@CityKity you wouldn't have done damage to baby by fainting. It's frustrating not being able to fire on all cylinders and keep up with usual pace of life. Look after yourself, lovely.

jjeanii · 14/02/2023 21:09

No it was, just the normal on tummy way . I had a warm bath and rested and it's getting better now but just to let you all aware as I've never had a gender scan before and it does seem to take longer and the more pressing can cause pain the next day

newmummie · 14/02/2023 21:16

Anyone notice food tasting different yet or a change in taste? I didn't notice anything until tonight I sat down to my dinner and straight away no taste or a very bland bland taste, ate this before and no problem, DH is calling me crazy, Covid or pregnancy I'm scared!!

CityKity · 14/02/2023 21:53

@AnnieApple123 @UsernameNotPresent Thank you both so much for the reassurance. I definitely need to keep an eye on this if it’s likely to get worse further into the second trimester. I actually didn’t get iron levels checked in my booking in bloods, just blood cell counts which were all normal. I am vegetarian so it’s feasible that I may be low in iron, even with taking those giant pregnacare supplements.
I’m hoping I can will myself into huge sleep tonight and reset a little.

BMK · 14/02/2023 23:33

@CityKity definitely no issue re baby,it's more that you are operating on empty!*For what?? Can you not take a few days off to recharge? You are that important and I'm guessing that's what you DH would say!
@newmummie bread/baking soda ie bicarbonate of soda (half or third of teaspoon) in a little water (about 1/5 of pint glass) about 5 times in first day and then morning and night thereafter until it clears. Also works for kidney infections/cystitis.
Sugar will make it worse so if you keep taking sweet/sugary things it will be harder to counteract. This includes and particularly so the sweetener things- ie fake /synthetic sugars -that are hundreds of times sweeter than sugar in things labelled 'zero sugar' but full of sweetners, and even alongside sugar in othets!

P1pk · 15/02/2023 00:10

@CityKity so sorry to hear this, hope you feel better after a good night's rest. I would definitely let midwife know so that they can keep an eye on things if they need to.

@newmummie I have been put off food for a little while now. Randomly I don't like the taste of things and this kills me appetite or I start getting acidity. Can't win at the moment

AnnieApple123 · 15/02/2023 10:12

@CityKity A blood count usually includes haemoglobin, which is the measure of iron used in pregnancy. It’s standard for it to be tested at 10-12 weeks and then again at 28 weeks, so you most likely have had it and they would have flagged it to you if it was low. Prenatal vitamins like Pregnacare don’t contain huge amounts of iron so you’d be recommended to take a specific iron supplement if low. Obviously do take professional advice though.

I can’t remember who was asking about osteopaths but the one I saw yesterday was excellent, unlike others I’ve seen in the past. In general I’ve found navigating the world of alternative practitioners tricky and have certainly come across my fair share of less than great ones. Finding a pregnancy specialist seems to have paid off. I don’t have SPD thankfully, just lower back pain which should improve in the next week or so. I’m hugely grateful as it’s really quite debilitating at the moment and another six months of it would be a struggle with another child to look after too.

@jjeanii I remember the same from my gender scan with DS! I think it's because they have to try and get a certain angle sometimes!
My 20 week scan last time was the same.. felt quite tender after!

allgoodthings84 · 15/02/2023 14:42

Hi everyone. I’ve only just seen this thread so will have a read through later. I had my 12 week scan today and am 12+4 weeks. I’m due on August 26th but am having a ELCS so will be around a week before that when baby will be here.

I’ve just started to feel a little better in the last week or so as had constant nausea (no vomiting though).

I’m now nervously waiting on my test results for Downs, Edwards and Patau. The baby had a good NT measurement and the nasal bone looked good so I’m hoping all ok there but am nervous as I’m 38. Not going to tell my daughter until after I get the result back. Well if it’s high risk then I’ll get a call in 3-5 working days so I’ll tell her after that. A low risk is up to 10 working days in the post. We are telling parents this weekend though

AnnieApple123 · 15/02/2023 16:02

Welcome @allgoodthings84 . Shall I put you down for the 19th say?

allgoodthings84 · 15/02/2023 16:06

@AnnieApple123 thank you. Probably best as will be closer to that than the 26th 😊

BusyBushBaby · 15/02/2023 16:37

Sorry I've been quiet lately, I've been poorly and so has my toddler. Not fun! I felt a bit better today so took my toddler out to a playground but unfortunately it was downwind of the fish market and I spent most of the time trying not to heave.

@BCxx that must be really worrying! Hope you're able to put it to the back of your mind until something can be done.

@LS888 I didn't know Cape Verde was a zika area! It wouldn't have crossed my mind not to go there tbh!

@jjeanii congrats on your (probable) baby girl! Sorry about the name though and your partner's reaction to it!

@AnnieApple123 I'll check out those videos, thanks! I've been meaning to join a prenatal yoga class at some point but haven't got around to organising anything yet. I've been feeling too crap to work out anyway.

@CityKity Sorry about the fainting and yes ask for a seat next time! Maybe you could get one of those baby on board badges?

@allgoodthings84 Welcome!

AnnieApple123 · 15/02/2023 16:37

How is everyone getting on with clothes? I’m rapidly growing out of all of mine and need to think about some maternity ones for spring. It’s feeling a bit overwhelming! My last pregnancy was in lockdown and I got away with alternating just a couple of big T-shirts.

OP posts:
AnnieApple123 · 15/02/2023 16:41

Oh goodness @BusyBushBaby I’d really struggle with a fish market too!

OP posts:
Marmaladebear · 15/02/2023 17:08

@BusyBushBaby oh no down wind of a fish market is no fun! Well done on enduring that. Also glad to hear you and your toddler are feeling better - so hard when you're both unwell.

@AnnieApple123 I started to show at 10 weeks so I've bought some nursing friendly maternity wear. Didn't know it existed the first time round! I also splashed out on some nicer maternity wear than last time - I felt so frumpy last time in some of the maternity wear I choose so I've been a bit more careful this time.

Dare I say it I'm starting to feel better 😲 don't want to jinx it. I was still sick this morning but feeling better for the most part, finally!! My NHS scan dated me further behind than my private one though (but matches my dates) so I'm only 13+4 right now. Really hope I start enjoying pregnancy soon now that I'm not so sick.

If I still feel good on the weekend I'll do a pregnancy announcement on Saturday. Told all my close friends and family and started telling a few people at work but it's honestly been mortifying telling people discretely and then them shouting across the office asking if it was planned/what my due date is (resulting in some of my work friends finding out by over hearing rather than from me). Would rather people heard it from me even if it's via social media.

ChloeN · 15/02/2023 17:26

@AnnieApple123 I’ve just been wearing normal clothes in bigger sizes, mostly leggings everyday tho🤣

Recoba · 15/02/2023 17:42

@allgoodthings84 welcome! Hope you get your results by post soon - mine arrived today after my scan last Tuesday so fingers crossed yours are similarly prompt.

I was reassured when we compared mine to the baseline maternal age risk, data here (might be helpful for anyone else trying to interpret the numbers you get back). I thought mine would be higher this time due to being 3 years older than last time I conceived, but from memory this time round it's a slightly lower risk (~1 in 1900 for Down's).

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 15/02/2023 17:58

@AnnieApple123 I bought a couple of bits in the next size up initially. But last night I ordered some maternity wear (mainly dresses) ready for spring.

LS888 · 15/02/2023 18:44

Sickness and nausea finally starting to ease and I’m 16 weeks on Friday. A few days ago I thought I could feel a small bump and now I don’t feel bloated and can’t feel a bump. Hubby says he can. I think with the symptoms easing a up a little anxiety is creeping in. I don’t really feel pregnant. Does anyone else feel like this?

Narwhal88 · 15/02/2023 18:56

@LS888 my sickness got a lot better from 12 weeks which coincided with me stopping my ivf estrogen medication so I think my hormone level was really high and it was making me more sick. I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and don't really feel pregnant either. I'm not feeling 100% all the time but generally I'm fine. It does freak me out a bit and I really want another scan (but also don't at the same time!).

@AnnieApple123 I haven't fit in any of my trousers since like 9/10 weeks 😂 I bought some maternity jeans and lounge trousers and have been wearing them already. I have stage 4 endo though so I get 'endo belly' anyway and I was on a lot of drugs which bloated me.

CityKity · 15/02/2023 19:15

@BMK @P1pk @BusyBushBaby Thank you for the kind words of reassurance, I slept 8hrs last night and feel like a new woman today! I also did finally order a baby on board badge so at least I might be able to get a seat next time I’m feeling faint.
@AnnieApple123 thanks for the info re: haemoglobin, just checking my 12 week bloods again, and that was totally normal. I’ll mention it at my next midwife check just in case.

AnnieApple123 · 15/02/2023 20:17

@Marmaladebear I definitely am feeling less tired and sick now at 16 weeks. Although now of course I’ve managed to injure my back. It really is just one thing after enough.

If anyone spies any boot cut maternity jeans anywhere, I’d love if you could let me know.

OP posts:
BCxx · 15/02/2023 20:27

@AnnieApple123 i feel like I’m at the horrible in between stage where I don’t look pregnant but I’m too big for any normal jeans etc I have. Every time I go to get dressed I’m really struggling 🤦🏼‍♀️ I do have all my maternity stuff back out but it’s mainly summery dresses and floaty comfy trousers in big sizes

BCxx · 15/02/2023 20:30

@LS888 yip I started to worry this today! You’re desperate to feel normal but as soon as you do you think the worst 🙈 I found myself thinking the other day about how I just couldn’t wait until the baby would kick and I wouldn’t need to worry if they were okay anymore. Then I remembered that you then have this responsibility that you’re reminded of every time a midwife or doctor speaks to you that you must contact them immediately if you feel any change in movements but in reality the movements change all the time and you feel like you’re wasting their time if you were to turn up with every slight concern 🙈 so although I was looking forward to that bit, its really just another worry 😂

LS888 · 15/02/2023 20:34

@BCxx I did end up googling it and lots of posts on similar forums/communities saying the same at about 16 weeks. So that’s reassuring! I guess it’s all just a constant worry until they are born and then it continues for life 🤣 I can’t wait to feel movement. Thought I felt something the other day but nothing since so it was probably just wind as it is quite early to feel anything.
