@Dreamingof3 what size nappies have you bought? Just wondered, as I’ve got an Asda shopping delivery on the way and I’ve ordered 2 packs of size 1 newborn nappies but had an email to say they’ve substituted them for size 2 newborn. Would you say these would be too big?

havanamama · 07/01/2023 12:05

I've got loads of nappies in size 1 so far as I think it will take a bit of time for baby to be 5kg

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 07/01/2023 12:24

@ChristmasJumpers I’m the same, people laugh I kind of have a genuine phobia of breastfeeding and the thought of milk actually coming out of me makes me want to vom 😂

Perexi · 07/01/2023 12:39

I'm going to try to breastfed although the thought of it and all the stories about how difficult and painful it is fills me with anxiety if im honest. I have the NCT breastfeeding class next Saturday and we have to bring a doll to practice with and I'm already finding it all a bit cringy 😂

I'm hoping that I can atleast do it for a few weeks for the health benefits but I'm not putting any pressure on myself! I bought some nipple shields today as a friend said they really help with the pain (my nipples are nowhere near that big though so not sure they will help!)

I'm also taking those premade bottles to hospital incase I can't do it properly and have ordered some bottles as would like him to have a bottle a day after a while (if its formula or expressed milk) I want my partner to be able to feed him too so he gets that bonding time.

I have two packs of size one and wasn't sure if I should then get bigger sizes.... I have no clue how long they last in each size or how many they actually really use a day! I didn't want to end up with loads of the wrong size.

havanamama · 07/01/2023 12:56

I read that young babies have 8-12 nappy changes per day, then bigger babies 6-8

LittleAcorn20 · 07/01/2023 12:58

I think the thought of breastfeeding does make you cringe, but the reality is it's not as weird feeling as you imagine. It's kind of one of those things your brain tells you and the reality is not bad at all.
I fed DD for 11 months and I am already feeling a fair amount of dread/cringe about a baby feeding from me again. But I know it's just a weird psychological thing because the reality is it doesn't actually feel weird in any way when you do it. A bit painful in the early days, but not weird/cringe once you actually do it. Well that's my personal thoughts/experience anyway.

havanamama · 07/01/2023 13:05

Just did a baby safety course too - if anyone else wants free courses, I recommend the Baby Academy UK.

We are doing one of their paid courses on first aid, but all the rest have been free and useful. Definitely gives confidence.

Just to add to hospital bag list..for anyone having c sections.

.I’m packing ear plugs and a sleep mask and Neom pillow spray. Postnatal ward is so loud. I’m also packing a travel kit of nice Elemis minis face stuff to make me feel a bit better & my fave travel size loccitine almond shower oil, black light dressing gown, black sliders and peppermint tea and capsules and arnica tablets as I’m having a c section and they help with bruising and trapped wind after birth. I’m also packing beauty bites snacks from Holland and Barrett..they are for your skin & nails but full of collagen and vitamin E so help with healing after c- section. A black button down nightdress as will have catheter in place for a while and buttons mean can breastfeed and do skin to skin.

we he have Jem & bea back pack changing bag as our baby bag for all babies stuff then I’m just packing mine in an overnight mulberry bag I’ve had for years (so it’s pretty small like an oversized hand bag!) I’m going to go in my outfit I’ll be going home in to save space.

I did it mega budget with my first son - and used stuff I already had and cheap knickers, face stuff etc.
However when you feel grim for me personally just a bit of an extra pick me up of luxury things is always nice to make you feel good x

Dreamingof3 · 07/01/2023 13:48

We've gone for size 2 nappies (we buy Aldi) as they say 6lbs-13lbs so seems like a realistic range 😂

BabyNumber3OnTheWay · 07/01/2023 14:07

May just stick with size 2 then as Asdas are the same weight range, thank you everyone. Been nearly 11 years since having my last so it’s literally all new again to me 😂

AK93 · 07/01/2023 14:12

Thank you to everyone putting their hospital bag tips! Writing down as much as I can so I can go through and think what I'd like! I'm an overpacker in general and can imagine it looking like I'm moving in 😆

I'm wondering whether to take my small suitcase instead of a bag for my own bits, as it can be wheeled if carrying anything is difficult.

I'm going to do that - carry on suitcase for labour and hospital stay and then the changing bag for baby girl.
Then when we leave the hospital I can wheel it and husband can carry the car seat.

I'm going to take my small suitcase too. It is easier to organise and have sections for birth, after and then for going home. I will put some plastic bags in too so I can send stuff home once I am finished with it to save space.

Dreamingof3 · 07/01/2023 20:22

I'm planning on taking some of these to organise my hospital bags
If I end up having another section it's nice to know I can just tell my partner which bag to grab. So some will have a vest/sleepsuit in and I'll label the bag with the size..etc

Managed to find this thread eventually 😆

Hope everyone is doing well 😊

When is everyone packing their hospital bag? I need to create a list of things I need for mine its on my list of things to do 🤭

TeddyBeans · 07/01/2023 20:46

@allthingssparkly welcome back! 😁 We've been discussing hospital bags a lot the last couple of days so I think it's high on a lot of priority lists at the moment. Mine have been mostly packed since 24 weeks when I got the protein in my urine. They've been sat in the lounge since and I've been topping them up with 'last minute' bits slowly but surely

Cats23 · 07/01/2023 20:50

Ohh the plastic bag for dirty clothes, ear plugs and eye mask is another must add that I 100% agree with- Thanks for reminding me!

I'm going to take in my wheeled suitcase (its med sized) it will have babies stuff into but in changing bag.

Im going to try and get my mat bag done by end of this week(1st was prem and I had no mat bag prepped) last 3x Ive had it done by 24weeks.

AK93 · 07/01/2023 21:04

Slightly different note to hospital bags but been looking for a blood pressure monitor to use at home (consultant said to do readings at home) that isn’t too expensive, thought I found one with the size cuff I need but a few of the reviews said the readings were way off so I’m now put off that one! I don’t want to have to spend more on an extra cuff if the monitor is already £30 or more so if anyone has one they’d recommend please let me know! I’m trawling Amazon to try to find what I need but getting tired 😆

TeddyBeans · 07/01/2023 21:37

I have an omrom blood pressure machine. It's been very accurate for me. I'm pretty sure I've been to appointments at some point where the clinician has used one so they must be somewhat decent!

I've got a holdall bag for my stuff and 1 suitcase for baby's and DH's stuff. Works for me to put my bag on a chair/the bed so I can reach stuff easily. We've had our bag packed for a few weeks now and just as well because we went to triage for reduced movements this week and I ended up having to stay a few days so the hospital bag was mega useful!!! I recommend YouTube videos for inspiration on what to pack..
