Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@Smiffette i might be wrong but I think that’s only if you have an active infection whilst you’re in labour?

doeandfawn · 28/06/2023 12:37

@Smiffette I’ve had numerous with this pregnancy and midwife is still more than happy for me to have an unmedicated water birth if I want so I’m not sure why yours has said that.

Smiffette · 28/06/2023 12:47

@doeandfawn @Chanteuse
Thank you that's reassuring!

I don't think I've had one but they were testing me and said I would hear in 3 days, which has now passed

Itsokaymama · 28/06/2023 18:00

@Smiffette that sounds more like group B strep, i had it in my last pregnancy and thats the exact steps they had to take with me. They said they will do the same this time round as well as it can become active again at any time and has no symptoms

Smiffette · 28/06/2023 18:35

@Itsokaymama ah I see ok!

Saturnsmoon · 28/06/2023 21:04

Is anybody still suffering from insomnia? It was probably my worst symptom in first trimester and then things seemed to get a bit better but I’m almost 26w and it has been relentless this week. I fall asleep very quickly around 10 but then wake up at odd times and can’t get back to sleep. Usually it’s around 4.30 which is bad enough but today it’s 1.30 and I’m just getting so frustrated and exhausted by it. Anybody have any tips on things that work for you?

Midnight00 · 28/06/2023 21:43

@Saturnsmoon 1:30am, you poor thing. I'm regularly walking around 4/5 then dozing till I get up at 5:45am. Not fun especially when I used to sleep straight through.

Not many useful tips I'm afraid but I do use the sleepcasts and sleep relaxation meditations on Headspace. If anyone's a teacher like me you can get a free subscription though it's a bit of a pain to set-up.

PrimarilyParented · 28/06/2023 22:03

@Saturnsmoon i have this 4:30 wake zone too. It’s usually because I need the toilet and then am awake and baby is too and starts kicking loads. I fall asleep to podcasts so often stick one of them on to help me doze back off, or at least be entertained if I don’t manage to.

Gratefulsmile · 29/06/2023 01:59

Hi ladies,
have we got a fb group for October 2023 babies?

Saturnsmoon · 29/06/2023 02:55

@Midnight00 @PrimarilyParented thank you, at least I feel slightly less alone in it although sorry to hear you are struggling with sleep too. You have also reminded me that I have a headspace account through work so will revisit their sleepcasts which I used to really like.

Koalawhala · 29/06/2023 10:46

@Saturnsmoon my sleep patterns have changed ages this week too (22 weeks). I keep waking up at 4.30-5am and not able to get back to sleep. Generally feeling more restless in bed and the very light mornings aren’t helping! Hoping it’s just a phase for everyone

Chanteuse · 29/06/2023 11:49

@Gratefulsmile yes it’s here. There’s also a WhatsApp you can join from the Fb group.

doeandfawn · 29/06/2023 12:25

@Chanteuse oh that’s different to the ones that have been shared before!

VanillaOat · 29/06/2023 14:02

Hey ladies hope you are all well!! I’ve not posted for a couple of weeks but pleased to confirm that I managed to make it on holiday and back with only one minor anxiety attack on the plane 😂

Almost 26 weeks now and had one of those 4d scans yesterday, which was well worth doing! Always found them a bit creepy tbh but it was actually really amazing to see a few of her features in such detail and of course was nice to get a bit of reassurance after it being so long since the 20 week scan.

I’m so much more rested after a break away but also feel like reality has now sunk in and I need to start buying things for my little girl!

I’m sure we’ve probably discussed before but what’s everyone’s thoughts on their prams? I am clueless… ideally I want something that’s good for all terrains, as we are big into walking. My mum is treating us and is happy to pay for a decent one, as we will hopefully keep it for future babies. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Saturnsmoon · 29/06/2023 14:23

@VanillaOat glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday and the flights weren’t too traumatic.

we’re away for the next two weeks but also plan to start buying stuff once we get back. Literally have nothing at the moment (not even a babygrow)!

I think I’ve narrowed it down on prams between the bugaboo bee 6, the bugaboo dragonfly, the baby zen yo-yo and the Joolz aer, however we are in a city and live a very urban lift style so weight and size are more important to us than all terrain so these probably wouldn’t work for your requirements.

Chanteuse · 29/06/2023 14:45

Oh really @doeandfawn ? Maybe there’s two?! 😂

katherine123x · 29/06/2023 17:55

@VanillaOat mamas and papas ocarro here!! Country living need something fairly robust!

monsteramunch · 29/06/2023 17:58

If anyone can recommend an everyday, reliable but relatively lightweight pram system then I would be ever so grateful!

We haven't bought anything yet as we aren't moving for another month so no space. Really excited to start getting some bits together Smile

LaVitesse2022 · 29/06/2023 19:01

@VanillaOat @monsteramunch @Saturnsmoon I've been doing lots of research lately on prams and finally decided on the Joolz Aer. We live in a small flat in London and don't own a car so needs to be good on public transport and compact. But there's plenty of parks and the Thames path near us so it has to be able to handle rougher terrain fairly well.

So red lines were:

  • lighweight & compact
  • reasonably good in most terrains
  • affordable (as in, definitely not in the £1k mark)

Joolz Aer is by far the one that fits the bill. It's incredibly lightweight and easy to fold even with the carrycot attached (something none of the others do) and handles rougher terrains surprinsgly well for a compact pram (from what reviewers said). Lots of good reviews and comments on quality and durability. The Aer model comes under £500 with the carrycot so that sounds perfect for us. Also can attach a travel car seat for when we visit grandparents abroad, and perfect to take on planes too :)

LaVitesse2022 · 29/06/2023 19:05

We've also decided on the cot, we're going to get one of those bedside cribs as again small flat (set on the Joie Roomie Glider). Funnily enough, it's the baby bath that's doing my head in as I can't decide what's best 😅

Summer022 · 29/06/2023 20:25

We’re looking at a bugaboo dragonfly but can’t seem to find it in stock anywhere 😆 we live semi rural so may need something more robust but our house is so tiny we need something super lightweight and compact. I may look at the Joolz Aer though as the reviews are really good!

NSx · 29/06/2023 20:45

I think I’ve already mentioned, it’s the Egg2 for me 🤎

Smiffette · 29/06/2023 21:04

As much as I would LOVE to buy a new travel system, there's nothing wrong with the Ickle Bubba Stomp 3 that we had for my DD so I'm just going to make sure I give it all a really good clean before the. Use that.
Once he has grown out of the carry cot and car seat element, I'll buy a new pushchair as I'll know we will use that for another couple of years.

Koalawhala · 29/06/2023 21:43

@LaVitesse2022 the Angelcare bath support is great. Sits in the bath and supports baby while you wash. Also great for bathtime with a sibling. We found that with the baths that you fill the baby slips all over the place 😂

doeandfawn · 29/06/2023 21:44

We live in a suburban area and do a lot of country walking plus urban walking so needed a system that would do both. Hubby drives and I don’t so functionality mattered more than it being lightweight for us. We went for the Uppababy Vista and have loved taking cats around the house in it so far hahaha.
