Here’s a new thread for the upcoming new year.

I think we’ve got all due dates covered now but newbies are still of course most welcome. We’re a friendly, chatty bunch so do feel free to join in.

My booking appointment and scan are all being done together. I’m in NI and I think this was a covid change.
Basically I have no contact with anyone until I am 12 weeks. Got my date as 1st Feb, should be just over 12 weeks then

ChloeN · 04/01/2023 19:09

@Bec3421 i had my booking appt and they said they’d send me a letter! I’m 10 weeks so was thinking it’d end up being late but she said should still be between 12-13 weeks

Rose05 · 04/01/2023 19:31

Coming towards the end of antibiotics for a chest infection and I think I have thrush (luckily I’ve never had this before but my god….!) Google states to contact midwife/gp but lots of treatments say it’s safe during pregnancy! Does anyone have any experience?

LMM91x · 04/01/2023 19:38

Oh no @Rose05 you aren’t having much luck!!! Hope it clears soon! (Sorry no experience!)

BCxx · 04/01/2023 19:46

@Amme18 oh no 😩 I’ve had an okay day today and I can’t decide if it’s just because I haven’t thought about being sick or if I’ve been feeling fine but even first thing this morning before I’d ate I wasn’t gagging for once! It must be when hcg rises each time that you get a really bad day surely

ChloeN · 04/01/2023 19:54

@BCxx I find it’s like every 2/3 days mine is worse so maybe it is!

I'm finding symptoms very sporadic too! My tiredness was awful for about a week, but today the emphasis seems to be on sickness and hunger. I'm so hungry, it's honestly ridiculous! My stomach is rumbling right now and I ate (forced myself to eat) a massive plateful of spaghetti bolognese 2 hours ago. I can't deal with it 🤦‍♀️

So... we haven't discussed twins..
my friends having twins.. was one baby present at 6 week scan.. 2 babies at 13 week nhs scan

None in her family now I'm scared 😂

This is one of the things that’s put me off having an early scan. One twin is often hidden behind the other at that stage and hard to see. Conversely, there’s vanishing twin syndrome where a twin is seen early on but is then gone by 12 weeks. Twins really wouldn’t be great news for me if I’m honest (I’m struggling to cope with just one 2.5 year-old currently), so I’d prefer to wait until there’s more certainty.

@AnnieApple123 I'd also really struggle.. I regularly have panicky thoughts about how I'll get out the house on no nursery days with 2.. let alone 3 🤣

PumpkinEverything · 04/01/2023 21:19

@CityKity also freezing all the time too! Glad it’s not just me 🙈 whenever I’m in the house I’m constantly sitting with a hot water bottle, and then a blanket too!

@Asher19992 im in NI too! I’m northern trust and self referred online and then about a week and a half later for my scan date and a form I need to fill in and send back. With my daughter I had a long phone call after my scan which I think is what we’d normally have at the booking appointment.

IvyAndOlives · 04/01/2023 21:28

Hello!

I'd love to join if that's ok! I'm currently just over 7 weeks, I've also got a lovely 2 year old.
I've had 3 previous early miscarriages so am very anxious, but find reading everyone's stories reassuring 💕
I've just had my booking in appt and booked a private scan for Friday, can't come soon enough!

I can sympathise with those of you with a 'hungover' feeling! That's how I'm feeling pretty much 24/7.

BoodifulGoose · 04/01/2023 21:46

@Amme18 I totally feel you :( felt human the past two days, not anywhere near as sick and more energy, then today I had no sleep and I've been sick 4 times, twice within half an hour of waking up, all on the first day back at work! Absolutely miserable with it now, just want it to be over 😭

somuchtolearnabout · 04/01/2023 22:06

@AnnieApple123 I'm with you. Every baby is a blessing, but with a 3yo and a 1yo, twins would be a logistical nightmare. At our early scan she spent a long time checking because she could see I'd ovulated twice on the right side, and she was concerned there was two. She was adamant by the end that there wasn't though so I'm clinging onto that for dear life.

sally16 · 04/01/2023 22:30

Sorry to be a downer..
but I can't find much elsewhere..
since stopping my sleeping tablets I can't sleep.. and when I do it's nightmares again :(

I'm waiting to see the perinatal MH team but does anyone know if they'll actually have a safe option or is it just chatting? Because I can't even sleep on my rest breaks on nightshift now 🙃

Sjw30 · 04/01/2023 22:40

@sally16 I don’t have any experience hopefully the MH team can help, but have you tried speaking to a pharmacist and see if there’s anything over the counter that’s safe?

Amme18 · 05/01/2023 00:14

@sally16 my pregnant SIL took something recently that’s pregnancy safe but can’t remember what it was, not directly a sleeping tablet but had side affects of sleeping so prescribed that so there must be options? Was more of a one off than a daily though xx

Rose05 · 05/01/2023 05:49

A friend took something for sleeping whilst pregnant.. I’m not sure what it was but I know it was prescribed and safe for pregnancy.

sally16 · 05/01/2023 06:46

Thanks guys hopefully there is a something 🤞🏻 I'll pop into pharmacy today!
I've text my work and asked them to ask the pharmacist if she pops in too 😂

blondebanana · 05/01/2023 08:36

Can anyone make me feel better pls and confirm that it is possible for the nausea to ease off earlier than 12 weeks... I'm only 6+5 and I've felt horribly sick from the second I wake up to the second I go to sleep for the last 7 days. Vomiting every morning. Another 6 weeks (or potentially more) of this is making me lose the will to live. I'm on prescription meds which is making it slightly more bearable but it's still awful.

Alpacabag22 · 05/01/2023 10:07

For those struggling with nausea first thing in morning, I'm finding choc chip brioche rolls to be an unexpected god-send. Not the healthiest breakfast but needs must!

@blondebanana I'm coming up on 10 weeks and while I'm still nauseous most days I found from about 8 weeks on my symptoms fluctuated more. Some days less nausea, more sleepy. But then I'd drive myself crazy worrying why I wasn't throwing up anymore - you cannae win! 😂

I've read lots that says from about 9/10 weeks the placenta starts taking on more hormone production which can help. And also i guess maybe your body starts to get more used to all the HCG etc. . Hang in there ❤

blondebanana · 05/01/2023 10:13

@Alpacabag22 thank you so much❤️

Chocolotandtea · 05/01/2023 10:30

Wow this thread moves so fast 😂 marking my place for the new one

BusyBushBaby · 05/01/2023 12:14

Hi all. Had a scan this morning at 9+5, baby 1 is still looking good, measuring 10+0 and had a good wriggle. Baby 2 has died since the last seven 8 days ago which was expected but still a bit sad.

AnnieApple123 · 05/01/2023 12:19

I’m so sorry to hear this @BusyBushBaby , even though as you say, it was expected. So pleased baby 1 is doing well. As others here have said before, it must be so hard getting both sad and happy news at the same time.

@Chocolotandtea Yes halfway through this thread already. I’m struggling to keep up now too.

In fact I’m struggling in general to get back to normality and into a good routine with DS post-Xmas. I don’t have the energy I normally do to keep on top of his toys and the house is feeling really chaotic with the influx of new stuff he’s had for Xmas. My mum is taking him out to the playground this afternoon so I should get a chance to put the Xmas decs away at least…

I’m finding Pukka organic ginger teas really good for nausea by the way if that’s helpful to anyone.
