oh so exciting to think we could know the sec that soon, I’m in Ireland so I’m not sure where or who is go to for this nipt or harmony test, I must have a look now and see. Any others from Ireland here by any chance?

MrsC2711 · 12/07/2023 09:28

This thread is so bloody useful!!
it’s been 9 and a half years since I went through this and I can’t believe how much I’ve forgotten lol!
I think I will be classed as high risk due to age and previous complications with my beautiful boy so I’m going to look into the private test just for some reassurance. I didn’t have anything tested last time but I think I might go down the private route this time.

Even if the blood test gives gender I still think I’d have the scan at 16 weeks to double check lol. I think Hubby wanted to wait until baby arrived but I just can’t so I called the “I’m growing a human” card 😂

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 12/07/2023 09:40

@moosey89 sorry its not the 21st it's on the 17th - Monday! must have baby brain already 🤦‍♀️🤣

Anyone else not finding out the gender??

We kept it a surprise with our other two and loved finding out that way, so we think we’ll keep it a surprise again. I think we might be in the minority though 🙈

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 12/07/2023 10:02

@sherbertlemon17 I don't know. I found it so hard picking names last time, and had it narrowed down to one sex! I do think a surprise could be nice, but then don't you see it yourself at the scans, or do you just look away?

xTinkerbell · 12/07/2023 10:17

@sherbertlemon17 I’m not finding out either. This is baby 3 for us too and didn’t find out with the other 2 though I did have a very strong feeling each time.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 maybe i’m just clueless but I wouldn’t have known from the scans. I don’t think they look in depth at that area if you’re not finding out the gender they don’t look much at that area

We didn’t with our first & wont with this one either. All of our friends found out but I like the surprise!

I also found people were less likely to buy specific colours (blue/pink) and contribute their name suggestions when we didn’t know! What is it with having a baby that means everyone thinks they have a say in naming your baby (some were jokes but a lot of family very seriously gave their suggestions!)

sherbertlemon17 · 12/07/2023 10:30

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I think I remember the sonographers asking if we wanted to know and then telling us to look away before.

@xTinkerbell I had a strong feeling that my first was a boy… she is very much a girl 😅 I think it's amazing that you knew! What genders are your current children and what do you think you're having this time?

@Tilly18101 100% people are much more neutral when you don't know, which I love. But this is why we don't tell anyone our favourite names 🙈

Strawberry06 · 12/07/2023 10:32

I always wanted a pop out surprise but since I had a miscarriage I want to know everything I can so we have have decided to find out the gender but keep it to ourselves only and pretend we don't know! I can't be done with people buying us pink or blue lol. We have one girl name and one boy name picked!
