@unluckyinlife I tried really hard with colostrum harvesting and did have a midwife who was very supportive of it, yet I still couldn’t get anything at all. This is some people’s experience unfortunately, although others have great success with it so it’s definitely worth a try. I also found some of the videos on YouTube helpful although don’t recall which ones now.

@UsernameNotPresent yip I’m pretty sure it’s just over 28 weeks or if you’re having twins and look huge so may have an issue with them not believing you’re less than 28 weeks! I highly doubt anyone is going to be insensitive enough to comment on that though if that was the case 🙈

JT2021 · 09/03/2023 21:36

@UsernameNotPresent it depends who you are flying with. I’m flying with BA in a couple of weeks time and they require a standard letter from midwife or doctor to confirm if it’s a single or multiple pregnancy, if I am good health and also my due date. I mentioned this at my 16 week appt and I am seeing the midwife next week so she can do some standard checks on me again and write up the letter for me.

UsernameNotPresent · 09/03/2023 22:16

Just checked with the airline, and it's up to 36 weeks without medical certificate, but you need to do self completed form. I don't know why I haven't thought of it until few days before departure. I blame pregnancy brain. Hopefully should be fine.

AnnieApple123 · 09/03/2023 19:58

Oh bad luck @EsmeSusanOgg . Do you know about this book? I’ve heard very positive things about it and the work its author Lily Nichols has done on gestational diabetes generally. I have her other pregnancy nutrition book.

She’s also written about dates in fact! I tried them last time although it’s a slightly controversial idea due to their effect in blood sugar. My obstetrician’s husband is diabetic and I’ll be interested to pick her brains on this one.

It's a quirk of dates that they don't have the same effect on blood sugars as most fruits... Despite being very sweet.

I need to check what I need for BA in early May. Should be fine at 25 weeks .. but I had quite a big bump at that point with DC1... So not sure they'll believe me.

JT2021 · 09/03/2023 23:07

@EsmeSusanOgg I will be 20 weeks when flying with BA and I have a little bump already so just taking my letter and hospital notes in case I am asked. Not sure if they will ask tbh… I remember flying during covid and panicked about printing covid passes etc… no one wanted to see them and seemed to believe you were vaccinated without proof😂

According to that author the blood sugar spike caused can still be quite problematic though. She’s written about it at length in the link below. I haven’t read about it in detail recently and need to look over it again soon as a refresher.

@JT2021 This must be a new development with BA then because I flew with them at 30 weeks pregnant with DS2 and nobody bat an eyelid.

@UsernameNotPresent i've flown a good 10+times whilst at various stages of pregnancy and I've yet to ever be asked for any documentation. Take a note from midwife if you can but I doubt enormously that they'll even ask for it.

unluckyinlife · 10/03/2023 08:13

Thanks for all the advise on colostrum . I spent most the evening reading into it. It was really helpful. I think I'm going to give it a try at 37 weeks.

In terms of BA and flying, they required a firvto fly letter from me at 26 weeks and told me I couldn't fly after 28 weeks. This was in 2018 uncomplicated single pregnancy at this point. However I wore baggy clothes at the airport and nobody even questioned it!

I made my first 'big' Purchase for baby last night. A moses basket bundle with a stand and blanket. As mentioned previously my husband will work away for the weekdays until the baby is 9 months so I wanted a moses basket for downstairs so I didn't have to transport one up and downstairs when I'm alone with the 3 kids and the dogs!

I'm sure my husband will be less than impressed as the house Purchase is still moving forward and he wanted to wait until we moved to Purchase anything for the baby. However we'll have to buy new sofas beds and everything else and we still have no estimated completion date so it was really stressing me out 😅

I've decided I'm going to put my deposit down for a travel system today and pay in small installments and they will deliver it at 37 weeks. (Hopefully in the new house by then!) We offered mid Feb, so I'm hoping we'll be in by June/July which will tie in nicely with the school terms. Since they need to move schools as we're moving 3.5 hours away 😅

overwork · 10/03/2023 08:28

Oh no I was only looking at the BA website last night and I thought it said they'd accept pregnant passengers up to 36 weeks, I'd finally found something we fancied and was hoping to fly out at 28 weeks, back at 30. I very much suspect I'll resemble a baby hippo by then so I think I'd need a letter from my midwife just to prove I'm not actually at term!

honeymirabella · 10/03/2023 10:21

@BCxx congratulations to you too! So lovely to have a due date twin 💖💖

I am 17 weeks now and getting a bump. I had a decent bump at 20 weeks with DC1. Will be 25 weeks flying..

They will! 36 weeks for single pregnancy, 32 weeks for multiples. But they like you to have a midwife letter confirming due date etc.

DesertSnow · 10/03/2023 15:17

Welcome @honeymirabella and congrats on your little girl! I've added your name to my list and will update on here when I next do it.

@EsmeSusanOgg sorry to hear about the gestational diabetes. I know you had it before, but do you mind me asking if you had any symptoms this time around? I have my test in April and it's something I'm concerned about.

My line manager swears by raspberry leaf tea towards the end of pregnancy!

overwork · 10/03/2023 16:09

Oh great thanks @EsmeSusanOgg. I have a midwife apt a few weeks before we're hoping to fly so I'll ask for a letter then.
I also have my GDM test in April @DesertSnow and I'm also worried about the results. My diets dreadful though so I'm half expecting it. I love fruit and veg and fish but I also really love bread and chocolate. And chocolate biscuits. And chocolate cake...

Oh tons. Super thirsty and tired.

Though that can be put down to pregnancy. It's just my fasting results (again) I pass the horrible drink test.

Rowanandremy · 10/03/2023 22:28

Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve been on, it’s been a hectic few weeks.

Welcome to everyone new and congratulations to everyone who has found out the gender of their baby.

Re weight, it’s been a worry of mine because I was 2 stone heavier than I would have liked to be when we got pregnant. The clinic weren’t fussed but it was something I wasn’t pleased with. With dd I lost a fair bit of weight and carried on losing throughout pregnant (not drastic weight loss) and that appears to be happening now. I do need to weigh myself again as it’s been a while but I know I’ve lost even if the scales don’t show it because I tried a shirt on today that hasn’t fit in a while and it not only fit but I had some room to move 😂

it’s so interesting to hear the thoughts on raspberry leaf tea, I was interested in it last time but my midwife recommended I stay away as it can cause heavier blood loss and wasn’t shown to help much in labour. As it was I had a quick labour so I wasn’t broken hearted at not using it 😂

I did harvest colostrum as I didn’t want to breast feed but wanted to give dd a boost if I could. I can’t remember when I started but I think it was after 35 weeks and I didn’t have dd until I was 38 +6, my midwife said I could have started to harvest earlier as it was highly unlikely it would cause early labour.

Im jealous of all the wonderful sounding holidays, I’m absolutely terrified of flying so haven’t been abroad in an absolute age but I would love a holiday right now

newmummie · 11/03/2023 20:35

Does anyone still experience a crampy tummy? Tummy has been quite crampy today and sore when I move, don't want to freak out too much but things definitely feel uncomfortable in there

LBF2020 · 11/03/2023 20:58

@newmummie I've been suffering with cramp like pains in the last few weeks. I've worked out it's actually congestion - it's like when you have a long haul flight and you get a bit blocked up (although i'm not really constipated) sorry for tmi 🤣 Do you think it could be this for you?
I've started taking a pregnancy probiotic and things seem better!

BCxx · 11/03/2023 22:06

@newmummie ive been like that today.. I think sometimes it can be your stomach but it’s so hard to tell where it’s coming from.

Ive had pains from early on in pregnancy when I go to stand up from sitting on the sofa. Pretty much every time I need to stop and even bend forwards sometimes until it passes, it’s like a tight feeling in both sides low down but I’m guessing it’s something to do my section scar stretching

sommeliermama · 12/03/2023 00:03

So I had a private scan today at 17+1 and found out I'm having a girl! Honestly would have been so happy with either a boy or a girl but now I've found out I'm over the moon. I feel like I can bond so much more with her now.

Also feel like my bump is getting really big really fast at the minute.

BCxx · 12/03/2023 05:07

@sommeliermama congratulations on your girl 💕 I like to know the sex to be able to say ‘he/she’, it feels weird that up to now I’ve been calling her the baby or it and I find myself still doing it now all the time

newmummie · 12/03/2023 08:49

Thank you both for your replies, I thought maybe it was constipation but the pains were still there after going to the loo.... my sickness has recently stopped but last night I woke up out of my sleep being seriously ill, couldn't stop boking & then I woke up out of my sleep this morning with the pains.. & today I feel seriously nauseous like I did in the first trimester. I think it may be round ligament pain, & baby just growing.. 18weeks today, just hope baby is okay in there 🤍
