@Olegia Hi! I'm having to go for cervical measuring scans over the next couple of weeks as I've previously had 3 LLETZ procedures after some not great smear results. The way I understand stand it is if your cervix measures a certain length or is getting shorter/funnelling over a 2/3 week period, then they will offer to pop in a stitch that is then removed much later in pregnancy. I'm trying to stay calm and put my faith in my consultant to keep both me and the baby safe which is helping me not panic too much for the moment. Have they given you any idea about next steps or any further monitoring?

Chickadee30 · 13/01/2023 09:07

Hi all! Had my 12 weeks scan this week & was hoping to announce but then had no results from my Harmony test so am waiting for second test results! Am 41 and this is my third so anxious about the logistics of it all!

Anyone else already have 2+ kids here? 👀

Does anyone know if there are threads/groups for mums to be based on location too? I'm West london if anyone else is around that area! 🙂

Chickadee30 · 13/01/2023 09:10

I did in a previous pregnancy. It was a big worry but the only thing you can do is get yourself in to Epu for a scan. It's more common than peopke realuse but of course always so worrying when it's you. Sending lots of love 💕

Yes indeed, they said they'd like to monitor it, and repeat measurements at 20 weeks, which seems like an awfully long time from now. So I called the midwives who booked me in to do a repeat measurement at 17+5 weeks.
The gynecologist didn't offer much more explanation than that it needs to be monitored..

My worry is that it will shorten significantly in the meantime, and that this isn't caught in time. This is also my first pregnancy, so I don't have the 'history of preterm labour/early loss', for them to be prompted to do anything!

clouise30 · 13/01/2023 09:37

@Olegia I think if it was me I would ask in the meantime if there is anything you can do to prevent risks in the next few weeks like pelvic rest, no sex etc? I imagine it's a balancing act from their side of wanting to monitor to keep you both safe but also having to leave enough time to re measure to see if there have been changes! It's such a scary time so to get unexpected news on top isn't fun at all! Sending hugs

Olegia · 13/01/2023 09:43

@clouise30 yes that's exactly what I asked, she said no there isn't much that I can personally do except to minimise intense physical activity and rest a lot.
They haven't mentionned no sex, but I can't imagine it would be good for it, so I'd rather avoid it to be sure. I do have a check-up with them next week thursday, so will ask those questions again
Thanks!

PS: If I may ask, what were your Cervical lenght measurements and at which weeks? (if you know) 💙

Mummy2Girls22 · 13/01/2023 09:43

@EmmRach I have just got my result through the post now it says they were tested on the 10th so the day after my scan so I imagine yours won't be far behind 😃 @Chickadee30 3rd baby for me too but nearly an 8 year age gap from our last 🙈 I still think we're crazy for doing this all again 🤣 xx

clouise30 · 13/01/2023 10:04

@Olegia it sounds like you're doing everything you can from your side and that they are on it so try and not worry too much - I know it's easier said than done!!

I actually don't know yet - my first cervix scan is next Wednesday and I'll be 15+6 then! Trying to be cautiously optimistic as before my last LLETZ my gynaecologist comment about really good healing and how my cervix had grown back (sorry TMI) which apparently is quite rare 🤷🏼‍♀️! But since then I have had more removed so it's just a waiting game. Would love to avoid a stitch but if needs must it'll be fine I'm sure! Pregnancy is fun hey 😂!

Olegia · 13/01/2023 10:23

@clouise30 Oh interesting, I hadn't heard of a cervix being able to grow back!
Ok, good luck with the scan and keep us updated (if you want)!
Pregnancy is all sorts of fun indeed 😅

Yes I trust that I am still early enough in pregnancy that it wouldn't shorten too much between 14 and 17 weeks (especially if they check women for the first time only around this time - if they've had history in the past)

Hjudge56 · 13/01/2023 10:45

I was finding it hard to assess the different gender theories so I did this online test and this is the result! I guess we will see when I have my gender scan! Has anyone else done something like this and it been right?

BackOfTheMum5net · 13/01/2023 12:24

An NIPT aka a harmony test is the next thing to consider - it stands for Non Invasive Prenatal Test so they just take some blood.

But given that your results mark you as less than a third of a per cent likely as having those conditions, it would probably be a waste of money.

Amyp1234 · 13/01/2023 16:30

Hi all, so after bleeding and spotting for 6 days I had a private scan today that showed that the baby was fine. Heard the heartbeat and the little cutie was moving around. She even did a 4d scan!! She said she noticed a small area of blood between the baby sac and the bladder. But said its not a concern. Said to bedrest for 2 weeks and I can go back for a free scan next week if the bleeding doesn't subside.

rach971 · 13/01/2023 21:40

Super stressed! Daughter has strep A, which can be very serious if it gets into blood stream or uterus. I'm currently on progesterone pessaries so having to put them in twice a day. Washed my hands so many times before doing it tonight but I'm so paranoid 😫 I always wash my hands thoroughly before anyway but she's been unwell for a couple days and we only found out it's strep today. Typical that after the miscarriage in August I'm having a perfectly healthy pregnancy and then she gets that 😫😫

candycrush789 · 14/01/2023 07:49

I’m nearly 14 weeks and I’m suffering bad with headaches does anyone else? Usually I’d take a couple of paracetamol for migraines but they’re not allowed in pregnancy so has anyone got any other remedies? 😩😩😩

candycrush789 · 14/01/2023 07:50

@rach971 i hope your daughter is ok and gets better soon! I never knew the risks to pregnancy with strep a. Maybe contact your midwife to see what she recommends or even just to ease your mind a bit. Sending you and your daughter lots of love xxxx

BackOfTheMum5net · 14/01/2023 07:57

You are able to take paracetamol while pregnant- it’s pretty much the only thing we’re allowed! Hope you feel better soon.

Chickadee30 · 14/01/2023 09:01

i'm suffering with then this week (about to hit 13 weeks) and been using forehead roll on stuff). It does seem to help for a short while but it's not perfect 😕

Chickadee30 · 14/01/2023 09:02

oh dear - i didn't know strep A caused a tick to pregnancy. Have you spoken with your doc about it? If really worried could you use surgical gloves each time you had to insert?

Rutennotou · 14/01/2023 09:33

@candycrush789 You can take paracetamol but not the likes of ibuprofen etc. I have the headaches too, have tried to increase my water intake and I take aspirin everyday so trying to avoid taking anything else xx

Going away for the night, child free apart from the one I'm carrying 🤣 Just going about an hour away to a nice hotel, looking forward to the change of scenery even if all I can do is sniff the proscecco in the room haha

candycrush789 · 14/01/2023 09:35

@Rutennotou paracetamol doesn’t even touch the sides 😩😩 I’ve been recommended 4head stick which I’m gonna try and drinking more water. If it doesn’t pass I will phone my doctor cos it’s making me not be able to function xx

Hjudge56 · 14/01/2023 09:53

Hey everyone!

can anyone recommend one of the online brands that do blood tests to find out the gender early? Wondering if anyone has done them before!

Coffeeforlife · 14/01/2023 11:27

@Chickadee30 this will be my third boy. The logistics are going to interesting....

Ballygowenwater · 14/01/2023 12:39

@candycrush789 i’d call the midwife or pop into the pharmacy for a blood pressure check. Headache that won’t go away with paracetamol can be a sign of high blood pressure.

candycrush789 · 14/01/2023 13:20

@Ballygowenwater ive always had low blood pressure been monitored by drs for it so I’d be very surprised if it’s high! I’ve bought myself a blood pressure monitor from Amazon that arrives tomorrow. It’s eased a bit but I still don’t feel well 😩 the 2nd trimester so far has been worst then the 1st xx

Paracetamol is absolutely fine in pregnancy!
