@monsteramunch my mouthful of rare steak was absolutely incredible as well 😂.

We all worry, I'm also a mad worrier, but I work in food biology so I do know the risks with these foods.

Also wanna point out we must always wash our veg, friend of mine got staphylococcus and she's vegan.... the tough conversation we had about what's spread on the land to help veg grow freaked her out

LWestYorks · 24/03/2023 21:05

So I’ve been put on ferrous fumerate tablets for my low iron stores, currently on day 3 and I feel horrific - so nauseas and my stomach is making all sorts of strange noises! Any tips? I’ve read that these tablets can make your sickness worse so I’m unsure what to do.

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 24/03/2023 21:07

"@Desperado123 my nausea and vomiting peaked at week 9, but im now 10+4 and have gone a whole week without vomiting, im even starting to feel a bit more human again other than the exhaustion. I know it's not the same for everyone but there is light at the end of the tunnel

Chanteuse · 24/03/2023 22:12

@LWestYorks try taking the tablets with pure orange juice - it helps them absorb better and I found when I was on them (for my endo) I had less side effects when I took them with orange juice.

Is anyone else’s skin dreadful? My face is hideous at the moment, covered in spots and I’m basically growing a beard 😩 feel like a greasy teenager and it’s getting me down 😥

Ss32 · 24/03/2023 22:53

I’ve been eating parma ham for weeks, I had no idea we couldn’t eat it, I’m sure I ate it all last pregnancy too! And smoked salmon 🙈 I am no good at being pregnant, I keep forgetting! My 12 week scan isn’t until next week and I really wish it would hurry up as I feel so well, compared to my last pregnancy, that it really worries me!

VictoriaBlossom · 24/03/2023 23:15

@Ss32 why can't we eat Parma ham?

Saturnsmoon · 24/03/2023 23:55

@VictoriaBlossom thanks for the aspirin suggestion, I actually ended up eating something and the headache subsided so I think I was probably a bit low on sugar or salt.

@NSx I have the same with water - I’m so thirsty but drinking (a lot of) water makes me feel 🤢. I was wondering whether maybe using a little bit of squash would help but haven’t actually tried it yet.

Saturnsmoon · 25/03/2023 00:05

@iloveeggs Fully appreciate you wanting to wait a little longer until you tell your (new) employer however what I would say is that I think from the moment you tell them you are pretty well protected by law so they would struggle to get rid of you because you were off sick. I also think you might be pleasantly surprised by how well they take it/how supportive they are. I’ve had several friends who found out they were pregnant weeks into starting a new job and were worried about how their employers would respond but each was met with nothing but support and kindness. Hope it’s the same for you when you do decide to share 😊

Morning all, had my booking appointment yesterday and midwife was really lovely. Made me feel good about choice of hospital as different to where I delivered last time (which was ok for pregnancy and delivery but postnatal ward was AWFUL). I
've just squeaked in to being classed as low risk on both age and BMI, but she said they'll have a detailed discussion closer to time because I had a bleed postnatally. Consultant would also like to see me in a few weeks to scan and check about my possibly weirdly shaped uterus. For those that remember that I was stressing about my first scan being in the fetal medicine unit, apparently it's just where they do all the 12 week scans!
Anyway, feel like I will be well taken care of!

Jealousofchiliheeler · 25/03/2023 06:27

In other news I am DREADING today, it's DCs birthday party, which was arranged before I became pregnant. So we will have an afternoon of 20+ screaming kids in a hall, with set up and putting it down, and I've woken up with DC's cold which feels pretty vile.
Family have all declined to help which is.... pretty typical for them, they like to say they'd love to help but then always find excuses not to. None of them know I'm pregnant yet (we don't want them to yet because they were all for different reasons very annoying and brought a lot of drama to the situation) so in some respects they don't know the full situation why we need help, but I'm feeling irritated and hormonal this morning!
DC however is being delightful and just offered to help me blow up balloons! 😍

NSx · 25/03/2023 06:41

@Saturnsmoon for me full fat coke seems to work 😭 any diet or ‘sweetened’ fizzy drinks make me feel 🤢 and so does water Im dying here

@Chanteuse meee, my skin is rough at the minute

VanillaOat · 25/03/2023 07:23

@Chanteuse my skin had a spell of being awful last week but it’s calmed down a bit now! Definitely not ‘glowing’

Ss32 · 25/03/2023 07:25

VictoriaBlossom · 24/03/2023 23:15

@Ss32 why can't we eat Parma ham?

Apparently because it’s a cured meat so still has risk of parasites and toxoplasmosis

VictoriaBlossom · 25/03/2023 08:27

@Ss32 yeah maybe if you bought it off the street in Brazil but all cured meat sold in supermarkets is swabbed nowadays.
Toxo is such a nasty infection though, stay away from cat litter trays too

Cammy23 · 25/03/2023 09:08

I read somewhere smoked salmon was OK to eat. But I can't remember why. I know we are not supposed to have raw seafood. But for some reason the processing makes smoked salmon OK apparently. I would double check before having, but definitely read it somewhere.

Chanteuse · 25/03/2023 09:21

@NSx @VanillaOat its awful isn’t it! Glad to hear yours has calmed down.

I think I’ve noticed it more because I generally have quite clear skin, with the exception of a few spots, whereas there are so many blemishes on my face it’s really noticeable for me 😪

NSx · 25/03/2023 09:24

@Chanteuse the texture of my skin is like clogged pores/bumpy and I keep getting spots it’s bloody awful and apparently caused by hormones 😭

Chanteuse · 25/03/2023 09:43

@NSx same! Really strange texture and I have loads of redness and blotches 😩 I also have about 6 BLACK chin hairs 😐😐 how I love being a woman 😂

NSx · 25/03/2023 09:58

@Chanteuse i feel bloody ugly 😂😅 but hoping it will pass when the placenta kicks in 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
I’ve read Sunday Riley glycolic acid is really good but it’s so pricey so I’m still on the fence about buying it x Sunday Riley Good Genes

LWestYorks · 25/03/2023 10:17

@Chanteuse thank you - my nausea’s is 100x worse and I’m pretty sure it’s from the iron tablets. I’ve read about that spatone which is a lot gentler and don’t know if to give that a try. I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus over the last few days 😞

Ss32 · 25/03/2023 10:18

I’ve happily munched on both anyway, I’m on holiday so if I can’t have cocktails, I’m at least going to munch on some parma ham 😂
My skin was awful before 10 weeks but seems to have evened out to back to normal (I’ve never had great skin although it was amazing in my last pregnancy). Is anyway using all their little pregnancy symptoms to guess if it’s a boy or a girl?

Oh I feel for you! I'm doing the same today but IN MY HOUSE! I am so looking forward for the day to be over!

NSx · 25/03/2023 10:21

@Ss32 im 9 +4 and it’s still shit 😂 (my skin that is) it was awful last year too when I was pregnant and that was a girl (she didn’t make it though)

so I’m thinking this too might be a girl, what was your last baby?

CB23CB · 25/03/2023 10:51

Morning everyone

Been feeling terribly anxious the past few days.
I had a miscarriage in Jan and got pregnant again quickly.
I'm got my booking appointment on Thursday and it feels like I've waited forever.
Over the past few days I sort of feel like I'm not pregnant any more, I don't know. I've had a loss of some symptoms and I've really been worrying about it.
I stupidly took a test this morning, god knows why. And although it turned positive straight away, the line isn't a dye stealer like the ones I did weeks ago.
I just don't know what to do. I don't want to go for a private scan because my husbands away with work for the next fortnight. I feel sick with worry.
Sorry for the rambling!

LaVitesse2022 · 25/03/2023 10:57

@CB23CB I presume you're around 10 weeks if you've had your booking appt? That's usually the time symptoms start to ease. It's when the placenta takes over so you're not being flooded by the hormones like before. Try not to worry.
