Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice really - not sure if anyone has been through something similar.

Had our NIPT results back and great we are really low risk for Downs/Edwards/Pataus. At the screening, they asked if I wanted to be tested for everything and not knowing otherwise we said yes.

Now we've come back 67% positive chance for Triple X. We've never heard of this, and from what I read NIPT is highly inaccurate for this section but obviously it's causing a lot of upset. We're being referred on for genetic counseling.

Has anyone been in a similar position?

Inmydreams88 · 11/07/2023 20:58

I'm 34 and got 1 in 10,000 for Down's, Edwards and Pataus. I was expecting it be be higher due to my age.

Onedayatatime24 · 11/07/2023 21:33

@MrsJ6921 thanks, that made me feel better! I know it's such a low risk and probably just finding things to worry about! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ I read that anything lower than 1 in 150 is low risk so pretty good when you look at it that way.

Also I didn't receive anything about PAPP-A levels in my screening results, should I have done? Or is this normal if low risk?

RG9895 · 11/07/2023 22:01

@Onedayatatime24 I was thinking this! Me either but I have a midwife appt on Monday so I am going to find out then if I can. Where abouts are you based? We have very similar results and I am wondering if they go off location as well unless im just being silly!

Bims2019 · 11/07/2023 22:15

I'm 35 and got 1:54000 for downs and 1:100000 for pataus/Edwards. Was also really surprised as expected higher risk for my age, no idea what else they take into consideration!

No mention of papp-a so I'm assuming it was fine ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Onedayatatime24 · 11/07/2023 22:25

@RG9895 I'm in Nottingham! Where are you?Could be location, seems like none of the trusts do anything consistently so could be anything ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ my letter was pretty brief and literally just listed the two chances and no other info!

Mummyme87 · 11/07/2023 22:31

@Firsttimerugbymum my friend from works girlfriend who she is doing reciprocal IVF with (well is infact pregnant now)โ€ฆ well the girlfriend has triple X. They used her eggs without genetic testing. Her gf didnโ€™t know about this chromosome until they started IVF

Matildahoney · 11/07/2023 22:37

I'm 40 (test age 41) screening results were TS 13/18 1:15680. TS 21 1:54, but NIPT has come back low risk for all. Papp a

Matildahoney · 11/07/2023 22:38

Hit post before finishing!
Papp a 0.90, HCG 3.3 which was classed as high age elevated my downs risk at screening.

RG9895 · 11/07/2023 22:45

@Onedayatatime24 ahh perhaps my theory is wrong then as I'm in Kent! Mine too, no mention of papp a and the others things others are mentioning. Its annoying they all dont do things the same way isnt it!

Salamander91 · 11/07/2023 22:56

I think all first stage formula is pretty much the same except the comfort/anti reflux type ones. My advice would be to find out what your local open late shop sells and pick one of those if you dont have a 24hr supermarket close by. Nothing worse than realising you've ran out after the normal shops have closed.

Dannic2018 · 11/07/2023 23:18

Oh god reading all of your results makes me anxious that mine which are classed as low risk and no concerns are def not as low as all of yours, for downs itโ€™s 1-840. Iโ€™m 38 and BMI of 30 so not sure if that makes a difference. Well I shall try not to worry anyway. Also have a doc appointment tomorrow as I had a slight tinge of green in my discharge today (sorry tmi) and felt a bit like I had thrush, still taking progesterone pessaries twice a day till next week so not sure if Iโ€™ve got a infection or what, always a worry isnโ€™t it

LittleAlien24 · 11/07/2023 23:21

I know it's too early but im driving myself crazy here looking at car seats lol it was much easier 16 years ago ๐Ÿ˜‚
Im thinking of maxi cosi with iso fix base so if needed a quick pop into shop, docs etc i could take the seat out or joie spin 360 but that means having the buggy with me in the car all the time.
Money wise joie seems to be better option, it's cheaper than maxi cosi and last until 4 maybe 3 years of age.
Would i miss the option to take the seat out with baby?!
What are your opinions on this?

Kalodin · 12/07/2023 05:32

What a worry @Firsttimerugbymum , I hope you are able to get seen for answers quickly and have support?

Definitely get yourself checked out @Dannic2018 , hopefully easy to treat

I love my Joie360 @LittleAlien24 and usually used a wrap for popping to the shops. But tbh, if it was a grocery shop, I got that delivered and if it was heading in town for a mooch then it would be the pram, which would be great with the basket underneath etc.

Kalodin · 12/07/2023 06:12

Managed to get to the gym again this morning and feel like crying at how much my body has gone backwards in strength ๐Ÿ˜ญ I know I'm growing a whole new human, I know I've been ill and I know I've not been here consistently because of feeling so tired BUT I am so disappointed and disheartened ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I'm struggling to even squat 30kg this morning ๐Ÿ˜ญ I used to squat over double

Does anyone have any recommendations for a travel system? I had a quick look yesterday (mainly to work out a budget) and it seems to be a minefield.

I assume travel systems are a better option for first time parents as we donโ€™t have any of the items already and weโ€™d need something with a carrycot for use from birth.

We live fairly rurally but I think Iโ€™d use a baby carrier rather than pram for walking to the shop. The pram would be for wherever we go out in the car somewhere so I donโ€™t think weโ€™d need anything made for all terrain. I think my priorities are going to be lightweight/easy to manoeuvre and put up and down for the car. Do people tend to move onto a lightweight stroller type once the baby is old enough? I read that a lot of people find the travel system pram too cumbersome and end up switching, so if thatโ€™s the case I feel like I donโ€™t want to spend too much.

I think finding a shop that stocks a few brands is going to be the best option but any recommendations would be great.

Kalodin · 12/07/2023 06:24

Best thing to do is go out and try them @Lightningrain - I kept mine in their prams for quite a while, laying flat, until they started pulling themselves upright, and then I switched them into the Seated part (facing me). I live in a city so arguably didn't need one with great terrain control but I'm glad it did because I found navigating curbs and cobblestones easier than my myms friends with their lightweight strollers. I also love the carry basket underneath for storing everything. Plus, it meant I could take the pram to the woods etc and navigate easily.

So I had maxi cosi pebble for newborns and then Pearl for after. Then I gave the Pearl to my MIL and bought a Joie I spin which I hate. Compared to the maxi cosi it feels cheap and flimsy and also is so much more difficult to take in and out. We want a second one for our other car plus will eventually need a second anyway for this baby so I am going to get the maxi cosi Pearl 360. It is more expensive but just so worth it I think. You can get it from boots and get a load of points! The base is currently a bit cheaper as theyโ€™ve just brought out the pro version.

If you get a travel system too then being able to take the car seat out and popping it on your pushchair is so handy if theyโ€™ve fallen asleep and youโ€™re just popping round the shops etc.

Iโ€™ve got the mamas and papas ocarro. Itโ€™s taken a real beating as itโ€™s come to the stables with me practically every day for almost 2 years but it still looks really smart. Itโ€™s pretty good at navigating mud/grass etc. It is heavy though.

I thought about getting a cheap light stroller but tbh just never got round to it. DD will be 2.5 when baby is born so my plan is to get a buggy board or depending what weโ€™re doing baby go in sling and toddler in pushchair.

TunnocksTCake · 12/07/2023 06:55

Re car seats we had a travel system first with a newborn car seat then I got the joie 360 when she outgrew it! I stupidly bought the nuna Demi grow thinking we'd have 2 closer together (it converts to a double) but think dd will be way too big. It is a lovely pram just heavy but good on all terrains. It's great to be able to put your car seat straight on the buggy for sure!
I think John Lewis do appointments where you can go and try them, or mamas and papas?

Mummyme87 · 12/07/2023 07:37

@LittleAlien24 Iโ€™m having the same debate re car seats. I have the maxi cosi Cabrini fox but my other two screamed in it all the time and we do 5plus hour journeys up and down the country. We need a new in between car seat anyway as the last one broke. I did used to use the cabriofix car seat in the pram occasionally or to put in a trolley as was handy but could I live without it? I hear good things about the Joie spinโ€ฆ need to look at the in person.

@Lightningrain i had a Bugaboo chameleon for my other two. Used it until they were both 3yrs old, didnโ€™t really do the light weight pushchair as loved the pram. Iโ€™m keen for an uppababy vista this time but need to persuade OH because of cost ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ definitely go and look around. The baby show is always great, next London one is October, but also John Lewis, mamas and papas, thereโ€™s a place called Babybarn near Esher in Surrey if youโ€™re localish?

Mummyme87 · 12/07/2023 07:38

*cabriofix not Cabrini fox ๐Ÿ˜‚

suz2285 · 12/07/2023 08:33

@FirstT1meMum head over to Reddit to the NIPT subreddit they're so helpful and you'll find loads on there! I don't know much about xxx but there's heaps on there about monopsomy and they rarely turn out to be a true positive.... that's why the NIPT here doesn't usually test the sex chromosomes as they tend to throw up false issues! Fingers crossed for you! ๐Ÿคž

Salamander91 · 12/07/2023 10:21

I've bought a maxi cosi citi because I like being able to lift the car seat out when they're teeny. I'm planning on buying a cheap pram from a charity shop/Facebook marketplace because I know I'll be fed up of the bulky thing and switch to a lightweight stroller as soon as I can.
