@Itonlytakesaminute you can tell people whenever you like, but most people wait until after the 12 week scan, which I think can be done between 11 and 14 weeks. As soon as you've had a scan and seen the baby, it's safe to tell people.

I think people hold off until the 12 week scan due to the rate of miscarriage in the first trimester, although if you've had an earlier scan and all was OK, the rate of miscarriage is drastically reduced.

Telling people after your private scan at 11 weeks will be absolutely fine, you don't have to wait until exactly 12 weeks!

Justanothercyster · 08/05/2023 09:03

@Mushroo what's the lazy river phase? I want one! Yeah that's why I did 8 weeks lol, too impatient.

@Itonlytakesaminute I have pcos so constantly have cysts, they're nothing to worry about and come and go. Bloody painful when they burst every now and then

Mushroo · 08/05/2023 09:15

@Justanothercyster haha I just meant a smooth sailing phase after the rollercoaster of the early days. It was just a bad joke 😂

HannahLouD · 08/05/2023 09:59

I told family over the weekend. I'm 9+3 and had a scan at 8+5 and all looked fine.
The midwife said statistically after seeing a heartbeat at 8+ weeks, you have about a 98% chance of pregnancy continuing to a live birth.
I originally thought I was being a bit silly telling people so early, but I'm crazily already starting to show and we had the scan picture so thought, why not!
My NHS scan isn't until 13+3 either, so didn't want to wait that long 🙈x

Itonlytakesaminute · 08/05/2023 10:49

Thanks all, think I just have it in my brain something could go wrong at all times but rationally know telling people a few days earlier isn't an issue!

99SR · 08/05/2023 11:50

its such a weird thing the 12 week wait isn’t it? I’ve only told my work and one of my friends! I’m 8 weeks today but I do plan on telling some family & friends before 12 weeks. I’m going to book another scan for 10 weeks I think!

wannabemum38 · 08/05/2023 11:54

My sickness is getting wild. Twice this week during the night I've puked up all my food and then for rest of week during the night I've just been sick but it's just water really. Always around 3 in morning though. Nausea all day long though is this normal im 9+2 today

Justanothercyster · 08/05/2023 12:20

@Mushroo ahh ok haha, I never had one last time 🙄

@wannabemum38 I feel your pain, it's really horrible isn't it. The anti sickness doesn't even seem to be working for me today

Wineisgreat · 08/05/2023 12:22

The way I see it is that if something happens then it'll happen regardless. It's going to be awful regardless, why put yourself through a worse experience now for something that could potentially happen but may not at all.

Wineisgreat · 08/05/2023 12:23

Obviously everyone is different though. 🙈

wannabemum38 · 08/05/2023 12:28

@HannahLouD how you feeling now anxiety wise any better? Other day you were feeling very anxious.

OnNaturesCourse · 08/05/2023 15:48

Needing a hand hold today.

After a really good day yesterday with nausea controlled reasonably with anti sickness and omperzole... Today its doubled up its efforts 😭

I have a horrid taste in my mouth that I can't shift and its playing on my gag reflex. I've been nauseated since I dared to eat this morning and I have so little energy that brushing my hair knackered me. I've barely moved off the sofa. Kids are still in their PJs and I've done nothing but throw snacks at them.

I feel terrible.

Lottie3665 · 08/05/2023 16:13

Sorry you feel that bad @OnNaturesCourse . Don't feel guilty though, you need to do what gets you through. I know what you mean about the horrible taste - can anyone go and get you some mints? I've found Smints have really helped (temporarily) take it away. Also water with some lemon juice in helps too. Hope it passes soon

Justanothercyster · 08/05/2023 16:27

Scan was all good, I was 2 days out but due 21st Dec (7+4 apparently). I won't post a pic as it might trigger people, but looks good.

wannabemum38 · 08/05/2023 16:53

@Justanothercyster congratulations great news
@OnNaturesCourse I feel you having the worst day today struggling to keep anything down been in bed all day. Got my midwife appointment tomorrow hope I feel better for that

Charlielechat · 08/05/2023 17:40

That's great @Justanothercyster ! Such a relief I'm sure!

Mummy1502 · 08/05/2023 18:03

My symptoms seem to have disappeared? X

Mummy1502 · 08/05/2023 18:05

Plus I’m spotting, am starting to worry now x

Mushroo · 08/05/2023 18:08

@Mummy1502 Im sorry to hear that. How many weeks are you?

If it helps I had spotting week 4, then a tiny amount a couple of days ago (5w+6) (just there randomly one wipe) which stopped and all fine since. From excessive googling a small amount of spotting is ok.

Mummy1502 · 08/05/2023 18:10

@Mushroo I’m 7+2 x

Mummy1502 · 08/05/2023 18:11

@Mushroo it is small but I can’t help but think I have mild af like cramps too x

Mummy1502 · 08/05/2023 18:13

@Mushroo i havnt needed my anti sickness the last 2 days and that’s when the spotting started x

Mushroo · 08/05/2023 18:13

@Mummy1502 it could just be one of those things, but could you see EPU tomorrow? I know at mine once you’re over 7 weeks they will scan you to check everything is ok x

Charlielechat · 08/05/2023 18:55

I'm sure it's nothing @Mummy1502 but I would definitely ring EPU for peace of mind x

Pitstop1986 · 08/05/2023 20:58

I agree with the others @Mummy1502 Call EPU and hopefully they'll get you in for a scan and put your mind at ease. I hope that you're OK x
