@sashastuck Good to know I’m not the only one having issues with those tablets.

@Niam4 Hopefully your sickness should ease off in a few weeks.
On when to tell people. It’s personal choice. For us we’re waiting until after 12 week scan. It fits in well as the weekend following my scan we’re having a little gathering for my son’s birthday so we’ll tell close family then. Like you I’m also a bit nervous about making the announcement and getting some attention from it as I don’t like being centre of attention.

WitcheryDivine · 05/06/2023 15:25

I told a handful of people including my family early last time, then had a MMC at 12 weeks. Having to upset my parents was honestly one of the worst parts of that day. This time I intended not to tell anyone unless we got through the 12 week scan, but so far 2 friends know as I needed to talk to one about a worry I had, and the other is a doctor and just would have guessed anyway. I am hoping not to tell anyone else. Quite honestly although I'm partly very excited to tell people, another part of me kind of just wants to keep it a big secret until about 20 weeks!

Mushroo · 05/06/2023 15:30

I told my BIL after the 8 week scan just because we see him every weekend and it was getting too hard to hide!

Will tell family and close friends after 12 weeks, but won’t do an ‘announcement’ in group chats etc until 20 weeks. If I see people between 12 weeks and 20 weeks I’ll mention it though. Also aiming to hold off telling work until 20 weeks. I wfh so that should be ok.

were very private though and I wouldn’t tell anyone if I had a miscarriage - if you’d want the support of people you may as well share the news.

It’s so tricky knowing when is best.

WitcheryDivine · 05/06/2023 15:52

It's interesting how different everyone's perspectives are. I think I would find it easier to say to close family "I've had some news today that I've had a miscarriage" and accept their support, than to have raised their own hopes beforehand. @suz2285 I can't believe your mum still doesn't know about what happened last time, you must be very strong to get through it without as much support x

suz2285 · 05/06/2023 17:05

@WitcheryDivine it's difficult cos like you said I didn't want to disappoint anyone when something had gone wrong so I was kinda glad I didn't say anything but then I feel like if it happens again I can't keep it to myself this time as it'll be even harder, it's a difficult one! But hopefully all will be ok this time 🤞 I def do not plan on telling loads of people until after I'm showing 😂

@Mummyme87 I'm so tired as well, esp after a day in the office, then I feel so lazy at the weekends as I'm not really up to doing much! But wow enjoy pizza express haha!

Mummyme87 · 05/06/2023 17:11

I’ve told quite a few people, I don’t mind people knowing early. When I say a few, it’s work people I see all the time and it’s helpful they know, my mam and my best friends.

Onedayatatime24 · 05/06/2023 17:17

I've told work early too as was just easier with the appointments and I am a terrible liar! Also told both sets of parents and siblings, which was scary but actually reassuring as both mums had some symptoms (like early bleeding/no nausea) that I was worried about but turns out pretty normal. Both mums have also had miscarriages so I knew they'd understand if the worst was the happen.

I'm just not sure when to tell close friends... Seems weird keeping it from my bff of 20 years, but I'm kinda nervous telling people outside of family, not sure why!

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 05/06/2023 18:50

I'm another that told work early, I told my head teacher and my phase team as we've worked together for 4 years now and are incredibly close.

We told parents at the same time when I was 6 weeks, weren't planning to tell ds but them my mum turned to him and said "how exciting that mummy has a baby in her tummy" 🤦‍♀️ not told any other family yet and luckily he hasn't repeated to nursery, but has mentioned the baby in my belly a few times to me and dh...

Has anyone else been suffering with acid reflux? I've had hiccups today and the back of my throat was filling up, it's the worst!

stressshead · 05/06/2023 19:04

Does anyone no what high implantation means please xx

FirstT1meMum · 05/06/2023 19:11

So interesting to see when people have told, if they have! Such an individual choice. We told our immediate family a week after we found out as we are rubbish liars and knew they wouldn't say anything and it's been amazing having the support from brother and sister in law who have been here, done this and have got the little munchkin 🤣
Told work today and it was such a relief to get a positive response! Wanted to give them as much notice as there's timetables and staffing to consider and risk assessments (plus selfishly appointments and protection).

Unrelated - last night and this morning I've experienced like gagging like I want to be sick soon after I've eaten, I've not been sick properly and don't feel overly sick any other time. Is this likely to be baby or something else?

sashastuck · 05/06/2023 20:26

So lovely to hear everyone’s tales about how you’ve told others/are waiting! I’ve told some close friends but waiting to 12 weeks to tell partner’s family (as we see them pretty much weekly) and will tell my family when I see them which won’t be until 15 weeks eeek!

Just had a lengthy phone call with a midwife from the genetics department - @Mummyme87 wondering if you can help me with this! So I had an appointment booked in for Friday to have genetic counselling regarding DP and I both being carriers of thalassemia (different types of it though). Anyway, she’s now booked in to see me on Monday instead and is going to do a DNA test for both of us, but also said she’d do my other bloods so I won’t need to go to my bloods appointment at 11 weeks. Does that sounds about right? Works out better for me as less time off work but it seems a bit scary to just miss my bloods appointment?

Thank you all for your reassurances last night after I had a lot of worry due to lessening symptoms.

Straight after I posted last night, I went to the kitchen to bring my dinner that I had been craving all day, as soon as I smelt it, I gagged and heaved and couldn't stand it! Disappointment, sickness and relief all in the same moment!
All symptoms came back full force today so I'm feeling reassured and bleurgh! Haha!

I've been given antibiotics for a suspected UTI today and got my NIPT test next week. I'm only on the antibiotics for 3 days so I'm hopeful it will not affect the bloods.

I'd never heard of a genetics midwife, maybe I should get in touch with my midwife for a referral as I have a chromosome abnormality that has a 50% chance of being inherited.

I've only told my Mum since we live 200 miles away and a friend (also 200 miles away!) so far. I don't have a big social circle to announce too. My sister is getting married end of July so hoping to see some family there but will tell them before hand, I don't want to surprise them on my sisters day! I should be 17 weeks by then.

I hope everyone is managing well, the first trimester really is a trying time in every way! :-)

EL27 · 05/06/2023 21:40

Hey,

Random one, has anyone heard of the Ramzi theory?

I heard about it for the first time today and as I had a scan at 7+6 I had to check!

'The Ramzi theory suggests that the gender of a fetus can be seen as early as 6 weeks by looking at which side the placenta develops. According to the theory, if the placenta develops on the right you are likely to have a boy and if the placenta is on the Left then you are likely to have a girl.'

I looked at my scan and can see the placenta on the left so immediately thought girl but then read apparently abdominal scans are mirrored so apparently it means boy!

I know this theory isn't 100% accurate and probably just a bit of fun. But apparently some studies have been done so who knows. I've attached an image of how you can tell where the placenta is.

I think it's fun to look now and hopefully see if it's accurate in the future 😅

Anyone else getting pains lower abdomen or on one side when standing up too quick? Or sneezing? That caught me the other day, wasn’t expecting that

Misspotterscat · 05/06/2023 22:00

@Ttcdcno1 I have been having sharp little twinges today on and off, I’ve been sneezing a lot and have noticed them after a sneezing fit. I was starting to panic a little bit.

I get a twinge on the right if I sneeze or stretch funny! Not exactly a pain, more like a pulling sensation.

Mummyme87 · 05/06/2023 22:10

@sashastuck yes that’s fine. They will just do all your bloods at the same time rather than bleeding you twice. And like you say, less time off for you!

suz2285 · 06/06/2023 06:48

@EL27 yep, did the ramzi on my early scan, it says 67% a boy, im hoping for girl 😂 basically it's just for fun as it's all unproved but it is fun

@Ttcdcno1 yep to the sharp pains if I roll over too fast, sneeze or cough etc! Think it's just the muscles stretching, my hips also feel like they're attached by rubber bands at the mo... 😂 and my back is aching

Plan is to try and start some strength stuff this weekend if I feel human during the day!

sashastuck · 06/06/2023 06:48

@EL27 yes I looked into the Ramzi theory! That’s exciting! Looking at my scan photo (it was transvaginal) that’d indicate baby was a boy, however I’m sureeee when the sonographer was checking my ovaries on the scan the image was flipped! So will have to wait and see on the next scan.

@Mummyme87 fab thank you!

ThomasinaLivesHere · 06/06/2023 07:04

@Ttcdcno1 sounds like round ligament pain. I’ve had it before. Just things stretching.

I’ll go look at my ultrasound pic to see - just some fun though as with a 50/50 chance these things appear correct to some. I know someone that went to a psychic but she got hers wrong 😂

sashastuck · 06/06/2023 10:26

@ThomasinaLivesHere nooo what a waste of money! 😂

How inclined would you be to eat a prawn sandwich from Tesco? I’m sat at work craving savoury, I’m going to have to crack open my lunch but what I reaaaaally want is a prawn sandwich. Probably fine right or might the prawns/mayo be a bit dodgy?

I've never heard of ramzi theory! Does the placenta sit on the same side as the ovary which the egg came from? This could be very interesting because if that's the case everything points to girl for me! Including doing the Chinese gender predictor which was bang on for my other 2!

sashastuck · 06/06/2023 10:46

@cossie13 It doesn’t mention if the placenta sits on the same side as where you ovulated from, although going by my picture, it seems to be that way! Chinese prediction says boy for me! God wait until we start having our 12 week scan photos to study for nubs 😂

OP posts:
cossie13 · 06/06/2023 10:55

@sashastuck ah ok, I might have a search and see if there's anything Dr Google can help with on whether it does sit on that side because apparently they can tell that the baby came from my right ovary! 😂

It will be exactly like that! And again, that worked perfectly for my other 2 and as we've decided not to find out what we are having I'll be predicting left right and centre! My OH's family are all boys. It seems to be their genes that just produces boys and yet everything I've looked at says it's going to be a girl!

suz2285 · 06/06/2023 11:27

@sashastuck prawn mayo totally fine! no issues unless it wasn't cooked right but from tesco i'd say totally safe!

Chinese and mayan gender predictor has me as Girl, Ramzi currently says Boy. I want to find out though, I just feel it's better to have my head around what i'm expecting I think! But nothing is really accurate until later on, even the nub theory, even when they say it's one or the other, i think until 16 + weeks so won't know for a while yet!
