Good luck to everyone with your scans this week. It’s totally magical :)

overwork · 06/02/2023 12:14

Blimey @MinnieFirstTimeMum you have a lot on your plate! I'd have been devastated to find my new home in that state - and livid with her for delaying you. Can you delay a module until next year?

Amme18 · 06/02/2023 12:53

Oh @MinnieFirstTimeMum what a nightmare!! What were her reasons?!

Alpacabag22 · 06/02/2023 14:18

After what has been the longest week of my life my NHS NIPT test came back low risk. Feel like I can breathe again for the first time in days!

I'm still nervous - I've been told to take aspirin due to low pap- a and will get extra growth scans later on. But I'm going to try and enjoy my pregnancy, I realised I don't want to look back on this time and just remember how worried I was fir 9 months. Easier said than done of course!

Anyway if anyone else is on here is waiting for results, sending you a hand squeeze. It won't last forever x

sally16 · 06/02/2023 14:24

@MinnieFirstTimeMum oh my goodness!!
I take it she was a tenant that didn't want to move on? If she was the seller I'd be sending the solicitors photos for additional payment! That's totally unacceptable in any instance 🤯

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 06/02/2023 14:26

@overwork yes I can, but I have chosen the next module to move into next year as the exams are in august for that module 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Amme18 she didn't give one, just that she would leave when she was ready. She was moving her whole house in a row caravan so I think that had something to do with it.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 06/02/2023 14:27

@sally16 nope, that would have at least made sense. But no she was the seller. I couldn't believe it. I didn't even try to enter the house until 3pm (I had my cat in a carrier since completion at 10:45am).
It was certainly a crazy day.

I'm just excited for new carpets it has been rather chilly without them 😂

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 06/02/2023 14:29

@Alpacabag22 thank you. I've just had my bloods taken for mine this morning. So now the 1 week wait. On the plus side we got to see the little one before my 12 week scan on Thursday. Although they weren't facing the correct way for a good photo. Stubborn already 😂

sally16 · 06/02/2023 14:30

@MinnieFirstTimeMum omg! I'd defo be contacting the solicitor then 🤯
What a rubbish start to your new home! Atleast now you won't be wondering what the yuck smell is with new carpets! 🤞🏻

Our house had 'new carpets' when we moved in but was a weird smell coming from the hall and it was the old underlay that was soaked in animal urine! Was horrendous!!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 06/02/2023 14:31

It is so bad isn't it.
I was fuming to begin with, but then I just couldn't get over how they could have lived in the mess in the first place. Mind blowing x

unluckyinlife · 06/02/2023 14:42

Happy Monday!!! (as my 4 year old enthusiastically says when she wakes me up at 6am).

I had my flu jab today and picked up some baby socks and hats when I was there, which made me feel a bit better after a horrendous morning at work.

After thinking I wasn't showing as badly this time, my mum just told me that my nephew asked her if I was pregnant this morning as I 'looked really round and pregnant' on Saturday.

I imagine this is now the talk of the family.

I have no issue with people knowing eventually but I would like to have my 12 week testing first especially as the mirena coil and my low folate levels have a higher risk of spinal tube defects.

My family would stop talking to me if I decided to terminate for a medical reason, hence me not wanting them to know.

Recoba · 06/02/2023 16:39

@unluckyinlife fingers crossed everything is okay - do you have long to wait until your scan?

My 12w scan is tomorrow. Have felt so tired and terrible recently that I'm kind of dreading it. We have to pay £5 per scan photo here, though last time the sonographer thought DS was cute and gave us a bunch extra for free. Hoping for a similar result this time round!

For any first timers or people wanting reassurance, my NHS trust (Oxfordshire) has a "maternity voices partnership" Facebook page and they do Q&A's with the midwives every couple of weeks. Really good for getting general information and also asking questions if you have anything you're concerned about. Not sure if it's something other trusts do, but might be worth a quick check (particularly as people have started announcing now so joining such a group on Facebook isn't such an outing anymore).

Really sorry you're not feeling great @AnnieApple123 and hope you can get the support you need.

@MinnieFirstTimeMum that's absolutely appalling! I would be on my solicitor (although my experience with property solicitors is that they'll do b*gger all).

unluckyinlife · 06/02/2023 17:03

@Recoba I have ages to wait still. My scan isn't until the 20th when I'll either be 13 weeks or 12 and 5 depending on which scan they believe. I think I've become even more invested this pregnancy because I know of its challenges.

In a way I'm relieved my scan is quite late as I feel it will be more likely to show any issues and catch them if there is any and if not it won't be too long until I see baby again 😅but secretly terrified my nearly 6 year old will ask if I'm pregnant as he did very early when I had a previous loss (luckily I denied it).

I don't think I'll tell them until around 16-20 weeks if I can help it.

I saw the baby at 6 and 5 when I first found out and I think I was so shocked I didn't even take it in.

My husband can't make it to the scan appointment but my best friend is coming and I know she'll be so supportive.

How exciting your scan is tomorrow! Have you got someone coming with you?

Recoba · 06/02/2023 17:24

@unluckyinlife oh, that's a while to wait - hope it passes quickly (I guess it might with a nearly 6y and a 4y - they must keep you busy?). Are you doing anything nice for half term? Makes sense not wanting to tell them until later, we're thinking of telling our nearly 3yo after the scan tomorrow, assuming everything is okay.

Glad you've got your best friend coming with you for your scan, my husband is coming to the one tomorrow, but when I got an emergency scan at around 7w after some bleeding my best friend came with me and it was really reassuring to have someone there.

I've started thinking a bit more about birth plans recently - I'm finding it a bit hard to visualise as DS was born in April 2020, so guidelines were changing every 5 minutes due to COVID. E.g. on one of the q&A's the midwives said people get scans at 36 weeks as well, which definitely didn't happen with my first. And my husband wasn't allowed to be with me whilst I was being induced, but I'm assuming that guidance has changed as well!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 06/02/2023 17:52

@Recoba the trouble is it now becomes a breach of contract matter and not a property matter so it is a different area of law.
I am a barrister myself so I could claim against her at a small claims court, but it isn't worth the effort with all else going to be honest. It is annoying though xx

newmummie · 06/02/2023 18:34

Hi everyone, I'm due aug 13th 💙💖

ChloeN · 06/02/2023 18:44

Hi girls, I’ve had a continuous cough the last couple of days, I’ve had today off work because I felt crap. Im pretty sure it’s just a cold but my partner thinks I should call the GP tomorrow because of the cough. What would you all do? I assume they won’t be able to give me anything for a cough anyway!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 06/02/2023 18:51

@ChloeN so sorry you are unwell. Not sure they will do anything for a cough, have you tried taking some paracetamol to see if that will take the edge off?x

ChloeN · 06/02/2023 18:53

@MinnieFirstTimeMum yep been taking paracetamol so I feel generally better, I think I’m just tired because I didn’t sleep much with the coughing! It’s more annoying than anything but now worrying the continuous cough might not be doing the baby any good! Xxx

Sjw30 · 06/02/2023 18:55

@ChloeN sorry you’re unwell. Do you think it could be covid? I’m not sure what the GP could do to be honest, as I’m not sure there are many options for what is safe to take. Maybe a pharmacist could suggest something that could ease it? And if you’re worried about the effects of baby are you able to ask your midwife? Hope you feel better soon xx

CityKity · 06/02/2023 18:56

@ChloeN so sorry you’re not feeling great. Do you have a temperature as well? If not I’d probably just take time off work and recover with Lemsip and plenty of hydration. If you’ve got a fever I would call the GP just to get their advice. I had a friend with tonsillitis who sounded awful last week and has immediately perked up after a course of antibiotics.

CityKity · 06/02/2023 18:58

@ChloeN just read your update! Glad you’re feeling slightly better, maybe all the coughing is secretly doing wonders for your pelvic floor 😅

ChloeN · 06/02/2023 19:08

@Sjw30 it could be I guess, I’ve never had it to be fair but my boyfriend had a cold last week so I assumed I just caught it off him🤣 I might give the midwife a text tomorrow if I don’t get any joy phoning the gp!

@CityKity no temperature, I’m just a bit bunged up and then the cough! Tbh I’ve wee’d myself about 30 times today🤣 and I’ve been to the toilet soo much but think that might be all the water I’m drinking!

CityKity · 06/02/2023 19:15

I can’t believe we’re half way through thread 6 and I’ve let it pass me by!

I’m having a strange time of it mentally so haven’t checked in here in a while. I think after the pre 12 week scan nerves, then post 12 week scan relief, I’ve just felt a little flat and like I’m not feeling the emotions I should be feeling.

Have now told family who are all delighted but haven’t yet had the chance to see and tell my closest friends. I’ve never thought of myself as particularly maternal but am worried about my lack of emotion and excitement to tell people. I actually told a very close colleague at work today and told her it was unplanned. Why am I so embarrassed to admit it was planned?!
I feel guilt that we got pregnant quickly when it can take so long for others. I still worry that at the next scan something will be wrong so I feel like I might still be trying not to get too emotionally attached. I feel like we hear so many bad / horror stories and those seem to stick and I struggle to believe that we’ll be one of the good news stories.
Arghhhhhh what a total mind f**k. Luckily DH is provided all the excitement for this household, so hopefully I can snap into it at some point too.

Sjw30 · 06/02/2023 19:47

Anyone else suffering/suffered with sciatica and have any tips on easing it? I’ve never had it before, it’s self diagnosed at the moment 😂 but I keep having shooting pains down my left hand side that are top of my thigh into my bum. It really makes me stop in my tracks and sometimes feel myself go a bit wobbly. It’s particularly worse when I’ve done a few shifts at work.
I have read swimming can help so going to try get back in the habit of going regularly.
