@firstlittleone I haven't been able to find a specific tog rating, only this phrase 'Cosy Version - For use in standard rooms 16-20°' which makes me think it might be a 2/2.5 tog

@Babynum2 I was told I wasn't allowed a water birth once I got to delivery suite but I was encouraged to get in the bath while on labour ward. Might be worth asking if you can spend some of your early labour in the bath at least?

its actually a ‘grosnug’ (??) it was given to us by a friend so no packaging with it unfortunately!
ive seen the same wording as you online 🤞🏼

Babynum2 · 05/01/2023 21:31

@TeddyBeans That's what I done last time at home I had a bath while I waited for things to pick up but this time I have to go straight in so we will just see what happenes. All I know is I'm really not looking forward to giving birth again now it's so close

LittleAcorn20 · 05/01/2023 21:40

@firstlittleone we have the old grosnug from before The Gro company was bought by tommee tippee.
I'm getting the clothes out the loft at the weekend and I'll take a look if I can see it in the label.
They're very thin, I'd say they're 0.5 maybe, 1 at a push.
Does it not say very very small on the inner washing label/care instructions?

Katlouise24 · 06/01/2023 01:38

Does anyone have any recommendations on sterilisers? We have an electric tommee tippee one but reading up about the milton cold water one currently...this is my first baby so not sure what would suit us best x

Room4onemore · 06/01/2023 03:19

@Katlouise24 i recommend the Milton cold water steriliser, I’ve used one for my last 3 pregnancies. So easy to use, fill with water, pop a steriliser tablet in and it’s good for 24 hours. Just pop your bottles in at anytime .

Rose429 · 06/01/2023 03:22

Sorry if this sounds gross but I just got woken up for the third night in a row by this horrible urge to for a number 2. But nothing has come out, just the pain 😭 It is painful in the morning when I do my usual poo as well, but being woken up in the middle of the night for nothing isn’t fun!

Choc2022 · 06/01/2023 06:03

Must be something in the air. Major insomnia, 6am and am still awake. I have GD but for around 2 weeks now (esp around Christmas) I've been really lax around testing and walks and diet. Eating ok but not as good as when first diagnosed and treating myself more than allowed. I also have a baby in 90th centile and 5 foot 1. Just randomly read up about shoulder dystocia and majorly majorly freaked myself out. Back ti hardcore GD friendly diet and exercise tomorrow for sure!! The labour and giving birth process sounds absolutely terrifying!!

Blocklynn · 06/01/2023 07:01

@Katlouise24 my sister uses a Milton cold water steriliser. She would recommend it. I can’t stand the smell, the bottles still smelt really strongly to me once they had been taken out of the solution.

Franklin321 · 06/01/2023 07:12

@Katlouise24 its mostly just personal choice really! I used an electric one/had mam bottles you can sterilise in the microwave and will do the same this time round! I just bought enough bottles to last the day and then washed and sterilised them once. If you take them out of the steriliser and put the bottles together (lid on etc) then they stay sterile for 24hrs. I would just grab what I needed then as and when and they were ready to use! You have to be careful with dummies straight out of the electric one as they’ll be really hot so could get a little pot with Milton in for them if you’re using dummies

Babynum2 · 06/01/2023 09:01

Aldi baby event is always really good and I've seen they have the upright bath seat for 12.99 I got last time they also have changing matt for 3.99 even if you get for spare upstairs or downstairs such a bargain. I got literally everything from aldi last time around.

TeddyBeans · 06/01/2023 09:08

I have a tommee tippee electric steriliser from last time. It was great. Pop everything in, fill it up, push the button and off it goes. I don't think I used it 100% correctly - I think when you open it to take a bottle out it's no longer sterile but it never caused an issue with DS so planning on doing the same again this time.

GP has called already this morning! He's happy to do me a prescription for omeprazole so I'm excited to pick that up later 🥳

For those that are planning to formula feed - what do you pack for that in your hospital bag?

I am not keen on the idea of breastfeeding but I’ll give it a go, but want to be prepared in case I hate it and want to FF after first try of BF, but have to stay in hospital for a few nights.

We bought 12 pre-made bottles of our chosen milk and have packed those.
Partner will nip home for a tin of powder if we're in longer, just figured the pre-made would give us less to worry about in the period immediately following birth.
The birth centre we've chosen has a little lounge station with facilities to make up bottles so should be relatively simple once we've recovered from birth.

havanamama · 06/01/2023 09:25

@botleybump thank you!
With the newborn tummies being so small, I was not sure how far the ready to drink 200ml bottles would go.

TeddyBeans · 06/01/2023 09:30

I have these bottles. They come with sterile teats and are 70ml so perfect for tiny first feeds. Other brands are available 😂

@TeddyBeans oh that’s convenient! Would you bring 6 or 12 as PP with you to the hospital?

TeddyBeans · 06/01/2023 09:40

@havanamama I have 12. I took one box last time and we ended up staying in for an extra day so had to send then partner out to get another box. I'd rather have too many than not enough 😁

OP posts:
Dreamingof3 · 06/01/2023 09:41

I'm planning on taking those too. I'm going to take a box of 6 in with me and have another box in the car in case we need it

havanamama · 06/01/2023 09:42

Thank you, this is very helpful! 😊

At this rate my hospital bag will be a suitcase 😂 how else are we supposed to fit a pillow, dressing gown, wipes, peri bottles, etc 🤪

botleybump · 06/01/2023 09:42

@havanamama we're using Kendamil and bought the 70ml bottles too for the same reason.
The bits we'd read said that's still a lot for their little tummies and will likely be wastage, but we figured the smaller ones would feel less wasteful and bought 12 to keep up with the turn over.

TeddyBeans · 06/01/2023 09:45

Another infographic! This one is actually useful though 😂

Found this and got more confused - it says 90ml 6x in 24h period for a newborn.

But aren't newborns supposed to be fed every 2h around the clock? 🧐

I take those with a pinch of salt. The best thing you can do is make up a bottle and let them drink what they want to drink. I fed DS on demand and from birth to about 4 months he drank well under what they suggested and then from 4 months he turned into a milk guzzler and drank more than they said
