@muminlndn let us know how you get on ❤️

Cuppasoupmonster · 22/02/2023 12:11

@TeddyBeans he was 5lb6 at 32+4 according to last scan! DD was 6lb5 at 37+0 when she was born! 😬 He’s on track to be 8ish at 37.. glad I’m not going to term 😱

TeddyBeans · 22/02/2023 12:38

@Cuppasoupmonster oh crumbs! A little hippo indeed! 🥰

OP posts:
Franklin321 · 22/02/2023 12:45

I wouldn’t worry too much about measurements, mine is estimated to be about 9lbs at 39 weeks (delivery scheduled) based on growth scans but 11lbs based on fundal measurements 🙃 although I wouldn’t want to push that out as the thought is pure terror I have heard anecdotally that bigger babies are easier to birth because of gravity 😅

Im excited to see where she falls on the scale and whether they’ve estimated correctly at all!

Cuppasoupmonster · 22/02/2023 12:54

I am as well! My gut says they’re about right - they were spot on with DD down to the ounce, but we’ll see. 8lb doesn’t faze me but pushing 9 does 😬 I was over 9 when I was born so there’s probably a genetic element there in addition to the diabetes.

Franklin321 · 22/02/2023 13:00

@Cuppasoupmonster oh yeh they weren’t too far off with my son so I’m expecting this one to be bigger 😆 me and my husband were both over 9lbs so I think we just make chunky babies too!

JTB123 · 22/02/2023 14:06

I've come up today for reduced movements as felt little miss very little today and I haven't had the toddler to run around after!! - 39 weeks and waiting for dr to discuss induction if I want it.

What induction options are there? I've heard about the balloon and is it the pessary?

TeddyBeans · 22/02/2023 14:12

@JTB123 balloon, pessary and gel I think are your main options. If they can, they might attempt an ARM instead but that depends on if your cervix is open at all and whether they can reach your waters. I had the pessary last time and it did work after 12 or so hours. The back ache was very intense though, I couldn't sit still for more than a couple of minutes. My trust has switched to the balloon as preferred method now as it's the only non hormonal option and they found a lot of women were being hyper stimulated by the hormonal options

I imagine they will give me some leaflets anyway to look at options! Need to have a look and then make a decision. X

allthingssparkly · 22/02/2023 14:36

My consultant said the only option she will give me if I go for induction is the balloon method due to my asthma, I think it's fairly new isn't it? I certainly don't recall it when I had my previous children, I just had the pessary then both times. Hopefully the hormone free method is just as beneficial 🤞

allthingssparkly · 22/02/2023 14:37

Keep us posted @JTB123 Hope you are ok x

I was offered the balloon last time (2021) at 40+2, but I didn't get as far as reading the leaflets before my waters broke and I had heavy contractions whilst waiting to be induced 🤣👌

Cats23 · 22/02/2023 15:05

@TeddyBeans my waters broke at the village hall watching 'Shrek 3' 🤣

I was induced with Dc3 & told them if they broke my waters, Id likely have a quick delivery as when waters went naturally woth Dc2, he was born within 3hrs.
They broke waters with Dc3 , he was born within an hr ( no other intervention and no signs of labour bwfore) I asked the same for dc 4 & they didnt, they did the pessary....10hrs later with contractions, they finally agreed to break waters and she came within 30mins!
Im hoping to insist on waters to be broken this time again before anything!

JTB123 · 22/02/2023 15:25

I've just had a sweep, less brutal than I thought! - I'm 2cm. Induction has been offered for 4pm tomorrow, so will see what happens x

muminlndn · 22/02/2023 15:29

@TeddyBeans thanks!
Still on machine after over an hour as had a couple of dips in heart rate. Felt baby move loads though on way here and while here, typically...
Also got a bonus cervix check as my braxton hicks are coming up quite strong on the monitor 😅 All good though still closed (currently 36+4) and no early labour.

BabyLimey · 22/02/2023 16:40

I really recommend the ‘Is it normal?’ Podcast for explaining induction options, I was listening to it on my walk yesterday and it was really insightful. It’s episode 21, week 38 of pregnancy

Moonicorn · 22/02/2023 16:49

Induction methods/success really depends most of the time on how far along you are and whether you’ve had a baby vaginally before - induction for overdue generally only takes a pessary, if it’s an early induction for example 37-39 weeks then usually pessary to open cervix slightly before popping the waters and then the drip.

I had all of that plus a balloon in between which I don’t think is that commonly used, it does the same thing as a pessary but mechanically rather than hormonally. If it helps I didn’t feel it’s insertion at all, they gave me gas and air.

But it was my first baby and only 36 weeks, so it’s not surprising really!

Do bear in mind that induction at 39/40 weeks reduces the need for a C-section which is more likely at 41/42 weeks. That may not matter to you one bit, but just in case it does!

muminlndn · 22/02/2023 17:24

Had a scan after the heart rate dips on the monitor and they're not happy with the blood flow measurements. Been moved up to labour ward! Hopefully a bit more monitoring and then can be sent home with a csection booked in the next couple of days...
Definitely not prepared or ready physically or mentally 😅 Think they're v busy today so in labour ward as precaution until a doc can do a proper assessment and make a recommendation

AK93 · 22/02/2023 17:54

@muminlndn fingers crossed all is sorted soon. It’s good they are being cautious, hope you are able to have some sense of calm that they are monitoring and not too much panic xx

JTB123 · 22/02/2023 18:04

Had a bit of pink blood with my first wee after the sweep and just small cramps!

They offer the balloon induction first here and then move onto the pessary if that doesn't work or you still need more inducting! Fingers crossed something happens overnight and I don't need either lol

Must all feel very real now! Hope a plan is made ASAP then you can run around like a headless chicken getting everything ready! 💐

I’ve just washed the last of the baby clothes and put them on the dryer, still nagging DH to get the pram down but hoping he will do that tonight. Baby’s crib is this one so no assembling required really and DH can do it when I’m in hospital:

amp.direct.asda.com/george/baby/travel-cots/hauck-dreamer-multi-dots-sand/050214921,default,pd.html

Only thing is the car seat. The one we had for DD was part of a silver cross travel system, but for some reason it sat her too upright so her head flopped forwards whenever she was in it, so I spent a few journeys in the back holding it up 🙄 we need to buy a new one really but DH is insisting there’s nothing wrong with it and we just didn’t fit it properly last time. Does anyone have any recommendations for a fairly cheap car seat please?

Tomorrow going to wash and sterilise my hand pump as I found that invaluable in hospital last time!

JTB123 · 22/02/2023 18:39

@Cuppasoupmonster I bought a joie juva for my 1st just to bring home from hospital but I used for about a year and holidays abroad up until 13 months so was worth it for me! - only about £40-50.

There are definitely more supportive ones out there like there is with everything but it was a great little buy just for the hospital trip x
