We took our mums to a 3D scan today, it was so lovely 🥰 I already think baby girl has her dad's face shape

What a cutie 🥰🥰

Eee just catching up on this thread!

Everyone seems so organised, I’m feeling the opposite. 33 weeks tomorrow and haven’t made any start on packing or prepping really, didn’t imagine I’d feel sooo much less prepared second time around.

We did manage to get all the early months stuff out of the loft over Christmas (although we’ve moved house since our first and all the newborn swaddles/sleeping bags seem to have disappeared!).

I’ll also be taking plenty of spare sleepsuits (might keep some back in the car) as we got through a whole pack of 7 in our first 24 hours last time 🤯

I also struggled with BF last time but didn’t need to use formula within the first few days in hospital. I think the advice for those wanting to BF would be not to plan to introduce formula so soon as it will impact supply?
I’m going to try BF again this time at least for the first weeks (or until my nips start to fall off 🥴) but put a lot less pressure on myself and hope to have at least an element of combi feeding from early on so husband can help. I also really don’t want to end up with a baby who rejects a bottle if it does go well!

Going to add nappies now to the weekly shop so I feel a little more prepared…

havanamama · 08/01/2023 11:08

@Ubbee what actually happens if a baby rejects the bottle? Do you have to use breast milk banks?

Don’t worry you’ve still plenty of time I’m 32 weeks and moving house next week. So we have 0 stuff sorted for our home let alone baby.

I plan to use the next few weeks sorting the house out and unpacking. Then I’ll pack my bag at 36 weeks.

unless you’ve got a history of prem babies no point packing too early. Packing at 36 weeks is super organised still and more than enough time. Also if you pack too early from previous experience the last few weeks really drag if you’re on mat leave so good to have bits to sort and do xx

Ubbee · 08/01/2023 11:20

@havanamama the only people who I’ve known this happen to are the ones who have established breastfeeding really well and then try to introduce a bottle later and baby rejects it. So you just continue BF.

Ubbee · 08/01/2023 11:24

@Blondewave thank you!! Yes you’re right, there is still plenty of time!
I’ve set a reminder for 36 weeks to get packed ☺️
At the moment I’m due to stop work 10 days before my DD so will hopefully have some time to fill then as no. 1 was pretty much on time (although I don’t know if that means no. 2 is likely to be similar?!)

I hope your move goes well! Sounds like you will be very busy!

havanamama · 08/01/2023 11:26

Question for non-FTMs : did your midwife/doctor team read your birth plan? How many copies did you print out?

Ubbee · 08/01/2023 11:42

@havanamama I arrived at hospital 9cm dilated and was rushed into the labour ward as the birth centre was full - didn’t get a chance to even think about sharing this!

iratepirate · 08/01/2023 11:49

@havanamama they didn’t ask for or look at it when I went in. We only had a midwife for the birth, no doctor and went home before we saw one.

@Ubbee you’ve got lots of time. I packed mine on the day I knew I’d be going in.

Room4onemore · 08/01/2023 12:09

I think we have a name 😬 just trying think of a middle name to go with it

TeddyBeans · 08/01/2023 12:27

@Room4onemore oooh fancy sharing? Maybe we can help? 😁

@TeddyBeans we are having Nancie

allthingssparkly · 08/01/2023 12:54

Hey @TeddyBeans that is super organised of you having your bag done by 24 weeks. I have been concentrating on baby's nursery, getting the final touches sorted in baby's room, should be done by next week which is a big thing ticked off my list. I am going to write a hospital bag list today 😊 32 weeks tomorrow so I best make some progress 😆

Dreamingof3 · 08/01/2023 12:56

@Room4onemore love it! Any family names you'd like to link in for the middle name? Or names you like but not quite enough for a first name?

allthingssparkly · 08/01/2023 13:03

Can ladies post some of their items they're putting in their hospital bag please? It's nearly 8 years ago since I did this, so my brain needs reminding! 😖

TeddyBeans · 08/01/2023 13:23

@allthingssparkly If you pop back to page 10 I think, I posted my hospital bag lists and others have posted their items in the subsequent posts 😊 excellent work on getting the nursery sorted! DD will be in with us and then going straight into DS' room so there's not much for us to do for her

Love it!! As @Dreamingof3 said, any family members you want to honour?

OP posts:
allthingssparkly · 08/01/2023 13:51

Ooo thanks @TeddyBeans I will take a look back 😊

I've been itching to get the room done 😆 and although baby won't be in there straight away, it's just a nice feeling to know its nearly complete 🤍

Have much you got much more to do before baby's arrival? X

TeddyBeans · 08/01/2023 14:33

@allthingssparkly not much at all I don't think, cot's up and ready. We left DS's toddler bed up in his room when we moved him into a single bed back in November so that's ready for when she moves into his room. We've taken all the newborn equipment from my parents loft and set it all up. All her clothes are washed and away in her wardrobe. Literally think we're just waiting for her to make her appearance now 🤔

It's a lovely feeling having things ready! I'd love to see your nursery if you're happy to share?

OP posts:
allthingssparkly · 08/01/2023 14:55

Ah, so exciting that your pretty much ready for her arrival 🥰 when are you due?

Absolutely I will upload some photos at some point this coming week, just awaiting a couple more bits to arrive and then it's done ✔️ well minus a nice chair for one corner as I can't yet find one I'm happy with 😆 x

Blondewave · 08/01/2023 15:38

havanamama · 08/01/2023 11:26

Question for non-FTMs : did your midwife/doctor team read your birth plan? How many copies did you print out?

No - birth is a very unplanned thing most the time & they will ask you at the time does dad want to cut the cord etc.
My birth plan actually made me feel so let down. As everything I wrote I didn’t want I had to have due to neccisity of babies welfare and mine. Dad didn’t get to cut cord as my son was resuscitated. So In hind sight an open mind set is probably better mentally.

only thing they will really take note of is if you don’t want the baby to have vitamin k, if you want delayed cord clamping and if you are doing something such as taking placenta home for pills / religious reasons etc.

I won’t be doing a birth plan this time xx

havanamama · 08/01/2023 16:09

I don't want any students present - that's my main thing for birth plan

TeddyBeans · 08/01/2023 16:12

@allthingssparkly 26th Feb but with all the growth scans and stuff they're making me have I won't be surprised if she's a lot earlier for some convoluted reason. I never had space for a rocking chair, would have loved one 😭 here's little lady's cot

@allthingssparkly I've since found a zebra muslin to cover the mattress with (idk why companies make mattresses in odd sizes and then don't make sheets for them!?)

OP posts:
Dreamingof3 · 08/01/2023 16:23

I feel so unorganised. We have clothes piled in a corner as weve not bought drawers or a wardrobe yet....and we've still go the pram in there and our airer for the washing 😂
