@Mushroo I think boy because my skins crap and with my daughter I glowed the whole way through.

Also because my husband defaults to "girl" when mentioning this baby and defaulted to "boy" with my DD.

So yea, based on nothing. I'm not doing the nipt so won't know until 16/17 weeks when we do a gender scan though will compare when i finally have my NHS scan in 2 weeks

Mushroo · 20/06/2023 09:37

@TrudyProud my skin is crap too - so many breakouts, there is no glow whatsoever.

I’ll put that in the ‘reasons for a boy’ evidence.

cossie13 · 20/06/2023 11:12

Morning all, I haven't read everything from over the weekend but it's been a chaotic one for us with visiting family and Sunday my OH went off to the Cricket with his mate while I helped his mate's partner look after their kids which turned out to be more stressful than anticipated. OH got back from cricket quite drunk so we ended up going to bed on an argument. Only for me to wake at 3am with excruciating stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen - right where baby sits.

OH took me to A&E, saw severally specialists, was poked and prodded, had a vaginal swab (sorry for TMI) to be told there's a small bleed sat just below baby and they think that it's likely that the bleed is being reabsorbed by the body and apparently that can be quite painful. They won't scan me again as I've not long had a scan.

As I say, it's been eventful and I'll be grateful for this weekend to come along as we have no plans and I am looking forward to just chilling if I'm honest!

How is everyone?

Also, welcome and congratulations to anyone new!

goldlion123 · 20/06/2023 11:16

Hi there!

First time poster and first time preggers 😊

I was just wondering what is the normal for taking time off for the 12 week scan? Maternity policy says it can be taken as paid leave and I'd rather not use my annual leave for a half day. Depending on how long the appointment is I could be out of office all afternoon...which isn't your typical doctor's appointment! Should I tell my manager what the appointment is actually for?

sashastuck · 20/06/2023 11:28

My skin is also bad! Will add that to the boy reasons list! My friend is having a boy and her skin is bad too.

@goldlion123 congratulations! I did tell my Head what my appointments are for for that reason, I felt a bit sneaky but not saying anything but you don’t have to. They might question why you need the whole afternoon off? Not sure what your workplace would be like!

cossie13 · 20/06/2023 11:41

@goldlion123 congratulations! My work know and I told work with my other 2 as well. It just made it easier for taking time out for appointments. The scan shouldn't e much more than an hour out, it depends how backlogged the hospital is! It's the booking appointment that I remember being loooong - mine is Monday next week 😊

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 12:00

@cossie13 sorry to hear about the argument, drunk OH's are worst! we also had an argument on Sat that lasted into Sunday, seems to be better now though, not what you need! hope the pain is ok and that's all it is. What a stress!

@goldlion123 congrats! I'm also having this dilemma, i don't want to take time off for it i was hoping to just sneak it in during the day like a doctors appointment, but our work are quite flexible, I don't want to mention it to anyone yet, but it'll depend what day it is if i have to move things at work, so we'll cross that bridge when I know (soon) when it'll be - hopefully someone who's had one recently might know how long it takes!

@cossie13 my booking appointment was bang on an hour full time firing questions at me but i've got to go back to do bloods and urine next week! Managed to do that during lunchtime though which was handy!

Bims2019 · 20/06/2023 12:01

@goldlion123 welcome and congratulations!

You are legally entitled to paid time off for antenatal appointments, so you shouldn't need to take any annual leave regardless of how long it takes. I would tell my employer so they are aware and know that you don't know exactly how much time you'll need. Hope this helps!

Got my 12 week scan in a couple of hours! So excited/ nervous! I just want to know the little baba is ok!

I wfh some days and have mandatory office days. Supposed to be in the office tomorrow. I don’t know how I’m going to manage, every day now, I have my head in the loo being sick. It sounds so violent! My stomach and throat convulse and contract, I retch so loud, my eyes, nose and mouth all streaming. It’s not nice but somehow, after I have got it out, I feel better for about 20 minutes.

praying this nausea / sickness stops soon!

cossie13 · 20/06/2023 12:11

@suz2285 They really are, he couldn't understand why I could just let him have he day. I did and he had a few too many drinks and didn't look after himself given how hot it was. He has apologised since but this is why I hate him going on nights out. I know he has his own life and mates etc, but there's more to life than alcohol. Go for a coffee during the day instead. But yeah, we're hoping so too. If everyone at the hospital is confident that's what it is then I'll trust them. I'm still feeling insanely queasy so I'm hoping that's a good sign that everything is ok in there!

Ah ok, well hopefully mine won't be too long. Although I have booked the day off just because I only work 9:30 - 2:30 so to take time out in the middle of the day feels like I'm taking the piss a bit. And I wouldn't really want to go back to work!

buckingmad · 20/06/2023 12:54

My skin is crap but was also crap with my daughter. I’ve also had very similar symptoms so am leaning towards girl.

Id heard girls take your beauty for themselves whereas boys make you more beautiful 😂

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 13:20

@lucya66 thats so exciting, let us know how it goes! your sickness sounds awful, are you taking anything for it? i'm the same with wfh and office days

@cossie13 yeah i know exactly what you mean, my DH is the same once there's drink he just can't stop and turns into a pain in the ass, lucky its only a few times a year but yeah can't they just go for dinner like i do with my mates! Esp when it's so warm, it's a double whammy of drunk and extra dehydrated! I'm also feeling much more nausea again the last few days so that's fun! But like you say hopefully a good sign. I might take the day off for mine too depending on what day it is too!

I really want a girl but no thoughts yet as to what i might be having, no doubt a boy because i want a girl haha, i mean healthy yes, but we're getting old so just incase it doesn't happen again i'd like a little girl...

MsLaidBack · 20/06/2023 13:49

Thank you all for you kind words and well wishes but unfortunately I have miscarried 💔I was lucky I knew the nurse so I felt really comfortable and supported. My OH is being amazing too.

I wish all of you the best x

Salamander91 · 20/06/2023 13:50

I'm so sorry for your loss @MsLaidBack ❤️

Onedayatatime24 · 20/06/2023 14:06

@MsLaidBack So sorry to hear this, hope you and OH are both doing okay, take care of yourself!

Onedayatatime24 · 20/06/2023 14:10

Has anyone else experienced very few symptoms? Especially since hitting week 9?

I felt very iffy during weeks 5-8, off food and generally not myself but never really had any sickness or sore boobs even from the beginning. Only thing I'm experiencing since week 9 is very tired (but when am I not!), bloated, thirsty and getting up to wee in the middle of the night. If I didn't already know, I wouldn't even think I was pregs!

I know I should be grateful but so worrying not having any indication everything's okay...

Outdamnspot23 · 20/06/2023 14:35

I'm so sorry @MsLaidBack - it's just the worst. Please ask people for the support you need.

@Onedayatatime24 yes that's been my experience too. I have my 12 week scan this week and am utterly paranoid that they'll tell me it's all over, I'll report back if there's any reassuring news.

Lilothblos · 20/06/2023 14:59

I’m so sorry @MsLaidBack , thinking of you.

Sorry to hear that @MsLaidBack take care of yourself

@goldlion123 you can take time off work for antenatal care, you don’t need AL. I find it a challenge , working in the service it’s like they expect you to do appts in your own time, which I do mainly but got combined bloods next week on a work day and I’m not changing the appt as it costs me money to get here and park already!! Told my manager I had an appt and she was like, well if there’s someone to cover you 😑

having lunch break now. Properly flagging. Can’t tolerate no breaks or late breaks anymore

youaremysunshine03 · 20/06/2023 15:24

oh I’m so sorry @MsLaidBack 💔 take care of yourself.

@Onedayatatime24 my symptoms have really fluctuated. I remember losing all my symptoms at 9 weeks in my first pregnancy and being terrified but everything was fine and it just turned out to be an easy pregnancy. The wait for the 12 week scan is so hard. This time it’s a lot different and I feel rubbish most days!

Outdamnspot23 · 20/06/2023 15:39

BTW re the appointment, if you don't want to tell (and I don't) just say the doctor has referred you for some tests. Tests take ages!!! And it's half true as you will be having tests while there (bloods etc).

Buttonmoon86 · 20/06/2023 15:57

im so sorry @MsLaidBack thinking of you

suz2285 · 20/06/2023 16:08

@MsLaidBack i'm so sorry to hear your update, take care of yourself

@Onedayatatime24 yes, so I felt like death weeks 5-8, then suddenly felt much more like myself! Was worried, had a scan week 9 and all looked good, tbh the nausea has returned the last couple of days back to being bad and not wanting to eat anything in the evening again, so back taking some tablets! Its a horrible feeling but least it makes you feel like things are ok!? I did ask the midwife and she said normal for things to fluctuate, and OMG the peeing, i already needed the toilet a lot but this is another level, i drink so much water at work but i'm either walking to the water or the toilet at the mo!

@goldlion123 yeah i don't want to tell my work yet either so i'm just hoping it will be not too long , and if i need to say anything i'm just going to say a hospital appointment because that's what it is, i work with doctors though and across from the maternity unit so it's going to be difficult to not bump into anyone i know at some point before i'm ready to tell people i'm sure!

LittleAlien24 · 20/06/2023 16:25

@MsLaidBack so sorry to hear this.

@buckingmad I've heard it as well that daughters take your beauty. i looked crap with my 2 previous pregnancies and got 2 girls 😁
