@unluckyinlife sorry you're having such a rubbish day! I hope you start to feel better soon! It's definitely not your fault, growing humans is really hard work!!!! I bet so many of us can relate to how you're feeling.

My nausea has begun to ease now at 17 weeks I think, but its still there. I am also incredibly tired, its really getting to me. I need 9-10 hours sleep a night to even barely function and I'm so de motivated and tired on the days I'm at work (and every day that I'm home with my 2 year old tbh!) I honestly feel like I've been in survival mode this entire pregnancy. I'm finding it so hard to make decisions etc at work and also finding I'm getting overwhelmed really easily. Even had to finally stop my toddlers swimming lessons at the end of this month, because im just finding them too much to deal with alone, the heat of the pool and low BP isn't mixing well 🙄 You're not alone, it's super tough! But hang on in there we're gonna get through it.

I managed to start feeling better yesterday luckily. I'm a lot kinder to myself this time round so in the end did what I had to for my meetingx and then curled up in the sofa! I was in bed by 8.30 last night!

My 4 and 6 year old go swimming on Wednesdays and I hate my hour of pure nausea due to the heat. Ive found a sugary drink helps me feel more human!

This pregnancy has been the easiest in terms of symptoms but hardest in terms of how much I've got going on. I've started feeling like a bit of a rubbish mum and had a bit of a wobble Las night but my DH has been strangely understanding and made me feel so much better this morning xx

BMK · 09/03/2023 15:00

@Amme18 same as myself: what date? Mine is March 24th which feels like it will never come given that I didn't have any since 13 weeks and really want to know the gender. @AnnieApple123 yes I would be interested in the placenta capsules!(*meant to look into thid previously but didn't manage to!) Is it just good for us to take ie putting back in what came out,or..?
Also re Covid,I also had it in first Trimester and was as BC said, just like normal flu/cold etc.

Hello ladies

I would love to join the chat. I am currently 16+3 and due a baby girl on 21 August.

I have a DS who is 4 and had two early MC between him and this pregnancy. For that reason I have been very hesitant about telling anyone this time. But I had a scan this morning that looked good so I am going to be brave and share the news with family this weekend and work next week!

Big hug to everyone 💞

AnnieApple123 · 09/03/2023 15:56

Welcome @honeymirabella ! I totally understand your hesitation. What a relief it must be that all seems well now.

@BMK I opted for placenta smoothies last time but really don’t have any desire to do that again(!). I’ve been looking at a company called Placenta Practice who seem to be as safe and well-regulated as they get. I’m going to ask my doctor next time I see her whether she has any views on it as she seems very enlightened about this kind of thing. I’ll let you know what she says.

As for weight, our scale battery has gone so I’ve not weighed myself in quite a while now. Need to get a new one… So different from my last pregnancy when I made a whole weight chart.

Had anyone here tried raspberry leaf tea in previous pregnancies? To have a smoother & faster birth? Or know anyone who has? I've read a lot ab it & apparently it works wonders, so deffo want to start drinking it at 32 weeks, anyone tried it?

AnnieApple123 · 09/03/2023 17:19

@newmummie Yes I drank raspberry leaf tea last time from 32 weeks. I used to like it chilled in the fridge. I had a ridiculously long labour but that was due to having a posterior baby. I’d do it again this time.

OP posts:
allgoodthings84 · 09/03/2023 17:29

@newmummie I didn’t but my neighbour did and she had a really long labour and had the worst kind of tear you can get (right from front to back) as the actual pushing stage happened too quick causing the tear. I doubt the tea made it worse though it would have been other factors.

I have read it’s great for a lot of people and certainly can’t harm

Amme18 · 09/03/2023 17:47

@BMK 24th here too!! Although we don’t want to find out so here’s hoping we don’t cave 🤣

newmummie · 09/03/2023 18:00

Thank you for sharing your experiences with me, I think I'll give it a go just to see!!

newmummie · 09/03/2023 18:01

Also find out the gender on the 24th!! I'm sooo excited, sonographers assistant told me at 13 weeks she would put money on it it's a boy, and the other assistant agreed 🥹so I'm thinking boy

allgoodthings84 · 09/03/2023 18:02

@newmummie it’s definitely worth a go. After my last birth I would definitely try it this time if I wasn’t having an ELCS

AnnieApple123 · 09/03/2023 18:03

@allgoodthings84 Your poor neighbor! I feel similarly that there wasn’t realistically any scope for RLT to change anything significantly in my situation, although in different circumstances there may possibly have been. Who knows really? It seems worth a try, especially as the tea is quite tasty anyway and easy to get hold of.

@Amme18 I’m also really hoping not to cave!

I did in both my previous pregnancies and had fairly quick labour's. My son's I went from 2cm to baby in arms in less than 30 minutes. With my daughter I went in at 11pm due to a bleed but no contractions, they started around midnight and she was born at 6am. I don't think it was the raspberry leave tea that did it however as both labour's were triggered by another old wife's tale,DTD!😅

allgoodthings84 · 09/03/2023 18:12

@AnnieApple123 it must have been very traumatic for her. She’s only ever had the one child. I was due 6 weeks after her so was scared after hearing that 😮 she held back too until after I had my daughter then she told me all the details. Anything that may help is worth a try

BCxx · 09/03/2023 18:23

@honeymirabella congratulations! Due date twin and I’m also having a girl 😊

EsmeSusanOgg · 09/03/2023 18:34

Got the call to say I have gestational diabetes. Had it with DC1 5 years ago... So this is not a surprise. But could my body have not held out u til after Mother's Day and Easter?

CityKity · 09/03/2023 18:34

@BMK @Amme18 @newmummie my 20 week scan is the 24th too! I’ll be 21+3 and it seems like I’ve been waiting ageeeeees for this one.
We’re not finding out gender but I’m really excited to see how the baby’s cooking and take it all in a bit more, I think I was a bit shell shocked at the 12 week scan!

somuchtolearnabout · 09/03/2023 19:09

@AnnieApple123 I did placenta plus with both the boys and am doing it again this time. I really rated the service, it was very organised and I really didn't get involved at all - they dealt entirely with the hospital to collect it and a few days later the capsules were on my doorstep. Not heard of the other company but would def recommend placenta plus

@newmummie I also drank raspberry leaf tea with both previous pregnancies. First I was induced but it was smooth as far as inductions go (I was induced at 6pm and he was born the next day at 3pm). Second boy my labour was about 3h. No idea if the tea had anything to do with it but it was quite nice so I was happy to drink it!

EsmeSusanOgg · 09/03/2023 19:19

Dates! There's some peer-reviewed research that indicates eating dates in the third trimester helps reduce tearing.

BCxx · 09/03/2023 19:45

As I had a section booked last time and it was near the end of the 39th week I did the opposite of all the old wives tales of how to go into labour 😂 I really wanted to do colostrum harvesting and did try it a few times after about 38 weeks but then my midwife said it could put me into labour so I stopped in a panic. I want to try it again but someone on my Facebook just had her baby at 37 weeks and had just started colostrum harvesting a few days before.. could be total coincidence but it worries me 🙈

AnnieApple123 · 09/03/2023 19:58

Oh bad luck @EsmeSusanOgg . Do you know about this book? I’ve heard very positive things about it and the work its author Lily Nichols has done on gestational diabetes generally. I have her other pregnancy nutrition book.

She’s also written about dates in fact! I tried them last time although it’s a slightly controversial idea due to their effect in blood sugar. My obstetrician’s husband is diabetic and I’ll be interested to pick her brains on this one.

@somuchtolearnabout Thanks, I’ve just looked at Placenta Plus. They seem very similar. I might ask the hospital if they have any preference in who they deal with. Someone who can do all the liaison with them sounds ideal.

I've looked into colostrum harvesting but do not understand it at all! My milk came in really late with my second pregnancy and I really want to do everything for it to work better this time so imagine I'll give this a try. Just have no idea where to look for info. My midwifes were useless when I asked about it previously.

BCxx · 09/03/2023 20:55

@unluckyinlife it seems to be a bit of a lottery with midwives and the colostrum harvesting thing. The ones on YouTube were so encouraging but when I mentioned it to mine she was basically like nah itl put you into labour, I wouldn’t bother. So I then didn’t get on well with breastfeeding. I did manage to get the technique quite well from YouTube videos though but I might just try it a few days before this time and then after birth if I want to do the syringes. I’m hoping to express and give a bottle of formula or two alongside it, it’s what I wanted to do last time but wasn’t prepared enough then just abandoned it 🙈

UsernameNotPresent · 09/03/2023 21:19

I've done colostrum harvesting last pregnancy quite successfully... But then completely forgot I had a stash when DS actually arrived and just cracked on with breastfeeding 🙈😬 I've also done dates, RLT, bouncing on the exercise ball. Went into labour successfully, but then needed semi-elective C section due to DS size (it's a long story).

For those who are flying on holidays soon, we don't need a midwife letter for airline company, do we?! I am going on holiday this Sunday and suddenly it's dawned on me they may need proof of EDD. Apparently it's only after 28 weeks, so technically should still be fine. Would electronic obs notes suffice in case they ask? I feel I've left it too late..
