3 weeks till my 20 week scan and this anxious wait is killing me ,

Due 27th November

Is anyone else feel like they are massive for 17 weeks?

I feel huge lol struggling to sleep with the massive bump in the way 😂

Is this normal to be big for 17weeks

Hope your all well ladies 💙🩷💙🩷

@LeeanneD11 me 😂 I'm 16+3, everyone keeps telling me they didn't show until 28 weeks with their first. I'm huge! I've had 3 'are you sure it isn't twins?' and 2 'if you're that big now you're going to need a c-section to get it out'.

I still have my usual waist width to look at me from the front but I just got hella deep at the front. People are doing double takes at work. I'm tempted to wait to see how big I need to get until they are sure enough to ask 🤣.

TMI2000 · 16/06/2023 08:53

I still have a 2 and a half week wait until my scan and it is draggingggg.
It is my first pregnancy so I haven't really felt any movement at all yet and any time I think I have I feel can be explained by other things so I am convincing myself it is not movement.
I want to buy one of those dopplers but I know it will end up being unhealthy for me! Anybody else got a doppler?

Midwives really dislike them as you don't know what you're listening for. The midwife that did my doppler took a good 5 mins to find baby, and even double checked by holding my pulse in my wrist while listening to what she found to make sure was different and wasn't just mine again. Several sounds in there - your pulse, digestive system etc.

You're not trained to find the right thing so people end up panicking because they can't find anything they think is right, or for example feel reduced movements, check with the doppler, find their own heartbeat and think it's the baby and is fine so they don't go in to get checked out and actually there was something wrong. It can give false reassurance as well as false concern.

TMI2000 · 16/06/2023 09:15

@FlyingHighFlyingLow Yeah, this is why I don't think it is an option for me, I just know so many people who do end up getting them and just wanted to see if anyone here had one out of curiosity.

Travellingislife · 16/06/2023 09:28

@Psqueak87 Babies need less than you think, I made the mistake of getting lots for my son around the 20 week mark but there really was no need.. In hindsight I wouldn’t even have bothered sorting his room out and I didn’t use it until he was at least 6 months!

@Mldn aw congratulations! Lovely news!

Travellingislife · 16/06/2023 09:31

@38andtrying I basically live in sports bras ( went up one size when breastfeeding) and bralettes 😅 They even worked when I was nursing. I’m usually an A cup but my boobs were probably a C or D when I was nursing.

PinkPlantCase · 16/06/2023 09:33

If your anxious then your own Doppler will probably cause more harm than good. It really isn’t many more weeks to go until they’ll be lots of movements!

@FlyingHighFlyingLow those are such unhelpful comments from people!! Especially the c-section one.

I’m 17+4 and showing loads. In my last pregnancy I had a huge bump too and people liked to make jokes about twins, baby was over a week late and weighed 7lbs13 which is actually a bit less than average. Huge bump doesn’t mean huge baby!

LeeanneD11 · 16/06/2023 11:15

@PinkPlantCase

Very true I was massive for my first baby and he weighed 8lb 4oz - 2 days early

And the same with my girl was big and she weighed 6lb 3oz - 4 & half weeks early

But I'm eating loads this time round I feel big for 17weeks not complaining as I do lot of exercise

Xx

BabyBabyBaby123 · 16/06/2023 11:19

I’m also feeling pretty big this time around. I feel like my body’s muscle memory has snapped me back into a bumpy shape much quicker than last time.
I have carried big with both of my DDs, but I’m only short at 5ft 1ish, so I don’t think there’s much space for baby to go anywhere other than out.
DD1 was 8lb 9oz at 41 weeks, DD2 was 7lb 3oz at 38 weeks. So decent weights both times.

JD90 · 16/06/2023 11:21

@GreenAventurine I'm in a very similar boat, I'm 38 and almost 17 weeks with my second. My daughter will have just turned 14 when this one arrives. At the moment she isn't very impressed at all to be honest! I have a feeling it's a boy but 20 week scan isn't for another 3 1/2 weeks. Had my 16 week MW apt this morning and luckily have got the same one I had at booking which is great as she was super lovely. As its been so long between babies she is booking me in for apts as if it is my first too which I find reassuring. She doesn't do doppler at this point as she said she has found a lot of the time people find it more anxiety inducing if she can't find it yet (but will do it if people are absolutely insistent) but explained that guidance now is not to use them for clinical knowledge as MW doesn't gain anything from it but can be used for bonding/maternal reassurance. So she will start doing it from my next apt which is about 25 weeks I think.

@LeeanneD11 we are due date buddies 😊 I don’t feel very big in the morning but by the time I’m going to bed I feel massive and so uncomfortable - definitely gets bigger as the day goes on!
last few days I’ve tried to eat less carbs (was eating loads!) and upping my water and that’s helped a little 😊 x

Hi due date twin . Yeah I'm drinking loads and trying to eat less but it's not happening lol 😂 I feel massive but baby was weighing 5oz on Monday and she said that's good size . But is it lol 😂 xx

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 16/06/2023 17:39

@LeeanneD11 @Hopewishprayer I'm only 1 day later at 28th November due date!

I'm trying to eat healthier but tbh if I fancy something carby I eat it. I lost so much in the first trimester, at my 16 week appointment yesterday the midwife commented that I'd lost weight since my booking appointment despite the fact I'm huge! I'm still about 5kg down from before pregnancy. Not aiming to get it all back (size 12 pre-pregnancy but BMI was considered obese) but I'm going to stay relaxed about it for now and see how it goes. Anything size 12 thats low slung enough to still wear feels loose which is a bizarre contrast to how tight everything is further up 😂😂😂

When did everyone start buying there baby things? And buggy? I started so late last time I panicked . I am looking getting the buggy just after my 20 weeks scan as I'm set it on and don't wanna change my mind xx

BabyBabyBaby123 · 16/06/2023 18:51

@LeeanneD11 I have lots of things already from DD2, but we actually bought our pram last night as it was on an offer and was a preorder and out of stock in other shops we looked at and I don’t want to miss out.
I’m 18 weeks, but we don’t have much else to buy.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 16/06/2023 20:22

@LeeanneD11 we’ve ordered the Mountain Buggy Duet cos we need a double this time.

I still love my Venicci Tinum 2 that is going strong 17 months in so would really recommend one of those.

I'll have a look at the pram , I have been looking at the Ickle bubba pram & icandy too xx

BabyBabyBaby123 · 16/06/2023 20:27

@LeeanneD11 when we got the Venicci we were choosing between iCandy Lime and Tinum 2 and went with Tinum in the end and have been really pleased with it.

I plan on using it again when DD is in nursery and I don’t need the double to take the baby out.

Have you been to a showroom to see them? That can really help you make a decision when you’ve seen them in real life.

No I haven't , I have just looked at the venicci tinum it's so nice . I'm not sure if there is a local one , as I'm from brighton . But I'll have a look at one of them . Xxx

GemmaJen · 17/06/2023 07:17

@LeeanneD11 We still love our cbex balios, still going strong after 4 years and fits my 99th centile almost 4 year old. We do need to get a new car seat though, I think it's recommended to replace them after a few years. I'm a bit stumped, they're just so expensive now!

PinkPlantCase · 17/06/2023 07:51

@GemmaJen I think car seats have an expiry date on them, from memory it’s about 10 years. Though the law on rear facing may have changed depending on when you had your last one.
