Here’s a new thread for the upcoming new year.

I think we’ve got all due dates covered now but newbies are still of course most welcome. We’re a friendly, chatty bunch so do feel free to join in.

I knowwwww @LMM91x pain in the ring 😂

@PumpkinEverything It has to be sent all the way to California so it'll take a while regardless, but once they receive it they process it within 8 hours rather than 24-48. So that's a plus. I got this sample taken on 22nd and would've got the results today, so that's not bad over Xmas. It's normally 7-10 days to arrive but they told me to expect delays over the holidays but there weren't any in the end. 🤞🏼 for the same this time!

I have NO clue. Everyone around me thinks girl. But that's because out of my two main friendship groups there are 14 boys and 4 girls (with one more girl on the way) so they just think it's time for more girls! And my family is heavily skewed towards girls. If I had all boys I'd be the only person still alive in our entirely family, both immediate and extended who's never had a girl! Not that it means anything and I'd be over the moon with all boys, it just means I'm special ⭐️ hahaha

The muscles in my stomach as so strained! Like I feel like I've been exercising.. very annoying! Especially trying to get comfy!

Lalalul · 31/12/2022 10:04

What excuse is everyone using at work to attend their first scan appointment? I want to hold off telling work until 16 weeks or so as I am trying to get a role in a new department! Don’t want my news to hinder my chances

Cat1424 · 31/12/2022 10:05

Hello!

A bit of a random one but has anyone been experiencing shortness of breath when doing things? I’ve noticed over the last week or so I’m getting out of breath quickly just doing simple things like changing the bed! I go to the gym and have a PT so I’m generally pretty fit.

I also called the place I’m having my scan on Monday and they’ve said I can try an abdominal first if I want, or just go straight to internal. By LMP I’ll be 8+2 on Monday so just wondered what others who have had a scan already would suggest? Im tempted to go straight for the internal as I think I’ll panic if they can’t see anything on the abdominal but not sure what’s best?

PumpkinEverything · 31/12/2022 10:09

@Lalalul im on the fence about just saying I’ve a hospital appointment so that my manager knows what’s coming (I’m only back from maternity leave 2 months 😅😅). Otherwise dentist, opticians?

@Cat1424 you’ll get a clearer photo with internal and you also don’t need to fill up with liquid, they want you to have an empty bladder. So if you’re happy enough to go straight for internal id go for it 😊

Recoba · 31/12/2022 10:14

Feeling pretty frustrated/worried. My spotting has got worse, though still not serious. EPU not open until Tuesday, because heaven forbid in this country that you should get sick and need medical help on a weekend or bank holiday. All the private clinics booked up or closed. Due to be going away on holiday on Monday and now unsure whether to go or wait and see if I can get a scan at the EPU on Tuesday. Gah.

jjeanii · 31/12/2022 10:19

Nic2908 · 30/12/2022 21:45

I’ve had both internal and external, both at the same stage. I have to say the internal was far superior and clearer in terms of imaging at 7+2 v the abdominal one.

Hi I have a scan on the 7th January and I'm 5 weeks 5 days now I think I'm just wondering if the internal is uncomfortable?

overwork · 31/12/2022 10:35

@Cat1424 I've been breathless ever since I found out. During slight exertion, so walking up hill, or fighting with changing the duvet as you've mentioned etc. Mentioned it to the midwife, she didn't say it was normal but also didn't seem worried.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 31/12/2022 10:37

@Recoba my EPU is also close until the new year, but when I had fears around ectopic the gynaecology emergency department saw me. Perhaps seeing if your trust can offer the same.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 31/12/2022 10:37

@jjeanii it is a little uncomfortable but nowhere near as bad as a smear so if you can handle that you will be absolutely fine with an internal 😊

Recoba · 31/12/2022 10:49

@MinnieFirstTimeMum thanks, I had called gynaecology as the recommended out of hours service after the EPU was shut, but they don't do scans at the weekend and didn't think this was an emergency (which, to be fair, I agree with). Thankfully just found a private scan clinic with appointments an hour's drive away, so have booked that. Fingers crossed all is okay.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 31/12/2022 10:50

@Recoba I will keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻

Sjw30 · 31/12/2022 10:51

Fingers crossed for you @Recoba

Recoba · 31/12/2022 10:56

Thanks all. Just double checked the booking and turns out I booked for the 3rd not today.😫
Back to the drawing board.

LMM91x · 31/12/2022 11:06

@Recoba sorry you are having some concerns - it seems it’s always when something can’t be done isn’t it i’e when things are closed!! I hope you find somewhere for a scan to ease your worries xxx

i’ve had a letter re smear - anyone had one whilst pregnant? Is it recommended??

MidnightSunshine12 · 31/12/2022 11:32

@Cat1424 I had an internal scan at 8+2 and thought the picture was really clear. It looked like an actual (alien shaped) baby on the screen even though it was so early so I'd definitely recommend.

Just wear a skirt or dress and whip your knickers off, was far more comfortable than a smear!

Cat1424 · 31/12/2022 11:45

@MidnightSunshine12 that reply made me laugh although I hadn’t thought about that so that’s a good shout 😂

I think I will go for the internal, will end up that way anyway if they can’t see anything on the abdominal! I’m really nervous about it in case there’s no heartbeat! Hope you’re all good!

Amme18 · 31/12/2022 12:06

@Cat1424 @overwork same here with breathlessness! Dr google says it’s the rise
in progesterone. I feel like I did in third trimester where I had no room to breath, between the bloat and the breathlessness I’m so uncomfortable already 😫

ChloeN · 31/12/2022 12:08

@LMM91x i don’t think you should have a smear when pregnant? From what I’ve heard I’m still not old enough for smear tests lol🤣

@Recoba Some epus are open 24/7 which is how it should be, think it’s awful that some are only open 9-5 mon-fri! Hope you got on okay at your scan🤞🏻

overwork · 31/12/2022 12:14

@Amme18 oh phew thanks for that information. I was blaming it on the fact that my belly already seems to have reached my boobs (I'm presuming it's bloating and nothing else as my diet and exercise hasn't changed - I've completely skipped the sickness and food aversion part so far so I haven't had to modify anything), so it's good to know there's something else I can put the blame on Grin

Amme18 · 31/12/2022 12:20

@overwork yeah it apparently slows your digestion down too so it’s bloat! Plus extra blood/water. The many joys of pregnancy 😅
I’m back at work next week and not convinced my uniform will fit…should probably try it on.

AnnieApple123 · 31/12/2022 12:36

I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this @Recoba . I was there just a week ago and know how horrible it is. That’s just frustrating beyond words that you thought you had a scan booked but it’s actually not until the 3rd. Fingers crossed all spotting has stopped by now. I had it at both 6 and 8 weeks for about half a day each if that helps. xx

Does anyone ever feel a bit vulnerable here? With so many papers scouring mums net for articles it makes me nervous to share :( and the fb groups I get nervous someone's joined that isn't actually pregnant 😅

DesertSnow · 31/12/2022 13:53

@overwork the bloat is REAL! I'm going to look pretty pregnant at my NYE party tonight - going to have to blame it on excess over Xmas.

@Recoba so sorry to hear you're going through this and having trouble getting seen. Hopefully all will be ok, a few ladies on here have had spotting and baby has been ok.

@LMM91x yeah no smear while pregnant, they'll rearrange it if you let them know.

@Cat1424 I'd go straight for an internal scan, avoids the worry of them potentially not being able to see properly on an abdominal.

Got appointment for glucose test through today - they said they want to test me as diabetes runs in my family though no history myself. Doesn't sound fun! Fasting from 10pm, test is 9.30-11.30am. Going to be pretty hungry at that point I think. I also tend to faint pretty easily so bit concerned about getting to and from hospital while fasting (DH will be away). But I'll think about it nearer the time.

Sjw30 · 31/12/2022 14:01

Do they do that @sally16 👀
