I’m 33 weeks tomorrow and I already feel that way @Rainbowbaby23 - my back is killing me, I’m not sleeping for longer than 3 hour stretches at a time, and I have a constant feeling of being bursting for a wee bit when I sit on the loo hardly anything comes out. It’s all so uncomfortable. Just gave DD a bath and bending to get her washed and out the bath was PAIN. 4 weeks to go and to be honest, it’s just reconfirmed how much I don’t enjoy pregnancy! A little sad as I was so determined to enjoy this one, but it’s just been issue after issue and I’m fed up.

@Ubbee you sound like me in a few weeks - in fact if the baby continues to gain weight at this rate mine will also be in the high 7lbs art 37 weeks! Where was your baby’s abdominal circumference on the chart? Mine isn’t even on it - there’s a gap between the end of the line and the diamond thing 😳 my main worry is shoulder dystocia but equally I don’t want to jump at a C-section and regret the slow recovery. Being diabetic I’m also nervous about healing in general, even a paper cut seems to take days and days to heal! So hard to know what to do. My gut is telling me to wait to the next scan, and if he’s well over 8lb to ask for a c-section. A straightforward birth would be nice but is essentially icing, I just want the baby to be well.

Dreamingof3 · 16/02/2023 19:29

Can't remember where I saw this so probably worth checking but I'm sure it's only just over 50% of shoulder dystocia cases occur in 'big' babies...so actually almost as likely to happen with a baby of any size

iratepirate · 16/02/2023 19:55

Thankfully not feeling too many aches and pains at the moment. Just daily nausea. My scan last week showed a large tummy measurement, too. I’m trying not to worry too much about it but can’t help Googling shoulder dystocia 🙁

How big do you mind me asking irate? It’s really difficult to gage how concerned to be, like I said mine isn’t even on the chart.

Bobduncan · 16/02/2023 20:22

Has anyone taken raspberry leaf tablets? I have some from Amazon as they appealed to me more than drinking the tea, but now I'm not too sure how many to take! Any advice is welcome!

I can only see the general growth chart on the app but it’s jumped from 50th to 90th percentile between weeks 31 and 36, apparently only due to tummy measurement.

Considering sickness has me eating genuinely next to nothing most days, I’m not sure what I’ve done wrong.

Blocklynn · 16/02/2023 20:35

@Saltandpepperr sorry to hear about your friends loss 😞

Dreamingof3 · 16/02/2023 20:37

You haven't done anything wrong @iratepirate
Also if it's only one of the measurements that's showing large then that will throw off the whole weight estimate

They really like to worry people with big baby stories but they're wrong far more than they're right

iratepirate · 16/02/2023 20:41

I have a midwife apt tomorrow evening so going to ask her to do a fundal measure (mostly they haven’t been bothering as they’ve said no point when I was having growth scans) and see what’s happening there. The only fundal measure I’ve had so far was measuring far smaller than that me scans though so I’m not sure how helpful it will be.

iratepirate · 16/02/2023 20:42

Thank you @Dreamingof3 - she did say all other measures would have it remaining in the 50th percentile, just the tummy measuring large.

Cuppasoupmonster · 16/02/2023 20:48

Same as me @iratepirate everything else pretty much exactly average but the tummy dragging the overall weight up to the 90th centile. You’ve done nothing wrong - my first pregnancy was perfect, baby plotted average for everything throughout. I was sure this was because I kept my sugars under good control, but if anything they’re even better this time and yet my baby boy just will not stop growing 😐 it seems almost random.

My fundal height measurement is completely average yet according to the scans he’s a whopper. None of it makes any sense 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t feel much bigger than with my first pregnancy, maybe a week ahead.

I’ve also had hypermesis in this pregnancy, and a few other blips. It’s just been worry after worry. I had a great pregnancy last time but worked like mad throughout and then covid hit halfway through my maternity leave, so I was determined to make the most of everything this time. But it hasn’t worked out like that so far 😭

iratepirate · 16/02/2023 20:55

On the whole I’ve felt a lot better in this pregnancy than any of my previous ones, although my sickness just hasn’t ever stopped, which has meant I’ve eaten a lot less.

I’d stopped running way earlier than this in previous pregnancies, due to PGP which doesn’t seem to have been anywhere near as bad this time around.

No risk factors for GD so haven’t had any tests etc for that. I know that tummy measure can be linked to sugars etc. I eat fruit most days (ie today all I’ve managed is an apple and a babybel). 🙁

Cats23 · 16/02/2023 21:00

What an afternoon!
An extra growth scan today ( planned) Im 34+1, baby is now 4lb 13oz, maintained weight from last week.
Due to reduced movement again this week (5th time)in 4weeks, so Im being induced between 37-38weeks! Im v.glad about this as been so worried each time. Extra monotering till then too.

iratepirate · 16/02/2023 21:01

That sounds like a good solution for you @Cats23 !

Cdoc · 16/02/2023 21:04

@iratepirate I’m in a bit of a similar position to you, I am 37+5 and no GD test due to not being in any of the risk groups, however a private scan at 29 weeks shows a large tummy (50th to 90th percentile) and growth scans every two weeks since have showed no slow down in growth. Fundal height is also measuring above 95th line. The midwife just kept saying it’s highly unlikely I’ve got GD and now it’s too late to test me! They’re doing another growth scan Saturday at 38 weeks and will then refer me to a consultant at 39 weeks to discuss induction.
Baby’s head is also measuring above 85th, but femur 50, so tummy is a bit of an outlier.
I’ve tried to control it a bit myself but following a semi GD diet, but it’s so hard when you don’t actually know if you have it or not.
I feel guilty that I could have caused this but there’s no way of knowing 😞

iratepirate · 16/02/2023 21:07

Mine seems to have come on super quickly. Even tummy was measuring fine at 31w on the scan but by last week (36) it has hopped up to 90th percentile for tummy measure only. All other measures have been consistently measuring 50th.

Cdoc · 16/02/2023 21:11

@iratepirate it does make you wonder how off the scan measurements can be ☹️

Saltandpepperr · 16/02/2023 21:14

I have been told by a lot of ladies that growth scans aren't very accurate and their babies were meant to be big according to scans and then came out average. Also heard the later the scan the less accurate of size if that makes anyone feel better that they may have a big baby?

iratepirate · 16/02/2023 21:14

I think I just have to try not to worry about it too much. 😞
I’ve had too many things go wrong in past pgs and can’t help spiralling about this stage so am trying to keep my brain under control.

DH is away this weekend so I’m trying to organise something nice to do with DC to take my mind off.

Cdoc · 16/02/2023 21:18

@iratepirate definitely, try and keep yourself busy and occupied to stop the spiralling thoughts 😔

@Saltandpepperr thank you, I had read similar things so it’s good to hear you have heard them too. I’m quite short and a FTM so the thought of pushing out a very large baby is quite worrying. Definitely helps to hear that!

Ubbee · 16/02/2023 21:59

@Cuppasoupmonster very similar! The marker is just over the edge of the line from the last scan but it just says >95th so not sure by how much! Head also on 93rd which was the same at 20weeks but tummy was on 60th then…
I think your plan sounds sensible! Yeah it’s so hard once they start talking about issues that effect baby too, until now everything else for me has just been a slightly delivery risk to me.

Funny thing is I only got referred for this late scan showing he’s big because my bump measurement had dropped down to the 50th!

I agree @iratepirate , it’s so easy to feel guilty about but trying to remind myself my diet is pretty good, I really don’t think I could have done much differently.

Hoping you’re right @Dreamingof3 that they get this stuff wrong a lot! It really feels like none of it makes sense. I’ve asked for another scan to verify but they won’t scan me again within 14days so have to wait a bit longer and it’s getting a bit close 😐

Rainbowbaby23 · 17/02/2023 00:04

Ouch lots of fanny daggers tonight, especially when baby moves
hopefully starting to engage

firstlittleone · 17/02/2023 00:09

Looking for some info or guidance if anyone can offer ..
me and partner both work full time and don’t claim any benefits but we will be taking advantage of the child benefit (£21 weekly I believe) having read up on this I’ve come across the sure start maternity pay which is a £500 one off payment but I can’t make heads or tails of whether we’re eligible? Is the child tax credit the same as the child benefit??

Due March 2023 - Thread 8
Rose429 · 17/02/2023 00:33

@firstlittleone I have done my research on this and someone please correct me if I’m wrong…

Child benefits is different from child tax credit. Only one parent can claim child benefits and their income must be under £50k/year.

Child tax credit and working tax credit are old schemes and have been put under Universal credit “umbrella”. Your income/saving must be under £16k/year to claim this which I guess you’re not.

Sure Start Maternity Grant is only applied for people who are receiving benefits such as Universal credit.

So yeah in our case we can only claim Child benefits.

GreenIsle · 17/02/2023 02:25

Woke up with some cramp type pains and I've been to the loo twice also which is unusual. I'm 37+3, can't go back to sleep because I can feel pressure. I've took some paracetamol to see if it helps at all.
