@havanamama we did The Scarlett hotel and spa in Cornwall in October and I'd highly recommend!
They have a pregnancy break option which includes a massage lesson for you both, pregnancy focused treatments, pregnancy safe food, and temperature adjusted cliff top hot tubs for you to enjoy!

The hotel is beautiful, the spa is lovely, the views are relaxing and it felt great to just be 'normal' for a bit and not worry about what I could and couldn't do!

Reading your comments about pgp makes me think I might have been suffering from this. I just presumed I'd pulled a muscles at the ante natal yoga class but it sounds like yours
Anything we can do to make it better?
Also any tips for heartburn? Mine has suddenly got awful and the rennies aren't helpful

Deut28 · 09/01/2023 16:53

@ChristmasJumpers I have PGP too. Mine is in my sacroiliac joint and my pubic symphysis, but the physio definitely asked about pain spreading into my thighs when I was first assessed.

ChristmasJumpers · 09/01/2023 16:53

@havanamama Mine is just the same, turning in bed, climbing the stairs, basically any walking and especially getting out of the car! All really sore. I'll mention it to them again

My physio is tomorrow, I'll share any tips

@havanamama can I ask what does your PGP feel like? I told my midwife I had pain at the very top of my thighs and that it spreads down them and is painful to walk & put on shoes. She said she thought nerve pain because of babies position but I know baby has turned since then as I had a private scan. The pain is only getting worse and I'm sure it fits the bill for PGP

Sounds more like baby is pressing on a nerve laid funny. I’ve had bad SPD from 17 weeks. My pubic bone at the front where it joins has a burning pain right through it when I stand or move my legs go upstairs etc. I also get pain where my pelvis joins at the back and it’s a similar acute burning pain through the bone joints x

Deut28 · 09/01/2023 17:01

General recommendations for PGP are:

  • sleeping with a pillow between your legs
  • sitting on a plastic bag in the car to help you swivel your legs out together
  • avoiding weight-bearing on one leg, so get dressed sitting down
  • Yoga ball
  • pelvic floor exercises and other strengthening exercises (physio should be able to tailor these to you)
  • heat/ice can bring some relief
  • some women find swimming helps, but breaststroke legs can aggrevate it...

I didn't have much luck with physio but have seen some improvement from manual therapy by an osteopath specialising in women's health.

@Thirdtimesacharm3 hoping for a homebirth (second time mum), need to wait for sign off from consultant at 36 weeks. Only high risk because DD was 8th centile. This one currently tracking 90th centile at 32 weeks.

I started a bit of a post/thread on the FB group if you're on it. One of the ladies shared a great Homebirth FB group that's very insightful for info.
Also read Why Homebirth Matters by Natalie Meddings to see if that helps you make a choice. The book is very balanced I found.

My local community team are able to supply me with a pool so I know I will have a pool and two dedicated midwives at my house if staffing permits. I'm planning in my head for back up option of MLU if staffing doesn't permit on the day.

Like someone else mentioned I really freak out at the lack of staff in hospitals. My friend is a midwife and she says the way in which she is torn backwards and forwards between delivery rooms some shifts is scary. I like the idea of having two dedicated midwives available, my own home comforts.

Absolutely have to keep an open mind though for other options based on my risk a little further along in pregnancy, midwife availability etc. I'm currently in the process of packing a hospital bag and a home birth 'box' and trying to stay open minded for each.

OMEPRAZOLE! I've been taking it for 4 days and I am sold completely! Been struggling on for months with my heartburn and finally decided a full night's sleep was worth taking another tablet and holy bejeebers it's incredible. I haven't had a single episode of heartburn for 4 days!

Is this on prescription or over the counter??

TeddyBeans · 09/01/2023 20:12

Apparently there's an OTC version but I just called my doctor and asked for something for pregnancy related heartburn

I've just had another look at my growth chart and little lady is plotting just above 10th centile... I'm starting to freak out at the possibility of her having IUGR (damn me for mentioning it in a previous post). I think that's why they've called me back next week instead of waiting the 4 weeks. Has anyone had IUGR? DS was born on the 65th centile line so I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with small babies

Was going to write my hospital list tonight so I could go shopping tomorrow but I’m in the bath because I can’t get comfortable again

My little one is also been marked at the 10th centile and I've a further growth scan next week to see how she's growing.

However my other dd was born at 7lb 1 so I think perhaps I just grow them that way. We will see.

TeddyBeans · 09/01/2023 21:42

@Room4onemore write a list on your phone? I'm in the bath too, it does good things for my restless legs

@GreenIsle mines on Thursday (19th) DS was 8lbs 4oz but he has a different dad so maybe that's why? I don't really know. Good luck for your scan, hope she's grown!

OP posts:
GreenIsle · 09/01/2023 21:47

@TeddyBeans I never thought of it as iugr and I've just googled and scared myself a bit. Midwife's didn't mention anything just need to do a rescan.

My son was 7lbs 8 which i thought was quite light for full term boy so fingers crossed it's just me and nothing serious.

I have to ring on Monday to book the scan because I'm in the middle of transferring hospitals.

TeddyBeans · 09/01/2023 21:50

@GreenIsle oh no I'm sorry! 🙈 I didn't mean to make you worry! The consultant didn't say anything to me either, just that she's a bit on the small side so he didn't want to wait 4 weeks to scan her again

OP posts:
GreenIsle · 09/01/2023 21:59

@TeddyBeans can I ask what your baby's tummy measurements were like if that's ok.

Based on baby's head she was on 10th centile and measuring 2.5 weeks behind but tummy measurements were accurate for my dates. So could even just be a small head.

My daughter was born in the first centile! I was induced at 41+2 and she was 6lb exactly. She's 5 now and is one of the tallest in her class. They knew she was small and I was scammed every fortnight to make sure her growth was moving along ok so just meant I got extra checkups. ☺️

Babynum2 · 09/01/2023 22:21

Just put a puppy pad down under sheet on bed because my waters went in bed the last 2 times and I'm not making the same mistake again 😂

TeddyBeans · 09/01/2023 22:26

@GreenIsle her belly is almost as big as her head! Head was 290.6mm (19th centile) and her belly was 298.8mm (84th centile) which I've been informed can be an indicator for GD as well 🤦‍♀️ I can't catch a break!

@Babynum2 oh that's a good idea! I flooded my hospital bed when mine went 🤣
