@overwork yeah just like a sheet face mask. Totally unnecessary but a nice cooling treat for your skin

somuchtolearnabout · 27/01/2023 15:20

I’m not getting Covid but will get flu jab on Monday after my scan as they offer them at the maternity unit where my scan is. 2 birds, 1 stone and all that..

sally16 · 27/01/2023 15:23

Also not getting covid, I've had 3 so far and had already said before getting pregnant I wasn't going to get another one.. mostly because I dodged covid completely till the 3rd one 🤣

BMK · 27/01/2023 15:25

There's no requirement to have either further vaccine, it's entirely a matter of whether you want to get same. Personally I am avoiding as the flu is the flu and covid is not bad either so I'll take either of those over the variable side effects of vaccines.
Re induction: if you want a natural birth just wait it out until your body goes into labour. I think it's usually a week after EDD or can be up to 2 weeks for first time pregnancies.

I have found that the hospitals and particularly if you're under a consultant or private with consulate, want to induce so that the delivery occurs during office hours ie so that it's controlled and not causing them to have to leave their bed or come in and deal with it at night or evening.

I was under a private consultant the first time who was obsessed with inducing me minus medical need and as above cited re big baby ,anxious mother re potential size of baby and well that no advantage in waiting.

I looked it up and discovered the heightened more intense contractions and pain due to fake oxytocin induced labour (so your body doesn't recognise it and thus doesn't release natural endorphins /pain relievers)and that in first time mothers I think the stats are that it either fails in 33% of cases or only works in 33% of cases and when it fails it means an automatic section required as baby then needs to be delivered.

Consultant didn't tell me that if you have section that your chance of having subsequent vaginal delivery is unlikely and that it's not recommended to have more than 3 children with sections as risk of rupture if uterus etc. Lots of risks that weren't mentioned when he was happily slotting me in for induction 3 different dates(withoutasking me first)! This was despite my pregnancy being uneventful and everything perfect on scans.

I just stuck to my research(which I can't remember all of now) and put it in writing and he had to abandon it and accept my points. Which made me feel really under pressure and stressed given taht it was all new to me. Outrageous. I then found out he was heading away for 5days and also that this is his form generally.

I went public the next time and found the midwives so much better and generally not keen on trying to force induction to bring on labour, but not sure how it is in England.

LBF2020 · 27/01/2023 15:47

Thanks all for your induction stories, good and bad. I understand it's going to be a completely different experience for everyone but I already feel like I have a bit more knowledge (and will go and do some more reading of my own now) so thanks all 😊

And thanks @sally16 for the info re consultant led. Are you being consultant let this pregnancy too?

sally16 · 27/01/2023 17:10

@LBF2020 yep consultant led again, but U.K. asking for same for all appointments and not the registrars as was too much conflicting plans last time!

Miraclesdohappen88 · 27/01/2023 17:29

Hi all after a crappy night sleep last night I had my 12 week scan today. All is good and baby is measuring 1 week ahead so 13 weeks +1 new due date 3/8/23.

Congratulations @buttercupbee on the scan glad all went well. 🥳

sally16 · 27/01/2023 17:35

Is anyone else's skin horrendous? Mines is so spotty! All round my jaw mostly 😭

BCxx · 27/01/2023 17:41

My skins just coming out bad now @sally16 😭 It was awful the last time from quite early on

BCxx · 27/01/2023 17:43

I’m not getting the covid vaccine. I got the flu one at about 5 weeks at a drop in place and it turned out I had just caught covid the day before so ended up so so ill all that weekend 🙈made me think now I’ve had it I definitely won’t bother with the covid one

froglou · 27/01/2023 18:07

I had my Covid booster before I was pregnant, I'm unsure about the Flu one. I had flu in December (I would've been pregnant at the time but didn't know) and it was horrendous, that said surely the risk of getting it from now onwards is much lower as we're coming out of flu season?
I'm a bit skeptical about private scans, what happens if they notice a problem - do you have to wait for your NHS scan still - do they actually pick up any problems or just confirm pregnancy?

BusyBushBaby · 27/01/2023 18:29

Welcome @Cloudheaven !

Re: inductions, I had one due to big baby and while it did work it took 5 days and although I avoided a c-section I did have episotomy and forceps and he did quite a lot of damage to my undercarriage on the way out. My cervix wasn't at all ready but he was estimated 4.5kg at 38 weeks with his head measuring 43+6. It was lockdown so I was desperate to avoid a section as I wouldn't have help at home but I was so wrecked after the induction that I needed help anyway. It was painful and exhausting but it did the job.

I have been offered induction again and will probably opt for induction at about 41 weeks unless indicated sooner as after that the stillbirth risk starts to creep up but I'm hoping he or she comes naturally before that!

UsernameNotPresent · 27/01/2023 22:22

Ladies with previous c sections and now a growing baby bump, are you getting funky stretching/crampy feeling?

I can feel my proper baby bump now above my pubic bone (with the usual bloat higher up 🙈), but I'm getting these random stretchy cramps which I don't remember having first time around. There is nothing else really of note, but they freak me out. To be fair, first time around, I wasn't yet showing at this stage of 13+1 😬

sally16 · 28/01/2023 03:35

@UsernameNotPresent yes!! I acfually went to epu like what wtfff! I had a weird pulling pain across where my internal scar would be! And I get a few extra round ligament pains now than what I did before! So annoying!

Amme18 · 28/01/2023 07:39

@UsernameNotPresent not a c section but I’m 13+1 and was getting the stretching/pulling pains yesterday!! Wasn’t sure if it’s cause I’d had the scan the day before and she’d proper pushed down and took ages to get the measurements cause baby was curled up asleep and refused to move 🤣

I get twinges across my scar from time to time. But I did for quite a long time after the section and if I really overexcited myself I sometimes still do. I'm hoping I'm not going to have too much trouble with it this pregnancy, but I have to admit, I'm a little concerned. I don't think I realised how much having a previous EMCS changes your next pregnancy....although its not like I had a choice at the time in how I birthed 🙈

sally16 · 28/01/2023 08:34

Meant to bring softplay today, I really don't want too 😭 then get my hair done! So much sitting about :(

sally16 · 28/01/2023 09:28

Never mind.. made DP take DS softplay when a wave of nausea floored me 😅

DesertSnow · 28/01/2023 09:28

Thanks @AnnieApple123 for the new thread and being on top of people's due dates, it's really exciting to see.

Interesting to read about peoples experiences of inductions. I haven't really thought too much about that end of things yet, just taking each day as it comes. I know I'll have to think about it at some point!

I'm 14 weeks today and still suffering with sickness, plus fatigue seems worse than ever. Have read that if it doesn't calm down at 12 weeks, it may well do by 16 weeks, so hoping that's true. Definitely have a bump, but don't look indisputably pregnant.

Great to hear positive news from the scans. Exciting that some of you getting private gender scans might be finding out what you're having soon!

Alpacabag22 · 28/01/2023 09:55

Had some scary news back from our screening tests. NT looked within normal range but HCG was high and Pap-a was low (don't know exact leels). Been told increased risk for DS (1 in 21) and have to take aspirin, get some extra growth scans down the line. Waiting to get NIPT test now, and then it'll be a week before results.

Feels like it's going to be the longest week of my life. I was pretty shook up after phone call but trying to stay positve.

I was just starting to feel relaxed after scan and morning sickness easing up, now it feels like I'm back in the anxiety pit.

Not looking for answers, just helpful to have a place to vent.

BCxx · 28/01/2023 10:11

@Alpacabag22 sorry you’re worrying, I don’t know anything about any of that but hopefully your results are good when they come back and you don’t have too long to wait!

AnnieApple123 · 28/01/2023 10:18

I’ve not been around for a couple of days as we’ve had guests. I just wanted to say though that I’m so sorry you’re going through this @Alpacabag22 . Keep remembering that that still means a 20/21 chance that all is well.

Also I got my NIPT results back in just 3 days when I was expecting 1.5 weeks. I’d even called them that morning to double-check that they weren’t going to send the gender result and they said there was a very slim chance they’d be back the following day but it would almost certainly be early next week. They then arrived that afternoon. Hopefully it will be very quick for you too. xx

Alpacabag22 · 28/01/2023 10:43

Thanks @BCxx @AnnieApple123 I'm getting it through NHS so they said results will take a week. But maybe they'll surprise us! Guess with pregnancy there's always going to be something to wait and worry about! God, it's tough though 😥

LBF2020 · 28/01/2023 11:09

@Alpacabag22 so sorry you've got that worry hanging over you. Hopefully your NIPT results will have a quick turnaround x

DesertSnow · 28/01/2023 11:12

@Alpacabag22 really sorry to hear you are going through this worry. Really hope your results come back soon with good news. As @AnnieApple123 said, there's a 20/21 chance that all is well. Do keep talking on here if helpful, we're all here for you x
