@Stillhoping1990 the first scan I got was for reassurance, the second one was offered due to some left side cramping which turned out to be a slightly swollen cyst on the ovary I ovulated form. The one I’m getting this on Wednesday is due to my family being in London, where I live at the weekend and I want to tell them then face to face, I’ll be 12 weeks next weekend when they’re here.

However, I have had some spotting this week and I contacted my EPU about it and they’ve also offered my a scan for reassurance on the same day as my private scan. I’m unsure what one to go to (obviously will cancel the other one) - I think the nhs one would be more thorough.

I haven’t read anything that says ultrasounds can harm the baby x

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 16/04/2023 09:46

@Stillhoping1990 I went for one this week at 7 + 3 and I'm looking to book at NIPT test but it also comes with a scan at around week 10.

Not had a date for NHS scan yet but booking appointment is next week so hoping to get one shortly after that x

MooseWL · 16/04/2023 09:51

Third thread already.😁
@MeganC104 I'm 11+2 today and my dating scan is on Friday too! I'm excited but nervous!

Stillhoping1990 · 16/04/2023 09:53

@Mldn i agree the NHS scan will be more thorough. I wasn’t overly impressed with my private scan.
@Tryingtoconceivenumber2 my booking appointment is tomorrow - will feel good to have some NHS contact and get things movings.

Mldn · 16/04/2023 09:57

@Travellingislife yeh I agree! My private was with window to the womb & it was just very matter of fact. I don’t know if they’d even tell you they thought something looked wrong etc, I feel like they just say “yes baby is there with a heartbeat” and that’s that. Which is obviously what you want to see/hear but I just think nhs care would be better! Although I feel guilty using nhs time when I have already booked & paid for my private scan x

Does anyone know when you are supposed to start gaining weight? I lost almost 3kg since the start of pregnancy (not helped by the fact that I'm already on the underweight side) since I'm struggling to eat with the nausea. I'm slowly eating a bit better now but the weight is not coming back on. When are you meant to start gaining pregnancy weight - I'm getting a bit worried :/ I'm 11+1

anna2101 · 16/04/2023 10:29

Also for those mentioning not so great private scans experiences - if you are in London, I went to Numi (they have two ldn locations) and they were so great - very friendly, answered all possible questions and provided way more info on how the baby is doing than I would have expected

Travellingislife · 16/04/2023 10:31

Morning,
Did anyone get bloods done at their booking in appointment? My midwife said that it’ll be done at my first scan but that’s not how it was done when I was pregnant with my son. Then you had blood tests done before 10 weeks! I also read at the NHS website that some tests should be done before 10 weeks.. I wonder if I should demand a bloodtest, I’m 11 weeks tomorrow though..

Mldn · 16/04/2023 10:34

@Travellingislife i had bloods at my booking in, about 6 vials, used for testing my blood type, hepatitis, HIV, thelassemia & unsure what else. They told me I also get bloods at 12 weeks for the combined test x

Travellingislife · 16/04/2023 10:37

@Mldn thats what I thought!! I’ll contact my midwife, I specifically asked her about it and she said she’d never heard of it done before 10 weeks.. I should’ve pushed as I thought it wasn’t right.

HayleyD93 · 16/04/2023 10:39

I have booked a private test for Friday afternoon at 8+2 or 3. After that I'm planning on telling my parents as my booking appointment is at their house on Tuesday. I also go on holiday a few days after so would like to go with a clear yes I am pregnant or no I'm not.
I've booked with babyscanuk and I'm not expecting great things from them but at £40 and the ability to see a heartbeat is all I'm requiring at the moment.
My symptoms are definitely coming and going but also feeling unwell at the same time.

Mldn · 16/04/2023 10:41

@Travellingislife how frustrating! All of this conflicting advice etc is so difficult to follow, no wonder we are all anxious.

I’d contact your midwife.. this may help (or not) but this is a page in the blue book of notes that my midwife gave me, showing what is expected at each appointment. Blood test are mention in the first one, ideally before 9+4.. mine was done 9+3 x

I asked the same as I'd lost similar, midwife wasn't bothered (then again at a size 12 I have more to lose!). They said with nausea and everything thats going on internally your body is expending more energy than usual and will hopefully get better later on. If you're no longer losing thats good!

MeganC104 · 16/04/2023 15:16

@MooseWL ah scan twins! Hope yours goes well. I'm so excited I hope the next few days go quickly

TAW2502 · 16/04/2023 15:41

@Travellingislife when I was pregnant last year (unfortunately had to terminate) my midwife gave me a form to take to my 12 week appointment so they could do all my bloods then - the usual booking in bloods and the screening bloods. This was because I have an extreme needle phobia but she said its quite common to do them all together at 12 weeks...
I'm hoping I can do the same again this time - I have the same midwife so should be able to :)

Thanks for the new thread!

Houseonthehills · 16/04/2023 15:59

Oh ladies…. 8+6 and I’m exhausted from the nausea and sickness. I barely keep one thing down a day. Throw up all my meals and might be lucky to keep a rich tea or piece of fruit down a day. Water wont stay down so trying out allllllllll the drinks…. Feeling very faint when out and about too. Have a hen party in 4 weeks and Hoping I’m well enough for it. It’s draining isn’t it

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 16/04/2023 16:01

@Houseonthehills hope you feel better soon. I am 8 weeks today and although I've not been physically sick I feel really sick most of the day. Trying to clean my house today and have to keep stopping for a rest x

TMI2000 · 16/04/2023 16:05

Just wanted to let everyone know I had a private scan at 8w+5 today, baby all good with a nice strong heartbeat and a little bit wriggly and actually measuring 8w6 days, so pleased! The anxiety of today was a lot so I’m absolutely chuffed ❤️ xxx

vix_85 · 16/04/2023 18:03

Congratulations @TMI2000

@Houseonthehills it really can be draining. I have that nauseous feeling all day, yet to be sick tho but there’s really nothing worse.
Have you tried ginger tea or ginger ale yet?! They seem to settle my tummy when I’m feeling a bit off, also ginger biscuits and peppermint sweets seem to be working a bit for me.
Hope it passes really soon for you!

Travellingislife · 16/04/2023 18:21

@TAW2502 ah thank you! That makes me feel less worried! I’m sure it’s fine as I had those tests with my son and nothing should’ve changed as far as I’m aware.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 16/04/2023 18:57

Thanks for the new thread!

Has anyone else not heard about their booking appointment yet? I put my form in at the doctors 4 weeks ago and now I’m about 9+3. I have a feeling it has been lost … the hospital I have picked don’t offer self referral, it has to be done via a form at your GP.

I rang the GP on Thursday to chase it up and was told I won’t hear until 14 weeks, when I said how do I get my 12 week scan the receptionist didn’t seem to understand what I was saying and tried to tell me I will have less appointments this time with it being my 2nd … even though this is my 3rd and I had definitely already had my booking appointment with my 15 month old by this time.

I also tried to ring the community midwife number which I got off the hospital’s social media page, but it was either engaged or just rang out.

Not really sure when/how to chase it up again, but I won’t get a 12 week scan appointment if I haven’t even booked in with the hospital.

Psqueak87 · 16/04/2023 19:24

@Katiec1 yes nausea is bloody awful, I’m averse to all foods. Was just nauseous with no actually throwing up from week 6-10. And since week 10 I’ve been throwing up daily. Used a load of sick days at work already so hoping it subsides.

@anna2101 not sure when we start gaining weight, I just can’t wait to enjoy food again. I’ve lost 2.7kg, but that’s all been in the last week. Not gradual at all. I wasn’t underweight to begin with, but certainly not overweight either. I’ve read you should contact a dr if you lose between 5-10% of your overall body weight. Good luck ❤️

38andtrying · 16/04/2023 19:25

10 weeks tomorrow and my nausea seems to be easing, hope it doesn't mean anything wrong, had scan on Friday and all was OK with baby a. I'm eating better so hoping it's to do with that, it's a constant worry everything, happy that at scan at 9w+4 everything looked fine but still very worried something will go wrong. @TMI2000 congratulations on a great scan, it really makes you relax, hope you can enjoy now until next one x
