@BB1993 my tummy seems to have settled down with the iron tablets at the moment, past few days not been feeling as sick which is nice. One last told me to drink some orange juice with it before eating to help with the absorption which she said might help with the feeling a bit sick part. Hasn't tried it as we ate it off the oj stuff.

Also about baby gender stuff, i was wrong, i thought maybe little one was a girl because i was having a rough time of it in 1st trimester. But my other half was right when he guessed a boy. Need to ask him what made him say boy.....

@EsmeSusanOgg sounds like your having a tough time at the moment, hope you can get some rest and recover at home for a bit. Also any chance you username is linked to Terry Pratchets discworld books?

@Rowanandremy you are indeed a tough cookie, if i had been invited to a wedding i would not be going at this point as lol can't be doing with the stress of finding outfit, dealing pregnancy peearea (multiple toilet trips) and navigating small confines of the reception and lunch 😆 What are you planning on wearing?

@overwork @sally16 exactly why I'm thinking of holding off from getting baby bouncer and baby wrap.

How is everyone's clothing holding up? I have 3 full outfits left that i can fit into comfortably...ish.

Marmaladebear · 09/06/2023 06:39

@Paintandpots glad your tummy has settled down!! Lol I have barely anything I fit into. Luckily the weather seems to have gotten warmer as I have a few dresses that are maternity and a few I can squeeze into that aren't (elasticated empire line!).but when it's cold I basically just wear my husband's clothes because I hate hate the maternity jeans I've bought.

Rowanandremy · 09/06/2023 06:51

@Paintandpots oh god we were pulling our hair out trying to find an outfit that looked somewhat flattering 😂 dw found a lovely red maternity dress from new look that is literally the only outfit I tried that looked somewhat decent. This pregnancy has sucked all moisture out of my skin and hair so I’m having to take more care with a skin and hair routine (not usually my thing!) and make up is a thing I don’t wear but I have to because I also have had a flare up of rosacea. It’s been a fair bit of stress 😂 I do worry about needing the toilet frequently, even more so if it’s a warm day but I’ve been told there is toilets available so nothing should stand in the way of me using it. I’ve never actually been to a wedding before, apart from my own and that was a registry office wedding, so I’m curious what it’s like - just hope it’s one of my good days and not a day I’m absolutely exhausted 🤣

I got the all clear for a birth centre birth so barring any issues, like him measuring bigger (I was 3 weeks ahead the last time I saw my midwife) I should be in the same place I had dd which I’m pleased with because it was lovely.

sally16 · 09/06/2023 06:55

@Paintandpots I have like 4 outfits lol
Been living in leggings and over sized tops which is my go too anyway but they aren't oversized now 🤣

chickpea1982 · 09/06/2023 07:58

Can anyone recommend a good sling/baby carrier suitable for a newborn? I used a baby bjorn with DS1 and DS2, but it wasn't great for the newborn stage. I'd like something a bit structured - not just one of those pieces of fabric you wrap round you - I found them too fiddly. Also worth mentioning that I have enormous boobs (not a blessing, believe me!) so any recommendations for slings that work with big boobs would be appreciated.

marleyandme · 09/06/2023 08:10

@chickpea1982 have you looked to see if there's a sling library in your local area? There's one in mine and they have a whole range of different types of slings to borrow and try to see what suits so that might help!
I've got a close caboo lite but that's just a fabric wrap and I have a more structured outdoor one from amazon but that's suitable for 8lbs plus so not a definite one for newborn but maybe good if they're chunkier or after a few weeks.

chickpea1982 · 09/06/2023 08:24

@marleyandme There are a couple of sling libraries near me, but they are helpfully only open on weekday mornings! I guess I could go when I start maternity leave, but I wanted to get something sorted before then if I could. I've heard good things about the close caboo, I might look into that one a bit more, thanks.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 09/06/2023 10:32

Anybody struggling with sleep it might be worth giving a weighted blanket a go.

I have been have very little sleep the last few weeks, I have tried a few different types of pillows. But none have helped me get comfortable and I have had restless leg syndrome. So I ordered a weighted blanket mainly for the restless legs and put a normal pillow between my legs, and I had the best nights sleep. First time I have had 8 hours in weeks x

BusyBushBaby · 09/06/2023 10:34

@marleyandme I've got a second hand ergobaby embrace but haven't tried it yet. I used a stretchy wrap with my last baby - baby loved it but it was a bit faffy and my partner didn't get on with it at all - I'm hoping she'll get on better ergobaby embrace. We also have a boba G4S which we used loads with our son, but it's not suitable from birth unless baby is v large and also a bit bulky for wearing around the house.

unluckyinlife · 09/06/2023 11:01

@BCxx I am with you on spending far too much this month!! We've made the final payment on our travel bundle which is being delivered next Wednesday, finally brought the next to you we wanted and then my dad gave us some money to get essentials so ordered a playmat, bouncer chair and the changing bag!

We still need a couple of bits but the main items are now purchased so I feel a bit more organised.

The nursery hasn't been sorted at all and nesting has not begun 😃

My husband is still working away on weekdays, so in the evenings I am exhausted and at the weekend we end up trying to make the most of the family time together so I don't want to 'waste' it..

Eventually something will need to change!

Rowanandremy · 09/06/2023 13:27

@BCxx Im with you on spending too much too, we’ve been to IKEA today to get a changing table and a few other bits and bobs - I won’t say how much we spent! 😂 never mind there’s a mamas and papas nearby that we just had to go to for a ‘look round’ - lethal decision. We’ve mostly got all of the big things now but it’s all the little straggly bits that add up, as I am being reminded of 😂

@Paintandpots I forgot to say that I’ve got two pairs of trusty jeans and three skirts I am using in rotation. Otherwise it’s leggings in the house and whatever strappy top fits me - luckily I’ve always worn oversized tops so about half my wardrobe doesn’t fit but I’ve enough to get by without buying more.

@MinnieFirstTimeMum So glad you’ve had a better nights sleep with your weighted blanket, my wife swears by hers but sadly I can’t get on with it - I’ve heard they are a bit like marmite, you either love them or don’t.

Spiralout · 09/06/2023 14:10

Got my c-section date booked today - 27 July. Quite exciting that we potentially know baby boy’s birthday already (subject to any delays on the day!)

My MIL got a bit funny when we let her know. Think she had banked on a natural birth and that I would be later than my due date (4 Aug) as she has family friends from Australia over and staying in late July/early August! Not my fault!

For anyone who has had a c-section before, what are your top tips?

EsmeSusanOgg · 09/06/2023 15:16

@Paintandpots yup! Massive Discworld nerd over here! One of the things I and my DH became friends over before we started dating.

EsmeSusanOgg · 09/06/2023 15:17

@Spiralout Exciting to have a date! Good luck!

sommeliermama · 09/06/2023 15:46

@Paintandpots I've had a few outfits that fit in the second trimester but not any more! My H&M maternity jeans are now way too tight around the belly so I'm living in my partner's sweatpants at home, and leggings when I go anywhere. Kind of dreading any time I need to be out/meeting anyone as I have very few options left 😂

overwork · 09/06/2023 16:22

Somehow I still fit into several of my normal outfits, but I just must have been a fan of the slouchy look pre baby as I'm the size of a house

BCxx · 09/06/2023 19:41

@Spiralout aw amazing.. my MIL is very judgey so we didn’t tell her last time and just announced when the baby had arrived 😂 I just couldn’t be bothered with the comments before it and sure enough she’s asked so many times since about such personal information to do with it. So leaving it vague again this time!

I would say make life easy for yourself afterwards. Don’t just pack a hospital bag and prepare nothing else for yourself.. this time I’m going to sit outfits and pyjamas out somewhere I can easily reach and have extra big pants all sitting ready for coming home. I think i focused so much on the hospital bag last time that I kind of forgot I’d be moaping about the house when I got back and didn’t want to rely on my husband to quickly wash all my bloody hospital stuff 😂 I did sit all my pads up high in the bathroom before I left though which I was glad of. I took colparmin capsules after the section as I don’t like peppermint tea and they stop you getting air trapped in your shoulder which is meant to be agony, I took them and didn’t get any so will do that again. I slept propped up in my pregnancy pillow the first week which helped a bit as the rolling out of bed awkwardly thing was the worst part of the whole experience for me. So so difficult to do! An extra long phone charger and take a carrier bag for rubbish as you obviously can’t move at first to put things in the bin and it quickly mounts up round about you 😂 slide on shoes too!

BCxx · 09/06/2023 19:44

@Rowanandremy oh I can imagine! 😂 It totally is the little things that you forget about, you kind of budget for the big stuff and know roughly how much things will be but £100 here and there just for daft things is what’s getting to me! Got all my carpets cleaned today too, as obviously the baby will be coming round to inspect those and will need to get the car done 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Spiralout · 09/06/2023 19:49

@EsmeSusanOgg Thank you! I’m really hoping it is that day (and I don’t get bumped to the next day) as it’s a Thursday and both my husband and I were Thursday babies!

@BCxx thank you - they are all really good tips! Re the pads, is the bleeding for any less time with a section? I have some left over disposable period pants from a previous MC but thinking I might need something more heavy duty. I’m ok on peppermint tea so will make sure I am stocked on that!

Rowanandremy · 09/06/2023 20:30

@BCxx thats true about budgeting for the bigger things, dw keeps a list of things we need to get and every time she shows me I swear we haven't managed to shorten it - despite buying things 😂 that and it makes my eyes bug out at the sheer amount of little stuff we need. Haha I was the same with dd, we had the carpet cleaned and I was fixated on getting on the floor to clean the skirting boards -because of course that would matter to a newborn 🤣 dw redirected me towards the kitchen and just unleashed me on it instead. We’re still in the middle of sorting and decorating so my nesting phase is there but I can’t do much about it at the minute.

@Spiralout thats exciting that you (hopefully) know the date! Sorry that your mil has been a bit funny, I swear it does something to some people when they know someone pregnant. We have a lot of birthdays at the end of July and the beginning of august and I’ve joked with everyone possibly affected that I can’t hold him in if he chooses their birthday as his. Sorry that got away from me a bit, I hope your mil comes round and stops being funny with you/ about it.

BCxx · 09/06/2023 20:49

@Spiralout I have nothing to compare it to but think it’s definitely less. When I hit 2 weeks mine completely tailed off and I thought that must have been it finished, was so chuffed 😂 then a few days later it was back and lasted weeks and weeks but wasn’t heavy. It was only heavy the first week I’d say. I put double layers of pads for the very early days if someone was coming to visit etc and I was a bit on edge about it potentially leaking but it was always fine. That’s good you like peppermint tea, wish I did!

BCxx · 09/06/2023 20:52

@Rowanandremy haha its definitely hard to contain yourself! 😂 I think especially with our bedroom I just can’t bare the thought of a new baby sleeping in a room with any dust to breathe in but I remember doing the same last time and within a few weeks I had got over it 🙈 At least it starts us on a fresh even if it doesn’t last 😂

Rowanandremy · 09/06/2023 21:04

@BCxx oh definitely! We’re decorating our bedroom next week and we’re taking the opportunity to give it a really good clean and sort through. I keep walking through rooms and noticing things that ‘need’ doing before he arrives but it’s less about what he needs and more my brain has decided I can’t possibly bring my son home to that room with dust on a door handle - or something equally daft sounding 😂

HRSC · 10/06/2023 09:43

Hello,
I hope you don’t mind me joining - I did comment right at the beginning when I was around 6 weeks but then I had so much anxiety I had to take myself away. Currently 29 weeks with my first (a girl) and due on 26 August (although I wouldn’t mind if she decided to come earlier!!)

I have been having the worst hip and pelvis pain. Sometimes I can barely get out of bed and it hurts so much to walk. Has anyone else experienced this and any tips?? I’ve been signed off work as I have quite an active job so that’s helped but the constant pain is really getting to me. And the insomnia is also soo fun!

I’ve been reading about doing kick counts but I’m not exactly sure how to count them? She often tumbles around and it feels like many kicks in one moment (if that makes any sense??) so does that count as one kick or two or three?

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 10/06/2023 09:54

@HHRSC

I could have written your post word for word - right down to the due date!

I've found the Babymoov dream belt a lifesaver for sleep. It's a wedge shaped pillow that straps to you so offers your bump support no matter which way you're lying. It doesn't fix it entirely but I haven't woken up in the night in agony with my hips this week so that's a positive.

I haven't found anything that helps with the pelvic girdle pain that has been significantly worse this week. My midwife suggested a maternity support belt but I haven't mastered putting it on yet. Her advice otherwise was basically take it easy and ride it out which didn't fill me with confidence especially as my job is also a pretty active one. I'd really like to avoid being signed off work but if I get much more uncomfortable I won't have a choice.
