How did you find NCT @Perexi ? I did an antenatal course for DD but don’t feel I can justify the cost as a second time mum! I’m still in contact with the girls from mine 4 years on which is lovely.

We're only one session in, all about birth and the anatomy of it all but I think that really helped settle my head a bit! There's a feeding session this weekend which I'm hoping will be super helpful! We're mainly doing it for the friendships like most people and to get some basic knowledge! It is expensive though so I can see why most people only do it once!

That's lovely that you're still in touch with them!

A few friends have also recommended the peanut app for making local friends with young babies. Which could be a good option too!

Morning all

Had my 28 week midwife appointment today (although i'm actually 29+2). First time i've had fundal height measured and it was way above the 97th percentile on the graph at 32 centimetres! Midwife didn't say anything about it at all and didn't even tell me, just marked it on a graph and gave me back my notes. Is it something i should be concerned about? Baby was actually measuring small on the 31st percentile at the last scan so i'm surprised it was so high.

I think it's pretty hit and miss and only a rough guide, I measured small so had to have a scan and he's actually on the 87th percentile so I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

My midwife told me that the tape measurement is tracking the mum and then growth scans for baby.

As long as you're on the chart, it should be fine, but if you're worried just give her a phone call.

Flittingaboutagain · 11/01/2023 12:55

Firstly, doing anything without consent and explanation, recording it in your notes without a word is just poor practice. She should be putting it in context you. Secondly, I believe midwives are only concerned if your bump suddenly jumps below or above centile lines but the measurements are incredibly subjective so another mw might measure you bigger or smaller anyway.

Agree with this. In a previous pregnancy I had a diff midwife one week and she measured fh as being bigger than it had been tracking, which triggered a consultant app and all kinds of shoulder size panic etc.

Following apt my usual midwife was back and measurements were back on track.

Babynum2 · 11/01/2023 13:27

@Shep21 welcome!

I don't think it can ever be to soon to pack its only a bag! You can always add/remove stuff as you go along. I had my first at 36 weeks spontaneously and was running around packing in labour.

Dreamingof3 · 11/01/2023 13:59

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark she should've mentioned to you really, but I think if you're having growth scans the result is a bit irrelevant as they will be more accurate. My midwife isn't doing fundal height as I'm having scans

havanamama · 11/01/2023 14:25

Is anyone planning to do perineal massage? Or perhaps did it and had a VB without tears?

Shep21 · 11/01/2023 15:41

Very surprised you haven’t been sent for a scan? I was measured small by the midwife and sent for a growth scan which showed baby around 45th centile. I’ve just had a follow up and been discharged from the assessment unit as baby is growing on track now. However, I’ve been told if she grows too much or too little when fundal height is measured I’ll be referred back for more scans.

If you’ve got any concerns or don’t have scans booked I’d definitely ring the maternity unit and ask if they feel it should be a concern! Hope you get sorted!

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 11/01/2023 15:56

Thanks all, I've got my first growth scan booked in 2 weeks anyway so i'll raise it when i go there. I have a high BMI so i'm assuming its more because of that than the babies actual size, the midwife just seemed to completely glaze over it!

TeddyBeans · 11/01/2023 16:26

Restless legs have kicked in early today 😬 DP's got an electrician coming at 5 for a quote so I can't even hop in the bath early 😱😱😱 I don't know what to doooooo

I doubt it. My BMI is very high, but bump was measuring 32 at 31+5, so quite close.

Dreamingof3 · 11/01/2023 16:32

So I'm sure I know the answer the this..but at what point do you call about a change in movements?

I'm getting movements...but I'd say definitely less than normal but it's more they feel different...not as strong. I do have an anterior placenta so fully likely that she's moved positions to where I can't feel it as much. But when do you not assume that's what it is?

Flittingaboutagain · 11/01/2023 16:36

In your shoes I would have a hot or cold drink or sugary snack then check your kicks counter again once baby is inclined to have moved. Different is fine, it's less or more I have been checked for previously.

What week are you?

I'm 32 weeks and my midwife said movements should be felt at the same frequency now till the end of pregnancy, however, there will be less jab and kick sensations due to less space.

30 weeks!
I'm finding it hard to judge this one. I would say it's only been the last 3 weeks or so that I've felt proper regular movements, where the baby has moved out from behind my placenta.
I'm going to concentrate on them while I'm getting the kids dinner ready etc and see where we are then

Sorry I missed this! My fundal height was above 97th when I was measured at my 28 week appointment (actually 29+1) and measured 30.5cm so not way above but still larger than should be. Midwife and I both agreed it's because I have extra weight around my middle and as long as she stayed on that sort of trajectory it would be fine.

At my next appointment it had dropped to being right on the 97th and she said if it dropped again she'd send me for a growth scan. I've got them anyway and she's waaaaay smaller than my fundal height so I wouldn't worry too much about it 😊

I haven’t had my fundal height measured yet, I phoned the midwives this morning to ask if I should’ve seen them since my last appointment at 9 weeks and they panicked and booked me in for next week 🙄 doesn’t inspire confidence does it?

TeddyBeans · 11/01/2023 17:38

@Dreamingof3 how's it going? If you're not happy don't hesitate to call!

9 WEEKS!? Fuck me that's awful! I've had about 6 appointments since then!

I’ve only seen midwife twice this time around and they’ve not bothered with fundal height either time, as they both said that scans are more accurate. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Did you not get any blood or urine tests done at all since week 9?!

I didn’t get a midwife appointment til about wk25 and then again last week (31).
They took blood and urine both times but didn’t measure.
I keep having appointments cancelled on the day as they don’t have the staff at the moment, which does have me a bit worried about the actual delivery, but will just have to see how it goes.

TeddyBeans · 11/01/2023 18:21

@iratepirate that's shocking as well! I'd be horrified! 😱
