@BeaKind I know right. How dare me gain a few lb.
My chub goes straight on my belly which doesn't help as well.
Boyfriend gave me a pep talk in the car "just keep telling yourself that you're not pregnant"
"Oh ok, pull in Tesco and get me some Fags then"
"Well I didn't mean like that"
"Shut up then"

Alexandra07 · 19/03/2023 18:56

@VictoriaBlossom lol you are not in an easy situation, this pressure is terrible. I had my first one at 38! They tried the talk about babies and early on I stopped these conversations. They probably thought I would never have one at that point!
The Jamaica trip sounds amazing!

TealDreams · 19/03/2023 19:28

@OrionNebula I'm 11+3 and my nausea is so much worse now than it was before! X

TealDreams · 19/03/2023 19:31

@ttcttc I'm sure my midwife said 5 days either way is ok , have you had your booking appointment yet? You could always mention it then xx

DmcinT · 19/03/2023 19:32

@OrionNebula oh no I thought it would start to ease by that stage🙈 Are u finding anything helps?

iloveeggs · 19/03/2023 19:46

How long do the harmony test results take out of curiosity? I'm having mine done soon and forgot to ask.

OrionNebula · 19/03/2023 20:49

@TealDreams glad it's not just me although I guess I'm lucky that it hasn't been too bad up to now. @DmcinT last night the only thing that helped was going to bed and thankfully I felt much better in the morning. Bump popped out pretty much overnight too so not sure if that's related, maybe lots of stretching going on or something! Hope you both start to feel better soon!

Saturnsmoon · 19/03/2023 21:18

@Needtobuildabridge my 12 week scan is on Thursday too! I have my private nipt test tomorrow though which includes a scan so feeling quite nervous for that.

Ss32 · 19/03/2023 21:38

Ugh, we go on holiday this week and I’ve had such a meltdown trying on holiday clothes, nothing fits! Even bikinis because my boobs are like melons. I could barely eat for the first 20 weeks last pregnancy so didn’t have this fat in between stage, it’s depressing! Also, we haven’t told anyone yet so I just look plump to everyone!

VictoriaBlossom · 19/03/2023 21:42

@Alexandra07 I didn't want kids til I hit like 30. I always said there's enough unwanted ones in the world I'll just adopt if I wanted a child 😂
I think at 38 you're so much more awake to the world and have lived a different life compared to the 20 year old you.
Do you prefer being older as a mum or do you look back and think you'd rather be going through this at 20 odd?
I definitely know I wouldn't have achieved what I've got, career, home, savings, life experience, if I had chosen to have a child young. But also now time is not on my side I wonder if i should have had a child young!?

SnookyPook · 19/03/2023 23:27

@VictoriaBlossom I always grew up thinking I wanted to have 2 kids by the time I was 30. Life had other plans! Met my now Hubby when I was 27 and we were both about to embark on higher degrees etc. Several years on student budgets etc. We finally married and I had just turned 35 when I gave birth to our son. Which was a decade later than my younger self had hoped for. I'm now 37 expecting no.2. We have both said that in some ways we wish we'd met earlier and started a family younger. But then, I'm not really one for homing in on regrets. We wouldn't be the people we are without the life experiences we had. And I spent my 20s living abroad and experiencing some amazing opportunities etc. Although I'm an older Mum than I thought I'd be, at least I can make peace with the fact I've lived an exciting life and have lots of memories etc that I wouldn't have got to have. Life is what you make it I guess. If I had managed the family earlier I'm sure I'd have loved that too. The thing I'm most grateful for is that we didn't really struggle to conceive as I think that's the biggest danger when you come to it older. Just less time for things to go wrong etc.

I think we're lucky these days that it's not so unusual to be a slightly older Mum so I'm really not anticipating being mistaken for Grandma at the school gates etc... (Fingers crossed!!!)

mariamari · 20/03/2023 04:06

@SnookyPook thanks for sharing these reflections. I am 38 & while it’s been a slight worry, I don’t have any real regrets in terms of timing besides probably having less energy in my 40’s to handle kids than I would have in my 20/30s. I do have a lot more awareness & communication skills.

My husband and I met when we were in our 30’s, travelled, relocated, got dogs & then built a business.

It’s only now I feel we have capacity to welcome a child into our lives & give the focus, love & attention we’d wish for the little being. I’m happy to have got a lot out of my system before getting here but also recognise there’s been a cost to starting a family too.

Saturnsmoon · 20/03/2023 06:07

Just had a scan and my nipt test. Scan looked good, now we just have to wait for the blood results (5-7 working days). Think it’s going to feel like a long week…

Alexandra07 · 20/03/2023 06:46

@VictoriaBlossom I didn't want any children when younger and I always throught that I could adopt instead as there are so many waiting for a family. And then I realised how hard it is to adopt and hormones hit me mid-30s! 😂

I met my husband at 27, both of us studying for higher degrees abroad, we both relocated to England and retrained but at different times. I don't regret starting a family later in life because I had the chance to built my career and had amazing experiences that made me who I am, as others said. I wish we had started our family a couple of years later so that we wouldn't have had issues conceiving the second one. There were no issues conceiving the first one, but it took us two years and two MCs to conceive second one. I am 41 one now. Fingers crossed this one will stick, but I am sure we wouldn't have gone through this heartache if I was even a bit younger.

I was in the due august 2023 thread and it's surprising how many older mums are here compared to that thread!

Alexandra07 · 20/03/2023 06:47

Good luck to everyone expecting their nipt test results or having their scans!

No I have it next Tuesday. Sonographer was happy with the heartbeat and didn't tell me anything was wrong so hopefully as it is 5 days I'm ok. Can you "catch up" or have I made that up xx

LWestYorks · 20/03/2023 07:48

Morning ladies! Anyone super dizzy when waking up or know what it could be? I feel so so dizzy as soon as I wake…

TealDreams · 20/03/2023 08:29

@ttcttc mention to your midwife when you go. I'm sure they just said to me that using the CRL measurement can be up to 5 days either way because of many factors, how baby is laying, position of the sack, if it's internal or abdominal etc etc. they definitely told me 5 days either way is ok xx

ttcttc · 20/03/2023 08:46

Yeah will defo mention it, thanks.
There's so much to think about isn't there. I haven't had my 12 week scan through yet.: nhs is a bit behind in my area. Will just have to wait and see what happens then xx

AlongcameLainey · 20/03/2023 10:56

@katherine123x i busted out my maternity clothes over the weekend to get them washed and ready and officially wore a maternity dress to work today!

I cannot cope with tight trousers any longer 😂😂

I went to lunch yesterday and saw a friend on Saturday and everyone is already guessing - not sure if it is because it’s just second?

I definitely has bloating to start with but I don’t think it’s bloating now 😂

AlongcameLainey · 20/03/2023 10:56

Sorry should say: Not sure if it is because it’s my second child

katherine123x · 20/03/2023 11:21

@AlongcameLainey I've read a lot you show earlier in second pregnancy!!

The exhaustion here is still unbearable
Hats off to anyone doing this with little ones already!

katherine123x · 20/03/2023 11:23

Slightly embarrassing Q:
Has anyone DTD since finding out? I still haven't. Mainly due to being so tired I can barely see let alone do anything else. BUT wanting to know if anyone has? I've read everywhere it's safe but I just don't know. It feels weird 😂😂

TealDreams · 20/03/2023 11:35

@katherine123x I'm 11 weeks and still haven't 🙈🙈 too scared!!

Mldn · 20/03/2023 11:37

@katherine123x nope! Way too scared. Even though the potential spotting afterwards is said to be normal & nothing to worry about, I’d freak out so much seeing anything on the loo roll! I’m too scared to wee at the minute let alone anything else 😂
