@firstlittleone we have the old grosnug from before The Gro company was bought by tommee tippee.
I'm getting the clothes out the loft at the weekend and I'll take a look if I can see it in the label.
They're very thin, I'd say they're 0.5 maybe, 1 at a push.
Does it not say very very small on the inner washing label/care instructions?

I did think it felt thin but nothing anywhere on the internet that suggests the tog nor on the label anywhere 🤦🏼‍♀️

Cats23 · 06/01/2023 11:35

Just started watching call midwife, 1st episode was a pre eclampsia case baby born at 30 weeks- survived.
4th episode eclampsia 27weeks both mother and baby die.
Bit close to home.😬

TeddyBeans · 06/01/2023 12:03

@Cats23 eek! I find it really hard to watch some of these things, turn into a right emotional wreck. I wasn't this emotional last time right. Can understand why it would affect you so much though, literally could have been you 😱

iratepirate · 06/01/2023 13:19

Oh gosh, I don’t think I could watch any of those things 😔

I’m just ticking through each day tbh.

havanamama · 06/01/2023 13:27

I once tried to watch that One born every minute program, and stopped when they had an episode where the mum said to her husband that during an examination the midwife had put her entire hand inside her. 🫣

Katdemar · 06/01/2023 13:29

My midwife told me to actively avoid watching stuff about child birth!

Doesn't always help when it appears in a TV show where you don't always see it coming. House of the Dragon was particularly brutal.

That's a good idea to avoid it. At the end of the day no birth is the same, and hopefully we all will have a positive experience.

TeddyBeans · 06/01/2023 13:36

I find it reassuring to watch how they deal with different situations. I've watched about 20 episodes of one born now and there's only been one neonatal death to probably 100+ good births. I was in floods for that one but I'm tearing up at every single birth at the moment, every time the baby does their first cries it sets me off 😂 I'm a right pansy

Did anyone watch the new series Belfast midwives it's on channel 4 (5 episodes). I found it was really good they show lots of csections and induction process which was interesting.

havanamama · 06/01/2023 13:38

Talking about the first cry - I was really surprised from the few episodes I saw, how long it takes in average for the baby to start crying!
In movies it's always the moment they come out, but in the documentary series it's a while until the baby makes a noise!

TeddyBeans · 06/01/2023 13:43

Yes it can take a while. DS took a while to start crying properly, he had fluid in his lungs and was struggling to clear it. He had a good APGAR though so everything else must have been spot on 😊

@GreenIsle I watched it all, couldn't turn it off but don't know if it has helped me or not. The closer I get, the more nervous / anxious I am about my C-section. 🙈

havanamama · 06/01/2023 15:54

I'm focusing on the 4th trimester and learning about looking after a baby, as after all the birth will be max a matter of days and all I can really do is have knowledge of the people that could be in the room, potential interventions, pain relief and breathing techniques.

The NHS postnatal brochure book was actually quite informative, and I'm finishing off my Lucy Atkins First Time Parent book. Tomorrow an online course on baby safety and breastfeeding.
Aiming to have all learning / preparation done in January and then use February for resting and loads of dates with husband. 😊

I used to work on labour ward & only dealt with emergencies as I was scrub nurse for theatre.

so I’ve never seen a natural birth - but lots of horrendous ones. I was always running to theatre plus my first birth was horrendous. So my anxiety is currently sky high..I also used to do the c sections & my partner is like chill out as I have to have one, but I know every step and every bit that can go wrong.

they say nurses are the worst patients and I think this is why. I pray for the patience of everyone on the day I go in for my c section 🤣

ignorance is deffo bliss. My midwife who I used to work with suggested hypnobirthing to try get in a more positive mind set - even tho I’m having c section so going to start reading up on that x

GreenIsle · 06/01/2023 16:20

It can also be helpful to see the realities of childbirth through those shows also because it helps you to be more open minded of how things can go and also put less pressure on yourself to have the 'ideal birth' whatever that may be for you. It might also help to reduce any feelings of trauma after if you understand how things can literally go the opposite of how you wanted because it can just turn very quickly.

The Belfast midwives series goes into detail about why they are doing what they are doing which I found brilliant with each family, Such as why an emergency C-section was needed for one women and forceps for another whilst it's taking place. It helps I think with the medical thinking behind these things.

Dreamingof3 · 06/01/2023 18:18

I've watched all of one born every minute, Emma Willis delivering babies and there was one called Yorkshire midwives I think?! Just started the Belfast one. I find I'd rather know all the different situations that can come up and how they're handles than go in blind, but I know not everyone works like that

ChristmasJumpers · 06/01/2023 18:35

I have really enjoyed The Belfast Midwives because it really focuses on the whys and what's rather than the families. Lots more focus on the process and the midwives decision making which puts my mind at ease

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 06/01/2023 21:53

@havanamama having had a forcep delivery before my only birth plan this time round is no forceps 😬

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 06/01/2023 21:57

I've just caught up on a whole thread 😂 you've all made me realise how little prep I've done but as it's my second I guess I kind of know what to expect a bit more.

I haven't bought anything yet (29 weeks today) but I've made a list of my hospital bag. That's enough right 😅

havanamama · 06/01/2023 22:03

If anyone doesn't mind sharing their + baby's hospital bag checklist, I would really appreciate it as a FTM ☺️

Oh dear haha did you have the low, medium, or high forceps?

havanamama · 06/01/2023 22:05

I've had some nesting achievements today 😄 all baby clothes, towels, bedding, etc is now washed! That took forever but I wanted to was everything that was 0-3 months as well.

I have no idea 😂 he still has scars from them. He was very stuck. And 10lbs. I think it was quite traumatic for my husband too. He said the force they used to pull the forceps was nuts. It was the final attempt before a c section and I was already prepped in theatre.

ChristmasJumpers · 06/01/2023 22:07

@havanamama low, medium and high forceps?! 😳 do I even want to know?
