Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@LaVitesse2022 we've already seen a few nurserys as our local ones fill up quickly, and (assuming it goes ahead) the extended free hours/including babies kick in September 2024 just as we need a place so expecting places to be more popular than ever

katherine123x · 23/07/2023 19:54

@Mldn 27+4!

ttcttc · 23/07/2023 19:59

Sex has stopped in our house too 🙈

To be honest I can't be arsed but my partner just doesn't want to have sex with me and that makes me feel like he's gone off me. He's really affectionate (too much lol) but just says he thinks it's weird and he feels like he's gonna hurt the baby being on top of me. Of course he isn't and he knows that but feels weird for him. A couple of time we have done it, I haven't liked the sensation in my stomach. The baby moves and my stomach goes really hard and it's off putting. It just isn't comfortable I can feel there is something in there more when I'm moving about (tmi!)

I'm sure if I really pushed it he would but don't think that's fair although I don't know if going for months without is normal either.

Needtobuildabridge · 23/07/2023 20:11

@ttcttc That first part is exactly how I feel. I don't want to have sex, but I want him to want me. Which is stupidly contrary I know. I guess thinking about from now, until at least 6 weeks post birth....
It feels like an eternity to be without the intimacy that I need from my husband 😔

Smiffette · 23/07/2023 20:11

I have had baby down at my DD same nursery since I was about 12 weeks, they said I should get name down asap, so I did. Thankfully got exactly what I wanted and all confirmed in writing.

I'm taking slightly over a year, so may leave starts on due date and then go back start of November.
My DD starts school next year so made sense to stay off for October half term so I don't have to worry about childcare for that.

ttcttc · 23/07/2023 20:21

@Needtobuildabridge it's very contradictory isn't it 🤦🏼‍♀️
My partner is very touchy feely and likes more attention than me (I suppose we meet half way, he'd like more I'd like less) so plenty or cuddling and touching but because im hormonal I'm always thinking why he doesn't want to have sex with me and making up scenarios in my head that aren't true 😂. It's out of character for him as I used to joke he'd even want sex with me if id peed myself 😂😂

LaVitesse2022 · 23/07/2023 22:36

@PeopleAreToads yes, good point about the Sept 2024 expansion. Ideally baby would go from September to receive those free hours, but realistically I might need him to go a bit earlier.

@Smiffette oh my, now I'm worrying I'm leaving it too late! 😅 Really need to start looking into it

monsteramunch · 23/07/2023 22:41

These recent posts have been a good kick up the arse for me to look at childcare options for September 2024 onwards asap!

Me too! I've had the forms for ages but need to fill in and send them back. I hadn't realised about the change in free childcare either!

Hope everyone is feeling well and those with sickness are finally feeling better. I can't believe how quickly time is flying!

Thank you for mentioning the extended free hours - I hadn't heard about this yet! Just got in touch with the two nurseries local to us for next fall.

I've finally stopped throwing up thanks to an omeprazole prescription for my reflux - not sure if anyone else is on this here, the long term effects make me a little nervous but it's honestly been a miracle drug (I took a break from it yesterday and barely got off the sofa...). Baby has been really active too which is great. We've made good progress on getting all the stuff we need, fairly on track to have the baby room ready within a month or so. Hope everybody is in a good place this week! Xx

peonygirl · 24/07/2023 09:50

@cruciverbalista I have been given omeprazole a week ago and the consultant and midwife both looked at me as if they are giving me something magical :) it does help I think although just like you, I am a bit sceptical about a long term use. The consultant's assistant assured me it is safe and I can take two pills per day to ease the symptoms. I am not throwing up but have been continuously nauseous again after meals for a couple of weeks now.

I have been in touch with a nursery months ago because as a single parent I cannot return to work without childcare. Our university has its own nursery so I have now been assured there will be space for the little one in May when I am set to return to work. Sadly I cannot be without an income to stay home longer. I know it will be very hard for me to part from the baby at 6-7months but I am set to work from home most of the time so only 1-2/week when I go to the uni I will drop him off at the nursery. I hope this will also ease transition into childcare for him in case I'll need full time provision from September onwards (unlikely but always possible because teaching is now more or less all on campus).

katherine123x · 24/07/2023 11:26

Anyone had any side effects from the whooping cough vaccine??

LaVitesse2022 · 24/07/2023 11:27

@katherine123x nope, none whatsoever x

peonygirl · 24/07/2023 11:36

@katherine123x nope, not even a sore arm.

katherine123x · 24/07/2023 11:39

Thanks ladies. Mines this afternoon!! Just wanted to see what I could add to the list 😂😂😂 great to hear x

Sagittarius25 · 24/07/2023 11:41

@katherine123x I had a bit of a sore arm and, on/off mild headaches for two days afterwards. It was during the hot weather in June so this may have contributed but would have been very co-incidental as I haven't suffered with headaches since first trimester.

cruciverbalista · 24/07/2023 13:06

@peonygirl I am so impressed with your resourcefulness in going it alone. No idea how I'd be coping without someone to share the load with. House would be a tip for sure.
@katherine123x just a sore arm for me :)

Chanteuse · 24/07/2023 13:25

@cruciverbalista @peonygirl
I’ve been prescribed omeprazole since the first trimester as I’ve suffered with heartburn/reflux throughout and was throwing up acid at one point 😬 I was also a bit concerned about the long term effects but I’ve just been taking it when I’m desperate and managing the reflux as best I can. It’s worked for me, the reflux is definitely under control now

OrionNebula · 24/07/2023 14:17

@katherine123x nothing for me, all good.

Koalawhala · 24/07/2023 14:18

Glad you've got your sickness more under control @cruciverbalista @peonygirl. I'm not familiar with the meds but you've got to be able to function for you and baby so it's good that you're taking them.

I've got my whooping cough appt tomorrow. I can't remember having any side effect from it last time.

Hey ladies, hope you’re all doing ok. 27 weeks this week. Can’t believe how fast time is flying by. Got my Anti D injection next week and I am still absolutely dreading it. Just really hoping it’s the same as any other injection…. Lol fingers crossed. Anyone else feeling huge and achy all the time now? How I will last another 13 weeks I have no idea 🤣

Hopefulx · 24/07/2023 16:25

hey ladies!!

I also have my anti D on Thursday so I’ll let you know how it is @Summer022 Has anyone had it yet?

the midwife today worried me a bit as she said it can be painful and is given in the bum? I wasn’t bothered about it but now I am worried lol I’m sure will be fine - how bad can an injection be :)

I am 30 weeks today! And decided to get a flu jab in August based on this research:

Conclusions. Influenza vaccine given to pregnant women is 91.5% effective in preventing hospitalization of their infants for influenza in the first 6 months of life.

My eldest got flu when he was 6 months and we had to stay in the hospital for 6 days. It was horrible

Has anyone got a good list of what they need to buy? Used so many online lists to compile my own but still feel like I've missed things!

Or recommendations for what's worth it/not worth it from those who already have DC would be much appreciated 😊
