@firsttimelondonmummy I saw my consultant yesterday for similar issues (40th centile, to 16th, to 6th). All blood flow similarly looks ok. My consultant explained that where there are consistent drops in the centiles, it's unlikely to just be a small baby, and is instead most likely due to placental insufficiency. As the baby gets bigger, the demands on the placenta are increased, which puts baby at risk if the placenta isn't functioning effectively. So they prefer to not leave baby in for too long as the risk of stillbirth increases (I don't mean to worry you but want you to have all the facts).

My last baby had to the same issues but the dopplers monitoring blood flow started to show that the baby wasn't getting what it needed, so they delivered sooner at 36 weeks. Baby was tiny but perfect and I often think "what if we'd left it longer and lost him". Doesn't bear thinking about.

If you're unsure, ask your doctor more questions -easier said than done I know as my consultant is not very approachable. I'm now having weekly dopplers to keep an eye on blood flow with a view to delivering at 38 weeks via c section (they won't induce as I've had a previous c section).

Ally1992 · 18/05/2023 15:43

I’m currently in hospital waiting to be induced at 37+1 so hoping to come back with a positive story for anyone on here being induced. We’ve been given our own room which they said is ours for the foreseeable and I’m currently hooked up to the monitor, baby is doing fine and head down still. Then they are going to examine my cervix and insert the pessary I believe and I can walk around the grounds if want to after. They said at any point if I change my mind and want a c section that’s fine but I really want to stick it out!

Hlc86 · 18/05/2023 15:53

@Ally1992 oooh good luck hope all goes well, keep us posted xx

Belami · 18/05/2023 16:13

Aww all the best @Ally1992 ❤️❤️❤️ I'm 36+6 so only 2 days difference!! So lovely you'll have your little one in your arms soon. Keep us posted. Are you planning on pain relief or just seeing how you get on? Xx

Ally1992 · 18/05/2023 16:32

@Hlc86 thank you and I will do it’s a long and boring process I believe so this will help pass the time!

@Belami thank you! I plan on getting an epidural as soon as I’m allowed, we’re on the delivery suite already as there were no beds on the induction ward so can hear the other women screaming around us 🙈

toomanysausages · 18/05/2023 17:48

@firsttimelondonmummy I have no advice sorry but what is his weight like on the percentile chart thing? Is that in line with being small too? Maybe his AC is to do with nutrition and that can be more easily monitored when he's out?

@Ally1992 very exciting, please keep us updated and good luck!!

Ally1992 · 18/05/2023 18:51

They checked my cervix and it’s completely closed so they inserted the pessary an hour ago and have been left alone now, hoping that some contractions will start overnight 🤞

ireneadler101 · 18/05/2023 18:56

@Ally1992 Good luck, I hope it goes well!

Belami · 18/05/2023 19:08

@Ally1992 ahh is it really loud in there? Ngl I'm going to be terrified of hearing all the sounds 🙈 I'm sure I'll be just as loud though arghhh

PurBal · 18/05/2023 20:30

@Ally1992 how exciting that baby will be here soon! I was offered an induction today for my mental health and can’t decide whether to go for it or not. My baby is fine, it’s me that’s the problem.

BobbySD345 · 18/05/2023 21:18

Good Luck @Ally1992. Please keep us posted ?! I remember being in the triage and I was 4cm, not really in pain at that stage and a woman came in and was screaming "it's coming it's coming" and the baby just plopped out of her. I was traumatised 🤣 I'm sure you'll see some sights and hear some interesting noises.
I'm currently tracking tightenings on my phone and I'm now at 2 hours with them every 4 minutes. Been trying to walk and drink water etc because I figure they're just hicks but the pressure on my bum is insane. I'm on iron and I think they make me constipated so it could be the hicks just making me uncomfortable back there due to being a bit blocked. Sorry if TMI. Wondered if anyone else had similar experiences? I'm only just over 34 weeks so not sure I'd be going into labour...

DrinkingAllTheGin · 18/05/2023 21:22

Im in hospital overnight for monitoring. Had a bleed at about 4.30pm and immediately called triage. They said come in.
Monitored for 2 hours, and bubs moving well and heart rate fine.
They are keeping me in overnight for further investigation.
It's not clear if my waters have gone or not.

BobbySD345 · 18/05/2023 21:39

@DrinkingAllTheGin Oh gosh ! Hope all is well and you manage to get some sleep tonight x

Hlc86 · 18/05/2023 21:52

Gosh everyone seems to be in hospital or going in at the moment, @BobbySD345 that's how I was the end of last week I had to go in and spent 2 nights in hospital as they thought it was preterm labour and I was just 34 weeks, they gave me steroid injections to speed her lungs along and I was contracting all night, but luckily by morning things had eased off, I'm still getting alot of tightenings which are stronger than braxton hicks but they did say that could because baby is now transverse so my uterus is stretching differently? But who knows at this stage, keep an eye and if in doubt call the unit to be checked

BobbySD345 · 18/05/2023 22:07

@Hlc86 I'm driving myself mad monitoring it so I've stopped now for a bit and I figured if they become intense or more painful overnight I will have to go in. I went in a couple of weeks back and had the preterm labour test because i lost part of the plug and had loads of hicks but that was neg and I've got so much pressure on my bum this time they just feel more intense if that makes sense. Have they said to you that you're likely to go into labour in the next 14 days now then? Bet you're on pins if so !

Ally1992 · 18/05/2023 22:16

I haven’t heard any screaming for a while and it was only a few times before that for a little bit so assume they were at pushing stage! Finally fell asleep and they woke me up to listen to babies heart beat, my partner is here on a camp bed next to me snoring 😅 haven’t had any cramps or anything yet unfortunately but they said it could take up to 24 hours for the pessary to work

BobbySD345 · 18/05/2023 22:38

@Ally1992 Aw it's nice that your partner can stay and actually has a bed to sleep on. Our Hospital doesn't allow partners when you're being induced except for visiting hours so I imagine it gets quite lonely. I remember they sent DH home the evening of when our DS was born and I cried all night because I had this little baby and couldn't move from painful stitches and I just wanted him there. I don't think they appreciate how much the support of partners and family make the experience so much better for Mothers. Hope you get some sleep and there's some movement by morning x

Funfamilytimes · 18/05/2023 22:55

@Ally1992 how exciting! Definitely would love to hear your birthing story. I’m getting induced in two weeks. Hope the contractions kick in soon (or maybe after you’ve had a nice nap haah)

tigerlily0 · 19/05/2023 00:40

I'm 38 weeks now and today the braxton hicks feel painful and every baby movement is causing lightening crotch, finally packed my bag, just need to pack bags for other 2 DC. Still find it so weird that you just don't know when things are going to start

Zaalfruit · 19/05/2023 07:12

Just catching up ! How is everyone - seems like I have to catch up on a lot . So many in the hospital - hope everyone is alright . Also VERY exciting that lots of babies will be coming soon. How many babies have been born so far now?

@Ally1992 super exciting that you could be holding your baby anytime !

@DrinkingAllTheGin I hope you are alright - and well looked after . Do you think the baby will be here soon?

@BobbySD345 @Hlc86 I have been feeling intense tightening pains luckily I had a midwife appointment and she said it just seems to be Braxton hicks - but I’m finding them super painful and anytime the baby moves I swear it hurts so much . My last labour was so fast total time 8 hours ( end to end) I have been told any signs I need to rush in as my iron is super low and risk of bleeding is high.

Also does anyone else find the growth scans and the midwives measurements having no correlation . My growth scans are showing the baby will be a whopping 9lbs and midwife measurements 8lbs . I really hope the scans are inaccurate- I’m only 5’2 so it feels huge to me . Also what’s everyone’s opinions on sweeps?

PurBal · 19/05/2023 07:23

@Zaalfruit re: sweeps, when I went overdue in my first pregnancy the midwife I had was “against” them. In as much as she had written a paper on them which basically concluded that unless you were near to labour anyway they weren’t likely to get labour started. I’d Be interested to know the research.

Ally1992 · 19/05/2023 07:44

Contractions started at 3am, I wasn’t sure if it was contractions at first but they are every couple of minutes now and feel like strong period pains. The pessary has to stay in for 24 hours (unless I lose it with mucus plug) so I have until 5pm and then I’m praying my cervix has dilated enough to break my waters. Been given paracetamol and codeine to help with the pain, I also have a bath tub so will use that at some point.

I can’t believe the amount of hospitals that don’t let partners stay, they even asked if he wanted dinner last night as they had some spare so we’ve been lucky by the sounds of it!

Mistymeow · 19/05/2023 07:59

Good luck to all the ladies in hospital. Sounds like there will be more babies arriving very soon!

@firsttimelondonmummy very similar to what happened with my first. They told me they couldn’t assume just because I’m a petite lady that genetically the baby would be the same, and she would thrive more outside of the womb. I took the c section at 37 weeks and had steroid injections before. In my situation it was the right call as the placenta, even though functioning well, was small, so baby wasn’t going to get any bigger on the inside. She caught up completely and no health issues at all (she’s 3 now!). But I would ask more questions and talk through your concerns.

BobbySD345 · 19/05/2023 08:13

@Ally1992 Yay it's all sounding good ! Did you manage some sleep before they started at 3am? If you're allowed to eat try and get plenty down you for energy ! X

Hlc86 · 19/05/2023 08:13

@BobbySD345 they said I have a 50/50 chance of going into preterm labour, with that test they do apparently it's not very accurate if it comes back positive so I'm kinda in limbo it seems, I have a midwife app today so will see what she says etc. How are you feeling? Did you manage to get some sleep?

@Ally1992 hope everything is going OK? Hopefully baby will arrive soon, looking forward to hearing your birth story

@Zaalfruit my midwife was very anti sweeps with my first I'm not sure why? And this one hasn't mentioned them yet but I'm guessing that will be at the later apps if I get to that stage
