@Clucket87 100%! I still have moments of wtf have we done despite baby being very planned and wanted.

It’s at half one, I’ll be counting down the hours!

RG84 · 19/06/2023 12:02

Good luck with your scans tomorrow, stay positive. It's always stressful at each scan you go too but it will be fine. Google is scary during pregnancy. you'll be okay.

Has anyone had there 16 week midwife appointment yet? Might be too early for most of us. Mine is booked in for the 3rd July and i'm wondering whether they listen to baby's heart that day as well?

Clucket87 · 19/06/2023 12:14

@Mushroo somewhere in the depths of mumsnet is me putting something on in July 20 asking wtf had I done.
Like you, very much wanted and never doubted but the idea of my life changing was scary!
Ooohhh. That's a nice time. Mines at 2pm on Wednesday so I will be thinking of you.
@RG84 I don't think I had mine listened to until I was 24 weeks last time, but it was a couple of years ago now, and I know somebody in Cambridge who asked and they did do it and heard it nice and clear at 16 weeks. Xx

RG84 · 19/06/2023 12:22

@Clucket87 I also can't remember my 16 week appointment in 2020. I guess it's just having the reassurance again as having to wait until the 20 scan seems like ages away. I will ask if they can on my appointment x

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/06/2023 13:10

The midwife listened for babies heart beat with my previous two babies in 2016 and 2018 in two different areas so I think it is common. Thet do say its still early so dont panic if they cant or if it takes a while but they found it super quickly in my orevious pregnancies. My midwife appointment is this Thursday when I'll be 17 weeks and I'm assuming they will.

Hey everyone! Joining this thread as I’m due December 5th.

I have an appointment with a consultant at 16 weeks next week and I’m nervous. I want an elcs after I was told when I was 19 I had 3 extra vertebrae on my tail bone which would make a natural birth very difficult and I’d most likely require assistance or a section.

Im just scared of push back but I guess I’ll have to wait and see and not back down!

RG84 · 19/06/2023 15:16

Do you have to have a valid reason for a section and NHS approve or deny? I had a section but that was in South Africa and due pre-eclampsia etc.
I would prefer to have a section 2nd time around so I hope the NHS don't deny.

FirstMondayInMay · 19/06/2023 15:29

@RG84 I'm sure it’s in the NICE guidelines that you have the right to decide how to labour/give birth, so if a consultant is refusing to give you a C section then you can ask to be referred to one that will

ThomasinaLivesHere · 19/06/2023 15:30

@RG84 You don’t need a medical reason to request one although some people do have issues but I think people are more likely to post about issues than those who have everything easy so reading some threads on MN can give you the impression that it’s difficult to get.

I brought up having a section at my first appointment and the midwife was very accommodating. I had come prepared with all my reasons but she never asked me to justify why just said what would happen and when I’d be contacted by a consultant.

Pbubz · 19/06/2023 15:30

@RG84 when I was 19 (long time ago now!) an X-ray revealed I have 3 extra pieces of vertebrae on my tail bone which essentially block part of the birth canal, they advised me at the time if I had children I would need a C-section. I was living in Germany at the time so this info isn’t on my record here in the UK. I could still try a natural birth but would rather avoid am emergency C-section if there’s a high risk for it. Really hoping the consultant understands this, it’s not because I’m afraid of contractions, Labour or birth (no more than the next person anyway!)

ThomasinaLivesHere · 19/06/2023 15:41

I had my 12 week scan today! And everything is looking well 😀. My private scan had put the due date at 27th December but now the official date is 29th December which I think is potentially better for c section. I would prefer after Christmas but don’t know if a day or two before due date (27-28th) would be approved or if I will still need to have it before Christmas.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 19/06/2023 15:42

Best of luck to those with scans coming up!

RG84 · 19/06/2023 16:22

Thanks ladies regarding the advice on c-sections. I have a midwife appointment on the 3rd July so I will mention it again then as well.

glad your scan went well today :) although 2 days wouldn't be enough I don't think, they'd probably say a week before or just over I would imagine. I was induced 9 days before my due date.

DaisyMay25 · 19/06/2023 16:54

@RG84 @Pbubz you can request a section, you have to get two doctors opinions and hear the risks but they can't deny you

Charlielechat · 19/06/2023 18:30

@Mushroo I did the same with my scan photos from Friday (after saying I wasn't going to stress anymore!). I googled why I couldn't see a nose on the scan and of course Google told me it's a sign of down syndrome, but I since discovered the baby was actually laying with its back to us and the sonographer just didn't try get him/her to move! I also worried about neck fluid, but it just looks to be the because of the angle he/she is laying in. The sonographer didn't tell us anything about the baby or scan other than there being a heartbeat. So that really didn't help! I think when we've heard so many bad stories it's only natural that we're going to worry and analyse everything! Here's to worrying for the rest of our lives 😂

Mushroo · 19/06/2023 18:34

@Charlielechat glad it’s not just me doing this. I wish I was a chill person, i over analyse everything!

Mine scan definitely has a nasal bone, to the point DH was laughing the baby has inherited my huge nose, so I have that positive for now haha.

Cant wait for scan tomorrow and NIPT results to come back!

Charlielechat · 19/06/2023 18:35

@Mushroo I have the same problem so was wondering whose nose they would have! 😂

Best of luck tomorrow! I'm sure all will be fine! I've booked my Quad test now too but it's not until 16 weeks

Charlielechat · 19/06/2023 18:44

Congrats on your scan @ThomasinaLivesHere ! My due date is 27th based on period but I keep measuring at 29th December! We're very similar!

GlitterDragon · 19/06/2023 23:30

I have my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow, and not sure what to expect as it’s my first pregnancy.

Due date is 4th December. Ive had a lot of back pain today, but been really active in the garden moving plant pots so might need to slow down a bit. Also just cannot get comfortable with coccyx pain, and some odd sensation in my uterus of a sort of pulsating / stretching feeling.. from reading up, might be pelvic girdle pain or round ligament pain?

99SR · 20/06/2023 07:26

@GlitterDragon i have these pains every day ☹️ I work in a nursery so can only put it down to that! Fine in the morning then by night I’m in pain. Trying to take it easy but it’s difficult xx

bookbathnap · 20/06/2023 07:46

I had my 16 week appointment a few days ago and she listened to the heartbeat. It was a lovely surprise as I didn’t even know that was a thing! Hopefully you get to hear your little ones heartbeat soon. I videoed it too.

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/06/2023 08:10

Those with pelvic girdle pain I advise you let your midwife know. I had it last pregnancy and it became awful spd and I could barely walk by the time I gave birth (so much relief when my waters went though). I spoke to my midwife about the chances of getting it again at my booking appointment and she said to let her know as soon as it starts so I can get in with the physio- she said it can take a while so to get the referral in as soon as it starts

autumn94xxxx · 20/06/2023 10:23

Hello everyone hope its ok to join this thread :) My due date is 6th December and this will be baby no.4 for me. 12 week scan was fine but the combined screening showed a low Papp A hormone level so have been put on aspirin daily.

Also did a private gender scan on the weekend (was only 15+3 but gender showed very clearly) and glad to say I will be having my 4th boy…lucky me!

16 week midwife appointment is tomorrow and hoping to understand more about my combined screening result.

Best of luck with all your upcoming scans/ appts! x

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/06/2023 10:34
