Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@VanillaOat take no notice of them. It's probably because you're nice and slim so your bump is prominent. I have gained all over. I'm like a whale 🐳 😂. My arms and legs are growing as quick as my belly but my boobs are still .. crap 😆.

Do you know what you're having?

Chanteuse · 16/07/2023 12:45

I’ve had a growth scan and my boy is measuring off the charts 🫠 so I’ll likely be having a September baby!

PeopleAreToads · 16/07/2023 15:54

@VanillaOat everyone seems to have an opinion on these things! I'm a similar build to you and have only really put weight on my front and my bump looks similar to yours. I've had a growth scan already and baby was only measuring 24th centile, though the consultant said its too early to be a real indicator of birth weight. So I really wouldn't worry, every bump and baby is different!

monsteramunch · 16/07/2023 17:24

@VanillaOat

Me and my bump are almost identical in size to you and yours and yes, I've had lots of people assume I'm much further along than I am.

It's incredible how a woman's body seems to be socially acceptable to comment on throughout pregnancy, even by total strangers. It's as if we are just a vessel in some people's eyes and they forget they're talking to someone about their actual body!

I think maybe if you've only put weight on the bump area it looks bigger than it does on people who have gained weight in a more evenly distributed way.

I'm going to miss my bump but am already wondering quite how big it's going to be in another three months!

OrionNebula · 16/07/2023 22:11

@VanillaOat you look great, I'm 28 weeks today and think I am about the same size as you. I'd post a pic for comparison but I'm very unflattering pyjamas right now!

I just booked a 3D scan for week after next Smile I wasn't sure whether to bother but I figured this is definitely the last time I will be pregnant, so why not!

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 17/07/2023 06:16

Just as a reminder folks, if you’re going on holiday and any of the travel dates fall after 27 weeks, get your fit to fly note way earlier than you think! Costs £15 from your GP, can take up to 28 working days to come through-we’re off today on our babymoon (eeee) luckily ours came through early but our midwife was saying another of her patients couldn’t go to Florida because hers didn’t get through in time!

After all the talk about kicking a few posts ago, I had a worried day yesterday as baby was being very still-must have been behind the placenta though because the second I was thinking about calling Triage suddenly the gymnastics came out! Classic!

peonygirl · 17/07/2023 10:06

Anyone else struggling with insomnia? I have been having sleep issues for weeks now, waking up at around 3.30 but was able to fall asleep after an hour or so. Last night though - no sleep till 6am. I am totally out of sorts now, no idea how to concentrate for work. On top of all, baby was really active during my insomnia hours and is now quiet which makes me worry more. I am not linking this new development... 25w today.

Sagittarius25 · 17/07/2023 10:16

@peonygirl yes me!! The last week it's really hit and I'm either struggling to get to sleep until past 1am or getting to sleep then awake for 2-3 hours in the middle of the night. Last night thankfully I had a good night but it feels like every night is a lottery at this point 😬

I hate not sleeping well when there's no apparent reason! I was going to mention to my midwife at my appointment tomorrow, but did read on nhs website it isn't a problem for baby, basically just makes you feel worse than normal.

I know the key to insomnia is not to stress about not being able to sleep, but that's so much harder to do when you know you're growing a whole human and wanting the best for them!

Sagittarius25 · 17/07/2023 10:19

@peonygirl oh and I'm also 25 weeks and feel like we are at a point of making final big decisions and getting stuff sorted which isn't helping. I.e. we are about to decide and order pram, start decorating nursery, wanting to get a driveway put in at home, deciding whether to get a new bigger car before or after baby arrives, the list goes on but my brain is a bit 🤯 at the moment

NSx · 17/07/2023 10:49

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween I don’t know if it’s because I’m in Scotland, but my midwife here is the one who does the fit to fly.
She has me booked in to see her the week I go away, as the fit2fly cert needs to be issued within a certain date of departure. I also don’t think they charge here either?

peonygirl · 17/07/2023 11:05

@Sagittarius25 oh yes, all the prep is also taking its toll. I was very lucky to have gathered more or less all the gear needed for the baby already. I am buying second hand so sometimes need to coordinate how to get things (delivered or picked up) but did calculations yesterday and have bought pram/cot/changing mat/play mat/clothes/toiletries/sling - all for less than £300. I am super proud of myself :)

I do however have an issue with my current flat and am trying to move. It is stressing me so much and I feel there's a general discrimination against single pregnant women - I was asked by the agency last week how much my maternity will be and when my baby was due (before they confirmed I can even get a viewing!!). I guess stressing over the housing at 6 months pregnant is not a good thing for me nor the baby...didn't plan it this way, the flat I am currently in has issues that management won't fix but they are a health risk to me and the baby so I have to find something else.

LaVitesse2022 · 17/07/2023 19:46

@OrionNebula I had my 3d scan last week after also being reluctant and I can honestly say thank heavens my partner pushed for it! We got a few great pics of his face and I couldn't stop staring at it for the whole day 😍 It's a bit of a gamble as baby might be in an awkward position but in my experience sonographer will try to get baby to move for a chance of a good shot. Worth doing in my opinion!

OrionNebula · 17/07/2023 19:55

@LaVitesse2022 ah that's good to hear. Although knowing my luck she will be uncooperative, she will get kicking away and as soon as I get DH or DD to touch my belly to try and feel her, she stops dead still 😂

Chanteuse · 17/07/2023 20:03

@OrionNebula I’ve had a 3D scan and they are my fave pics of him! He’s so cute 🥰

OrionNebula · 17/07/2023 20:40

@Chanteuse that's lovely, glad I booked it now Smile

LWestYorks · 17/07/2023 20:41

Anyone been diagnosed with Polyhydramnios? (Too much amniotic fluid) I have today at 28 weeks bang on, just slightly worried. X

OrionNebula · 17/07/2023 22:01

Just had a massive nose bleed! Really freaked me out. Apparently they are another fun side effect of pregnancy. Anyone else had any?

peonygirl · 17/07/2023 22:57

@OrionNebula yes, me, but my nose bleeds are not so heavy, though they have been a constant for weeks now.

@Chanteuse oh that sounds so lovely, I am now tempted to book one myself too.

My baby is not kicking so much today and I just got really worried. I still feel him a bit but he was super active yesterday. Can they change the pattern so much? Oh the anxiety, a constant worry. I just hope I get to sleep better today, I feel if I am not rested I am more anxious as well.

Chanteuse · 18/07/2023 07:19

@OrionNebula I’ve had light nosebleeds weekly the whole time I’ve been pregnant! Normal apparently 🫠

@peonygirl I think they’re so worth it! Not sure how far along you are but if you’re worried about movement just go in they’ll be really kid about and and reassure you. I have an anterior placenta so sometimes he’s super quiet - actually he’s not but I can’t feel him as much.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 18/07/2023 07:56

@NSx I wish it were done by midwives here in England, it makes far more sense since they deal with your care throughout pregnancy! Apparently law changed recently that says GPS here have to be the one to do it, my midwife was not impressed, but I’m glad she told me so early - saying that one of my pals here was able to get one from her midwife so I don’t think it’s strictly enforced

Ss32 · 18/07/2023 07:58

@OrionNebula i had a few early nosebleeds this time but in my past pregnancy towards the end, I had some crazy ones. I was once stuck in the shower for about 45 minutes with a gushing nosebleed. I was home alone and didn’t want to get out and get blood on my new white towels 😂 apparently it’s just a pregnancy thing!

@peonygirl as PP says, give MAC a call and they can advise you for your gestation. I went a few times with my last pregnancy and they’re really lovely. They always say it’s better to be safe than sorry with reduced movements

OrionNebula · 18/07/2023 08:13

Pregnancy truly is the gift that keeps on giving! I never had one on my last pregnancy, don't think I've had one since I was a child and it was properly gushing, freaked me out! In with the consultant for 28 week check this morning so will mention it but I'm sure it's normal.

doeandfawn · 18/07/2023 13:22

Last day of our babymoon - I’ll be glad to be back in Scotland and out of the 35-40 degree humidity!! Worth letting you know if you’re visibly showing to get your fit to fly even if you’re before 27 weeks as airlines will ask for it if they can see you’re pregnant. Ours was free from midwife; might just be England that has to pay.

peonygirl · 18/07/2023 15:06

I had my midwife appointment and baby is fine, heard a very solid heartbeat. I am doing well too, she said I measure exactly where I should for 25 weeks so not being especially big is perfectly fine. No regular baby kicks before week 26 - so the fact I didn't feel him yesterday could just be he was being a bit lazy and not very active (babies have lazy days apparently :)).

@Chanteuse and @Ss32 thanks for your replies. I was thinking of giving them a call but it was past 11pm and I was sooo tired. I didn't want to be directed to the hospital and as I did feel the baby before (just not in the evening) I thought resting will help. My insomnia is also not helping so I feel anxiety creeping in when I am tired. I will try to get better work-life balance as at the moment it is a bit manic. Well - I am off for a short break on Thursday so that should help.

OrionNebula · 18/07/2023 15:15

@peonygirl delighted all is ok. I feel you, its so stressful when you can't feel them as much as normal.

Consultant gave me a bit of an accidental scare this morning when doing measurements, she said baby was a bit small and she needed to get another doctor for a second opinion. Then she said "oh wait, you're 28 weeks aren't you, I thought you were 32" 😂 So baby is perfect size apparently.
