Just to say folks im at my mum and dads today and they are life savers! They are playing with their grandson and mum said go and lie down and rest for a bit. I'm just about to try and get some zzs but wanted to catch up with you all.

I still feel the guilt of us moving away from living nearby to my parents because they love spending time with our little boy. Does it ever go away?

About the girdle pain i how you can find something that works, warm got water bottle maybe? Or just lots of cushions?

overwork · 10/06/2023 17:42

@CremeEggsForBreakfast & @HRSC I'm still not certain that it was pelvic girdle pain as I never spoke to the MW about it, but I was really struggling with pulling pelvic pains around the 20 weeks mark. I paid about £60 to see an osteopath , she also gave me a couple of stretches to do. The pain dissipated a few days later and though I get the occasional twinge since I've been absolutely fine to keep working (also have to walk a lot in my job). The MW can refer you to physio too. Hope you find something to help.

HRSC · 11/06/2023 08:53

Thank you all for your replies - it’s nice to know I’m not the only one, Although I am sorry you are suffering too!

My doctor has prescribed magnesium for me to take but I’m not sure it’s having any effect. Also have long baths pretty much every evening which are very nice but it’s limited in its support. About the physios/osteos/chiros… I’ve heard they can be very helpful but I’m not UK based and it’s really hard to find one that will treat a pregnant lady (and that my health insurance will cover…) my husband and I have resorted to sleeping in separate rooms as I toss and turn so much at night and the amount of pillows I use means he doesn’t even fit in the bed! 😅 I also have one of those Pilates balls which are quite good but not a fix. Really hoping it will go away once the baby is born! 🤞

Shinea · 11/06/2023 12:22

m 29 weeks and feeling so exhausted!!
I work 5 days a week and I currently wfh but work is very very exhausting and it's taking all my energy, i sometime feel bad that I m not able to spend much time with my 2.3 yrs old toddler!!
I have no energy left for anything !I wake up exhausted and work is stressing me a lot!
I m thinking to go on maternity from 34-36 weeks but however that's still 6 weeks long!! I feel getting passed by each day is very hectic..

I want to spend as much as time with my toddler before baby comes also I want to enjoy my pregnancy as this will be my last pregnancy but work stress, body aches, mood swings everything is making me exhausted😭

sally16 · 11/06/2023 14:45

I've been signed off work for my last few weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️ could barley walk and realised I should have done this last week and saved myself the torture!

Finally stretch everyone!
We've finally ordered furniture so Atleast I'll have plenty sorting time!

airmaxJ · 11/06/2023 14:48

Hi there just noticing how much more drained doing nothing I feel in the heat , 33 weeks now and this humidity has me feeling knackered . How are you all coping with heat ?

Rowanandremy · 11/06/2023 15:58

@Shinea I can’t comment about your work situation, only for you to do what you feel is best and feasible. I completely get what you mean about wanting to spend as much time with your toddler before baby is born but that exhaustion is hampering that for you - I have a 4 year old and for the biggest percent of this pregnancy I’ve felt like I’ve given her a fraction of the time and attention that she deserves and what I have given her has been all the energy I have. This is also my last pregnancy and I had hoped to enjoy it more but being honest, I’ve had a far more physically taxing pregnancy than I had last time and that’s made it very hard to enjoy.

@sally16 not good about you barely being able to walk but a silver lining not having to struggle to work through it. So exciting to have the furniture ordered too! Can’t believe we are on the final stretch!

@airmaxJ I’m 32 weeks today and I am completely sapped from this heat - and that’s with a fan on all the time! I’m guzzling cold water like it’s going out of fashion and living in shorts and strappy tops but it’s not helping much. I feel like my brain is mush 😂 I’m supposed to be going swimming tomorrow and I can’t wait for the cold water but I don’t know if I’ve actually got the energy to swim

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 11/06/2023 16:02

I also meant to say @HHRSC that counting kicks is no longer the advice for how to gauge Baby's health. There's no right or wrong number of kicks but it's about recognising your baby's own pattern of movement and checking there's no change.

I spoke to my midwife about this as my baby seems to have no discernible pattern whatsoever (and every time I think he does, he changes again - just to keep me on my toes).

Midwife says no pattern can be a pattern but listen to your gut and if you even think there's something amiss then call whoever is your first contact (midwife, maternity unit etc).

sommeliermama · 11/06/2023 16:31

@airmaxJ The heat is so draining. I've been napping all afternoon in bed and I usually hate being in bed during the day! Absolutely zero energy!

DesertSnow · 11/06/2023 19:22

So much to catch up on! I've been away for the weekend for a wedding and definitely felt huge and very hot and uncomfortable. Nearly fainted a couple of times which really wasn't fun. It was also my birthday but we didn't celebrate - between the wedding being the same day and our worries about the baby, didn't really feel like it.

@Paintandpots I hadn't thought about snacks/drinks for labour but have heard energy drinks are good. I was struggling with clothes so got a couple of bits off Shein to wear in the hot weather, and I'm much more comfortable.

@airmaxJ I like Heidi out of those two 😊But might be worth keeping both on the table and seeing what she looks like before deciding?

@sally16 and @Marmaladebear Hope your DS's are feeling better!

@BB1993 My inkling proved to be very very wrong! I was convinced from the beginning that it was a boy but all our many many scans since then have shown it's a little girl.

@EsmeSusanOgg Hope you're feeling better!

Welcome @chickpea1982 I'll add you to the next list.

@Rowanandremy I found it tricky getting a wedding dress outfit for this weekend, and I felt I just looked absolutely awful and cringed at all the pics that were taken. Next time I might rethink accepting a June wedding invite at 33 weeks pregnant 😓Great you all the all clear for the birth centre.

Congrats on getting your date @Spiralout - shall I update that on the next list for you?

Welcome back @HRSC, I'll add you to the next list. Sorry you're having hip and pelvic pain, I also have this and have no tips but a lot of empathy! It's just hideous.

Thank you to everyone wishing us well and your kind words. Thankfully latest FMU scan showed placenta isn't deteriorating as fast as they first feared. Continued monitoring and taking it day by day but hoping to keep baby in for a bit longer.

Is anyone else suffering from insomnia? I got two hours last night, and even less the night before. Seems quite extreme, will mention to midwife at next apppointment.

OP posts:
Amme18 · 11/06/2023 19:42

@DesertSnow snow no insomnia here (but I think with everything going on for you it’s not unexpected!), but restless legs kicked in last night! 3 hours I couldn’t fall asleep for, tried going in the recliner sofa for a while, sat up in bed etc etc but between that and PGP I didn’t stand a chance! Absolutely exhausted today.

Also to whoever said about the hip pain - I went to physio but honestly no massive help (although I’m an OT that works a bit generically alongside nurses and physios so a lot of the stuff I was already practicing!). Make sure you’re never putting unequal weight through your legs - ie from sitting make sure you’re standing pushing through both arms rather than twisted, get dressed sat down down, lay on your side with a pillow between your knees so you hips in line with your knees. Don’t be in the same position for longer than 20 mins - have a stand if you’re sat, do pelvic tilts. Do pelvic floor exercises x 3 daily (fast and slow ones), do these sort of tummy squeezes daily (she said like you’re trying to hug baby with your tummy muscles 😅). Other than that it will most likely go away as soon as baby is here. Wear a support band if struggling, don’t over wear them or your muscles won’t be working at all and they get lazy.

Sorry for the long post - just thought I’d try and pass on some tips 😅

Spiralout · 11/06/2023 19:51

@DesertSnow yes please do update the date, thank you for keeping the list current! So glad to hear that your placenta is holding up better than expected and fingers crossed little bun keeps baking for a while longer yet!

My husband got a portable air con unit and plumbed it in so the hose goes straight out a vent in the eaves. He’s earnt serious husband points and I can already tell it’s going to be one of those best ever purchases! If you can/and have the space I would highly recommend. I’m just blocking out the thought of the next electricity bill 😂

EsmeSusanOgg · 11/06/2023 20:01

This is baby No 2 for me. One of the best tips I had for labour was have a squeezy bottle (can just be an empty water, but it needs the sippy/ squeezy lid) full of water ready for the first postpartum pee. If you do not, it stings like all Hells. You want to dillute your pee as much as possible so it doesn't sting. Seriously, so simple, worked a charm!

EsmeSusanOgg · 11/06/2023 20:02

@Spiralout my husband set up the portable Aircon (goes up the chimney) for our bedroom last night. Dear god I need it!

sally16 · 11/06/2023 21:22

@Amme18 I can confirm the pelvic pain literally disappears after birth!
When my spinal wore off with DS I was scared to stand because of the previous agony but it was totally gone!!
Left hip never fully recovered but that was a bit iffy before pregnancy anyway!

Amme18 · 11/06/2023 21:30

@sally16 thank you! I never had it with my son, absolute breeze of a pregnancy. Pregnancy no2 nothing but trouble 😂

BCxx · 11/06/2023 21:53

It really does feel like we’re heading for the home straight now with so many of us being 30+ weeks all of a sudden 🤯 It felt like it was going a bit slow around the 22/23 week mark but feel like I’ve now blinked and I’m here (with nothing ready)!

Im not majorly struggling but I am finding the heat to be zapping my energy and I admitted defeat today and went for a nap at the same time as my toddler. I haven’t done that since I felt so ill in the early days. I’m finding I’m really tired when I go to bed at night but i’ll wake up at 5 most mornings needing to pee, if I go my toddler usually hears me through the wall and wakes up so it’s a risky business 🤦🏻‍♀️

Less than 3 weeks of June left and I’m aiming to have all the big things done by then with clothes in the wardrobe to see what else I’ve still to buy!

BCxx · 11/06/2023 21:54

@BMK dont know if I’ve just missed your comments but haven’t seen your name recently.. hope all is well with you 😊

HRSC · 12/06/2023 08:01

@CremeEggsForBreakfast thank you for clarifying about the kick counting. I read that you had to do it twice a day for an hour each time - not sure who has that much free time on their hands! 😂

Also thank you to @Amme18 for your recommendations for the pelvic exercises. I will give them a go, 🤞 there is some progress. And so good to hear that it goes away after the birth. Just can’t wait to not have the pain!! Was up in the middle of the night bouncing around on the Pilates ball as it’s too painful to sleep

sally16 · 12/06/2023 11:33

Got my maternity confirmation from work today 52 equal payments..
now I have the fear 🤣 after my enhancements stop being laid in arrears I'm gonna be so poor 😂

overwork · 12/06/2023 12:26

Ooh @sally16 are you NHS? My Trust say I can't have my breakdown until nearer the time I go off, how am I meant to budget!

sally16 · 12/06/2023 12:31

@overwork yep nhs... they won't give a monthly breakdown at all.. just said it's equal.. I was like yes, but how much!! 😂
I've been told it's not equal either. Some months are £700 some are £1200 etc.. nothing is set 🫠
I'm trying to budget for worst case £700

Sjw30 · 12/06/2023 12:36

I haven’t been given mine yet either! @sally16 @overwork I’ve gone for equal payments too but this won’t be for two months in as SMP doesn’t kick in until 8 weeks. I am dreading the first two paydays!

sally16 · 12/06/2023 12:37

@Sjw30 I'm just gonna try and not look at my bank and live in denial 🤣

Sjw30 · 12/06/2023 12:39

@sally16 same 🤣 good job I probably won’t want to leave the house too much in those first few weeks haha
