Creating a new thread as we’re about to finish the first - just as we finish our first trimesters!

@septembersapphire7 Hope your results go well! Did they not ask you to do a second set of bloods before amnio? Wishing you the best of luck x

Okay I have to ask - what is a NIPT? Seen it mentioned so many times and I have no clue what it is 🙈

septembersapphire7 · 17/01/2023 19:30

@rach971 nipt stands for non-invasive pre natal testing.

It’s available privately from 10weeks (approx £3-500) but the nhs offers it if the combined test shows a high risk for trisomy 21/18/13 (Downs/Edwards/patau syndrome).

it is still a screening test but doesn’t carry risk of miscarriage like cvs or amniocentesis

(hope that helps)

I’m also waiting for results from my NIPT @septembersapphire7 - high risk for downs.

When do you expect to hear?

septembersapphire7 · 17/01/2023 21:09

@Getinajollymood my results were ‘no result’ - I got them back much earlier than expected (test tues morning, results next Monday morning by phone) - but now I’m awaiting an Amnio on Thursday.

good luck for your results.. fingers crossed for a low risk 🤞🏽

Coffeeforlife · 17/01/2023 21:51

Fingers crossed for everyone waiting on tests and test results, it's really tough not knowing.

In case anyone is interested we have a private Facebook group set up from the thread, it's called Waterlilies (a birth flower of July) and the entry question is just to make sure people are joining from here rather than thinking it's some sort of gardening club after a Facebook search... It's at

Ahhh hello fellow 20th July mummy ❤️ how exciting!
My mum always tells me that in their day, they knew so much less about things that could go wrong and they were so much more relaxed! I need to channel that energy lol

Getinajollymood · 18/01/2023 06:36

All the best for tomorrow @septembersapphire7

When will you get the results?

clouise30 · 18/01/2023 09:00

Morning all. Not really a question just looking for a little bit of a hand hold.

I have my first cervical scan today after having 3 LLETZ procedures previously and I am terrified. I am just so certain that something is wrong like such a gut feeling and I cannot control my emotions about it at all. I noticed at our scan where I was dated 12+6 that the baby seemed really quiet and not bouncing around a lot. The sonographer didn't say in any way something was wrong. My partner commented that maybe they are just like us and mega chilled and love a nap, which is cute but I've just had a niggly feeling about it since. I'd started feeling some movements over the last couple of weeks - the odd tap and bubble burst feeling but nothing I could notice in the last 2/3 days. I'm a natural worrier and have tried so so hard to be positive and trust that things will be okay but has hit me like a wave over the past day.

Do you think I can ask the sonographer at my scan just to quickly check the baby's heart beat to give me some reassurance they are okay?? I mean surely it's only the other side of what they are measuring with an internal scan?

Sorry for the rant!

MamaSJ15 · 18/01/2023 21:49

@Rutennotou oh wow big gap there! I don't blame you, were stopping at two 😊

EmmRach · 18/01/2023 22:57

@clouise30 hope the scan went ok. I've no idea if it would have been possible. But I hope you asked. Always worth a polite ask in my book, they can always say no. X

Getinajollymood · 19/01/2023 08:48

The results from my NIPT are back, and show as low risk for Down’s, so I am relieved about that.

We now have to decide whether to have the amniocentesis and are leaning towards not - does anyone have any thoughts?

@septembersapphire7 any news for you? Thinking of you.

ScarletDreams · 19/01/2023 10:03

Hi , just quickly jumping on from the previous thread. Loving seeing all your scans.

septembersapphire7 · 19/01/2023 12:39

Hello @Getinajollymood i just got back from amniocentesis.. it was so much better than I thought! Consultant who did the scan was brilliant and talked me through everything (and told me I’m having a boy 💙)

the actual procedure was almost pain free- just went needle went into uterus was some discomfort but otherwise over in less than a minute.

I will say- I thought they did the full karyotyping but he said they only look for the 3 trisomies and keep the sample so if anything more showed up on 20week scan then they’d look further.

that’s great news the nipt came back as low result.. you can always have the 20week scan and decide if you want the Amnio later? I’m just glad it’s over and going to settle down to 48hours of rest and relaxation 🤗

Getinajollymood · 19/01/2023 12:47

Congratulations on team blue! I have a two year old boy and he’s lovely (mostly!)

I will keep everything crossed for you Smile

MamaSJ15 · 19/01/2023 14:32

Hello all. I've been keeping up to date but not saying much as I don't really understand the tests that a lot of you are going for. Either way, I hope all is okay and it's lovely to hear some of you now knowing the gender too!

The past few days I've been getting a feeling over my belly that I find difficult to explain... I'll try 😂 it's feels like a bit of an ache, or like the very beginning of cramps, it sort of comes on (usually when I'm sitting down) and will ease back off again soon after. I've looked into Braxton Hicks (I got these a lot in the later part of my last pregnancy and apparently they start very early sometimes) but I'm not getting the tightening feeling. any have any ideas? It's not painful, I don't notice it when I'm moving around usually and it doesn't tend to last long, it's just noticeable if that makes sense.

Hjudge56 · 19/01/2023 17:26

@MamaSJ15 I’ve been having a very similar thing!! Exactly how you’ve explained it too. I find when I’m sitting at my desk for a while I get this like heavy feeling as if I’m about to get period pain but then don’t!

I did read someone else on the thread have something similar too. My theory is it’s just baby growing and uterus growing but feels a bit different to first trimester as the baby is getting heavier?! I wonder if it’s also the baby moving around into a different position but we can’t quite feel the actual baby moving yet.

MamaSJ15 · 19/01/2023 19:08

@Hjudge56 thank you! So glad I'm not the only one, was starting to feel a bit weird haha. Yeah you're probably right. I'm looking forward to being able to feel baby move, should be a bit earlier with it being my second 😊

Hjudge56 · 20/01/2023 17:00

@MamaSJ15 i also read online that ‘round ligament pains’ are common at week 13 which i think is a another strong theory! Do you have an inkling what you are having? 🙊

MamaSJ15 · 20/01/2023 20:04

@Hjudge56 I have a feeling its a boy, but I'm not sure if that's just because all my 3 siblings had a girl first then a boy, have a feeling we'll follow suit! I also put a post up with my scan picture for people to guess and the majority said boy. How about you? Any ideas?

@habiller it starts as a more internal feeling, then as baby gets bigger you can then feel it more on the outside too. The fun starts when you get really big and you can see it moving 😂 initially it can be quite hard to identify but I think you'd know. Is this your first? If so think it's usually 16-20 weeks where you can first feel movement 😊

Hjudge56 · 20/01/2023 20:07

@MamaSJ15 ahh that’s very interesting!!! I have a feeling it’s a girl. We have done a SneakPeak blood test and will get the results early hours of tomorrow morning. I also did a scan test which used 3 different theories which guessed girl too so we shall see!
