@Rowanandremy i was wondering if you were still swimming! I’m going to take my toddler swimming this week and even wondered if I could still manage that with all the crouching down in the toddler pool 🙈

My son had hiccups so much before he was born, I’m guessing it was most of the third trimester but this time I haven’t felt them once yet! He had them a lot after he was born too, used to always feel so bad for him ☹️

Paintandpots · 14/06/2023 23:28

@EsmeSusanOgg yes, some positions like lying down and trying to go to sleep. Lol. Baby boy is usually all mummy time for me to play and you to talk with me now.

@Marmaladebear sounds exciting, is he going to whats app call you and show you each house he looks at? I've also noted down the fan recommendation for next year.

@HRSC also happy everything with baby is OK. I think somtimes baby boy kicks or moves less frequently during daytime then others but not worryingly less. And either way at night time he is quite consistently awake then and moving around.

@MinnieFirstTimeMum i didn't want to read and run and I'm hoping somone more experianced can let you know about that. But have you spoken to midwife about it? Just give her a ring or send her a text maybe.

All i can say is if it is in your hips that your feeling the pain maybe put a pillow between your knees when you go to sleep?

Btw i feel like this heat is just sapping away at my energy and making me feel more sickly at points during the day. Making it a bit harder to breath to at times more than usual too when i walk into a very warm room.
Also need some inspiration, just got some rocket ice lollies from asda for us all to treat ourselves too, what other ice lollies would you recommend? Or what is your fav?

Marmaladebear · 15/06/2023 06:39

@Paintandpots he took some quick videos and WhatsApp called me! I think we are.going to make an offer on one of the houses. He really really wants me to view it first (think he feels the pressure!!) But I just don't have it in me for the journey - I'm barely making the walk home from the tube station these days!! On ice lollies my son really likes those rowntree ones. Tbh his favourite is just "red" if I call find a red one 😂

@Rowanandremy omg they must have increased their prices - sorry I didn't realise! In my head they were pricey but not as expensive as they are now 😳 Bought it during one of the heatwaves last year when the temperature was about 40 and we were ready to try anything

Rowanandremy · 15/06/2023 07:57

@BCxx I will be quite sad to give up swimming after today, I’ve been going since the pools reopened after lockdown but it’s not something I can keep up with anymore. I feel fantastic after the swim but later on that night I’ll be exhausted and the day after I have no energy left - I was thinking I’d have to stop at 34 weeks anyway and I’m 33 weeks Sunday. Good luck with swimming with your toddler, I'm finding it difficult to crouch too but I'm sure you will both have a fab time.
Aww it was quite sweet when I realised what I was feeling but I don’t think he liked it at all, he was pushing out at the sides of me like he was trying to escape himself 😂 he had hiccups twice yesterday so 3 times in 2 days, I wonder if he’ll be prone to them when he’s born?

@Paintandpots im with you about the heat and difficulty breathing in a warm room, our bedroom got to 30.5 the last two nights and when I came upstairs I almost fainted because I couldn’t get enough air in. We bought some of those dog cool mat things, they don’t last ages but it’s enough for me to acclimatise a little bit better and gives the fans time to be effective.

@Marmaladebear That’s exciting about the potential house offer! Hope it all goes well for you 😁 Oh no worries about the fan recommendation, it looks like it’s worth the price and it’s something we will definitely remember for next year

unluckyinlife · 15/06/2023 10:37

@Marmaladebear good luck with your house offer!

I am 30 weeks tomorrow and since Sunday have had the most swollen feet, ankles and calves. Does anyone else have this?

I think its the heat. I feel fine otherwise, I walk for about 1.5hr a day to do the school runs while my husband has the car weekdays so I imagine that doesn't help.

It's just they are swollen when I wake up before walking on them so I have no idea whether to be concerned or not. I have no headaches, no vision changes and my face and hands are normal.

Narwhal88 · 15/06/2023 13:04

@unluckyinlife I have had swollen ankles/feet quite a bit the last week. Never had it before in my life. I had the midwife this morning so mentioned it. She said if I get a headache that won't go with paracetamol or vision changes then to call up as it could be pre eclampsia but if it was just some swelling it was probably the heat. My blood pressure was fine. She said to drink at least 3 litres, I've probably only been doing 2 litres so need to up it!

Yes I've got the most horrendous swollen ankles and I'm 31 weeks. Think the heat is making it worse but it's all day every day. My BP is fine so no concerns but I have to keep putting my feet up all the time which is often hard working on a busy hospital ward.

LS888 · 15/06/2023 16:14

I’m the same with swollen feet! It’s so annoying but I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about for me. I also mentioned it to my midwife and she said to drink more water than usual and keep them raised as much as I can. Again my blood pressure has been fine too. I’ve bought a little foot mask/sock things for a pamper after NCT tonight just for a pamper!

BCxx · 15/06/2023 19:48

I’ve got bad circulation at the best of times so find I have to lie with my legs raised some nights just to make it feel like the blood is coming back out my feet! My legs get so heavy. I have probably not been drinking anywhere near 2L even and in this heat too I feel like my body is just absorbing any water I do drink so really need to make a proper effort to up it now!

DesertSnow · 15/06/2023 19:59

Hope everyone is managing in the heat. So hot! Makes my trekking to the hospital so much a bit of a test.

@Marmaladebear That's exiciting you might make an offer on the house - I don't blame you not wanting to make the trip in person.

@HRSC Glad baby's movements are ok now. It's so worrying isn't it!

@unluckyinlife If you have no other symptoms it's most likely to be the heat, but do speak to midwife if you're worried. Other than that, try drinking more water, and keeping your feet up when possible, especially in the evenings. Advice I'm sure you're well aware of!

How are people doing with baby names? I think we've finally decided, which feels exciting. DH has given in and let me have two middle names instead of just one - I have two (used to have three but dropped one), and I would quite like her to have the same number as me (it's common in my family to have two). Plus the extra name mirrors one of my middle names which feels like a lovely connection. I was intending to hold off on naming till she was here and we see what she looks like, but with all the extra monitoring and talk of her coming early, I feel better for having it sorted.

BCxx · 15/06/2023 22:19

@DesertSnow congrats on picking a name! I think it’s much easier when you see them to have the name ready and just quickly confirm that’s definitely it! You don’t seem to overthink it as much that way as it has already felt like that’s their name before you saw them. I agree on wanting the same number of middle names too. This time we have two and I’m kind of holding off on getting my heart set on one of them because so many close friends/family are due next month. I would hate to start thinking that was her name then someone goes and uses it so I’m trying not to even let myself go there until the start of august when I can hopefully confirm which one it is before we meet her 😬

Marmaladebear · 16/06/2023 14:33

Thanks everyone!! Long story short we still don't have a house to buy - the search continues!! Went on a bit of a rollercoaster with it tbh but ultimately decided the house wasn't for us (shame I had already made a Pinterest board to decorate it 😂). We're going to keep looking though and hopefully we get to move when baby is a few months old.

I went to a Pilates class this morning!!! I've not been in weeks because of no time and I'm so much bigger now than the last time I went 😂😂 it was so hard and I definitely took it easy on myself but I was sooo happy afterwards - endorphins and mental space for actually spending time just on myself. I've really missed that - I did it weekly prepregnancy but with all the sickness bugs out house has had + house move stuff I haven't been able to do it in ages.

Am now hiding from the heat for the rest of the day - my husband has a father's day nursery performance by my son to go to today and I can't wait.to hear about it 🥹 the mother's day one was so sweet I obviously started getting tears in my eyes as soon as I saw my son 😍🥹

Marmaladebear · 16/06/2023 14:36

Congrats on picking a name @DesertSnow !!! We've had a name picked since we found out the gender and it makes me feel better too to have that chosen already. Keeping it a secret from everyone but we told my toddler to help him bond and he tells people sometimes 😂

Rowanandremy · 16/06/2023 15:09

@DesertSnow Congrats on picking a name! We had a name, changed our minds and have another name that feels right and was the name we had originally been sold on. I also have 2 middle names and so does dd so I was set on our son having 2, dw only has 1 and wanted to just give him 1 but I thought it wouldn’t be fair to the kids and we had 2 middle names we wanted for him so why choose between them? 😂

@Marmaladebear oh no, sorry you’ve had a rollercoaster time with the house and that it’s not worked out. You’ve done the right thing though, if it isn’t right then it isn’t - as frustrating as it can be! Well done on the Pilates class, it’s always nice when it feels worth it physically - even better when it gives you something mentally too. I’m going to miss that about swimming but I go with my mum so I’m just going to hers instead for a chinwag and a cuppa, not as tiring 😂😂

I’m absolutely shattered today, spent most of the morning in the kitchen cooking food for me to eat at the wedding (I’m a super fussy eater), the house is still boiling hot and I had to keep double checking everything because I felt a bit scatter brained and paranoid I’d do something wrong and it would all go to waste 😂 to top it off I chipped my nail polish that I spent 2 hours on last night so have to redo it 😭 I’ll take it though because that’s 2 hours sitting and not being in front of a hot oven 😂😂

BCxx · 17/06/2023 12:10

Have you all had many people asking what you need (in terms of a gift)? My parents have and are getting things from my list of things still to buy but his parents haven’t asked at all and I’m now wondering if I just order the rest of the list myself or hold off. The last time his mum bought all this highly perfumed bath stuff, talcum powder etc and I just said thanks and pretended we used it. My son has really sensitive skin so I’ve always stuck to one brand and had to donate that stuff to charity. I got bath stuff from so many other people too and again thanked them profusely (then donated it to a charity shop after). I don’t want to hurt her feelings by saying anything so feel like I’m just going to have to let her waste money buying stuff we aren’t going to use again because she hasn’t asked 🤦🏼‍♀️ just hate people wasting money if there’s actually something really useful they could have got but I’d never suggest anything unless they ask

marleyandme · 17/06/2023 12:49

@BCxx could you maybe buy the other essentials on your list and then keep a few non-essentials/nice things in case they ask? I've got a few things like handprint kits or winter clothes for them to grow into on my list of things to ask people for if they want to buy something in particular, but none of them will matter if I don't have them when baby gets here.
It's tough when people buy things you've already got or that aren't suitable, but I think that's a bit inevitable anyway!

Asher19992 · 17/06/2023 15:51

Hey All,

Had my 31 appointment there and baby is breech. Anybody else still breech at this stage? They said not to worry but I really don’t want a section as I am looking forward to getting back running after

Spiralout · 17/06/2023 16:04

@Asher19992 Still lots of time for baby to turn. But even if they don’t, a c section doesn’t mean you can’t run. My friend was signed off to run 6 weeks after her section whereas my cousin had forceps, bad tearing and still finds it painful to run 8 months on.

BCxx · 17/06/2023 20:02

@marleyandme yeah I’ve got a list of smaller toys that aren’t needed at the start and a playmat etc. I’ve been sorting baby’s room today and a lot of it was in my son’s wardrobes.. there are three toys still in boxes because we got two of them at his last birthday (all from family). Which of course is lovely but it’s just such a waste of their money. We have to rotate one toy every time the in-laws come to make it look like we only have one of them when we actually have two but the other one was opened first 🙈 would be easier just to be honest 😂

BCxx · 17/06/2023 20:06

@Asher19992 you can technically run 6 weeks after a csection (if all is well) but I looked into it a lot the last time and came across a really good article basically saying whichever way you give birth you’re better to wait until 12 weeks to get back into high impact exercise like running. You can cause more long term damage and pelvic floor issues by jumping back into it at 6 weeks, even if you went naturally. I definitely wouldn’t have felt comfortable running at 6 weeks last time, was fine for power walking with the pram up hills etc but I was still aware of my scar, still bleeding on and off and my insides just didn’t feel back to normal! I waited until 12 weeks then started back with no issues. My number one fear was pelvic floor issues, especially when running but it was just the same as before baby 😅

DesertSnow · 17/06/2023 20:08

@BCxx Yeah, I was worrying before about what if she doesn't look like the name we've picked? But then if I'm already thinking of her as this name, then I will just see her and already think that's her name. Hopefully! Ah we have a friend due two weeks before my due date with a girl and we're hoping they don't go for the same name (I have an irrational feeling they could 😂). But even if they do, we will stick with it as realistically they probably won't be in our lives long term. But my dates are up in the air depending on how placenta holds up anyway, so we may deliver first and not have the problem. As for presents, maybe you can get the stuff you need and then if people ask you could ask for things you'll need later? Like bigger size clothes or winter things? We've not had people ask us what we need and I wish they would 😂

@Marmaladebear ah sorry you didn't find a house, but definitely the right decision if you weren't sure. Ha that's cute your toddler letting the name slip, but I imagine it can really help him bond with baby.

@Rowanandremy glad I'm not the only one in the two middle name camp! Another reason for wanting two is that the name was very Brazilian with just the one middle name we had chosen. My husband is Brazilian so that's great, but I felt like I wanted it also to reflect my side a bit more, so now I've added a suitable one for my heritage/family traditions I'm happy! I'm definitely also feeling scatter brained too now - don't know if it's the heat, pregnancy or a combination!

@Asher19992 I think they say breech baby isn't a concern until 36 weeks. There's still enough room for them to change positions at this point, so try not to worry!

OP posts:
BB1993 · 17/06/2023 20:11

@BCxx the only person to ask what we’d like as a gift is my mum, and I actually couldn’t even think what on earth to ask for ? As this is our second we have everything ! I’ve never really made a list to give to anyone or expected my partners family to ask to be honest ? Maybe that’s odd I’m not sure ! Going from last time, people just buy baby whatever looks cute 😂 which I’m fine with.

@DesertSnow that is so exciting about deciding on a name !! Isn’t it surprisingly challenging ?! Just really want it to be perfect for them now and their whole entire life .. no pressure 🤪

I have my 32 week scan, to check the placenta has moved up, Wednesday next week and I’m reeeeallly hoping it’s moved ! We’ve also decided to find out the gender for sure ! But not sure if we will keep it to ourselves till the end :)

hope everyone is doing okay in this heat!

DesertSnow · 17/06/2023 20:17

@BB1993 Yes exactly, like will this work when she's a toddler but also as an adult?

Fingers crossed your placenta has moved up. Exciting you're going to find out the gender! What do you have at home already? Do you have a feeling either way?

OP posts:
BB1993 · 17/06/2023 20:40

@DesertSnow we have a 2 yr old boy :) with his 12 and 20 week scan I could see immediately he was a boy !!

Whereas this time we have not spotted anything at either scan so we are thinking maybe it’s a girl ?! We would secretly love a girl this time !! But also sort of imagine myself being a boy mum for ever and loving it 😂 I’ve also been so so sick this time and last time had no sickness so that’s making us think maybe this is a girly ?! Not long till we know I spose !! people have been trying to convince me to wait as we’ve gone this far but I find I’m desperately wishing time would speed up purely because I wanna know which seems mad !

Rowanandremy · 18/06/2023 17:22

@BCxx My mum keeps asking what we need and wants a list but won’t give a budget so we’ve compromised by saying we’ll go shopping with her so we can stop her from spending too much.

@DesertSnow I’m glad i‘m not the only one in the two middle name camp! I’ve not come across many people with two middle names but I love what we’ve picked for our children. We each decided a name for the middle names too and with both children we’ve picked names that mean something to us. This might sound awful but I’m so glad the wedding is over, I’m so scatter brained and trying to get hair and make up done when it’s not my forte has been an experience 😂 now my feet are killing me and I’m just glad to sit at home for a bit 😂
