@Sjw30 that's the danger though.. the online shopping on night feeds.. the twilight hour that doesn't feel real but the money you spend is 😂😂😂

DomesticElf · 12/06/2023 13:21

A rant coming up.
So so fed up of answering the same type of small talk questions at work re my pregnancy - how long to go, how is bump, how far are you now, etc. Literally, x5-6 times a day, sometimes more. I know it's people being friendly and just making small talk, but I just want to walk along the corridor without my thoughts being interrupted. It's busy few weeks ahead, as I am trying to wrap everything up before I finish at the end of June and I really, really just want to concentrate on work. Arrrgh.

Pelvic pain is getting to me too. Also, I am very short of breath - I have to think twice whether I really I want to take that flight of stairs 😂

overwork · 12/06/2023 13:53

I've tried to work the pay out for myself but my situation isn't completely normal, I'm part time and make my hours up with bank work. One HR person categorically told me I won't get paid for this (I wasn't necessarily expecting to, but the mat leave policy says you might get mat pay for bank hours in certain circumstances), and another was absolutely sure that I would. Had I planned the pregnancy I'd have tried to go FT and saved myself the hassle!

sally16 · 12/06/2023 16:32

@overwork I've been told I'll get 0 for bank too. I also work part time and top up with bank :(
They said it's worded that way for staff that only work bank if they have been supporting the same area in a temp contract kind of deal!

Annoying!!

@DomesticElf it's so boring answering them isn't it 😂 also.. take the lift.. don't torture yourself with pelvic pain and stairs!

Spiralout · 11/06/2023 19:51

@DesertSnow yes please do update the date, thank you for keeping the list current! So glad to hear that your placenta is holding up better than expected and fingers crossed little bun keeps baking for a while longer yet!

My husband got a portable air con unit and plumbed it in so the hose goes straight out a vent in the eaves. He’s earnt serious husband points and I can already tell it’s going to be one of those best ever purchases! If you can/and have the space I would highly recommend. I’m just blocking out the thought of the next electricity bill 😂

Can I ask which air con unit you went for? It's a bit of a minefield and I've no idea to start!

Spiralout · 12/06/2023 17:01

@LBF2020 Sure - we went for the Delonghi Penguino. It’s about 9,000 BTU so will do a room but you’d need a more powerful one to do a whole floor. I wanted one with a remote control so I don’t have r to get out of bed to turn it off 😂
There was a fair bit of DIY to properly plumb the hose but you could just hang it out the window although that would be less efficient as you’d still get hot air coming in.

Amme18 · 12/06/2023 18:05

@sally16 I didn’t take mine split because it seemed equally as all over the place 🤣 so they can only split the nhs money part and not the SMP part, so the first 2 months where it’s full pay you end up worse off than the months that have SMP added to it! 8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay - this part is split equally. Then the SMP comes on whatever month it comes as normal x

sally16 · 12/06/2023 18:10

@Amme18 aw christ I've no idea what I'm getting then 😂

Amme18 · 12/06/2023 18:55

@sally16 i know and it’s only averaged over 9 months too, the last 3 months are unpaid entirely. That’s my trust though, not sure about if it’s different per trust! Nightmare to work out though isn’t it, especially cause tax etc will differ!

sally16 · 12/06/2023 19:18

@Amme18 I've been on my hmrc account and changed my projected tax for this year! Lowered it loads so Atleast I won't be bumped with tax haha!
I've picked 52 equal payments but no idea how it actually works as your lucky when payroll even reply 😂

overwork · 12/06/2023 20:28

@sally16 I actually do only work in one place and on a set day and I have to tell them if I'm not available (I'm a HCP not a nurse so there's not too many places they could put me!).
That doesn't help you though and if they can do it for some workers it should be across the board. Even if they only did it up to FT pay.
I can't complain really as I love the flexibility the rest of the time

Rowanandremy · 12/06/2023 21:40

@DesertSnow Im so glad that the placenta hasn’t deteriorated as expected, hopefully baby can stay in for a while longer yet! Not good that you nearly fainted with the heat or that you felt you looked awful in your dress. I’m sure you looked lovely but we can be our own worst critics and I know I have been since bump really popped. I am honestly dreading the heat for the wedding, the dress I’m wearing isn’t light and floaty fabric and I’m having to wear an underskirt to cover the dips of my hips to thighs - I’m going to melt 😂

How is everyone coping with the heat? Our house is unbearably warm but we can’t get an air con (really wish we could!) and we can’t have the windows open at the minute because we’ve got a lot of bees about that are determined to get in 😂 it was 28 in our bedroom last night and when I first walked in I almost fainted and struggled to breathe. I’m finding that at the minute that getting a full deep breath in is really difficult. Having to sleep with a fan directed at me but dw is struggling to
sleep through the noise.

sally16 · 12/06/2023 21:43

@overwork yeh I get that!
I only do shifts on my ward anyway so I've kinda done myself out 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was offered a full time post but declined as I liked the option of extras but ended up working full time anyway 😂
I definitely couldn't be full time after this mat leave though! It's gonna be a struggle to do 23 hours with 2 kids haha!
Hats off to anyone with multiple children and working full time!

Marmaladebear · 12/06/2023 21:52

If anyone's struggling with the heat and can't get Aircon I would really recommend getting a meaco fan if you haven't got one already. They're absolute game changers, quiet and actually keep you cool!! We got one last year during one of the terrible heat waves and it helped us so much!!

EsmeSusanOgg · 13/06/2023 09:50

airmaxJ · 11/06/2023 14:48

Hi there just noticing how much more drained doing nothing I feel in the heat , 33 weeks now and this humidity has me feeling knackered . How are you all coping with heat ?

DH set up the portable Aircon in our bedroom. God I love that man. I have curtains closed and fans on in various rooms. One of the advantages of an older house is that stays cool in summer (disadvantage being winter gas bills....)

I am just so tired at the moment! Finishing off the antibiotics from the kidney infection today. Trying to work out how much tiredness is just I am too pregnant for this heat, and how much is I am recovering from being sick.

My evening insulin keeps being slowly increased too (GD). I've now been on Metformin since 17 weeks and insulin sicne 27 weeks (over 30 weeks now). Doctors think we should probably discuss birth plan ideas nearer 32 weeks than 36... But given with my first my waters broke at 36+4 that just seems sensible.

Just hoping baby does not arrive on my birthday (at 37+1).

DesertSnow · 13/06/2023 11:41

Sorry others are also struggling with sleep and hip/pelvic pain. @Amme18 thanks for your tips on this, will definitely implement!

So jealous of those with air con! Just glad I'm wfh at the moment so I can sit in my underwear. Just hope no one calls me unexpectedly on Teams 😂

@EsmeSusanOgg hope you're feeling better. We have quite a few family birthdays around due date, so have always hoped baby wouldn't pick one of those - though now we might be looking at earlier delivery anyway. Hope your little one manages to miss your birthday (though it would be one to remember!)😊

HRSC · 14/06/2023 10:13

My granny (mums mum), mum and sister all have the same birthday and it’s really special - they’re celebrate together and it’s always a really happy day! My baby is due 2 days before my other granny’s birthday and she is very keen that the baby be born on her birthday! I would really like it too as it would make a really nice connection.

Yesterday I couldn’t feel the baby moving very much (she is usually extremely active) just some light kicks sporadically throughout the day. But I also had quite a stressful day as we’re moving back into our house after 3 months of renovations (plus my husbands family is coming to stay with us in our house today for a week so we are desperately trying to get everything ready and remove as much dust as possible!!) but last night when I couldn’t sleep I could feel her moving around and this morning I’m feeling her more like normal. Is it normal to notice less movements sometimes?? Do babies sometimes have less active days?

BusyBushBaby · 14/06/2023 11:54

@HRSC I find I notice my baby move less when I am very busy/active. Not sure if she's actually moving less or if I just don't notice it, but either way if I lie down for a bit I can always feel her kicking away. Either way if you're worried about reduced movements I'm sure the midwives will be happy to check you out.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 14/06/2023 12:06

Hi, I'm 30+3 today and have had a pain in my left hand side (about half way down) since sometime during the night. Anybody else experiencing this? Just ligament pains?

Marmaladebear · 14/06/2023 12:09

@HRSC I'm the same as @BusyBushBaby , my baby moves around less when I'm active and more when I'm just sitting down (think I rock her to sleep when I move around!) Definitely ring up if you're worried and I think they will ask you to come in just to check and be safe - my midwife was pretty firm with me that I need to go in if I notice a change in pattern of movements.

Hope everyone's doing ok in the heat!! My husband is going up north today to look at houses so fingers crossed they are good and we can make an offer 🤞🏽🤞🏽 we've previously been going up to look at houses together but driving there and back with a toddler while 8 months pregnant is no joke so have trusted my husband with this important task!!

Just a quick flag... You can apply for child benefit online now (after baby is born and registered). Quicker than the old postal forms.

I'm the same. Also certain positions seem to make it easier to feel movements.

HRSC · 14/06/2023 18:33

Thanks. She has been moving around a lot more today and everything feels normal. I think yesterday was a very hectic and busy day so all the movement would’ve rocked her to sleep.

Marmaladebear · 14/06/2023 18:38

@HRSC glad all is ok today ♥️

Rowanandremy · 14/06/2023 19:27

@EsmeSusanOgg sorry to hear you’ve been having such a rough time of it, no wonder you are tired! Hope baby doesn’t come on your birthday (unless you change your mind on that!), we have a lot of birthdays in the run up and I am desperately hoping he doesn’t arrive on any of them.

I am so envious of everyone with aircon! @Marmaladebear thank you for the meaco fan recommendation, we really like the look of it but sadly can’t afford one anytime soon. Maybe next year. Good luck with the house hunt!

@HRSC glad everything is ok today, it can be worrying when movements drop off like that. Dd once spent half a day not moving until I went to the hospital and she started moving on the way there, I would definitely say that if you are worried definitely get checked out - for peace of mind if nothing else.

Baby boy had hiccups yesterday and today, I’d never felt it before. His sister had them with her 4d scan but I’d not felt them, I found it a very strange feeling and at first he didn’t seem to like it as he was kicking and punching away like crazy before settling down. It’s my last swim tomorrow which I’m quite sad about but I don’t think I can continue for much longer.
