Here’s a new thread for the upcoming new year.

I think we’ve got all due dates covered now but newbies are still of course most welcome. We’re a friendly, chatty bunch so do feel free to join in.

@marleyandme im soo scared of needles but it was fine in the end! I had a student do it which gave me even more fear in case she didn’t manage to get it in first time but she was fab! I just looked away and tried to actually breath and it was over before I knew it 🤣

blondebanana · 06/01/2023 08:45

Just fyi for anyone suffering with nausea I have found something that does really help me - Belvoir Farm Ginger Beer. It's so spiced it just hits the nausea away for a few mins.

AnnieApple123 · 06/01/2023 08:52

It’s amazing how well ginger works, isn’t it? I’m loving ginger teas. Sometimes cooled down in the fridge for variety. Also Daylesford do a chicken soup with ginger. I ate two packs last night after DS was in bed and wish I’d bought more…

There’s some evidence that vitamin B6 can help with nausea/sickness. I take quite a lot though and haven’t completely escaped it this time like I did in my first pregnancy.

Oh my goodness @marleyandme , never had a blood test? How have you managed that? I have them all the time. They’re honestly fine. My third one this pregnancy is on Monday.

@ChloeN thank you, that's reassuring!

@AnnieApple123 i guess I've had a lucky escape but won't now I'm pregnant! 3rd this pregnancy already? Can I ask if this is standard or is it that you have additional health concerns that they're checking? I'm hoping I've only got a few to do this pregnancy then I can go back to not needing them but maybe this is misguided 😂

sally16 · 06/01/2023 09:10

@marleyandme I take bloods at work and all I'll say it if your nervous don't look :)
9/10 when patients don't look when they are telling me a story they don't even notice till I'm taking the needle out 😅
And we need to use the big ones! Where as your midwife will use a teeny one if you never need bloods done as you'll have nice easy veins :)

LMM91x · 06/01/2023 09:11

@marleyandme i’m getting my bloods done today tooooo!!! I’ve had manyyyy in the past though and know I have silly little veins. I think it helps if you drink a bit of water before hand so you are hydrated x Good luck!!!!!

Bec3421 · 06/01/2023 09:53

I’m sorry to everyone feeling so ill, you're all doing so well to just get through the days!

I’m having the opposite issue, I was having so many symptoms (severe bloating, gas, nausea, cramping) until last week but now all but sore boobs and mild momentary cramps seems to have gone so I am getting really really paranoid. Is this something anyone has experienced? I’ve also had the worst flu that has wiped me out, and am withdrawing off Prozac as I had to stop it - so I don’t know what is causing what!!

I do have an early scan on Tuesday evening where I’ll be almost 8 weeks so I am praying that baby is okay in there. I feel like its the anxiety that is making me feel sick more than anything!

xx

AnnieApple123 · 06/01/2023 09:55

@marleyandme no definitely not standard, don’t worry. I have hypothyroidism so have to have blood tests every 4 weeks in pregnancy as thyroxine requirements increase and my dosage has to be altered accordingly. Most people can get away with just 12 and 28 weeks though.

SnowL2021 · 06/01/2023 10:08

@marleyandme I hate needles and hated the occasional blood tests during my first pregnancy but I honestly think it’s a mental thing - the needle itself barely hurts, it’s just my mind that makes it into this big scary thing. Also, to say I hate needles so much, I had no problem getting an epidural during the labour haha. I always tell the midwife I’m scared of needles, then close my eyes and breathe deeply.

Good luck to everyone with early scans today.

@Createcomet I have a one-year-old and I must admit, although this baby is very much wanted, I am terrified about the reality of having two young kids. Therefore, not as excited as I was with the first.

Narwhal88 · 06/01/2023 11:25

After 6 rounds of IVF trust me when I say you easily get used to needles 😂 it's all a mental thing.
Feeling a lot more nauseous now. I'm finding I'm basically hungry every 1-2 hrs then I start to feel sick...

marleyandme · 06/01/2023 11:26

So after all that it was just the first half of the booking appointment and they've sent me to the hospital to make an appointment for blood test 😂 next Tuesday now!

BCxx · 06/01/2023 11:46

@LS888 just think.. at least you’re not teaching 😂🎉 I’m still off with stress but even having to get a sick line etc is stressing me out. I wish I could just quit but I think I’m going to try and stay off for a bit longer then aim to go back for a month or two then take the earliest possible mat leave at 29 weeks and not go back. The relief will be amazing, I’m jealous of you! Even if you are now at a crossroads for where to go next

BCxx · 06/01/2023 11:55

@Createcomet i think your feelings of not feeling as instantly as attached are normal. I think there’s so many reasons for it, I feel the same just now. I’m sure it will change when the baby starts kicking and is a fully formed baby on scans! I think part of it must be the fact you love a little person so much you just can’t really imagine splitting that love with someone else when you’ve not even met the other one and you nothing about who they are. It’s also hard when you’re not the same level of excited about general baby things. I remember last time (maybe because I was never a baby person before) I’d never even pushed a pram and the concept of having a baby in a pram was just so exciting to me, I was so into picking all the stuff. This time if we were to do a nursery for the baby it would involve us losing a room in the house that we kind of need for storage etc so I think we’ll just wait until they’re nearer 6 months. I think also when everything went so well the last time, even after he was born and with sleep and everything, I’m slightly thinking have I used up all my luck? but trying to block that out 🙈

Sjw30 · 06/01/2023 11:56

Just back from the EPU to check everything’s okay after the bad stomach cramps. All okay! So relieved. Now measuring 9+3! Going by the private scan just before Christmas I should of been 8+3 today! 🥰

BCxx · 06/01/2023 11:58

@Sjw30 aw wow, good news! And you’ve bypassed a week entirely! How weird is that that it can change so much? Does the later date tie in with your last period more?

LS888 · 06/01/2023 11:59

Thanks @BCxx 😊 I am so relieved and 100% made the right decision to leave but like you say just at a bit of a cross roads and everyone is back to work after Christmas now so feeling a bit like a spare part. Trying to get all the jobs done that I should have done and couldn’t do whilst teaching full time. I uploaded our wedding photos to create an album yesterday (we got married in April) so this was massively overdue! I need to change my name in lots of places and we moved house in June so have to change address too.

I have blood tests today too. When I my booking appointment I had a cold which has just about gone now (thank goodness!) But they couldn’t get a vein to pop up. I’m not good with needles either and have be en known to faint. A few people tried at the hospital but they asked me to book in at the doctors another day as they thought I could be dehydrated due to the cold. I’ve had loads tin drink this morning too and am going to walk to the doctors as being warm and moving helps to get them to pop up a bit too! Not looking forward to it!

Sjw30 · 06/01/2023 12:03

@BCxx thank you! I know! Going by my LMP I’d be 9 weeks today so does tie in a bit more ☺️I think at 6+5 when I went for the private scan they can be too early to
measure accurately.

Mulner88 · 06/01/2023 12:18

@Sjw30 this happened me too last week. I had an EPU scan at 6+4 (they measured me at that) and then I went for a private scan on Monday and I should have been 8+6 but they measured me 9+6 so a whole week ahead! I think it's hard to measure accurately so early like 6 weeks and it gets more clearer as time goes on.

Re needles. They find it difficult to find my veins so my advice is prior to drink water and put a warm compress on your warm which will help make the veins show up better.

LMM91x · 06/01/2023 13:03

@Sjw30 omg amazing !!!! So happy all ok xxxxxxx

Sjw30 · 06/01/2023 13:06

@Mulner88 wow amazing isn’t it.

@LMM91x thank you 🥰

You're definitely right, there are a whole load of reasons that subsequent pregnancies feel differently to the first. I think its a combination of not being able to imagine spliting my love with another child, and also just as @SnowL2021 said, the worry of coping with 2 kids is beginning to set in 😂 I've mostly loved the time I've had being a parent so I hope I'm not about to tip the balance by having another one!

I have to say, I don't think I really got excited about the baby things the first time round. I had an early loss before my son and I just couldn't focus on anything other than "is he okay?", right up until he came out. I didn't really 'decorate' a nursery, and I didn't buy clothes etc really. My family bought a lot because they were over excited and I didn't really get to buy anything...which is both a blessing and a curse!

The last time I was pregnant was in full lockdown, so at least this time I can go to a shop and buy something that I actually want for the baby, which is a novelty. I remember really struggling to get newborn clothes because everywhere online was sold out as no shops were open 🤣

PumpkinEverything · 06/01/2023 14:52

@marleyandme im not scared of needles, but have a fear of blood (you’d wonder why I’m pregnant). Last pregnancy I was honestly so elated by a successful 12 week scan I didn’t even care about it. I only had them taken twice thankfully. I hadn’t had one before that since 1999…. I just won’t go to the doctors as I’m always scared they’ll suggest one! I honestly thought I’d got over my fear a bit but I’m now getting super anxious about it again in two weeks 😬😬 like just want to throw up! I asked them to let me lie down for it as I was scared I’d faint; and I looked away and tried to breathe. Also made sure to drink plenty like others have said.

I even put in my birth plan last time I have a fear of blood and requested that they try to keep me from seeing anything, or to calm me down if I do 🙈 will do the same this time too

BoodifulGoose · 06/01/2023 16:03

Really weird pregnancy symptom I've had for weeks that I absolutely can't wait to stop or go away (even if it takes until baby arrives lol) is, every time I wake up, EVERY time, nap or sleep, my heart absolutely races/pounds and sometimes I get a bit sweaty.

It's so weird and uncomfortable!

BCxx · 06/01/2023 16:27

@Createcomet Yeah I’ve had quite an okay time but I feel like since I’ve been pregnant he’s been a bit of a nightmare all of a sudden 🙈 We went for lunch the other day and it was so awful! He’s just at the throwing things stage, ended up spilling my drink even though I’d moved it away about 15 times and it was one of those situations you’re just thinking omg when can I leave?! 😂 That plus another one I just can’t imagine! Hopefully this is just a short phase, if not we’ll never be out for another meal again 😳

Sorry about your loss, that will definitely have changed the way you’ve viewed things with your last pregnancy.
I was similar with the lockdown thing but I must have been a bit after you as you were just starting to be able to get in the shops again. I was too excited/scared to risk waiting though when ordering a pram in case it didn’t come in time so I ordered it without seeing it before the shops opened. This time I’ll get a multipack of vests and sleep suits and we’ll be good to go 😂

BCxx · 06/01/2023 16:28

@BoodifulGoose that's weird, do you think it’s like an anxiety thing or is it just totally random? Have you had your blood pressure taken recently?
