Actually quite amazed we don’t have more babies by now.. only one (I think?) and it’s mid-July!

I was just checking in on you all and thought the same @BCxx ! We’re in Disney Land. I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep following once babies start arriving en masse, so will wish everybody all the very best for your deliveries now. Lots of love. xxx

newmummie · 16/07/2023 17:34

@BMK thanks so much! I've had the cramping on and off since Thursday, I've noticed today they've totally ramped up a little but still mild cramps. Last night they got quite intense and the cramps then went into my thighs. I'll definitely keep track of them to see what happens. Probably pretty normal to feel this at this stage tho and it not be labour related?

Marmaladebear · 16/07/2023 17:54

@AnnieApple123 have the best time in Disney land!!! So lovely to see you here. Sending lots of love to you and your family too 💕

On early babies, there are loads of on the Facebook group! Like a lot more than I was expecting and I think someone has gone in today to give birth too!!

@newmummie oooh sounds promising! For me when cramps started my baby was born a couple days later (they started, stopped for a bit then started and got stronger and stronger and closer together all day/night) but I know some people on the Facebook group have had cramps and then not given birth so everyone's different! Def a good idea to track xx

BCxx · 16/07/2023 19:50

Ahh please keep us updated if anyone on here has theirs then! I’m not on Facebook

@AnnieApple123 hope you’re having a nice time away.. your little boy will be loving it! 🥰

BMK · 16/07/2023 19:58

@AnnieApple123 soooo lovely to hear from you!!!! And so amazing (and tiring!!???) to be in Disney world!! I was literally thinking of you earlier and was going to ask how you were at same time as inquiring after Sally, but didn't want to be dragging you back In! Have you taken any holiday for just you/down anything for just you?*you definitely owe yourself a lovely break away from all!!!!
Re FB group- aah: I'm not on it so that's interesting . Arr people from the list here updating their deliveries there and is it emergency /issue stuff or just early onset labours?
@newmummie well cramping means sth is brewing so be that a week,10 days or less it will probably happen within the week.. I would however also take a magnesium tablet if you also have leg cramping (when you said it went into your legs) as cramping (apart from period/baby etc) or eye spasm/twitching is indicative of magnesium deficiency too

Dj20 · 16/07/2023 20:00

Hi everyone. I’m a bit late to the thread but thought I would say hi. I’m due on 20th August with my first, having a little girl. :-)

Marmaladebear · 16/07/2023 21:32

Welcome @Dj20 😊 not long for us to go!!

I have no idea what people's usernames are on the Facebook group 😂 I remember struggling with that with my first baby and we were a much smaller group so I just gave up!

Marmaladebear · 16/07/2023 21:33

People's Mumsnet usernames I mean!

airmaxJ · 17/07/2023 01:31

@Dj20 hi and welcome how is your pregnancy going?

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 17/07/2023 08:39

@AnnieApple123 so lovely to hear from you. Aw Disneyland, I bet you and your family are having the best time. Disney is the best 💕 I hope you are keeping well.

@Dj20 welcome, final stretch for us all now 😊

marleyandme · 17/07/2023 08:53

Hey all, for those not in the fb group I delivered my beautiful baby girl last Tuesday after my waters broke spontaneously at 36 weeks. It was a bit of a whirlwind and I pushed her out pretty fast after contractions ramped up very quickly.
We're home now and doing pretty well but because she's so tiny 5lb 7 at birth and her sucking isn't fully developed, she has dropped to 4lb 10 so we're on a feeding plan which is intense and basically means no sleep for me as I'm either breastfeeding or expressing to top her up all the time. I've had lots of tough days with the lack of sleep, hormones and with mixed messages and mixed support from the health visitors but I'm feeling positive today. Trying to get hold of a electric pump to help with expressing.
Hope everyone's little ones are cooking nicely and a bit longer than mine! She's absolutely beautiful though and I'm so in love, she's worth all the effort.

EsmeSusanOgg · 17/07/2023 08:55

Massive congrats @marleyandme !!

BCxx · 17/07/2023 09:10

Awww so glad to hear all is okay @marleyandme 🥰 huge congratulations! Hope you manage to get some sleep in between all the feeds. Maybe the electric pump will help let you get a bit more rest in between

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 17/07/2023 09:15

Congratulations @marleyandme 💕

Amme18 · 17/07/2023 10:10

@marleyandme can you get one through health visitor/midwife/breast feeding support at your local hospital?? Should be able to xxx

Marmaladebear · 17/07/2023 10:39

Huge congratulations @marleyandme !!! Sorry you are getting mixed messages and support from the health visitor - I also found them really hit and miss with my first (with some of them saying actual mean things to me). Hope you are getting lots of support from your loved ones and the pump helps - those early days of getting feeding established are so tough. Sending lots of love xxxx

BMK · 17/07/2023 10:49

Congratulations @marleyandme for getting through that and being a warrior for the last week. You however do now start to need to get rest or you will turn into the most unhappy rabid creature! Definitely electric b pump. The Spectra S1 or Medela or something hospital grade. Really well done on doing what you've been doing as that breast milk will make such a difference to her. I just looked and you weren't due until Aug 7th so that must have been one unbelievable shock!!! You probably weren't even on mat leave or anything!**had you even a hosp bag!?
I'm so happy for you that all worked out oj even though it is really tough for first 4/6 weeks and teh unhelpful health visitor is literally enough to break you when you're so exhausted but if there's one you like maybe ask if she could call as you find her more supportive for you..

DomesticElf · 17/07/2023 12:40

@marleyandme congratulations, lovely! 🥰 You are doing so well! Definitely get a hospital grade pump if you need to express. I remember first few weeks with my 1st, my milk took about a week to come in, so the stress of getting little one fed was real. You will get through it, promise.
And as @BMK said, look after yourself too. Sleep whenever and however you can, it will keep you sane.

I had to go in with reduced movements on Saturday, all was ok (of course he started kicking the moment CTG went on), but it automatically triggers a growth scan within 72 hours. Had this today, and beastie is slightly under 50th centile, which is a mild downward trajectory. Also, my first was a chunky monkey, measuring above 90th centile, so there is a little seed of apprehension at the back of my mind as per why this one is smaller.. Section is booked for 2 weeks' time.

Dj20 · 17/07/2023 14:06

@airmaxJ I have been lucky in the way of pregnancy symptoms throughout. But I had high BP prior to pregnancy so am consultant lead, they have struggled to get the right dose in this pregnancy which then meant a few days in hospital back when I was 29 weeks. They were worried it was preeclampsia but all come back fine. Worst thing is I suffer from white coat syndrome as well so my blood pressure is always high when I go to any doctors for a check up, it’s so frustrating as at home it is all fine.

hope everyone else’s pregnancy journeys haven’t been to difficult x

Dj20 · 17/07/2023 14:09

@MinnieFirstTimeMum can’t believe it is now the final stretch. I’m just ready to meet her now .

@marleyandme congratulations on your little one 💕

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 17/07/2023 14:13

@Dj20 I know, these last few weeks seem to be flying by. I am actually due the same day as you (20th) but I have my c-section booked in for the 17th. So knowing he will be here in 31 days is crazy.
I not finishing work until 6 days before though so that struggle is real 😂 x

BMK · 17/07/2023 14:50

@DomesticElf are the measurements reliable? Like is it reliable that baby is on downward growth trajectory/has stopped growing so to come down to the average? I saw too on my scan that my baby's femur length had gone from consistently in 90 something centile to 55th,which I equally found odd and particularly given that head etc are in 90s.. I was thinking (*more hoping) that perhaps measuring ability isn't reliable. I know it's not reliable re weight but not sure if reliable for measurements

DomesticElf · 17/07/2023 15:33

@BMK well, that's the thing, there is room for error and measurements are not always reliable, especially if the baby is not playing ball and contorts into difficult shape. This was the case today, his head is already low, and he was not showing his belly in the best view either, so I am telling myself it could be that. Thankfully he wasn't anywhere near fetal growth restriction criteria today, but if it wasn't for the planned section I would have been brought back for another growth scan. He is coming out in 2 weeks at the latest anyway, so it should be ok hopefully.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 17/07/2023 16:13

Pretty sure I read somewhere that growth scans can be out by 15% either way.

I have been curious to know there accuracy because every midwife appointment I go to seems to end with me being referred for a growth scan.

Recoba · 17/07/2023 16:59

There are a lot of variables for growth scans - experience of the sonographer, abdominal circumference variability (e.g. if your baby has just peed they might have a smaller AC, but if they haven't peed in a while they might have a large AC), and whether it's easy to get the measurements or not. My guess is that if you're getting regular (several times a week) growth scans you're likely to get a good picture of the rate of growth, and a better idea of the absolute birth weight, but if you're just getting them occasionally then they're basically hit and miss.

My trust does scans at 36w now as standard, so I've got mine on Friday. Mostly going to use it as a gauge for whether I should get any newborn size clothes (currently all 0-3m, because my first was 9lb 5oz).

Anyone else getting concerned about the various NHS strikes going on? I see there are now consultant strikes on the 24th and 25th August, and radiographers (which can include some sonographers I think?) are on strike 25th to 27th July. And it's NHS rotation day first Wednesday in August (2nd). Hope no-one has been adversely affected so far.
