Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@OrionNebula yes that's what I mean be aware of general patterns from 26-28 weeks, not count them. Think I will just need to learn to trust my instinct/gut.

But I already know what you mean about the relief when you feel them again after a quiet period!

cruciverbalista · 06/07/2023 13:37

@Sagittarius25 Yes you phrased that really well. I am finding the high stakes and responsibility of it to be pretty stressful too. 26+4 now and feeling a little more chilled out about it, but some days the movements are so much more frequent than others, but I think that has to do with baby's position and which direction he is kicking in. It's easy to overthink for sure!

Glad I'm not alone with the puking - I'm getting a scrip for omeprazole now which might help as my reflux has been really through the roof. And yes, I put on a song I liked as a teenager the other day and found myself completely wrecked sobbing!

PeopleAreToads · 06/07/2023 14:52

@WhatTodoALL my weight gain is similar, though I piled it on in the first trimester thanks to living off beige carbs

@OrionNebula former ED sufferer here too, which I think is why I'm concerned about balancing between over restricting myself, and using pregnancy to justify cake for breakfast! I think I'm doing okay at listening to when I'm hungry and trying eat healthily

OrionNebula · 06/07/2023 15:30

@PeopleAreToads it's tricky isn't it, it's a worry at the back of my mind how I will react psychologically if my body changes a lot after birth. I went back to how I was quite quickly after my first pregnancy but I know there are no guarantees it will be the same this time.

Smiffette · 06/07/2023 16:07

I always used to over worry with placenta being at the front and not feeling loads of movement.
But then I just though as long as I feel movements a couple of times a day I know baby is ok.

There was once in my last pregnancy when I went all day without feeling anything so rang triage and they advised eating something and then laying down on my side. Sure enough baby moved!

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 06/07/2023 16:16

There’s def specific times of day they like to move more than others-today is a quiet day for them, so I might have a fizzy drink and a lay down later to see if that helps!

LaVitesse2022 · 06/07/2023 17:44

Totally with you all on the movement thing being all a bit stress inducing. I haven't really worked out a pattern as some days baby moves more than others and I think that should be normal, as they'll be in different position, or just fancy more exercise some days 😄 But as others have said, as long as I feel baby here and there during the day I try not to worry much.

Now I'm feeling more as if baby is moving through rather than odd kicks, can't really explain, it's an odd sensation, like he's moving along the walls of the uterus? Might have a little swimmer in the making 😂

I'm so sorry to hear people are still being sick :/ I really hope you're getting some meds to help or at least some sort of relief otherwise.

Ss32 · 06/07/2023 17:55

I had my 28 week appointment today and bump is measuring between 30 and 31 weeks 😱 I’m only 4ft 10!

Saturnsmoon · 06/07/2023 20:40

@Ss32 I do think height has a lot to do with it. You will likely have a shorter torso so less room for the baby and organs to go so more likely to pop out. I haven’t been measured yet but I’m 5ft and definitely feeling on the large size for my 27 weeks.

VictoriaBlossom · 07/07/2023 06:55

Morning ladies. Has anyone got a really small bump? I've gained just under 2 stone/11.5kg but we can't really work out where it's gone apart from my bum.
I'm 24w now, and when I told someone I was pregnant they thought I was much earlier on, my pre pregnancy tops still all fit me. I feel nervous she might be a small baby?

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 07/07/2023 07:11

@VictoriaBlossom It might just be that she’s closer to your back, everyone carries differently! How was she measuring at your 20 week scan?

VictoriaBlossom · 07/07/2023 07:21

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween
Are you asking in gestation time or in mm measurements?
(I'm clueless)

GemmaJen · 07/07/2023 08:37

@VictoriaBlossom I'm the same, gained a stone+, but bump is smaller than expected, only measuring 17cm fundal at 23 weeks. My last baby was 100th percentile and I was huge at this point, so I'm well bellow the growth chart line they've given me. Baby measured 16.5th percentile at 20w. Midwife said not to worry, but it's hard! I'm hoping to raise it with my consultant next week. I would say though that baby is still lying across my lower stomach\pelvis so a wider bump I suppose rather than a high one? Could yours be doing the same?

kingfisher168 · 07/07/2023 08:39

I'm in a similar boat @VictoriaBlossom . In 27th week and all tops and leggings still fit. I think it's because my bump is the 'wide' type, so all organs pushed to the sides and up and the baby is lodged in between, perhaps a bit more towards the back. This makes it more of a large 'abdominal bulge' than a neat bump. You might be similar. I'm sure a midwife would bring it up at a check up if she was worried about a small baby.

Koalawhala · 07/07/2023 08:51

Mine isn’t that big either, I think it depends on build too. I have a long torso apparently and wide hips so think this hides baby a bit! I haven’t been measured yet though.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 07/07/2023 08:56

@VictoriaBlossom in terms of the percentiles - I’ve got a big bump but my baby was measured at consistently between 13th percentile and 30th percentile at my 20 week scan, so quite teenie! Comparatively my friend had a tiny bump and her baby was much bigger-I think it’s just about where your baby sits/how your body chooses to hold them. Try not to worry (I know that’s a Herculean task at the mo!), your midwife will soon send you for more investigation if they’re at all concerned!

PeopleAreToads · 07/07/2023 12:42

@VictoriaBlossom I saw a consultant at 23 weeks (for low PAPP-A) after a growth scan. My bump is huge but baby measuring on 20th centile. The consultantant told me it's too early to really use centile to try and predict birth weight and the way you carry can be down to body shape, so there's a huge range of normal. So try not to read too much into any of it!

LaVitesse2022 · 07/07/2023 18:43

I was reading my pregnancy notes and found the birth plan template. Was wondering, for those who've been pregnant before, did you discuss your birth plan/options with your midwife or are we supposed to think about these things on our own / in antenatal classes?

Smiffette · 07/07/2023 21:40

@LaVitesse2022 I did discuss it with my midwife, so it was a good opportunity to talk through preferences and what to expect.

Ss32 · 08/07/2023 06:33

@LaVitesse2022 from what I remember, we only went over it very briefly last time but I was quite casual with ‘what will be will be’. I feel like my midwife now would give me a lot more time to go through it if I asked. I did make a birth plan last time but never printed it out and none of it happened 😂🙈

ForeverAndEvers · 08/07/2023 07:10

@LaVitesse2022 similar to others, I vaguely remember going through briefly in one appointment but I was pregnant at the height of covid so most of my appointments were on the phone so think that made a difference to how detailed it was (and most of my questions were about hospital covid restrictions tbh!). If its something you'd like to discuss with a midwife, you absolutely should ask to if its not offered but I think also useful to do your own research.

LaVitesse2022 · 08/07/2023 08:49

@Smiffette @Ss32 @ForeverAndEvers thank you ladies, that's useful to know. I'll definitely do my own research but definitely would like a discussion with someone "in the system" at some point so will raise that with my midwife. I'd really like to visit the birth centre and labour ward in advance, just so I'm a bit familiar with the spaces before the big day, though the chances of that happening are probably very slim.

doeandfawn · 10/07/2023 09:27

Made it to viability day! Feeling properly pregnant now.

monsteramunch · 10/07/2023 09:35

Aah congrats @doeandfawn! Flowers

Made it to viability day! Feeling properly pregnant now.

Same here! I have a consultant meeting on Wednesday so looking forward to that too. I have a feeling I am finally getting to the last stage and I am actually showing being pregnant and not just bloated.

The baby is super active, he's kicking all the time. I just hope he's growing at the rate he should.
