@iratepirate Oh dear that’s rubbish, sorry to hear you’re having issues getting a homebirth, didn’t think about staffing issues, hopefully that’s not the case when you go in, it’s a worrying time as it is without the added stress! My last birth was 2 hours from first contraction so getting to the hospital could be a challenge this time.

havanamama · 16/02/2023 09:43

@Shep21 I have the same with my hands plus joint pains in wrist and fingers at night - it's carpal tunnel syndrome.
I slept with the shins on last night and it helped with joint pains but not with the swelling.

havanamama · 16/02/2023 09:44

I'm 37 weeks today 🥰
Hope baby stays out until March, March just sounds sunny and springy haha plus we need to finish renovating our bedroom so we can put the cot up 😂

Not out but put!

Suchardchoccy · 16/02/2023 09:58

Thank you @TeddyBeans 😊 i too have been having lightening crotch and period back ache and the braxton hicks contractions have definitely got more frequent in the last few days but nothing yet!

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/02/2023 10:09

Another growth scan this afternoon to see how my chunky boy is getting on😂

Choc2022 · 16/02/2023 10:32

I still need to buy a car seat and pram. The one I want is always out of stock at the price I want it and everything else seems so expensive for what I imagine isnt used a lot.

Am I being silly? Shall I just spend the extra for comfort etc. We live in a city but usually use car for everything but will spend a lot of maternity at parents who are by the beach so im guessing would need all terrain?

Im looking at the Nuna Demi Grow - does anyone have experience with it?

TeddyBeans · 16/02/2023 10:49

@Shep21 sounds very similar to what happened to me. If they haven't told you already, high BP is anything over 140/90 (has to be both numbers over before they'll worry)

@Rebecca85x have pm'd you

TeddyBeans · 16/02/2023 10:53

@Suchardchoccy hopefully it won't be long for either of us 🤞

@Choc2022 have you considered second hand? I always found lots of people only use travel systems for 6 months before realising a buggy is much more convenient once they can sit up. You might be able to snap one up nice and cheap

TeddyBeans · 16/02/2023 10:54

@Rainbowbaby23 let us know how you get on 😊

OP posts:
Franklin321 · 16/02/2023 10:58

@Choc2022 id second looking for a second hand pram (but would buy a new car seat)…I bought my pram system new with my son and in hindsight wish I’d saved the money and gone second hand! I only used it for a year before moving to a second hand cheapy fold out pram which was much easier than the chunky travel system!

TeddyBeans · 16/02/2023 11:04

Yes definitely new car seat! I have a Joie 360 spin that I'm going to use when DD is a few months old - got my old silvercross carseat for the newborn stage. You can get all sorts now, definitely worth a bit of research

OP posts:
havanamama · 16/02/2023 11:10

We have a Maxi Cosy car seat that came with the newborn insert and then the 360 base.

We go to National Trust and English Heritage sites a lot so needed a travel system with very sturdy wheels and a basket underneath for stuff.

We splurged but I see it as an investment for future kids

Saltandpepperr · 16/02/2023 11:35

Well I'm rather shocked after my 37 week midwife appointment today. She has booked me in for a sweep next week and an induction for 39 weeks! I said I thought you didn't do induction until 42 weeks and she said they are changing policies in most hospitals now to induce between 39-41 weeks due to the increase risks after then. Looks like I will be meeting baby sooner than I thought. She also measured me and I was just measuring below 90th so not to bad.

LaForza101 · 16/02/2023 11:38

@JTB123 I hope you don't have too long a wait to be put on the monitors. I had the same thing on Tues - felt him move about as soon I was in the taxi to the hospital 😅

I did learn that the odd, occasional pressure at the top of my bump, under my ribs is Braxton Hicks seeing the contraction monitor jump up in time with the sensation/mild pain. And baby got a good check up so all good in the end

all was fine - of course!! 🤣 hate wasting their time but better to check right!! 38+1 today and just over it so badly. 😢

Blocklynn · 16/02/2023 11:59

@Saltandpepperr you don’t have to have the sweep or induction then if you don’t want to. It’s your body and baby, you get to decide when these things happen within reason (I’m not sure if you are high risk for anything is all I mean by that).
I personally wouldn’t be accepting them at that stage as I’m low risk and ideally want to go into labour without intervention.

NM1819 · 16/02/2023 12:06

Hi everyone, I'm being sent to the hospital to be monitored as I have a potential UTI but the back pains are concerning the midwives I think. Just waiting for my parter or dad to finish work (whoever finishes first) to have DS. Anyone else been sent for this reason? She said the concern is early labour as I'm 35 weeks today.

Saltandpepperr · 16/02/2023 12:09

@Blocklynn she originally booked me in for 27th but I asked for the 3rd so its a Friday and a bit later giving me some time to hopefully labour naturally. My best friend lost a baby last year still born at 42 weeks so I'm a little scared to go over plus I am on blood thinners so I'm happy to accept the induction at 39+6. I'm really fed up I can't walk or sleep aswell I have bad back pains.

havananana · 16/02/2023 12:13

I'm getting a sweep at 40 in baby is not yet here and at 41 week, and then induced at 41+3 if still nothing.

I do hope to go into labour naturally

havananana · 16/02/2023 12:30

I've got a breastfeeding consultation next week and will be able to collect the colostrum collection kit from my midwife at the 38 week appointment.

Has anyone already been collecting colostrum? Why is it necessary to "milk yourself" early if the baby will get it anyways the first day or two before milk comes in?

Im curious but also a bit like 🤔 about it. No one I know has ever done this and all had not even heard of colostrum collection in pregnancy

Cdoc · 16/02/2023 12:43

@havananana I bought the syringes myself and started from 37+1. FTM so to be honest have no idea how useful it will be, but a couple of friends who had difficult labours said it was useful in the hospital, and the first night at home when baby was struggling to latch and getting upset, they could feed them with a bit of colostrum to help calm them down a little bit. Our Trust do really encourage it but it’s difficult to know how useful it will actually be!
If anything I’m hoping it might encourage me to go into natural labour and avoid being induced on due date due to baby’s size 🤣

Suchardchoccy · 16/02/2023 13:00

@havanamama i did this with DD1 and I swear it put me into labour naturally!!
I’ve been doing it this time too for DD2 hoping it would also put me into labour but I’ve already collected 14ml of colostrum and I’m still pregnant haha. I’ve actually run out of syringes, I will ask the midwife for more at my 40 weeks app next Tuesday if nothing has happened. It definitely helped DD1 the first night at home when I was having a bit of trouble getting her to latch, then the midwife came the next day and really helped me with the breastfeeding so yes I would say it’s worth it 😊 colostrum is also known as “liquid gold” and is very good for the baby, so even if you struggle to breastfeed and give formula instead it’s a good idea to collect as much as possible to make the most of it! I’m going to try to breastfeed again this time but I’m not going to put as much pressure on myself as last time.

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 16/02/2023 13:11

I had my 34 week consultant appointment yesterday that turned into a bit of a drama.... blood pressure came in at 161/99 and babys heartrate was high, although urine was clear and no other symptoms of pre-eclampsia so sent for bloods. Always had problems getting blood out of me, 4 doctors tried until they had to get an anaesthetist to do it! Was put on the monitor for an hour and told to go home and call up at 8pm last night for blood results.

When i called for the results they said my PIGF reading from my bloods was concerning and i should never have been let home! Had to go back last night for more monitoring and BP tests, eventually got let home about midnight and told i have to go back next week for another BP test. Now just had another text through for an appointment tomorrow although didn't say what for.

Consultant did mention potential induction at 39 weeks if my BP doesn't come down, which i really really want to avoid 😩

Cuppasoupmonster · 16/02/2023 13:42

Anyone got a ‘big baby’ drama going on at the moment? ☹️
