@justbelieve I have my 20 week scan the the 7th too, When's your due date?

Leaf86 · 24/01/2023 19:59

We haven’t bought anything yet, but that’s partly because I love browsing and making lists and find it harder to commit ! We live in London and I have friends that did sling only for the first 3 months and then got the pram when baby was a bit heavier. Not sure if that’s mad or sensible, but it’s an option…! I quite like the bugaboo bee as it looks quite manoeuvrable for city streets and doorways.

I’m still feeling quite anxious about everything, especially as my work colleagues now all know and wider friends/family too. I am worrying about every twinge, which is driving me mad. Midwives have essentially said it’s normal to have brief stabbing pains or dull achy growing pains, but it’s hard to convince yourself if you’re having a particularly uncomfortable day. I’ve also started to have some lower back pain on busier days, not sure if anyone else has had this?

justbelieve · 24/01/2023 20:03

@firsttimelondonmummy I loved the Dune the pod options are really good. I loved the big wheels and carry cot on the Reef, we go on lots of walks with our dog so it’ll be perfect for that.

I’m hoping I feel him soon, I think we have the same due date so it’s good to know I’m not alone with movements.

I had a scan at 16+2 and he was moving lots and the sonographer said all the measurements were good and baby was looking really well, so I’m hoping 20 week scan will be the same. I’ve heard if you drink lots of water (over 2 litres a day) in the lead up to your scans it can make your scan image clearer, so I’m trying to get more water in between now then and hopefully make a habit anyway as I know I’m not drinking enough 🙈

justbelieve · 24/01/2023 20:03

@Hlc86 oh yay! At least we can count down together! my due date is 22 June 🥰

justbelieve · 24/01/2023 20:05

@Leaf86 ive also had full aches quite low down, especially when I’m out walking the dog, which is apparently normal.

I’ve had some minor back pain, which I think is from bad posture when sitting at my desk. But my best friend suffered with back pain throughout her second trimester, so I think it can be common

AngelBlue12 · 24/01/2023 20:06

Hello, is there room for another one in here.

PurBal · 24/01/2023 20:15

@Leaf86 theres nothing you can’t get delivered next day or at a 24 hour supermarket. Could always go with the sling and, if you decide to get a pushchair, you can do something very quickly
@AngelBlue12 hello!

PurBal · 24/01/2023 20:19

@justbelieve I’m not convinced by the anterior/posterior thing, I just think everyone is different regarding movements. It’s still really early I think 24-26w is when you should expect to have felt them. This is DC2 and I was really surprised to find out mine is anterior as been feeling bubbles since 13w and I keep getting kicked in the bladder! I was hardly feeling DC1 at all at this stage (and that was a posterior). As I say, just think every pregnancy is different.

PurBal · 24/01/2023 20:26

Been getting aches around my bump today. Seems to have got worse as the day has gone on. Feeling movements and no bleeding so assume just the consequences of getting bigger. Makes me feel a bit low tbh as we still have a while to go.

firsttimelondonmummy · 24/01/2023 21:22

@justbelieve we’d probably have gone for the reef if we’d have known the compact carry cot from the dune fitted on it 🤦🏻‍♀️
Hopefully most country parks are pathed 😂 otherwise we are buggered as we have a dog too haha.

Leaf86 · 24/01/2023 21:26

@justbelieve thanks, always reassuring to know I’m not the only one. I’m always a bit more uncomfortable after/during a dog walk too.

@PurBal yes good point! I think also as a first timer it’s tricky to know exactly what we are going to want / use the most (more generally) and as we don’t have a big house, I’m going to try the less is more approach until we think we are missing something.

Kladebs · 24/01/2023 21:46

With my previous pregnancies, I've always refused to buy anything until after the 20 week scan.
This time I've got a load of stuff (scan is tomorrow). With it being twins, I have no idea when they'll arrive, although I hope they stay put until 37/38 weeks. I have more of an urge to be organised this time. Also doing it on just my income, I need to spread the cost.
I'm already in agony with my hips, had spd with last one so going to mention it to the consultant.
I also get stitch like pains in the bump when I'm walking alot too at the mo again x

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 24/01/2023 23:29

@DrinkingAllTheGin Hope you're feeling better. It could definitely be low iron!

We only got pram early as my mum was buying it and kept pestering me to choose! My brother is giving us his next to me cot but his baby is 6 weeks old ATM so hoping that he's done with it in time. MIL pestering us to choose a highchair to buy too now. Only things we've actually bought ourselves so far is a steriliser set and perfect prep machine. Hopefully our scan tomorrow goes ok. Got the Doppler at the same time too then consultant after to discuss the results. DD keeps kicking tonight so hoping all ok.

PurBal · 25/01/2023 05:20

Second (or third or fourth or more) time mums: what’s on your shopping list?
We’ve decided against a double buggy for now (as I mentioned up thread can always get one if we change our minds). DC1 will be 23 mo.

  • sling (we have two from last time but want to get something more substantial, maybe the omni360 air).
  • buggy board
  • clothes, don’t need many as both are boys and born at the same time of year but want him to have some new bits.
  • Consumables like nappies and nipple cream 😂
Anything I’ve missed? Will use DC1 car seat as grown out of it now and have a Moses basket from last time too. p.s thank you for this thread, and thank you for letting me use it as a sounding board, really appreciate knowing there’s someone reading xx
chocolatebuttonlover · 25/01/2023 06:23

Thank you for everyone's lovely messages about scan! All looked perfect, and saw babies big beautiful lips really clearly! Also had the shock of our lives and found out we're having a boy! 💙 From a family with almost 6 generations of two girls, we're finally breaking the trend!

@PurBal I'm on second DC too and buying exactly the same as you. Only difference is this time it's a boy not a girl - so I'm going to have to reinvest in more clothes as I went a bit wild on frilly pink dresses with DD 😂 I'm also not sure about double buggy. DD will be nearly two and they're all very expensive!

Algor1thm · 25/01/2023 06:51

@chocolatebuttonlover @PurBal DS will be almost 3 and we're going to try and get a double buggy second hand on marketplace for cheap. He's okay on short walks now but very slow and he gets tired easily. I don't think I can trust him to sit and stay on a buggy board yet because he's a bit of a loose cannon 😄

RedRose36 · 25/01/2023 07:15

@firsttimelondonmummy it's clearly a good choice 🥰. It does seem to have gained popularity at the min but I reckon it'll still be one of the more unique names.

Ally1992 · 25/01/2023 07:24

I Haven’t posted in a while but still reading everyone’s updates.

Had my 20 week scan last week and everything is looking good. They said he is measuring more on the petit side which is absolutely fine. For me it is a relief as I’m diabetic and have been advised the baby will most likely be big and will probably be induced.

My morning sickness stopped at 16 weeks but randomly came back today, anyone else experienced this?

Kelvie103 · 25/01/2023 08:34

Finally read through the new thread and caught up! Just booked my NCT course last night after a couple of friends recommended it. I did want to wait until after my 20 week scan which is on the 6th of Feb but there were only 3 places left on the one we wanted. Its a bit early for my due date as it finishes end of April and I'm due end of June but it was the only one nearby and at times that suited us.

I went shopping with my mum last weekend and bought my first few bits of clothes which was lovely but now I can't stop looking online at more baby stuff! Not planning to get the bigger items or sort his room out until March or April though I think. Although I am a bit worried about the amount of junk we'll need to find new homes for that's in the spare room at the moment!

@PurBal I was told I have an anterior placenta and could have sworn I was feeling little bubbles from around 13 weeks too! It's my first pregnancy though so thought it couldn't be baby or I was imagining it. I didnt even tell anyone as I didnt want people to think I was crazy! It's only got stronger though and now I know its definitely him.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 25/01/2023 08:52

I was up all night with constipation pain. When that subsided my rib pain started again. I'll mention it today to the consultant but I'm not expecting them to take it seriously. I could only get comfortable on my back last night as the rib pain was bad when side sleeping.

I'll be looking for a carrier or sling too. I think I'd like to try one this time around.

thedust · 25/01/2023 09:02

@BellaTheDarkOverlord oh the constipation pain is awful isn't it. I've been on 2 fybogel a day and haven't had any since but before that I had to call DH home from work early to do nursery run as I was crippled with the pain. Hope you get some relief soon.

I've been quite quiet on the last thread, we've moved into a temporary rental flat while we have our extension built. It was hard moving while pregnant so not looking forward to the moving back in! We will have to plan it for a weekend so we can get lots more help. Just hope everything comes in on time and in budget, we've already had our window supplier go into administration and our roof survey say it all needs replacing - fun!

Had our 20 week scan last week and found out we're having another girl! Which makes it lots easier for hand me downs and also names as I find boys names really hard. Feeling quite a bit of movement now and DH felt his first kick last week. Last pregnancy my placenta was anterior so he only felt kicks towards the end when you could literally see a foot coming out the side of my bump 🤣 but he said this was a lot more gentle.

dresslol · 25/01/2023 10:01

Anyone thinking about a double pushchair, I had this one (Out n About) with my first two children, 12 years ago! It was really easy to push and the bigger one could sit on the front triangle instead of in the proper seat when we were somewhere safe. I found it invaluable but my kids were close together (17 months apart). By the time my youngest was nearly three I swooped for a small single pushchair and the girls used scooters (micro-mini scooters) to get to and from nursery and pretty much everywhere else, I found them a total lifesaver and it meant the kids were always getting some exercise.

I was in Gloucestershire at the time though, forgot that point, it would have been an impossibly big pushchair for where I live now in London.

Hlc86 · 25/01/2023 10:46

@justbelieve ahh my due date is the 23rd, counting the days, it's going so quick already

Dewintergarden · 25/01/2023 11:20

Hello just jumping on to this thread. I hope you're all managing to keep warm!
