@havanamama I also have the syringes I got them from amazon but haven't tried yet might have a bath and try after later on tonight. Not sure of the benefits though? Hoping I can breastfeed

JTB123 · 16/02/2023 14:06

Only just really started getting on the ball the last few days, not really sure if it'll
help bring on labour but my waters broke on the ball with my last baby (was literally like in the film, so messy 🤣) - not sure if this was just a fluke!

Anyone used the ball successfully to bring on labour? Or am I in dreamland? 😂😂

Ubbee · 16/02/2023 14:25

@Cuppasoupmonster yes! and I’m so confused by the current mixed advice I’m getting. What’s happening with you?

Oh no not you as well! With me baby was 5lb6 at 32+4, average measurements apart from tummy which was off the scale. I’m type 1 diabetes though so they weren’t shocked, although I was as DD’s tummy was stoically average at every scan. There was me thinking if I was tight with my sugars this wouldn’t happen 😭

Current plan is to induce at 37+0, I had hoped to get to 38 but safety first and all that. They offered me a caesarean as they ‘legally have to’ but their view is that induction at 37 weeks and the fact I’ve given birth before should minimise any risks.

I’ve decided to park the whole thing for now and see what the 36 week scan shows up. If he’s
measuring more than 8lb at that point I think I will ask for a CS, DD was 6 and I just feel that’s my personal limit.

Whats happening with you? Xx

MSS22 · 16/02/2023 15:02

Hi, @TeddyBeans can I have the fb link, had messaged a few days ago cuz I seem to have been thrown out, not sure if I missed it. Thanks

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/02/2023 15:02

Not sure how I feel after that appointment. Felt very rushed, no mention of birth plan or signs of labour
done a growth scan and according to my scan 2 weeks ago hes only grew 1oz? But doctor wasn’t concerned?
was also supposed to check placement of placenta and didnt
booked me in again in 3 weeks time when ill be 39+2 for another growth scan and a sweep, i thought you got them after 40 weeks?
will it be okay that im not getting an appointment at 38 weeks like your supposed to?
clinic was very busy and didnt want to go back but I dont feel very confident about anything and worries hes maybe stopped growing?

Saltandpepperr · 16/02/2023 15:19

@Rainbowbaby23 had an app today and my consultant said that they do sweep from 38 weeks now and induction from 39 weeks as research has shown its safer before 40 weeks and much more trust's are doing it. I didn't know this until today I also thought 40 weeks plus. But as another person said you don't have to have the sweep or induction. I am having mine next week though for personal reasons.

Cuppasoupmonster · 16/02/2023 15:53

@Rainbowbaby23 that doesn’t sound right to me at all!! Can you phone and ask them to clarify what’s going on? Very shoddy care. Are you in the U.K.?

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/02/2023 16:00

I’m in Northern Ireland @Cuppasoupmonster
I got another midwife that I know to look at my growth chart and she didn't seem concerned either maybe I'm just reading too much into the actual measurements and being a worry wort lol

Just going to try everything and anything from 37 weeks to go myself lol baby is head down and starting to go down my pelvis but never mentioned how far down or if he was engaged, but did need to go quite low to get the head measurement

Room4onemore · 16/02/2023 16:07

I’ve got to ring the midwife on Monday, little lady was oblique and I’m booked in for a sweep, I’m sure I need another scan to check position before?

TeddyBeans · 16/02/2023 16:13

@MSS22 yes of course, sorry I missed your message! Will pm you

TeddyBeans · 16/02/2023 16:30

@Rainbowbaby23 sounds very shoddy, I wouldn't be happy with 1oz growth. They're supposed to put on half a pound a week this late on. I'm having a sweep on Monday at 39+1 though I don't imagine it'll do much. Little miss seems to be very content where she is 🤦‍♀️ you can refuse if it's not something you're comfortable with

Finally had my 34 week scan at 35+4, baby’s head is below placenta so they’re not worried about that now. It did look like it’s behind him and not all the way up but hoping if no concern from them that I shouldn’t be either. I’m booked for another scan to extra check everything at 39+4 if he’s not here by then. He’s estimated 6lb3oz at the moment. I’m not sure I want him to grow too much more😆.
We saw him doing practice breaths on the scan which was pretty cool to watch 😍

Time to start birth prep soon I guess!

@Rainbowbaby23 I would give them a call and say that you’re worried as things weren’t done that should have been. If you get a print out or write up (handwritten or online/app) with scan measurements etc there’s usually a bit about placenta on there if they’ve looked at it. Did the sonographer definitely not check at all or could they have looked but thought all was fine so didn’t say anything? Remember they do the weight based on other measurements so it won’t be as accurate as if they could actually weigh the baby. Obviously mention it though so they can reassure you or figure something out if it doesn’t seem ok.

Raspberry28 · 16/02/2023 17:38

Ignore me just placemarking

I'm going to ask for a sweep on Monday, I'll be 38+5, they refused to sweep me until 40 weeks last pregnancy (he's nearly 2) so we will see..

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/02/2023 17:56

@AK93 She mentioned before doing the scan that she would check placenta placement but then never mentioned again and when she was doing the scan itself all she done was check measurements and fluid but nothing at all was mentioned about the placenta and there’s nothing in my notes either. I could get them to check again at my appointment in 3 weeks time but it’s just incase I went beforehand (probably unlikely anyway as ftm though)

TeddyBeans · 16/02/2023 18:11

Oh dear... Just seen on the news more nurse strikes on 1-3rd March 😬 I still agree with their need to strike but it could be literally over the days that I give birth (LMP DD was 1/3)

OP posts:
TeddyBeans · 16/02/2023 18:14

Although I don't know if midwives are striking alongside nurses this time, the news didn't specify

OP posts:
Room4onemore · 16/02/2023 18:19

I’m lucky that the midwives in the trust I’m giving birth in have chosen not to strike

Ubbee · 16/02/2023 18:26

@Cuppasoupmonster sounds very similar! Also sent for a scan which showed reasonably heavy baby (7lb 11 @ 37+1 last week) but also tummy off the line.
Initially they said to consider induction due to big baby and precious 3rd degree. Now they are saying also risk of GD (I’ve never been tested as no risk factors and no symptoms and apparently it’s too late to test now!) and also shoulder dystocia. But they also said that scans this late are very unreliable! Dystocia sounds terrifying especially after a fairly traumatic first labour.

So I’m not sure what to think. Also going to try not to think about it for at least a few days and have a sweep on Tuesday and see what happens naturally. They’re being really vague about when to be induced (between 39-40 weeks, no later than 41) but seems he’s very likely to come by himself by that point and is surely to late to reduce risks much?! Tempted by CS but also terrified of that. It doesn’t feel like there’s a good option sometimes!

Ubbee · 16/02/2023 18:28

@TeddyBeans i know so scary! I don’t think it is the midwives in England too but still feels unnerving

AK93 · 16/02/2023 18:56

@Rainbowbaby23 I was getting really anxious about going into labour without knowing if it was safe to, it may be that she did see but didn’t focus on it maybe if you have sonographer’s name you could ask them to enquire with her? Ideally you’d have been told but you never know. You’d certainly hope she’d say something if it didn’t look okay.
Maybe you could also ask if the appt could be brought forward a bit so within your 38th week and they can then base sweep etc on that?
Did they they say baby was going head down/into pelvis from the scan or palpation? In theory if it was in the way you may have been able to see it yourself. I will be honest it’s hard to spot the placenta yourself if you’re not trained what to look for but when she looked I could tell what she was saying about my baby’s head being below it now, & I was shown what it was like before at 20w scan and could see it was slightly over cervix at that time. I guess only because it was pointed out though. Plus it’s harder to see everything as they get bigger as can only see bits at a time!

I hope you can get something sorted or at least be put at ease a bit xx

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/02/2023 19:07

@AK93 She did mention baby was head down and he was further down than last time as I had to hold down my bottoms pretty down low for her to get the head measurement and she said that was a ‘good sign’

Have been getting some period type cramping since the scan and not sure if it’s because she was sort of digging in with the scanner or its baby head butting my cervix😂 forgot to ask if baby was still back to back but I think he is as movements all feel the same

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/02/2023 19:11

Anyone else feel like there is no end in sight? I know I'm only 36+2 and could have a good bit to go, obviously don't want him to come when he’s not ready but I’m starting to get really fed up now especially with not sleeping great and having awful back pain constantly. Feel like I’m going to gurn the next few weeks anytime I wake up still pregnant 😭😂

Missy95 · 16/02/2023 19:16

Hi everyone! Congratulations to those on the arrivals of their little babas!
Not long for most now! How is everyone doing?

Im about 34+5 today and had a few trips to hospital with sudden sharp pains! Monitor showed tightenings but test confirmed im not in preterm labour, phew.
However, pains have continued and 'lightning crotch' is horrendous. I think baby is sat on a nerve as I can barely put pressure down on one leg due to the pain! The joys, who knew pregnancy would be so delightful 🤣 I have breezed through it until this week so I won't complain too much. I have started maternity leave a week early so I'm currently in nesting mode, hobbling about the house haha! Looking forward to hearing more baby news! 🥰 xxx
