Hey everyone!
Congratulations on those having had successful scans. It’s a big relief!
I saw some of you are looking to have another scan before the 20 week one.
I’m nearly 16 weeks and starting to get anxious and would like a reassurance scan soon, it feels like too long to wait until 20 weeks. I thought I would be alright with just seeing the midwife and listening to the heartbeat next week but now it doesn’t feel like enough.
I wonder if women were this anxious 30- 40 years ago or if it’s just todays society?
My friends live in Scandinavia and they only have one scan at 18 weeks, the medical body doesn’t recommend more scans. There is also not a big market for private scans. My friends haven’t been worried or anxious at all in the same way I am. Maybe all these options we have are making us more anxious?!
I’ll try and not go for a scan but we will see how that goes..

I am very anxious in this pregnancy atm and this is my 3rd and I shouldn't be . But I really am , it doesn't help it's only 2 scans one at 12 weeks & one at 20 weeks it doesn't give anyone reassurance in anyway , have you felt any movements yet or starting to show in anyway hope your ok xx

Mldn · 18/05/2023 09:39

@Travellingislife how are you doing? I’m with you, debating a private scan in the coming days. 16 weeks today & my 16 week appt is next Thursday. 20 week scan 15 June. I’ve started to show now, only this week really, I had a hard little bump now, which has helped my anxiety but still want a scan!! Gonna try & hold off. I defo think we are more anxious nowadays due to the information we have so easily accessible & also the ease of getting a relatively cheap private scan!

Mldn · 18/05/2023 09:43

This was me in the airport yesterday morning. Feel so much better having a bump that isn’t just bloat/bread! This literally
came over night this week x

Travellingislife · 18/05/2023 09:51

@LeeanneD11 It’s my second one and I’m also more anxious this time around! I’m doing breathing exercises and meditation and it helps a little, have you tried that? I’ve not felt any movement and I don’t think I will for weeks as I’ve got an anterior placenta and I think I didn’t feel movement until 23-24 weeks with my son. I still feel pregnant but I’m not nauseous and exhausted anymore thankfully. My fitness tracker stats are what makes me believe I’m still pregnant 😅 high heart rate and low heart rate variability. I don’t have a bump, I just look like I’ve eaten too much-which I have 🙄

Travellingislife · 18/05/2023 09:56

@Mldn love the bump!
I just look “ thicker”, if you don’t know me you wouldn’t know I’m pregnant but I suspect my fitness pals knows 😅 I just eat unusual ( for me) food now, before for example I wouldn’t snack in the evenings but now that’s all I do, not healthy stuff either.
I get moments of anxiety but then I’m usually fine after a while and I feel like I don’t need a scan!

@Travellingislife you look great!! I looked very much like you up until the weekend & then this week I woke up one morning & burst into tears cos I felt my tummy had hardened & a I had a “real” bump. The relief! My tummy has always been flat, so I hated the bloat so badly!! Defo not helped by my new unhealthier diet either! My fitness is still outrageous in comparison - I keep getting notifications telling my how my stats have changed.. resting HR still much higher & running pace about 2 mins slower per mile! I tried running whilst on holiday. Woah. Stupid choice 😅 Hoping now I’m back from hol & in the second trimester I start to feel more energy… and can pick up on the healthy eating & exercise again x

No but I will give it a go , I was same in my last pregnancy didn't feel movements until later on due to the placenta I'm hoping it's not the same this time round lol 😂, you look great I just look bloated lol 😂

@Mldn love the bump it's so petite .

❤️❤️

TAW2502 · 18/05/2023 10:23

Hi lovely ladies!

We had our 12 week scan on Monday (actually 12+6) and all looked perfect ♡ such a relief! It was our 12 week scan last year when everything went wrong and we had devastating news later that week after bloods and emergency London visits/procedures of an Edwards diagnosis!!

Have held off getting too excited until we had our bloods back, luckily due to our previous experience, they rushed them through and have just called to confirm we are all okay!

Just thought I'd say, the lovely screening midwife said that they've recently changed the way they report these results and the 'best' they'll show now is 1 in 5000...I think before they may have gone into the tens of thousands but it left people worrying then if they had a much lower number! Hope that gives people some reassurance!

Bookworm12345 · 18/05/2023 12:30

@Travellingislife I must admit the extra scans that some ladies are choosing having these days has surprised me a bit. My cousin recently paid for a scan at 10 weeks, which never even occured to me to be a possibility! When we had our first 16 years ago, that sort of tech was only available in the big cities and we lived nowhere near. Cost was also a lot more than now. I've only paid for an extra scan with our last and that was 7 years ago to ascertain the gender as it wasn't totally clear at my 20 week scan. I still worry, as I have with all of them but am satisfied with the two scans and standard midwife appts, unless of course there are any issue that need extra monitoring 🤗

MooseWL · 18/05/2023 12:42

@TAW2502 Oh that makes sense why mine were both exactly 1/5000 then I did think it was a bit odd that they were the same!
So happy for you that you got good news with your results!

Mldn · 18/05/2023 13:23

My edwards & patau were 1/20000, so it must depend on location/trust. It defo made me worry seeing my downs was “only” 1/3500 against other I saw on another forum which were 1/50000. Makes you think “why isn’t mine much higher”! But in reality both are still minuscule & low risk.

LeeanneD11 · 18/05/2023 14:13

Hello everyone

Scan went well. Baby was wriggling away which was good to see measuring at 12+4 xx

Sb86 · 18/05/2023 14:23

Awww that's fab news @LeeanneD11 it's amazing to see isn't it and such a relief!!

TAW2502 · 18/05/2023 14:24

@Mldn yeah I understand that! Everything is just a constant worry isn't it! If it helps to put your mind at ease a bit - when I was pregnant with an Edwards baby, my bloods came back 1/5 so I'm taking my 1/5000 this time and running!

Yay @LeeanneD11 that's amazing! ♡
