Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

Thanks @Mldn will make sure we drop in to mamas&papas as well then to check out the Aer.

my colleague who got the yoyo said that what bothered her about it is that after baby stage you can’t lie it fully flat which was an issue when her kid fell asleep in it etc. So that’s put me off a bit but going to go in to the stores with an open mind.

PeopleAreToads · 30/06/2023 18:38

We've gone for bugaboo fox 5. We did an appointment with John Lewis and got 20% off of we ordered within 2 months, so got car seats at with the discount too. So if anyone hasn't ordered yet, worth having the appointment just for the discount

ForeverAndEvers · 30/06/2023 19:42

@Saturnsmoon we had the yoyo with my first and I have loved it but there are a couple of down sides, and not being able to go fully flat is definitely one. The wheels are small so it is also doesn't do that well on uneven groud/snow etc. The storage underneath is also quite limited.

Those points being said though it is fab. So light, easy to travel with (never had an airline question it once I say its a yoyo) and has taken us from birth to nearly 3 years old easily. Folds really easily and although I have nothing to compare it to, my son has seemed comfy in it.

Hope you enjoy testing them out and seeing what's right for you.

peonygirl · 30/06/2023 20:07

On the topic of buying stuff - I am more or less getting everything second hand and got a really lovely Mothercare travel system for £95 (incl. car seat). That said, folding is a bit of a fuss and I know I will have an issue with that. I thought I'll go with this for the starters and opt for something different when the baby is bigger. The pram can be used up to 3+ years though so if it works in the long run, even better. There's no way I can afford a pram for 1k, I had an IVF which I paid myself so spent thousands for that. Baby will have everything but not new - we'll survive.

I will also go with Snuggle bath because I will likely have a c-section so way easier to use than Angelcare.

So far I have been successful in getting a very good deals on side crib (Tutti bambini £50), a changing mat (£3), full set of clothes/sleeping bags from 0-6 months (£25) and brand new Babymoov (£8). I am currently looking for a new crib mattress and sheets which I find ridiculously expensive (set of two is £25 or more).

LaylaHL2023 · 30/06/2023 20:08

Went for the Icandy peach, had one with my son. Also on the look out for a mountain buggy but want a good 2nd hand one as its just for our walks as we live out in the sticks.

Got given the angel bath seat! Happy to say we have finished buying right down to indate just incase baby milk 🤣.
So much change going on at work I wanted to be prepared.

Hating my job at the moment.

Chanteuse · 30/06/2023 20:12

I’m going to ramp up on buying stuff once baby’s nursery is finished, so I can see what I need when it’s all put away 🥰

Onethingiwantfor23 · 30/06/2023 20:16

I'm going for the city jogger gt2 with the carrycot. https://www.johnlewis.com/baby-jogger-city-mini-gt2-pushchair/opulent-black/p5680621

I look after children and have always had the city joggers - they are such a comfortable push, can fold with one hand and are great for all terrain.
I actually managed to get the brand new carrycot off of Marketplace for an absolute bargain.
Will be going to John Lewis to try this particular one out before I buy it. Does anyone know if they offer 20% off at every appointment booked?
I've found a car seat that I want but need to check it's compatible with this.

It's all getting a bit real now isn't it! I'll be 24 weeks on Monday.

I bought this video monitor and movement mat at Tesco - it was £199 down to £69 with Clubcard. https://www.hotukdeals.com/share-deal/4152121?utmsource=whatsapp&utmmmedium=referral&utmcontent=4152121

Can anyone advise the best next to me crib/cot?

NSx · 01/07/2023 08:08

@PeopleAreToads does John Lewis offer a discount on the egg? If you have an appt?

WhatTodoALL · 01/07/2023 08:44

We bought an Occarro yesterday on facebook market for 170£ and we are quite happy with it! I had all terrain buggy with my first 2 kids and it worked really well for us. We also have Yoyo from my sister and plan to keep it in the car, mainly for travelling. Ocarro's bassinet was certified for the unsupervised sleep and I think we will use it a cot downstairs for the first 3 months

LaVitesse2022 · 01/07/2023 08:53

@peonygirl wow those are absolute bargains! I tried to find the Aer in second hand but there doesn't seem to be much on Vinted or ebay. I think it's less popular in the UK than other brands. But I've been getting loads of cute and good quality babygrows, pramsuits and hats off Vinted for a pound or two so most of baby's clothes will be second hand. Will get the schnuggle from my local charity shop. And looking on ebay for the baby carrier, which I think I've settled on Ergobaby Embrace.

LaVitesse2022 · 01/07/2023 08:58

@Onethingiwantfor23 I'm getting the Joie Roomie Glide. It's smaller than most which for our small flat was a priority, but has got all the functionalities like tilt for reflux, attaches to bed, one side rolls all the way down with just one hand, etc. Also very important for us is that it has wheels so we can use it in the living room too and so that I can move it out of the way to open my wardrobe 😂 Can fold it to use as travel cot, although not sure if we'll use it for that. And it's prettier than the Chicco Next to Me, whose design I really dislike. I love the wooden ones like the snuzpod but they're too bulky and heavy for our space.

Koalawhala · 01/07/2023 11:32

@Onethingiwantfor23 We had the Chicco next to me last time which I found good. It just stayed next to the bed for us so I didn’t move it around at all. Can see that wheels could be an advantage though! @LaVitesse2022

For our first we had the snuzpod and found it very narrow, and noisy when baby’s hands rubbed along the sides. They may have changed the design though, that was a while ago

I also loved the Nuna Sena travel cot with the baby insert so baby sits higher in the cot

NSx · 01/07/2023 11:35

@LaVitesse2022 I have a chicco next to me magic 2 and it looks exactly the same as the Joie. So I think it just comes down to personal preference, how you will use it and budget tbh, but I think they all do the same job.

NSx · 01/07/2023 11:41

@Koalawhala like you, my next to me will be staying next to the bed, but I’m sure mine does have wheels, I need to check.

whats your thoughts on a Moses basket for daytime sleeping in the livingroom etc?

Summer022 · 01/07/2023 11:42

We’re very limited on space so have gone for the snuzpod, I’m just not sure what to have downstairs for baby to sleep in. We’re really limited for space as we have a tiny house so I thought possibly a Moses basket might be too bulky but not sure what alternative to use

NSx · 01/07/2023 11:49

@Summer022 my niece spends a lot of time sleeping in this, and it has different positions. My sister in law swears by it, she didn’t get a Moses basket. Tiny love 3 in 1 I’m thinking of getting one, they aren’t huge either. Might be good for space …

https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/baby/bouncers-swings-and-rockers/baby-bouncers/tiny-love-3-in-1-baby-rocker-napper/p/184232

LaVitesse2022 · 01/07/2023 13:46

@Koalawhala @NSx yeah, definetly comes down to personal preference as they're all very similar in function.

@Summer022 I'm thinking of using the carrycot for daytime sleeps in the first few weeks. Don't want to have 3 different sleeping things in our small flat that will only serve for the first few months

PeopleAreToads · 01/07/2023 14:29

@NSx it was virtually everything baby related that the discount was on, if you book the appointment online theres terms and conditions that tell you what the few things are it excludes

kingfisher168 · 01/07/2023 16:21

I'm with @LaVitesse2022 on this, was also going to get a Moses basket for downstairs but then thought why not just use the carrycot if it's approved to sleep in long term. Might get a Moses basket stand to stand it on it so that it's not on the floor. Can always buy a Moses basket later if this solution doesn't work.

monsteramunch · 01/07/2023 17:03

We're (finally!) moving to a house, from our flat, and I've just thought I should probably factor in the stairs when planning the week or so immediately after my c section.

For any of you who have had a section previously, would going up and down stairs have felt too much for the first few days / week? Just imagining climbing them while holding little one is making me feel panicky!

Perhaps we should make me a little comfy corner downstairs to sleep in as and when (and if) baby allows...

NSx · 01/07/2023 17:30

@PeopleAreToads ahh I just saw the small print, egg and oyster are excluded 😂💔 oh well.

ES1986 · 01/07/2023 20:19

Is anyone else SO UNCOMFORTABLE? I’ve waiting so long for this pregnancy, so I feel guilty moaning, but I feel massive and my stomach is bloated and feels over-stretched and everything is knackering.

I’ve still got four months to go, I don’t know how women do this 😖

Sagittarius25 · 01/07/2023 20:39

@ES1986 not so much uncomfortable but I keep telling DH I'm sick of sounding like a broken record saying I'm tired or knackered every single day 😂😫

SillyOldBear3 · 01/07/2023 20:40

@kingfisher168 we went with the Nuna Mixx Next too! Ours is in Hazelwood colour which I think is similar to birch - it's lovely! Also came with the 360 car seat which we wanted.

@VanillaOat just in case this helps, I was between Ocarro and Nuna Mixx Next. Also rural so wanted something decent on rougher terrain. Both are lovely prams but I went with the Nuna as the carry cot can be used for occasional overnight sleeping (we plan to use it as a moses basket in the day also). I also like that the Nuna has summer ventilation netting in the cot and stroller.

Onethingiwantfor23 · 01/07/2023 20:49

I've read on the John Lewis website that the 20% off is if you book an appointment and then spend over £2k - am I reading that correctly? I was under the impression from other comments on here that the 20% off was for booking the appointment.
Thanks
☺️
