Arrived at hospital for my ECV, midwife did a quick scan to check position and baby was head down, engaged, chin tucked in and back out, perfect! No ECV required. I can’t tell you how relieved I am.

Hlc86 · 16/05/2023 18:11

@dresslol ahh that's brilliant news!

Hey all,
So we went to the hospital today and since last week he’s dropped from the 12th to the 6th centile but as last weeks scan was a private scan they won’t take any notice of it.
I’ve got to go and see fetal medicine and have another scan (waiting for them to confirm when).
Hoping he’s just a small baby like I was 🤞🏻

We're in the same boat - private scan shows that baby has dropped from 16th to 6th centile. Luckily my hospital does pay attention to the private scans and because of last baby having the same issue and growth dropping I'm under the care of a consultant (although haven't seen them in a month - seeing them tomorrow and hoping they take it seriously - despite my history they can be quite dismissive). Are you seeing a consultant at any point? Ideally when growth slows you should be having doppler scans to check blood flow to baby. I don't mean to worry you but generally if growth is dropping centiles and not maintaining, it can indicate issues with the placenta rather than just a baby being "constitutionally small". Definitely push to see a consultant if you haven't been offered it. My son was delivered at 36 weeks as the dopplers showed issues with blood flow but although he was tiny (4lb 8) he was perfect. So far my dopplers have all looked good so hoping this one will make it a bit longer.

firsttimelondonmummy · 16/05/2023 20:18

@Hlc86 keeping everything crossed that’s the case 🤞🏻

@ireneadler101 they checked the cord blood flow yesterday and it was absolutely fine (bang in the middle on the charts they show you).
I am being scanned again tomorrow (they rang me today to tell me) by a fetal medicine doctor, is that what everyone classes as a consultant?
Hoping we can have a clearer discussion tomorrow as we really weren’t clear what the plan was after yesterday.

ireneadler101 · 16/05/2023 20:32

@firsttimelondonmummy Yes potentially, although if in doubt, ask whether you will be seeing one when you get there. Good news that the doppler is good, fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow. Or plan is also unclear but I suspect baby will be here before my planned c section at 39 weeks, hoping we'll get to 38 if dopplers continue to be good and growth doesn't slow down too much more.

C1umsyGiraffe · 16/05/2023 22:15

Currently at the hospital for reduced movements... obviously as soon as we're here and hooked up she goes crazy 🙄😂 I do wonder if one of the monitoring things is specifically to annoy the baby and make them move! Very reassuring though!

BobbySD345 · 16/05/2023 22:18

@C1umsyGiraffe this happens to me a lot. I get myself showered and ready to go in after 5 or so hours of being concerned and then in the car on the way or as soon as we arrive she's doing cartwheels 🤣

BobbySD345 · 16/05/2023 22:19

Has anyone had their belly measured and been charted over the 90th centile? The midwife doesn't seem concerned because im "following the line" but on my chart on the app I'm literally off the chart so I'm thinking surely this means excess fluid or baby is big. I want to know if she's big so I can consider options and noone is telling me anything or sending me for a scan. Might have to go private for reassurance this weekend.

ireneadler101 · 16/05/2023 22:42

Came downstairs a couple of hours ago to find my lovely cat in a terrible way. Rushed him to the emergency vets and we've had to make the super sad decision to put him to sleep and stop his suffering. I'm a mess! Now just hoping my night doesn't get any worse by going into labour or something from the shock!!

BobbySD345 · 17/05/2023 00:12

@ireneadler101 Sorry to hear this ❤️ poor kitty. Try and relax as I bet you've been worked up (understandably) x

rllrsk8 · 17/05/2023 03:26

@BobbySD345 yes! Bump has measured off the chart at every appointment. Around the 200th percentile! Literally off the chart.

First appointment midwife said don't worry, wait until next time and we'll check for a pattern. Second appointment, tracking the line but still way above it. Growth scan a week later showed everything was absolutely fine - baby was measuring around 50th percentile in size, fluid all fine, just a big bump! Had another growth scan yesterday at 37+4 and again everything absolutely fine.

So don't panic, just remember all bumps, bodies and babies are built differently. The measurement is just a guide.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 17/05/2023 08:11

My bump and bubs are both big and I'm only just 5ft! Also above the curve, but following the line.

I've been awake since 5.45, and DH left for work at 7.
So far since he left I have cleaned the kitchen, put on laundry and sorted the load done yesterday. Had to take a break now as my back won't take long stands any longer!

@ireneadler101 so sorry to hear about your cat. Ours is such a big part of life, I can't imagine going through putting him down while so stressed. You have my sympathy.

C1umsyGiraffe · 17/05/2023 10:45

@ireneadler101 I'm so sorry to hear this, wishing you all the best. I know how much our fur babies mean to us and can only imagine what you're going through, lots of love!

Belami · 17/05/2023 11:05

@ireneadler101 I'm so sorry to hear about your fur baby 😞 I can't imagine how much of a shock that was for you. They're such a big part of the family aren't they❤️ sending you a big hug xxx

firsttimelondonmummy · 17/05/2023 12:14

@ireneadler101 sorry to hear about your fur baby 💔

We had our fetal medicine scan today and baby’s blood to the brain, blood in my cord and blood to my uterus look fine!
We go back in 2 weeks and if he’s below the 4th centile we will be induced.
Keeping everything crossed he shows some growth between now and then 🤞🏻

Hello - I’m in the same boat. My external measurements didn’t actually indicate the baby was big, but I went for a private scan last week at 35+4 and the estimated weight was 7lbs 9oz. I took the scan to my hospital - they wanted to do their own 🙄 which I had today. Unsurprisingly, it was very similar to the private scan I’d already had! They also took a blood test to check my glucose levels to exclude the possibility of GD - result was normal. I would ask the midwife to refer you for a scan - if they refuse, you could always opt to have it done privately but hopefully they’ll agree? I had already decided I wanted a C section and have an appointment to get booked in for surgery tomorrow, but I’m even more certain in my choice now knowing she’s a big baby! It may inform how soon they book me. Let’s see. I also know these measurements are not always super accurate…

PrincessLeia22 · 17/05/2023 16:59

@BobbySD345
Sorry my post above is an answer to your question!

BobbySD345 · 17/05/2023 17:32

@PrincessLeia22 thank you for your reply! So your tummy was measuring big and you decided to do a private scan to check how big baby was? I'm going to ask on Monday for a growth scan. Tempted to play on having GD in last pregnancy and DS's tummy being big during that pregnancy, something they've never checked this time round. I think maybe I need to be more pushy !

PrincessLeia22 · 17/05/2023 18:31

@BobbySD345I was consistently measuring between the 50th and 90th centile, so bump isn’t visibly excessive! I just decided to book a scan for peace of mind - everything looks healthy with the baby, but she is on the larger side. Hence the additional NHS scan and blood test.

toomanysausages · 17/05/2023 20:55

@ireneadler101 awww, so sorry to hear about your poor cat :(

I had another meeting with a consultant today regarding my elective section. I had a scan before which apparently was another growth scan?? I said to sonographer that baby had measured smaller last time compared to the scan before and she said that because she was still in the average range for percentile and it wasn't an issue. I then mentioned it AGAIN when i went into the consultant meeting and the consultant said that she could see what I mean and that baby just was above 10th percentile so I am booked in for another scan to see that she is still following that curve. The scan is in 4 weeks though, 6 days before my section so not sure why they would check then as I can't see it making much of a difference. Considering baby is small my bump has always measured spot on during midwife appointments (having my fundal measurements taken) but in person I have had multiple people say I don't look as far long as I am or how "neat" my bump is.

firsttimelondonmummy · 17/05/2023 22:15

Evening all,

We met with fetal medicine today and they have said they want to induce in two weeks if he isn’t showing significant growth but I’m really hesitant being I am from a family of small babies.

Baby has basically dropped from the 50th centile ish on week 20-28 to the 12th in week 34 and now to the 6th in week 35.

Blood to his brain, cord blood, womb blood all perfectly normal.

Femur is in the 14th centile and HC in the 29th centile it’s just his AC that’s 6%

Just looking for some advice really….

DrinkingAllTheGin · 17/05/2023 23:03

37 weeks is considered full term. It may be that baby is better out than in at that point. Try not to worry until then.

PurBal · 18/05/2023 07:10

@firsttimelondonmummy I’m really glad they finally listened to you. I’d be asking why. What are they considering the benefits of induction given that baby looks healthy but small? Especially given it’s likely to be genetics. Is a small baby an indicator for induction for a particular reason? Eg is there anything they couldn’t pick up on the scan that could be an unknown risk? I don’t know the answers, but clarity might help in your decision making.

justbelieve · 18/05/2023 07:16

@firsttimelondonmummy no real advice except maybe use the BRAIN anagram to help you make the decision you feel more comfortable with. That’s what’s been recommended to me by my NCT instructor (sounds condescending, but hopefully it’s not): Benefits (what are the benefits of being induced in 2 weeks for baby and me?), Risks (what are the risks of being induced/not being induced), Alternatives (if I choose not to be induced is there alternative monitoring available, e.g. weekly CTGs instead?) Instincts (what’s your instinct telling you?), Nothing (what happens if I do nothing - not get induced/no alternatives or delay induction for another week etc)

It might be worth you having a look at the NICE guidelines for inductions due to growth scans.

Really hope that doesn’t sound condescending as I know you’ve probably thought about all of this already!

Hlc86 · 18/05/2023 09:56

@ireneadler101 so sorry to hear about your fur baby, they really are apart of the family and it's heartbreaking when they have to go 😔

@firsttimelondonmummy did you manage to talk through any of your concerns at all? 37 weeks is classed as full term but if you are hesitate then definitely ask to speak to someone in depth about it as only you can make that decision. With my little one her Hc is on the 20th her Ac is on the 10th and her femur is only on the 4th but they assure me it's not thing to worry about, but not worrying is easier said than done
