@TeddyBeans Good luck with your sweep!

Btw am I the only person who doesn’t want the baby to come yet? I’m 36W today and I need her to stay put until 40W and ideally 4 days over due to line up with DH’s school holiday. He only gets 1 weeks paid leave so if baby comes early we would have to take some unpaid leave 😬

I'm with you. 36+ 3 and hoping baby stays put til at least 39 weeks. DH has annual leave booked for 20/3 could make do if baby is only a week early.

Dc1 was born 37+4 and dc2 was 38+6 so hoping this one decides to follows the pattern and comes a little later

havananana · 20/02/2023 16:31

I hope my baby stays in for 1 more week as we have a scan next Tuesday and I would like to go into labour knowing that she's got enough amniotic fluid, everything looks good, etc

Perexi · 20/02/2023 16:42

Yeah I'm happy for him to stay in until my scan on the 3rd as if something happened now it would be an emergency c-section and I'd rather not 😂 although all the girls at NCT seem to have had or are having early births so we're really excited for him to arrive once it's safe to do so 🥰🥰

Room4onemore · 20/02/2023 16:42

Taken my daughter shopping this morning and got the rest of my things for my hospital bag so I’m finishing that tonight

SammyJay5 · 20/02/2023 16:42

Just back from our 38 week midwife appointment. Baby girl hasn’t engaged any further than the last appointment 2 weeks ago, although midwife said because of how low baby and bump were at that appointment she actually thought I’d have given birth by now!
Signs of infection in my urine for the 3rd time so that’s being sent off to the lab. The last 2 times it’s come back as no infection and they’ve said it’s most likely that the sample has some discharge in it.
Sweep booked for 2 weeks today when I’ll be 40+3 but I’m hoping she will be here by then 🤞🏼

Dreamingof3 · 20/02/2023 16:53

@Rose429 makes complete sense that you'd want baby to stay in a bit longer!

I'm happy to go to full term, however I know I'm looking at another section if things don't start moving on their own before then. I'm only 36+1 so not rushing her out but if she's ready to come in the next 2 or 3 weeks I'm not complaining 😂

iratepirate · 20/02/2023 16:57

@Rose429 ideally after this week would be good, as I have some immovable work things to finish off.

Cuppsoupmonster · 20/02/2023 16:58

A lot of early babies around! I’m 34 weeks on Friday, don’t want him to arrive just yet as he’ll be smoked out at 37 anyway, and before that is preterm so no labour pool and extra formalities around everything. But 🤷🏼‍♀️ on the upside it would mean no induction! Every cloud…

TeddyBeans · 20/02/2023 17:09

Home! (Had to pop to shops after the appointment) Wow. That was an experience 😬 I'm going to be brutally honest, it wasn't pleasant in the slightest. More uncomfortable than painful but it wasn't far off - had to breathe through it. Almost 2cm dilated already, cervix is about 2cm thick as well so it's thinned a bit which is good. She said she did a really good sweep fucking felt like it too and baby's head is low. All sounds rather positive. Bishop score of 4.5 which Google says isn't that good but I'll take it at 39+1! Apparently if it's going to work it'll start within the next 48 hours so let the games begin

@Rose429 I have hairdressers at 37+2 but keep telling baby they need to be out asap after that!

Eastybaby19 · 20/02/2023 17:27

Yikes I've heard they can be unpleasant 🙈 but hoping it does the works for you! Get on the ball 🤣 I wouldn't worry about the bishop score thing don't let it disappoint you I've never heard of it!!

Eastybaby19 · 20/02/2023 17:27

@TeddyBeans sorry forgot to tag you!

AK93 · 20/02/2023 17:44

@TeddyBeans feeling uncomfortable just thinking about it!! I didn't think much about those kind of things until yesterday with birth preferences talk - rather undecided on it all. I managed to feel my cervix when I was waiting to get pregnancy tests (I just had to see if I could feel what it said it could feel like 😆 ) I kinda hope I could manage to do that myself when it comes to checking dilation but don't know how easy that is at that point 😆 and imagine it is better to let them do it.
Fingers crossed for you!! xxx

Hope it works for you @TeddyBeans !
I would say I want baby to stay put but my pgp got So bad I can't do day to day tasks. It's very interesting to see the difference in care in hospitals as my midwife is giving me a sweep Thursday when I'm inly 38+3 and induction booked for the following week at 39+4. I'm not looking forward to sweep I'll be honest but I don't think baby is going to come on his own he keeps floating from right side then back to back.

I was really hoping I could feel myself also but I think my cervix sits so high I can just never get it.

ChristmasJumpers · 20/02/2023 18:33

I'm having some cramps this evening and felt like I needed to go to the toilet just now but definitely didn't need to when I went to the toilet. I'm hoping the cramps are nothing. Baby is still breech and I'm only just 35 weeks today! I'm hoping to ask for an elective c section so need baby girl to stay out until my growth scan and birth options chat next Tuesday

@teddybeans I hope the sweep works for you 🤞🤞 keep us updated!

Dreamingof3 · 20/02/2023 18:36

I hope it does something for you @TeddyBeans

I've only had 1 sweep before and they couldn't even do it because my cervix was just nowhere near ready 😂 I've been offered one at 39 weeks this time and not sure whether to have it or not...it might be nice to know what things were looking like at that point though? 🤷

iratepirate · 20/02/2023 18:49

When are people getting to chat about birth preferences? I’ve not been asked by mw what my preferences are yet. I’m 37+4 so maybe it’s not yet..?

Dreamingof3 · 20/02/2023 18:50

@iratepirate I've got an appt this week, 36+4 to go over mine

Saltandpepperr · 20/02/2023 18:52

I'm 38 weeks and not been asked about birthing plan or anything. I asked at 37 week app and she said its not really done anymore so I just said ooh OK. Felt a bit dismisses to be fair

iratepirate · 20/02/2023 18:55

Fair enough.
Last time I didn’t have any chat about any of it either tbh, and they didn’t ask when we went to delivery, so perhaps my hospital just don’t do that.

GreenIsle · 20/02/2023 18:58

Probably best just to make sure your birth partner knows what your plan is so they can speak up and advocate for you if needs be.

AK93 · 20/02/2023 19:01

@iratepirate the midwife I saw on Sunday at my 36w appt asked if it had been discussed yet, to be honest it's not completed she mainly just marked things on the app to say they'd been discussed/certain things had been explained to me. The online antenatal classes I had one about labour and birth I remember them saying about thinking about birth plans around 36 weeks. I guess you can ask to discuss it if they don't offer to? Some of it might depend what's available where you plan to give birth and the area/trust etc.

@GreenIsle to be fair it's probably not that common to be able to, I hear of a lot of people needing longer speculum during cervical screening due to cervix being high. I think it's just out of reach atm and may have just been luck that I was able to at the time 😆

I was asked on 36 week appointment but it wasn't recorded anywhere and midwife said I can print out the NHS form if I want to
But also that nothing would be done without consent
