@Gremlin84 it's not good that he didn't reply. My husband is like this though, rubbish with his phone. It must be frustrating on your scan day. Did you plan anything or tell him you wanted a nice dinner? With my OH I always have to say exactly what I want to do. I'm sure the scan is special for him too - he just might not have thought there were plans?

WitcheryDivine · 27/06/2023 20:11

@Gremlin84 I'm sorry about that, if you can I'd calmly tell him that you'd hoped to have a nice evening in - hopefully he'll arrange something for tomorrow. Only fair to tell him what you're thinking.

@CarnelianArtist I'm getting instant heartburn/gurgling from eating sugar, I just forgot this and had a mars bar. Urgh.

Gremlin84 · 27/06/2023 20:12

@CarnelianArtist Yes, I asked what he was up to this evening, he said he had no commitments, so I said we could have a lovely evening together. That’s why I’m annoyed. If plans change fine, but at least tell me before I’ve waited around for hours.

Mummyme87 · 27/06/2023 20:28

@WitcheryDivine I told my manager at 7weeks. I’m a midwife on labour ward so it’s within my interest to tell people to be supported and get a break!!!

Hummusanddipdip · 27/06/2023 20:55

Welcome and congratulations to the newbees.
@amynolan that is a perfect scan!

@WitcheryDivine I told my HT at 5 weeks as I panicked, to be honest I wish I hadn't, I wish I'd kept it to myself until my scan next week, but I couldn't work out what to put on the absence form. And equally she saw me in January sobbing because I'd just found out 2 of my colleagues were pregnant and had a nasty case of the green eyed monster. So just easier to tell.

Ah sorry that is really frustrating. Definitely worth a chat when you've calmed down to explain it was important to you, you wish he hadn't cancelled or at the least should've given more notice! Sounds like he wasn't thinking.

Kalodin · 28/06/2023 06:48

Actually managed it back to the gym again this morning! Just woke up feeling refreshed finally! Taking it slow and light but managing to do my usual routine! Haven't managed much at all since becoming pregnant

buckingmad · 28/06/2023 07:12

Anyone else still being sick daily? I do at least feel almost normal after I throw up but my throat is so sore from the acid and I’ve definitely pulled some tummy muscles from the hundreds of times I’ve been sick the last 6 weeks!

I know with my daughter the last day I was sick was the day of my 16 week appointment but I can’t remember how much I was being sick between 12-16.

Only 3.5 weeks to go to 16 weeks 😭. I always thought I wanted 3 children but honestly not sure I can go through this again!

Luhou · 28/06/2023 07:33

Good to hear others are struggling with healthy snacks..nutella sandwiches are my vice at the moment.

@buckingmad still being sick, but 2 weeks behind you, with my first it eased at 12 weeks and disappeared about 16, hopefully will start to ease for you soon. If it doesn't, consider anti-sickness medication? - Worth discussing with your MW

This happened to my mum with me, she said eating food made her sick, she could barely eat. However with my younger sister she wasn't so sick. Equally one friend also had a much easier, less nauseous, second pregnancy.

It is normal to be sick every day, as long as its not to the point you're dehydrated - if you are you need to call the doctors. It doesn't mean you'll be sick each time so try not to worry about future kids.

Are there any downsides to telling work? Just balancing up whether to do so soon or wait a bit longer.

I told my work quite early as I was struggling to stay awake haha! I think it depends on the relationship with your manager though, I've got a fairly good one and she's recently just come back from maternity leave so she understands. It's totally your call though ☺️

I've not been sick luckily, but super nauseous and in a way I kind of wish I was sick to get some relief sometimes.

Drinking warm fluids (or any fluids in general) can help with your sore throat though! Hope it clears up for you soon 🤞🏼

Mummyme87 · 28/06/2023 08:08

Luckily I’m not being sick everyday, I would say a few times a week. It’s really grim though, hope it settles soon @buckingmad

I’m 11weeks today! Another week until my nuchal scan

Onedayatatime24 · 28/06/2023 08:46

@WitcheryDivine I told my work at 6 weeks because we were going for early scans and it was just easier than having to lie about appointments. Mostly been brilliant about it but I do see in some cases how I'm being looped out of certain big projects happening next year. Not massively out of the loop and I get it, as I won't be here (hopefully!) But still kind of weird that they're planning for stuff without me when even I don't know what's going on and if everything's okay! So mentally it's been a bit weird for me, but I'm glad they know as it's explained me being brain dead for the last couple of months. I guess depends on your own situation and relationship with your manager! I haven't told the whole team yet until we have our 12 weeks.

WitcheryDivine · 28/06/2023 09:25

Thanks for all the replied about telling work, I think I will tell my manager soon - my managers are nice and were so supportive with my MC, but they're older with the pregnancy/little kid phase decades in the past so I am a bit worried they'll just think it's an inconvenience/sideline me.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/06/2023 09:37

Weirdly I was sick for the first time in my pregnancy at 13 weeks. I don’t think it was morning sickness as it’s too late. I just hope I’m not coming down with something and it was just a one off thing.

At work there are lots of promotions going. I’m being cheeky and holding back telling boss about pregnancy until after they’re given out. I think it will be too late to get the new wage to count for maternity leave but it will be good to have a better job for a few months and when I come back.

CarnelianArtist · 28/06/2023 09:46

@ThomasinaLivesHere it's not cheeky at all, no obligation to tell anyone yet if you dont want to. I'd do it if I weren't feeling so rough and lazy.

I've gone back to work after a couple of days off. Trying to find some motivation. My manager seems to have handled things so well whilst I've been gone. I'm kind of relieved but also slighlt guilty I didn't think of those things he's done now and feel like im missing opportunities. Hey ho!

I keep searching for curry on deliveroo. I hardly eat curry and I've heard it can give you indigestion in pregnancy but I really like the idea today.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/06/2023 10:07

@CarnelianArtist Thanks for the reassurance. I do wonder how it will look but want the job.

Curry sounds good to me too 😋

WitcheryDivine · 28/06/2023 10:28

Nothing wrong with curry, 1.5 billion Indian people can't all be wrong!

I've had some curry while pregnant and it was completely delicious and really satisfying, I went for some slightly blander things with potato etc rather than hot spicy vindaloo.

Kalodin · 28/06/2023 10:59

Curry is amazing and actually I really find a curry settles my stomach!

Like with anything, just listen to yout body, if you fancy one, give it a try @CarnelianArtist

I'll be cooking one tonight for dinner

Vikki7 · 28/06/2023 11:01

I OD'd on curry last week and now completely gone off of it! I had Madras, Korma, Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken within about 5 days with roti!) my body has moved on to nachos and chilli con carne now! Haha! Next week - who knows?!

lilluce95 · 28/06/2023 12:05

@Vikki7 haha chilli con carne has been my fave too!! Such a good way to get extra veg in without exclusively eating it 🤣

I used to love bananas, tried to eat one this morning and it made me gag, even the sight of them is making me feel sick now haha

greengreensummer · 28/06/2023 12:25

Hope you don't mind me joining! I'm due on 15th Jan and have my first scan on Tuesday, just wondering if anyone has any advice for my current worries or similar experiences?

  1. I want to tell my two bosses, who are so lovely and we get on really well, today or tomorrow but I am soooo nervous for some reason. I am really struggling to build up the courage I don't know whats wrong with me!!! I normally can chat to them about anything. Did anyone else feel the same??
  2. I had my blood test results back last night and a few of the things they tested for were higher than the standard level. My DH said not to worry too much, they would contact us if they're really concerned but he might have been saying that because it was about 9 last night that I was looking at them. I was thinking that maybe I should call the hospital? Scan is on Tuesday so didn't know if they would discuss it then? Maybe a bit more complicated that my hospital and community midwives are separate and the notes aren't linked.

In case it's not obvious I have a tendency to worry a bit, it's also my first baby and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed which is making me feel a bit foggy, plus I have ridiculous fatigue at the moment.

WitcheryDivine · 28/06/2023 12:45

Why not wait til after the scan to tell your bosses, then you can feel on a firmer footing?

Sorry no advice on the blood tests but you should have a number for the midwives where you can call them up and ask them what happens next. With mine you leave a message and then someone calls you back, they've been absolutely brilliant so far.

RG9895 · 28/06/2023 12:49

Just marking my spot on this new thread, hope everyone is doing okay! I'm 12 weeks today and have my scan on Monday. So excited but also so nervous...
